So ketogenesis is the process of creating ketone bodies and mitochondria of liver cells. So that’s where the magic happens primarily. So we are in the mitochondria of liver cells and that’s where ketogenesis occurs… we have three main ketone bodies out of which one is technically not a ketone. So we have Beta hydroxybutyrate, acetoacetate and acetone. Beta hydroxybutyrate is technically not a ketone. It’s a carboxylic acid.
Cristi Vlad Who is Cristi Vlad?Cristi Vlad holds a master’s degree in civil engineering. He’s self-taught in genomics, nutrition and biochemistry, machine learning, bioinformatics, cybersecurity and rational thinking.
Cristi is the author of seven books including Ketone Power and Periodic Fasting.
Cristi Vlad’s utilizes the scientific method in his approach to experiments to limit logical fallacies and remove cognitive bias. He favors science-based medicine, which is actually different from evidence-based medicine.
In research, Cristi looks for good evidence and solid arguments to support an ever-changing world view and opinion. This method leaves him thinking fluid and flexible instead of fixed and self-limiting.
What is a Ketone? The simple definition (without getting into organic chemistry): a byproduct of fat being burned in the metabolism. It serves as an alternative to glucose.
Key Highlights from The Ketosis Deep DiveSo why explore something like ketosis? Why go on a high fat, carb restricted diet? One of the reasons why I choose to do it quite frequently is for increased focus, increased cognition.
The other tool in my toolbox and you guys have heard me say this before for increased cognition and perhaps my favorite nootropic out there is Qualia and Quality is made by a company called Neurohacker Collective which I believe so much in that I’ve invested a significant sum of my money in the company. Qualia is a nootropic and they’ve also come out with a second product called Qualia Mind.
But pay attention to this company, folks, because there’s a lot going on and there’s a lot in the pipeline. Whether it’s sleep, stress and a whole bunch of other things, Neurohacker Collective continues to deliver high quality products which improve my focus, my overall sovereignty and my ability to just frankly kick ass. So if you want to try Qualia which is the original formulation or Qualia Mind, go over to Neurohacker Collective’s website, that’s neurohacker.com, plug in the code BOOMER, in case you forgot how to spell my name and you could get 10% off your first month’s order or if you go and subscribe which I do recommend because you want to try this for several months, you may actually want to try for longer use the code BOOMER you’ll get 15% off your subscription.

They come into this line to pay a crap load of money when we know we can actually get the literal exact Starbucks coffee put it in a coffee machine at home and it actually turns on by itself so I'm just trying to ... Why are they in this line? Why are they spending money to be here in this line waiting, having to wake up early when they could just it at home for pennies, save that time and as complex and psychological as I try to figure it out, it all came down to the simplest reason why because they wanted to. You wanted to and I'm not saying... like there's no judgment, there's no right or wrong, good or evil here. It's like we do things in our life because we want to.

How do I time expand or how do I manage my own time. Well first you know what gets measured gets managed and one of the things that I like to measure the most is my sleep. Why? Because sleep correlates so much with my daily performance. For those of you who have listened to the show for a while, relisten to the episode with Chuck Hazzard. You know that I'm a big fan of the Oura Ring. The Oura Ring - I've had it for over a year now and it has completely revolutionized the way I sleep. It influenced habit change. Everything from when I have my last meal to fasting to looking at data from resting heart rate to deep sleep to REM sleep etc.
It is my favorite wearable on the market at this moment. And the good news is is that they come out with a new ring. The new ring looks a lot more like a ring and a lot less like a Cracker Jack box toy which I actually enjoy. You can get one right now if you go over to ouraring.com. Use the code BOOMER and right now the guys from Oura are offering either 50 Dollars or 50 Euros off depending on what jurisdiction you're in the purchase of a new ring. So go over. Check it out. Enjoy and remember managing time leads to better performance.

Who is Siim Land?Siim Land is an Estonian author, high performance coach, biohacker and a student of life. He has a bachelor's in socio-cultural anthropology, he has a blog, a YouTube channel, and a podcast about human optimization and wellness called Body Mind Empowerment.
What is Flow?Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi coined the term flow and published the work, "Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience"
Defined by Csikszentmihalyi, Flow is:
“A state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.”
What Roles Do Ketosis and Fasting Play in Flow?Siim Land uses a ketogenic diet and different types of fasting to enhance focus. For Siim, he functions better in ketosis. The combination of a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting reduces Siim's decision fatigue and enables him to get more done without being influenced by hunger or excessive food choice.
Key Highlights of the Podcast___
As we cover topics like ketosis and fasting in this episode, you'll come to find that Siim and I both look forward to doing these types of things to our bodies in an effort to increase cognition, to increase focus. Well another tool that I have in my little tool box over here for increasing cognition is Qualia. Both Qualia and Qualia Mind have significantly upgraded my sovereignty. I encourage you to go check out the podcast with Jordan Hall if you want to really understand more about what that means. But Qualia in particular has become a staple in my supplement and nootropic stacks and when I have a "get shit done" day, Qualia is definitely by my side. Now if you want to try out either Qualia or Qualia Mind, how could you do this? Well, head over to neurohacker.com, use the coupon code BOOMER and you'll get 10% off your purchase. If you're interested in a subscription, which I have an annual subscription to this one, you can get 15% off of subscriptions.

...I'm not fine. I feel horrible. You know I have no energy, I don't sleep, the way my skin looks bad, you know on and on and on. So they know something's wrong. So what we run is called functional labs. We use saliva, urine, we use stool, we use some blood top but it's looking at things differently and looking at different things. And so these functional tests are the way to go.

My sponsor for this episode is the ring on my finger and yes, I'm not even married yet but I want to give a shout out to these guys because it has changed the way I look at sleep. Now if you go back to the episode with Benjamin Smarr and others, I talk a lot about the importance of sleep and how it is absolutely essential to reach epic levels of performance.
Only 3% of you out there can get away with less than 6 hours of sleep. Think about that. But when I went back to hacking my sleep, one of the things that I first went to is how to quantify that and the device I use is the Oura Ring, the new one came out recently and you should all get it because frankly it's shaped more like a ring rather than the original Cracker Jack box one which I enjoy and still wear.
But the information it gives me is absolutely essential to becoming a more epic human. I look at things like REM sleep, deep sleep, my sleep stages and the sequence of that. Again, go back to the episode with Dr. Smarr if you want to realize what that all really adds up to. And I look just sort of lifestyle adjustments to make me sleep better. For instance, not eating so late at night, leads to an earlier resting heart rate, leads to me feeling just more and more awesome the next day and it's also impacted how I do things like intermittent fasting. So I hope you all check it out and if you want to check it out now, the guys at Oura are giving 50 dollars or 50 euros off depending on what part of the world you're in. So go to ouraring.com and plug in the code BOOMER for that discount.

You can think of a music program almost contouring your expected heart rate. Starting at a low point, having a peak and then gradually coming down. If you're engaged in interval training such as HIIT - high intensity interval training - it might be that you have peaks and troughs in the energy of the music so as to reflect the physiological peaks and troughs in the workout. So I think the desired mental state and the underlying physiological state are drivers for the type of music that you would select. If I was stretching for example I might use a track such as No Diggity.

Along the lines of enhancing performance, particularly cognitive performance, there is one name that usually comes to mind - for me at least - in the supplement industry. And that is Neurohacker Collective. I had Jordan Greenhall, the CEO on the show before and you know I love what they’re doing. Neurohacker Collective has a couple of products now and more coming out in the future but one of which is Qualia, which I use 5-7 days every week and the second one is Qualia Mind, which I use on occasion, just when I want to mix it up a little bit. Qualia has over 40 ingredients and has significantly upgraded both my own wellbeing but also the concept of sovereignty which you can go look at the Jordan podcast later if you want. But if you wanna enhance your cognition, I personally believe there’s nothing better out there on the market. So how do you get started? You can go over to neurohacker.com and as you’re checking out plug in the code BOOMER and you’ll get 10% off your purchase. If you wanna subscribe, you’ll get 15% off. I hope you enjoy the products and do yourself a favor, just check it out. One month, all you need to do.

Instead of [the traditional stimulation device] paradigm, what we're trying to do is send more of a sensory signal so rather than a motor signal taking over the muscles and causing them to do something, we're actually sending a signal as if movement is taking place and even if it isn't, as if movement is taking place and seeing how the brain responds to movement. Remember the body is capable of doing more than it's currently doing. And if we send a signal that movement is happening in a certain area, we're going to be able to tap into where those limitations are actually occurring. As we scan around with the electrode, we're able to find areas where there's dysfunction.

Who is Garrett Salpeter?Known as "The Health Engineer," Garrett has taken his education in Physics (BS) and Engineering (MSE) and applied it to a system for making the human body better. His journey started when he picked up ice hockey as a boy. It was a game he loved, but for which he had little natural aptitude. After several years "skating by," he decided to delve deeply into the world of strength and conditioning to try to give himself a chance to play at a higher level. Unfortunately, what was popular at the time did not work for him -- and he kept searching.
In dealing with some injury problems, he learned about the paramount importance of the nervous system and saw the connections to how the same neurological principles could be applied to fitness. The neurological approach worked, and he never looked back. He became determined to learn as much as possible about how to affect the nervous system. To that end, he spent hundreds of hours in self-study, mentored under several leading-edge practitioners, tested many of his theories on himself and others, and even went back to school for a Ph.D. program in Neuroscience.
In 2009, he opened his first facility in Austin, TX to start sharing these methods with his community. This has grown into what we now know as NeuFit, which combines an advanced understanding of physiology with the best practices from diverse training and therapeutic practices, and constantly pushes these processes by using technology to accelerate them further. Since that first day, he has worked with people of all ages and in almost all situations, including athletes from MLB, the NFL, the NHL, UFC, Olympics, NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, and more, helping them get out of pain, improve performance, sometimes avoid surgeries, and live life at a higher level.
He lives in Austin, Texas and is ecstatically in love with his wife, Briana, and their two daughters, Gwenny and Gemma.
What is the NEUBIE?NEUBIE is NeuFit’s patent-pending device. It is an acronym for “NEURO-BIO-ELECTRIC STIMULATOR.” The NEUBIE is engineered to take advantage of all of the amazing things we’ve learned about the nervous system in the last 2-3 decades.
The nervous system controls every muscle movement. The NEUBIE wave form has two main benefits. (1) It provides direct current, and (2) it matches the signals the nervous system already sends naturally on its own.
If a movement dysfunction is contributing to your pain, keeping you injured, limiting your mobility, or robbing you of performance, then the Neubie can help you.

We should not forget that our body, the human body is made out of minimum 900,000 different proteins. Most of the proteins we have no clue about. We know something about 30,000 but more than 850,000 proteins we have no clue about what they are, what they do and where they perform but whenever one of those proteins is losing its function we will run into a problem. Some of these problems we know we call them chronic diseases, we call them fatigue, we would call them lost of performance. We can also say simply we are ageing by losing protein functions because we accumulate more damage. By helping the body to regenerate and to repair those damages you would slow down the process of losing optimal functions. And in some cases we actually can reinstall functions that we lost and we perform better, we feel better, we are better.

Most of the fitness wearables are on the wrist because people are used to wearing watches and one thing that became apparent right off is they work reasonably well, they’ve gotten better at it but that is one of the worst places you can actually measure anything. There are a bunch of reasons for that - your tattoos, skin color, hair, you get vibration no matter how tight it is, you get a lot of interference from the sun, it’s much stronger than the LEDs they use on the watches. But the bigger thing is you don’t have a lot of concentration of where arteries handoff to capillaries, the blood, whereas in the finger you have a huge density of those.
