Decibel Geek Podcast

Producer and longtime friend of Ace Frehley, Crazy Joe Renda stops by to share Ace Stories about everyone's favorite spaceman. Joe first came to prominence in KISS fan circles with the novelty song, 'Eugene' released under the moniker of Crazy Joe & The Variable Speed Band. The song would go down in KISSTORY as Ace Frehley's first musical project outside of the band as he's a co-writer and co-producer of the song. Joe also founded and ran North Lake Sound studio in White Plains, NY along with fellow songwriter Chip Taylor (known for ' Wild Thing', 'Rock Soldiers' and 'Angel of the Morning'). Joe is also the producer for prank phone call legends The Jerky Boys.

In this long-form conversation, Joe shares some incredible stories of hanging out with Ace Frehley and being around the business of KISS. Stories of the interpersonal relationships between Ace and the other members of the band are shared including the dynamic between the "2 camps" of Simmons and Stanley vs Criss and Frehley. Also included are Joe's recollections of Ace's decision to quit KISS and how Gene Simmons pleaded with Joe to attempt to keep Ace on as a member of the band. Other stories involving a testy meeting between Peter Criss and Eric Carr, loads of stories of Ace truly being a rock  n' roll wild man and so much more including the story of how 'Eugene' was created and how it connects to KISS (not in the way you would expect). It's an hour-plus of jaw dropping stories about Jendell's favorite son. We hope you enjoy Ace Stories with Crazy Joe Renda and SHARE with a friend!

in iTunes by John 77 from USA on July 20, 2016

I've been listening to the Decibel Geek podcast for the past few years. Chris and Aaron have done so many fantastic interviews with musicians that respect and admire. I am a big Kiss fan that especially enjoys the Kissmas in July episodes. The Decibel Geek is definitely one of my absolute favorite podcasts out of all of the podcasts that I listen to. Keep up the great work Chris and Aaron. John in Central California

The podfather, Ken Mills, joins Chris & Aaron this week for KISS Shoulda Been a Single as KISSMAS in July rolls on! In this long form discussion and music episode, the guys each pick 5 songs from all of KISStory that they think shoulda been a single. These could be songs that would have rescued ill-fated albums in the KISS catalog as well as songs that could have made a successful album even more successful.

15 different KISS albums are used as sources; from the early days all the way to 2012 so there's a lot of variety on this one. We hope you enjoy KISS Shoulda Been a Single and SHARE with a friend!

Accept drummer Christopher Williams stops by this week to discuss his lifelong love affair with the Hottest Band in the Land. In this long-form talk, Williams talks about his discovery of KISS via the MTV Unplugged appearance in 1995. He also talks about the MTV Video Music Awards performance that the reunited band gave under the Brooklyn Bridge as the clincher in his fandom. Christopher is no ordinary KISS fan. In this hour-plus discussion he describes the scenario which led him seek and acquire one of Peter Criss' reunion era drum sets. It's a great story that has many twists and turns. He also relives his first KISS concert and how he had interactions with each band member throughout the set.

Aside from playing with metal legends ACCEPT, Christopher works steadily in numerous other musical endeavors including performances with a local group of musicians known as Blonder Than Hell. This group features bassist ET Brown, Williams, and Thee Rock N' Roll Residency founders (and former guests on this show) Jeremy Asbrock and Phillip Shouse. This KISS tribute is absolutely incredible and is not afraid to deliver the rarities that the official product shies away from. This year, they are performing a KISSMAS in July gig in Nashville, TN at Exit/In. This special show will feature the band in full makeup and costume performing, in their entirety, the Hotter Than Hell and Destroyer albums. It's sure to be a great night so join Chris and Aaron if you can. More info can be found HERE.

Singer/Songwriter and member of Devil City Angels, Brandon Gibbs joins Chris and Aaron this week for a discussion of his career and future projects. In this hour-plus discussion, Brandon talks about his early influences in blues music including Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan, his partnership with twin brother Brent that allowed him to open for many notable artists including Peter Frampton, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, and Poison. His friendship with Rikki Rockett would later earn dividends in the form of Devil City Angels (also including members Tracii Guns, Eric Brittingham and, later, Rudy Sarzo). In this long form discussion, Brandon shares his take on what's next for Devil City Angels and how the demands of the other members' projects have pushed him to find work in numerous ways in the music industry.

In May of 2015, Brandon Gibbs was thrust into a much bigger spotlight as he filled Bret Michaels' shoes as he led the other members of Poison (under the moniker 'The Special Guests') for a set of shows aboard the 2015 Monsters of Rock Cruise. In this episode, Brandon shares his memories of the audition process, his thoughts on the fan reaction to the shows, his take on Bret Michaels, as well as an update on what the remaining members of Poison have planned in the near future.

Please use the links below to keep up with all things Brandon Gibbs. Special thanks to friend of the show and past guest Sher Bach for her help in arranging this interview. We hope you enjoy Conversation with Brandon Gibbs and SHARE with a friend!

Hard rock is my drug of choice and I ’m always searching for my next high. Thank God for the Decibel Geeks and their Fresh Blood episodes. They turned me on to the Biters recently. I downloaded some tunes and was instantly hooked. Then I checked to see if they were on tour and discovered they were coming to my area next week! I'll definitely be front row and adding a new tee shirt to my collection. I'€™ll tell them the Decibel Geek sent me. Thanks Aaron & Chris!
