Dead Format

Friend of the show Jeremy returns as we try to discuss Troy Duffy's 2000 Boston crime thriller "The Boondock Saints", a movie that we all hate so much that this really becomes more a discussion of the 2003 making of documentary "Overnight". We get into Troy Duffy, his cool overalls, how hard directing movies is, delusional thinking, the incredible levels of bridge burning on display, enslaving your best friends, WWE theme songs and marvel at a man so unlikable we all wind up taking Harvey Weinstein's side on something. Also discussed: The End of Oak Street, La Flor pt. 4, the Venom films, The Samurai and the Prisoner, Schindler's List and The Worst Person in the World. All that plus Tim saw and didn't like "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma" and the boys pitch a new subgenre of death metal. Please note we recorded this during a bad rain storm and Ben and Jeremy's internet has some struggles but this episode is still plenty listenable and remember that this show is free. Ben and Tim head down to the Gulf Coast for the first of Tim pick in our summer block, Mira Nair's 1991 "Mississippi Masala". We get into the real life odyssey Nair went through in her career to arrive at this excellent movie, location shooting in Africa, hiring Ken Park's director to be your DP, Denzel's crazy charisma and crazier mouth injury, teen Zoran talking his mom out of doing Harry Potter and the wild swings this movie takes in order to say something about the idea of home that few other movies even try to attempt. This movie surprised the hell out of Ben and you should really check it out. Also discussed: Chainsmoker Cat (again, sorry), La Flor pts 1 &2, Dark Side of the Ring, Manhunter and The End of Evangelion. This is one of Ben's all time favorite movies and hopefully this gets you to check it out if you haven't seen it before. The boys are back this week talking Gregg Araki's 2004 child abuse coming of age drama Mysterious Skin. We get into working with child actors, shoegaze, how cool Preston is, Awesome Culture and appreciate the insane degree of difficulty this tightrope act of a movie manages to pull off with absolutely brutal success. This is another one where both of us really hope you actually watch the movie instead of just listening to us prattle. Also discussed: Tenet, Limbo, Black Swan, Nymph( )manic and the Hellraiser quadrilogy.
