DCOM, Cool, and Collected

BLACK LIVES MATTER.

Continue paying attention to what's happening. This is far from over, and lack of coverage doesn't mean horrible things aren't still happening: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/07/nyregion/nypd-derrick-ingram-protester.html?smid=tw-share

We watched A Ring of Endless Light this week, and it definitely wins DCOM with the most kisses! At least so far... Listen to us rave about cast members and their inspiration for beautiful pieces of art... aka the Mmmm Whatcha Say SNL skit with Andy Samberg... Okay that's it!

Black Lives Matter. An important part of being an ally is staying educated. We mention the white savior narrative in this podcast because we see how it pertains to this movie. Learn more: https://www.glamour.com/story/the-help-white-savior-movies

This week we watched Gotta Kick It Up! (2002) and we talk about dance teams and the confusion of 9th grade being considered middle school?? When we talk about topics that we may be misinformed on, we want to apologize in advance. We don't ever want to seem like we are speaking FOR people of color, and we realize we can only bring our own experiences along with the knowledge we have taken the time to learn on these subjects.

This week we watched Get a Clue (2002) starring everyone's favorite Lindsay Lohan! We all know Elizabeth loves a good spy/mystery movie, so it's no surprise that this movie was a joy to watch. you'll have to listen to hear the full review though...

This week we watched Tru Confessions (2002). This movie is about a young teen with a developmental disability. We know this can be a sensitive subject, and as always we did our best to talk about it respectfully, while sharing personal experiences. That being said, if we said something that was wrong, we want to apologize in advance, and though we know it isn't anyone else's job to educate us, if you feel comfortable please let us know, and we will actively work to do better. Next week, we return with a lighter movie, Get a Clue.

We were very excited to talk about another CLASSIC DCOM, Cadet Kelly. From the all-star cast, to the still relevant dialogue this DCOM is remembered fondly for good reason.

We're starting off the 2002 DCOM year strong, with Double Teamed. Based on the true story of twin athletes Heather and Heidi Burge, Double Teamed was a fun DCOM we loved watching as children. This week we share some real life twin knowledge from a first hand twin (she isn't featured because we ran out of time and she's busy, but she did provide us some insight we shared).

Merry Christmas in June (basically July). This week we watched 'Twas the Night, and this movie has the amazing Bryan Cranston. We were also sipping on some beverages in this week's episode because sometimes you need a little something to add some fun to the slower movies. Next week we kick off the year 2002 with Double Teamed!

Keeping those links in the description as a reminder that this isn't over, and we are committed to staying in it for the long haul. In this week's podcast, we watched The Poof Point. Ever wondered our thoughts on time travel or Ronald Reagan? Good news for you! Both get discussed this week, and we know you won't want to miss that!

We wanted to add all of those links and resources to the top of this description because they are most important. In case anyone is reading this, but missed our Instagram post, we support the Black Lives Matter movement, and highly encourage everyone to check out the links above to help however you can and to educate yourself. Both of us are educating ourselves and supporting BLM how we can. This isn't just a one week issue, and we hope no one takes us deciding to post this as such. We will continue educating ourselves, speaking out, and doing the internal work to be the best allies that we can be.
