Part3. (Prayers from a pigpen) Luke chapter 8 and verse 22 begins a saga that you and I should take special note of. As we know, we live in a troubled world and those who do not know and have their confidence firmly established in God will be subject to kinds of upheavals.

In verses 22 - 39 we note there are three person(s) trapped in “pigpens”, the disciples, the demon possessed man and the people of Gadara. We will examine the entrapment and look at the keys that give release from the “pigpens”

Part2. (Prayers from a pigpen) Wilfulness and waywardness are aspects of the human heart that we are all too familiar with.

Turning to the Gospel of Luke in chapter 15 we read three consecutive parables. The first about a lost sheep, the second about a lost silver coin and the third about the lostness of a young man … a son.

Jesus in this parable of the lost son contrasts the defiance of the son and the desire of the Father to see his son return. The repentance and confession of the son and the Father’s rejoicing in restoring his son to his former position.

Part1. (Prayers from a pigpen) Moving onto our next study. Over the course of four episodes we will examine in the Scriptures those who have fallen and failed terribly, yet God in His lovingkindness received their prayer of contrition.

So often, more than we care to admit we make wrong choices for one reason or another and find ourselves in “pigpens”. The prodigal of Luke 15 will be the backdrop to this study.

We begin by delving into the cry and prayer of the writer of Psalm 51, a man chosen by God, raised to prominence, privilege and power, yet he pens these words of brokenness and pleads for mercy. This man is none other that David the king of Israel.

Part5. (My Kingdom) Concluding this study we focus on the vastness of the Kingdom of God.

In John chapter 18 starting from verse 33 we pick up the conversation with Pilate questioning Jesus about His kingship and kingdom, the reply given by Jesus reveals the eternal nature of the Kingdom of God.

Part4. (The Kingdom of God) Colossians chapter 1 and verses 9-14 describe our transition from one kingdom to another, the kingdom of darkness “into the kingdom of the Son of His love …” (verse 13) Having this new hope and citizenship we are no longer under the demands of the former kingdom. The Bible makes it plain that this transition is supernatural and only made possible by Christ’s work; incarnation, sinless life, death and resurrection, this is our assurance.

In this episode we explore the realities of being citizens of God’s Kingdom and the changes it should bring into our lives.

Part3. (The Kingdom Now) Looking at Matthew chapter four we get some insight into the “arresting” of the kingdoms of this world from Satan and the delivery of those kingdoms into The Kingdom of God by the Lord Jesus Christ. We pick up the narrative in verse one, where Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil.

Part2. (The Kingdom Now) In this episode we ask what is “The Kingdom”? … How do we define it and describe it?

The King of the Kingdom we are delving into is none other than Jesus, Isaiah chapter 9 and verses 6 to 7 gives a detailed description of not only Jesus our King but also describes the perfect rule of His Kingdom.

Part1. (The Kingdom Now) In this new series about “The Kingdom of God” we will first consider the Lord’s Prayer (or The Pattern Prayer) found in the gospel of Matthew. The Lord’s Prayer is a series of principles by which we understand the Kingdom of God/the Kingdom of Heaven.

In the Kingdom it’s very important to note that prayer is not simply words spoken but is conditioned by holiness of heart, humility and preparation. Let’s look at Matthew 6 vs 7-14.

Part3. (Called and named by God). Israel is called by God to bring to the world of Nations the things that He has planned - that is redemption for the whole Earth.

In the book of Romans, chapters 9, 10 and 11, Paul shows that from the beginning God’s original intent for Israel. Even though they were scattered from the land in AD 70 it was God Himself that restored Israel (in 1948) as a nation back to the Land of their possession and is restoring Israel back to righteousness with her God through Jesus, The Messiah and Saviour.

Part2. (Called and named by God). God called Israel out to be a special people, unique to all the nations around about. (Deuteronomy 7:6-15) Their material prosperity was because of their spiritual purity. They were to be a light to the darkened gentile nations.

But what happens when they refuse God’s pattern for themselves and turn in rebellion to the ways of the surrounding pagan nations, will God cast them away forever? The psalmists Asaph and David knew that there was forgiveness and restoration.

In this episode we see how repentance is the foundation and threshold which brings release and restoration.
