  • 123. Beautifully Broken Glass -- Kimberly Kiefer

Have you ever felt broken? Maybe you have been hurt by a friend or a loved one. Or maybe someone in your life that you dearly loved passed away. Maybe you felt like your heart had been shattered into a million broken pieces. Oh friend, I can so relate.

Let me ask you one more question: Do you believe God can bring beauty out of that brokenness?  Such a great question for us to talk about today on the podcast. I cannot wait for you to hear from Kimberly Kiefer; she owns a business called beautifully broken glass where she takes these broken pieces and turns them into beautiful artwork. I think God does the same for us. As we take our broken pieces and hand them over to Him, He can turn them into something beautiful.  In fact, I have a special announcement at the end of the episode where God did just that- I cannot wait to share it with you.  I am excited for you to be encouraged by Kimberly’s episode.

Also, I am so excited for someone to win a 4 inch beautifully broken glass piece of artwork. All the details for the special giveaway are on my website at jodirosser.com or you can click this direct link: https://kingsumo.com/g/mqvpej/beautifully-broken-glass-tree-giveaway

  • 121. The Names of God -- Melissa Spoelstra

Have you ever studied the names of God in the Bible? Have you ever looked at Yahweh, Elohim, Jehovah Jireh, or El Shaddai and wondered what they meant?

I am so excited to have Melissa Spoelstra on the podcast this week to talk about her Bible Study, *The Names of God: His Character Revealed. I love that as we study the names of God in the Bible, it reveals God’s character.  Listen to what Melissa says, “One of the ways God makes Himself known to us is through His names in Scripture. While our names help identify and distinguish us, God’s names go a step further: they reveal God to us. Studying God’s names helps us grow in our understanding of His character.” It is going to give us a more complete view of God as we learned these names. I was fascinated with the study and learned so much. Melissa is full of wisdom and truth.

Do you give something up for Lent each year? I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember fasting for Lent while growing up.

About five years ago, a friend recommended a book to me called *Zip it by Karen Ehman and it was about giving up unkind and hurtful words for Lent. I loved that idea because at the time, I was really struggling with keeping control of my words. After that, I decided I wanted to do something each year for Lent.

I am so excited to share with you some of the ideas over the years. One of my favorite books for Lent is *40 Days of Decrease by Dr. Alicia Brit Chole. • 119. Staying Power by Carol & Gene Kent, Cindy & Dave Lambert
How do you respond when life sends its worst?  Do you reach out to others, or do you withdraw? Does it make your relationships stronger, or does it cause a division in your relationships?

I am so excited to have Carol & Gene Kent and Cindy & Dave Lambert on the podcast this week. We are going to talk about their book, *Staying Power: Building a Stronger Marriage When Life Sends Its Worst. Just a quick message to all my single friends: I am not married. I am divorced. If I am honest, I was a little hesitant about reading a marriage book, but I have to tell you this book is full of God Stories of when life is hard, and God shows up big and deepens their faith! You know how much I love to talk about how our greatest heartbreaks catapult us to our greatest growth.  I believe that growth can happen individually and in our faith with God. It can also happen in our relationships, which is what this book is all about.

Here is the question they ask on the back of their book: Will the next crisis your marriage faces be your final hour or your finest hour?  To my non-married friends, let me rephrase the question: When you go through your crisis, could that be your finest hour? Could God use that to grow you deeper than ever before? Can it birth a ministry out of you? I cannot wait for you to hear from Carol and Gene and how their greatest heartbreak launched their amazing ministry.  Whether you are married or single, I believe this episode is for you. In fact, I have not highlighted a book on marriage before on the podcast, and so today, on Valentine’s Day, I thought this is the one, the book I want to highlight: Staying Power!

  • 116. Growing Deeper Roots Part 2 -- Susan Chaska

Have you ever been curious about something? Perhaps you read it or heard it and it makes you want to understand more. Maybe it has something to do with a character in the Bible. Or maybe you heard song lyrics and something in that song made you want to understand it more. This curiosity causes you to dig deeper. It creates a sense of wonder and makes you want to dive deeper to answer the questions that are flooding your mind.

This week on the podcast, I talk with my friend and mentor over the years, Susan Chaska. She is going to share about a song that God placed in her mind and how it caused her to dig deeper. She also talks about never losing sight of this sense of wonder.

Last week, I did an episode about what I do to grow my faith and grow my roots deeper. This week, I wanted to reach out and ask some friends. God placed Susan’s name in my mind as she speaks a lot of truth into my life, so I called her. We got talking and I realized that she had so much wisdom that I wanted to do a full episode with her. I am planning to do more episodes with friends throughout the year.

So, I cannot wait for you to hear from my friend, Susan. I promise you are going to want to get a pen and paper out, she has so much wisdom to shares!

Over a decade ago, Susan and I served together in Treasured, a Bible Study for young moms. In addition, she is active in women’s Bible Study Fellowship and serves on the leadership team sharing devotionals and encouragement with other women.

  • 115. Growing Deeper Roots -- Jodi Rosser

How do you grow deeper in your faith? What does that practically look like? What do you daily or weekly to help you grow your roots deep?

Last week on the podcast, we talked about the importance of growing deeper roots as we discussed the book, *Rooted. If you missed Episode 114 with Banning, I highly recommend going back and listening to it. Now, this week, I had an idea while taking a shower, which I believe was from God. I thought, What does that look like practically? Maybe you need to do an episode that has nuts and bolts on what does it look like for Jodi to grow her roots deeper? Maybe you can invite friends to share too. And just like that, an idea for a real practical episode was birthed.

So friend, that is what I decided to do. I am pushing back the episode that I planned to release today and instead recorded this solo episode about what I personally do daily and weekly to grow my roots deeper. I have to say that it was special to trace back and see how God has deepened my walk with Him. I have lots of great resources to share with you too, so please check out the show notes with all the links.
