  • Dominators – DC Comics Characters 101
    The Dominators from DC Comics are about to become very well known, but few people know their origin. In fact, they were very obscure characters until The CW announced that they would be the villains of the upcoming crossover.

    To get some details on these aliens, we are introducing a new segment to the show. Currently titled "DC Comics Characters 101", we will give an introduction to the characters and discuss their history in comic books, TV, and film.

    To be able to challenge the combined forces of Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, the Dominators must be a formidable group. Best known for their role in the Invasion! story line, they are generally depicted as geneticists who take an interest in Earth's metahuman population.

    While they are primarily villains of the Legion of Super-Heroes from the future, they have crossed paths with some of the biggest heroes in DC Comics. In the Invasion! arc, that includes Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter.

    Who are the Dominators?

    * Alien race - homeworld is known as the Dominion
    * Physical appearance - yellow skin, red circle on forehead, sharp teeth and nails
    * First comic book appearance - Adventure Comics #361 - October 1967
    * They are called a “Race bred solely for conquest and domination”
    * Geneticists - interested in manipulating metagene, research metahumans

    Appearances in Film and TV

    * Very brief cameo in Smallville Season 11 comic book
    * Film - Briefly appear in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (2011)
    * TV - Villain in the Legion of Super Heroes cartoon (2006-2008)
    * Will be villain of 4-Part CW crossover - Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow

    The Dominators are described by Wikipedia as:
    The Dominators, collectively known as the Dominion, are a fictional alien race from the outer cosmos of the DC Universe. They are highly technologically advanced, and live in a rigid hierarchical society, in which one's caste is determined by the size of a red circle on one's forehead. They are master geneticists who can manipulate the metagene to enhance members of their own caste.
    The Dominion is not the most well-known planet in the comic book universe, but it looks like we will be seeing more from it soon. We still don't know how they will look on the TV screen. According to Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim, “We’re using cutting-edge prosthetics and computer effects to achieve a feature film-quality look which is faithful to Invasion! artist Todd McFarlane’s interpretation of the characters.”
