What do you want to be remembered for?
Joe Schmit has been a broadcaster for over thirty years, and in addition to his family responsibilities, he often worked nights, weekends, and holidays to cover professional sports. At that time, he had some excellent teams, and Joe gave more to his job than his family.
He realized if he returned to the business, he could not put himself back on that treadmill. So he set some rules, made a box, and said, "If it doesn't fit in this box, I won't do it." Since his return, he has managed his schedule without burning out by prioritizing his family and saying no to opportunities that do not fit into his life.
Joe believes that impact is contagious, and in this episode, he talks about impact resolution, wherein each month you focus on a trait you want to get better at and commit to. We will also debunk the biggest myths that play around this topic.
About Joe:
Joe Schmit is an award-winning broadcaster, community leader, and author. He has won 18 Emmys from the National Television Academy and was awarded The Silver Circle designation by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the Emmys for extraordinary contributions to the broadcasting industry. He is also the author of two award-winning books "Silent Impact" and "The Impact Blueprint."

Do you feel like you put too much effort and energy into other people's needs and not enough towards your own?
In this week's episode of the Decode Your Burnout Podcast, we have Lora Cheadle as a guest. Lora had two major burnouts in her life. The first was when she had two young children at home, a husband who traveled often, and three grandparents in the final stages of Alzheimer's, cancer, and emphysema. The second was when she started to accomplish a lot but didn't feel fulfilled and lost motivation.
Lora shares how she took a hard look at her priorities and began to give herself more attention. By letting go of other pursuits, she was able to focus on things that were important to her—things that led her to new passions.
She also elaborates on the following tips on burnout:
- Oftentimes, burnout is not simply the result of overwork; it can be the result of betrayal.
- Too often we go after things we think we're supposed to want, but they don't actually make us happy.
- Learning how to speak up and advocate for yourself (after you have figured out what it is you want) is essential to healing burnout.

In this week's episode of the Decode Your Burnout Podcast, we have Dr. Tarryn MacCarthy as the guest. In her quest for happiness, Tarryn neglected her needs and chased the wrong things in life. She lost her sense of fulfillment as a result of seeking external validation of her worth.
An eye-opening incident led her to create time and space to get quiet. The most significant transformation was allowing herself to be with herself daily, to block out the noise, and simply be present with herself.
Her journey proved that success isn't just about accomplishment, it's about feeling fulfilled and happy, and that's not going to come from doing more stuff but from your relationship with yourself.
She also debunked the following myths about happiness:
- In order to be happy, you need more money, status, or stuff.
- Being happy can be earned.
- There is something wrong with me if I don't feel happy all the time.
