  • 103. Affirming Truths -- Carla Arges

Did you know that this week is Mental Illness Awareness Week?  I know this subject is not talked about very much in the church, but today I want to give voice to it.

I am so excited to have Carla Arges on the podcast this week. She is a mental health advocate, and I love that she honestly and vulnerably shares about her struggle with mental illness this week.  What I also love is she gives such truth and wisdom. She talks about mental health vs mental illness and compares it to physical health and physical illness. It was very eye-opening to me. She also encourages others to focus on their identity in Christ through Affirming Truths. One of my favorite parts of the episode!

I promise you do not want to miss her wisdom.

Also, I am so excited for someone to win a set of Carla’s Affirming Truth Cards. All the details of the book giveaway are on my website at jodirosser.com or you can click this direct link: https://jodirosser.com/giveaways/affirming-truth-cards/

  • 102. Inspiring Story -- Jenny Harmon

How do you view your struggles and difficulties in life?  Do you view them like an annoyance or something you have to go through? Or do you view them as a way to grow deeper in your faith? Or can we take it one step further – do you view your difficulties and struggles as a way to reflect God’s glory? These are hard questions, but they are good ones to ponder.

I am so excited to have Jenny Harmon on the podcast this week. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis almost 19 years ago and she is going to take us through her journey.  This month, September, is National Pain Awareness month and I know many like Jenny are experiencing chronic pain.  I just love the perspective and wisdom that Jenny shares this episode. I know it offered me so much hope. If you are walking through something difficult, I know her words will encourage you too!

  • 99. I Love Jesus, But I Want To Die -- Sarah J. Robinson

Do you struggle with depression? Do you have dark days or maybe someone in your family does and this is a reality that you live with?

This week on the podcast, Sarah J. Robinson and I discuss her book, *I Love Jesus, But I Want To Die. I think sometimes we think that if we have faith, we will not struggle with depression. But that is not true. I am so thankful to Sarah for vulnerably sharing her struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts as well as offering hope to those walking through their darkest days. I believe her story will also give hope to those who have a loved one who struggles with depression.

It is National Suicide Prevention Week and I think this is a great time to bring voice to this important subject that is not always talked about much. We talk about finding a therapist and overcoming shame in this episode. Honestly, my favorite part is the loving words a couple spoke to Sarah in her greatest time of need. We can all learn so much for the wisdom and truth shared.

Also, I am so excited for someone to win a copy of Sarah’s book, *I Love Jesus, But I Want To Die. All the details of the book giveaway are on my website at jodirosser.com or you can click this direct link: https://jodirosser.com/giveaways/i-love-jesus-but-i-want-to-die-book-giveaway/

Children’s Books (Sarah reads these on panic attack days to help calm her)

    • *Winnie the Pooh
    • *The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Sarah J. Robinson once believed her lifelong battle with depression made her a bad Christian. Now she’s an author and speaker who helps others discover that mental illness doesn’t disqualify them from living rich, beautiful lives in Christ. Drawing from a decade of ministry experience and the mental health field, Sarah helps readers fight for wholeness and cultivate joy. She lives in Nashville with her husband.

In this debut book, Sarah offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. She shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church.

Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in your deepest anguish.
