Lawmakers will meet in a special legislative session today to discuss the possibility of putting a constitutional question to voters in November on the ballot initiative process. Lawmakers are to discuss the possibility of a constitutional amendment in response at the special session, which, if created and approved by voters, would establish leeway for lawmakers to tweak voter-approved ballot initiatives. KSL 5 TV Reporter Lindsey Aerts has been covering the story and gives insight, and Utah House Speaker Mike Shultz explains the motivations for the proposed change.

The last few weeks have brought intense rain and lightning storms. Sunday, lighting struck and killed one man and injured two others in Box Elder County. Additionally, in late June, seven youth were hospitalized after lightning struck while they were hiking in Sevier county, Utah. KSL Meteorologist Kevin Eubank, brings insight into whether these storms are abnormal and what we need to remind people of when it comes to staying safe around lightning.
