  • Episode 16 - Elections in a Pandemic?! Indonesia’s Local Elections and Pilkada Serentak 2020

    Indonesia’s nationwide local election, commonly known as pilkada (pemilihan kepala daerah), was set to happen earlier this year in July, but Covid-19 pandemic had forced the authorities to push back the date to December 9th. The upcoming local election is planned to be held offline despite the lack of significant progress in handling the pandemic. Whether it is better to further postpone the election until the situation gets better or to stick with the current plan is still a matter of serious debate. In this episode of Demos' Delights, there are three speakers (Nandita Putri K, Rievaya S Putri and Theresia Rida Y K) who will be talking about Indonesia’s plan on the upcoming local elections, along with a history of past local elections in Indonesia, the prospect of e-voting, public responses towards the candidates and their campaign mechanisms, and the challenges that might rise in light of the election.
