Lawmakers will meet in a special legislative session today to discuss the possibility of putting a constitutional question to voters in November on the ballot initiative process. Lawmakers are to discuss the possibility of a constitutional amendment in response at the special session, which, if created and approved by voters, would establish leeway for lawmakers to tweak voter-approved ballot initiatives. KSL 5 TV Reporter Lindsey Aerts has been covering the story and gives insight, and Utah House Speaker Mike Shultz explains the motivations for the proposed change.  

Home ownership is becoming a complicated situation. More than half of Americans are waiting for home prices to decrease before buying, while the other half are holding onto their properties and making it their forever home. Utah lawmakers calling a special session for late afternoon Wednesday to decide on a constitutional amendment about citizen lead ballot initiatives. Lindsay Aerts, KSL TV Reporter, who's been following this story joins D2 to help us understand what could come from this special session. House Speaker Mike Shultz answers questions from the legislative perspective and why the special session is being held and Katie Wright from Better Boundaries brings perspective from the other side of the issue.

The last few weeks have brought intense rain and lightning storms. Sunday, lighting struck and killed one man and injured two others in Box Elder County. Additionally, in late June, seven youth were hospitalized after lightning struck while they were hiking in Sevier county, Utah. KSL Meteorologist Kevin Eubank, brings insight into whether these storms are abnormal and what we need to remind people of when it comes to staying safe around lightning.

Sources say lawmakers have talked about adding a constitutional amendment to the November ballot, that could change what the court said our constitution protects in terms of voter initiatives.
