You're listening to the Live Love Engage podcast on today's show, an easy way to remember how to change your thoughts so you can live more abundantly. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the Love Method, and author of the number one Amazon best seller, Live, Love, Engage, How to stop doubting yourself and start Being Yourself.
In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully, love deeply, and engage authentically so you can create a life and business. Impact, influence and income. Welcome to Live Love, Engage
Namaste, and welcome to another edition of Live Love Engage. And I have a delightful guest with us today.
We've already been sort of getting into the interview, but, uh, I'll, I'll bring her on right now and welcome Judy Balloff to live love engage. Happy to be here. Was looking forward to it for a long time. Yeah. Well, I'm excited, especially, as I said, we've been already before, before all of you got to, to watch and listen.
we've been kind of getting in there. So let me let share with you a little bit about this lovely woman and, what she's all about and. Why I wanted to be able to talk with her and, and share our conversation with you today. So, uh, Judy has more than two decades of experience in the financial services sector.
She's been responsible for business development and portfolio management of privately held companies from start-ups to middle market. She's also been a senior private banker with Wells Fargo Wealth Management and did retirement planning at New York Life. And in 2021, she published her first book called 365 Days of Abundance, and I think she even has another one coming up too, which we're gonna talk about in a second.
But I, I thought, let's, let's start our interview right there with what prompted you to write this initial book that you came up with? Thank you for asking. I love to talk about it. I was, because of my career in the insurance business I got introduced through the women's market at my company to a course we could take with Bob Proctor.
It was called, Principles of Prosperity. Hmm. And I don't know about you, but when I was a young banker, I was probably 35. I read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill because I was a young mother, trying to pay for braces and bikes and you know, summer camp and I, Think and Grow rich, I wanna be rich. Like that would really help
So I read the book and at the end of it, I was not rich and so I put it on the shelf and didn't, I don't even, I think the copy got donated or something, never saw it again. So I was surprised when I was watching the course with Bob Proctor that here this book pops up again. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
And Bob's suggestion. And I think all of us could take a little kernel from this and use it in our own. He said, Watch each lesson. So it was covering the 13 principles of that book, which that's what there are. he said re, watch every video. They were like 25 or 30 minutes long. Watch every video about that principle every morning for a week.
Hmm. So it takes you, you know, three months to get through the whole thing. But what that did is you picked up something new every time you listened to it. And what I found in it was this, once in a while, oblique reference to the universal laws that caused me to start research. I asked my study group at, at my company, I said, Have any of you heard of the universal laws?
And nobody have is said, Nah. Well, I mean kind of. Sort of, but not really. Yeah. So I said, I'm gonna look up what they are. So I looked them up and typed them up in a neat little list for my whole study group, and they all said, Oh yeah, thank you. But it had really piqued my interest. I had this hunger to know what they were, where they came from, why they're important.
And as I did that study through 2020, remember Covid happened March 13th, 2020. And so I was working from my home office and so every time I had spare time, I'd be, I got, books started stacking up around me on the floor. Do you ever do that? Like stacking up on the floor? Cause there's no room on the shelves.
And I was totally amazed I, I, I couldn't believe what I was reading. I kept seeing references back to the holy scriptures or back to the 13 principles that Napoleon Hill, like what you find is everything is beautifully connected in this spiritual mysterious way. Mm-hmm. which is so marvelous. It can keep you full of gratitude every day.
So I got up on January 7th, 2021 and I said to my husband, cuz I'm the early riser, and he was kind of watching the news in bed, you know, like waiting to get up and I said, David, I just got this idea. I wanna keep these principles and universal laws in my head and heart Every day. somebody should write a book.
That has a daily, you know, like you could keep up with yourself, right? And then of course I walked downstairs to get breakfast and I heard this little voice say, you could write the book. I love it when those voices talk to us. That's something my book came about, You should write a book about love. It's like, yeah, yeah.
I dunno. So I called my daughter in Spain, who's an editor that by career, that's what she is. Oh, nice. And I said, so Taylor. If I wanted to write this, I got this idea and she had, I had told her about being in the Bob Proctor class and stuff, so, so it wasn't new information to her. I said, This is the book I wanna write.
I already have the, the formula. I know what it's gonna look like, yada, yada, yada. And she said, Well, if you wanna finish in time for Christmas sales, you would need to write three posts a day every day. So, At that point, I was full-time at my company. I was trying to make a really high level to get to go on this big fancy trip that they canceled, of course, because of Covid.
But whatever. I won the trip. I just didn't get to go. and so I said, Okay, so I will get up and I'm not an early riser. See, when you have a definite purpose, you will do anything to accomplish it. Mm-hmm. anything, you really will. Oh yeah. And I got up at five 30 every morning, even on vacation. In this beautiful resort, went out on the porch of the, David was sound asleep.
I had set the alarm for five 30, get up and write on my computer for, for two hours until I got my three posts done. So that's how the book came to be born. And it's, it's such a good book. I read it every day. I love that. I love that. And, Yeah, it is interesting. All of these principles and, and we were, we were talking before we got on how, how it seems to, they're all well, and you pointed out they're all connected and, and they're all, do you know Napoleon Hill has an idea, but then they're, that it's.
There's foundations for this in the Bible. And in fact, I, I actually took a course one time at a, at a Unity Church that was called Prosperity for You, and it was really dealing with all of the different times in the Bible where they talk about abundance and things like that. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. so tell me a little bit though, cuz you and I know one of the things we, we wanted to talk about were.
These seven P's to control your thoughts. And, and I think that's in, now you decided to write a companion guide or something. So tell me a little bit about that. And this is actually a book by request. Ah, many of the podcasters that interviewed me and we discussed the seven P's to control your thoughts and here's why it's so important.
there was a survey done in the early forties asking peop, a thousand people. If they thought every day. Hmm. They said yes. They thought every day. The second question of the survey was, what do you think about? Hmm. 95% of them did not have an answer. Oh, wow. So this is what the survey said. They said, if you think every day you will be like a giraffe in a field of mice, you'll be so rare.
    8:06 Hmm....

namaste. I am Gloria Grace Rand and delighted to welcome you back to another addition of Live, love, engage. And I've got a guest with us today who has written a book and I'm very curious to know about his journey and, and what prompted it. And we're gonna hear all about that in a moment. But first, I want to welcome Rod Knoerr to Live, love, engage. Good to be here. I'm excited to share my life and my journey.
It's a, it can be a benefit to your followers. Awesome. Well, let me let all of you know, uh, a little bit about Rod so you have some idea, a little context of what we'll be uh, talking about today. Uh, so Rod is actually, he's a dentist. He's a certified leadership coach, a speaker and devoted husband, uh, to his wife Beth, for 40 years, the last three in the storm of cancer.
Which we'll talk about. He's also a father of five and a grandpa of 13. That's awesome. And as I mentioned, he is an author. He has written a book called Don't Waste the Storm and the Founder of The Newly Formed Be The Hope Foundation. And, uh, soon to be open, Be the Hope Retreat and we'll have to talk about those a little bit later as well.
So most would love to know more about that. But let's start. Today just sharing with our listeners and our viewers on YouTube a little bit about this book that you wrote. So what, what is it actually about and, and why did you decide to write it? Well, my wife and I, after, uh, almost 35 years of marriage, she, uh, had a, this kind of health storm, I'm not gonna get into it.
It wasn't terminal and it was very kind of intense about, supposed to be about two years long. And about 18 months into it, we're seeing, end of the tunnel, a lot of insomnia and a lot of stuff that went with it, Malay and everything. She has weird blood tests and she's diagnosed with terminal cancer and the diagnosis was 18 to 24 months to live no cure.
So yeah, so we went on that journey and, uh, it, uh, eventually and get into more of that, she did. You know, did, did pass away in, in 2019 and about, I mean, we had relocated to, uh, to Grand Rapids, the other side of Michigan for the last treatment. Our two married daughters lived here, and, uh, I chose to stay. Well, about eight months later, we're going through our first Mother's Day, and our anniversary was in May, and I'm, I'm feeling a little, little down and, you know, probably grieving and then I, I realized, it wasn't grieving that what I was feeling.
We were just going into Covid in 2020 and the George Floyd thing had happened in May and I was grieving for our country. Mm-hmm. And I wasn't, I didn't go through Covid the way everyone else did because of the way and what we learned going through the storms of my wife's terminal cancer for three and a half years, and I realized
I need to write this and, uh, yeah. I, I think when you hear the word storm, you think negative. And I don't know where the name, somebody said, where did that name come from? And I, I, I think I read something, Don't waste this grief, don't waste something else. And I don't know. And then in the back of my head, it was there, but it, it really sums it up because what many would think is negative.
The most intense trying five years of our life were the years we grew closest. And that doesn't make sense, but, and, and our impact too. So that, that was kind of the genesis of it. And I, I had started writing it in June of 2020 with the goal of getting the rough draft done by the anniversary of her passing August 6th.
And that day, I, I finished the last chapter. I took another year or so to get it out then with Covid and publishers. But yeah. All that, all that fun stuff. Yeah. With trying to get a book published, I've, I've gone through that as well and also, experienced the, uh, uh, dealing with a loved one with cancer as well, and, and how now with, uh, the passage of time in really seeing that there was a lot of good that came out of it.
But tell, tell us a little bit about, So, so you, you say, don't waste the storm. So what really do you mean by that? Well, and I, and I'll, I think the subtitle of the book unpacks it a little. It's hope filled, thriving, not just barely surviving the storms of life. And, you know, that's what I saw when Covid hit and we all were isolated.
I mean, it’s not judgment, it's something we're living through. I just saw this, this hopelessness, this fear, and I can't tell you how many times did we hear, I can't wait to get back to normal. Yeah. So in essence, you're saying, I'm quit. I'm gonna quit living. I'm putting life on hold until I get back to normal.
And you know, as we were going into the cancer, uh, we had been on some, uh, humanitarian mission trips to Romania for the two years prior to her, three years prior to her cancer. And we were supposed to go like a month after Beth was diagnosed. And I also had a class reunion in September. I hadn't been to one since my 10th and it was gonna be my, maybe my 40th and I was, you know, athlete, student council, all that stuff.
And the first thing I did when she was diagnosed, we didn't know how the cancer treatment was. They said she's gonna do in, she's gonna do outpatient and then she's gonna go inpatient, University of Michigan. And I'm thinking, Oh, what if that's the weekend of the reunion? So I cancel going to the reunion. Well then we, now, we, we were a couple weeks into it, we start the chemo in June and we're supposed to go to Romania in July.
And I don't know, we, we, we just thought about it, talked about it, and we said, You know, let's just go, we're going. And an oncologist said, Your cancer's gonna, your immunities, you can't fight infection, you can't go. And we went and, uh, Gonna laugh, but back in 2016, my wife, a very kind of more mild-mannered person, did something publicly that was very embarrassing for her so she could live life.
Cause he said, Well, you can't go to, you know, you shouldn't go to big gatherings and let people hug you. You know, we, we, we do go to church. You can't do that. So can you imagine what my wife did in 2016 that just totally was embarrassing. I can't imagine. So please share. She wore a mask in public. Oh, is that joke.
Listen, a year after she passes, everyone's wearing a mask, but everyone thought she had an infection. Was starting to give to someone else. But I mean, so that was that. So we did go to Romania and then after a lot of thought, I was active in a, in a men's uh, growth group and she was active in different things and you know.
What responsible people do when a storm hits is they cancel their involvement cause they don't wanna let someone down. And we somehow said, You know what? We're gonna keep on keeping on and if we have to cancel, someone will step to the plate. My classroom reunion was the only thing we canceled in that last almost four years of her life.
And, uh, so, but I, I think the biggest thing I, I talk about when I speak is, uh, it was when we went about nine months later, eight months later at the University of Michigan, she had to spend three weeks at the cancer ward there at ma. And uh, as we were getting there, understand we've been doing life for 30 some years, so, you know,...

Namaste, and welcome. Welcome back to another addition of Live Love, Engage. And I am delighted as always, when I get a chance to interview interesting people for the show. And, uh, This gentleman, I, I had a chance to actually, I don't always get to talk to people beforehand, but we had a lovely conversation a few weeks back and he is a delightful person who is also a, uh, minister.
So I wanna welcome Reverend Dr. David Chotka to live, love, Engage. Thank you very much, is a delight to be here. I'm very thankful for the opportunity. Well, I am looking forward to our discussion cuz this is a, uh, like I said, you have, uh, you've got a wonderful personality, you've got a great sense of humor, and hopefully you'll get to share that with our audience today.
So let me share with. Everyone out there who's, you know, watching on YouTube or you're listening to this podcast, uh uh, just who this person is. So he is the Chair of Alliance Pray, He is a prayer mobilizer, a sought after media guest, an ordained pastor for more than 30 years. And for those of you watching on YouTube, you can see.
He is also the author of three books. And, not only that, he's also has led seminars and conferences, both, uh, nationally and internationally in over 17 countries. He develops resources and training tools to equip God's people for works of service. And, yeah, the books he's written are, Hey, there. Hey, are you there?
Sorry, it's, it's me gut. Okay. I'm gonna start it over again.
I'm, I'm at my notes, but I'm also looking at your book there, so it says that title to you. So, hey, are you there? It's me, God. How to listen, test and know when God speaks. That's what that title's about. . I love it. That's much better. Yeah. See Much better than I could have ever done. See, this is, this is awesome.
And that, that is his latest book. He's also written Power Praying and Healing Prayer is God's idea, uh, which is actually a book that I got to read and that he actually coauthored with Reverend Dr. Maxi Dunham. And, uh, that was a, a book that, uh, Described as something like healing, which can seem complicating and intimidating to make it simple and accessible, and, and it was.
And so. I was originally gonna ask you actually about that book specifically, but I think I wanna ask you instead what, what has prompted you to become an author, you know, as, as if you don't have enough to do in your life, you know, . So what, what prompted you to write all of these different books? Well, you know, every, I, I've had, uh, three, actually four mentors who came into my life.
And, uh, the, Hey, are you, there's me. God book describes one of those moments, but all four of them have been internationally respected scholars who had itinerant ministries in local church ministries and who wrote, uh, and made contributions to, to the Lord's work. So I'll, I'll tell you what, how this all began.
So, I was a pastor and in the States I would've been United Methodist, uh, in Canada. I was United Church of Canada. I'm now Christian Missionary Alliance, but regardless of. Who cares, . But I was, I was, uh, serving in a church and it was an isolated northern congregation, and it was a lonely time being a single guy up in the high north and, uh, not having a lot of peers around me.
And over the course of time I wanted, I, I got invited to organize an event that would help our area, our regional cluster of, uh, of pastors and leaders. And so we met in a church and we spent the whole ready day trying to make the plan. And of course, we're broke. We're all small churches, we. Money . And, you know, I'm, I'm pastoring my church and they're pastoring their churches.
And we, we, we actually came up with the idea that the, the area region was called a presbytery and they wanted to do a faith in the family event for our people. Now, all of our churches were less than a hundred. There was one church of 200, but all of them were pretty tiny. Wow. And if you know anything about Canadian, ge, It was parallel 53, which is, uh, three hours north of Edmonton, which is the city of a million, but it was nothing up there except trees and rocks and waters.
Oh my goodness. Yeah. That's really up north . Well, not for a Canadian. There's, if you got in the car and drove 10 more hours at 60 mile an hour, you'd come to the Arctic Circle. Right. But, uh, even regardless of that, it was an isolated northern town. And, uh, we made all these plans and of course we had these grandiose, magnificent, large visions.
And if you'd have seen our list, you would've, Gloria, you would've been so impressed. Uh, we had these world class speakers, number one, number two, number three, and we had two other speakers at the end of the list. Number four was a guy who lived about 35 mile down the road, , and he would do the event for 50 bucks in a love offering.
And that was our budget. And then number five was somebody else who lived in the town over from that, and he would do the, the event for 50 bucks in a love offering. And of course we didn't have, You know, we didn't have the timeline or the big audience and that kind of thing. We had to do it quickly, and so we spent the whole day doing this thing.
We come up with a budget and my committee looked at me and said, You're the chairman. I said, I am. And he said, Well, you know, a phone call. In those days, it was 1985 when this started. In those days, a phone across the border was 50 bucks. Mm. And if you talked for a long time, that was a P minute rate that was exorbitant, and we didn't have any money.
And these were American presenters mo, for the most part. Mm. And they wanted big cities, you know, and they wanted a large honorarium and they wanted a four star hotel or a five star hotel, and they wanted a conference standard and they wanted to have a book table and all the kinds of things. And us little dinky churches couldn't afford to do that.
And so they all looked at me and said, Well, David, if you wanna waste your dime, you can make those three. But they're not coming . So we recommend that you start with number four or number five, right? And if four says no, do number five. And if five says no, find somebody and just give us the event. Do it in three months out.
So we all laughed because we'd spent the whole ready day doing this thing, and I drove back to my little church. I drove two and a half hours and a gravel road to get. And I went to bed and I got up the next morning and I had, This is how this all began. I had a prayer time that was banal and ordinary and flat.
I had a list of people in the hospital. I was praying for them, and I had a list of friends that I was praying for them, and I sang him a praise and I read a scripture and I finished my prayer time. And then I got up from the floor and I. You know, maybe I should pray about that event. . So, so I now back down and I had this list and number one, number two, number three were there.
And they all told me not to start there, but I thought, well, you know, I could at least talk to God about it before I just closed the door on the thing. And so as I began to pray, I said, Lord, should I, Candidate number one to come to the presbytery to do a faith in the family event. The only way I can describe what happened next is I felt an internal, how do I say this?
A negative internal collapsing of all my internal muscles pushing into the middle,...

You're listening to the Lived Love Engage Podcast on today's show, How a painful breakup caused one woman to learn radical self care through the healing art of poetry. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the Love Method, and author of the number one Amazon best seller, Live, Love, Engage, How to stop doubting yourself and start Being Yourself.
In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully, love deeply, and engage authentically so you can create a life and business with more impact, influence and income. Welcome to Live Love, Engage.
Namaste and welcome to Live Love, Engage, and I am. Super excited today to welcome my guest, who is also a dear friend who I've known for six years now.
Yeah, I was double checking the dates just to make sure, that I had the math right and it said, Yeah, we met about six years ago and she is an amazing person. I'm gonna tell you all about her in just a second. But first I wanna welcome Brenda Bryan to live, Love, Engage. It's so good to be here. Thank you for the invitation.
Yeah. And it's excited to know that we've known each other for six years and what a journey we've both been on. it's been, you know, to be able to support each other and anchor each other and remind each other. I mean, this is kind of like the journey of that makes everything we do worthwhile. Right?
Absolutely. And yeah, it has been an incredible journey, thinking back to where I was six years ago. It's all good. It's, it's been ups and downs and, and, and wonderfulness. So, I wanna read this bio cuz I, I love your bio. I love how she starts off and she says that Brenda is a kick ass inspirational speaker, not just an ordinary speaker.
No, she's a kick ass inspirational speaker. The diviner of human potential and as a transformational Coach and mastermind facilitator, she supports women to unmask and nurture their genius, empowering them to live in the strength of their passion. And she demonstrates authenticity, a warm-hearted humor with a deep wealth of knowledge of how important communication is to feminine power.
And in fact, we actually had you on the podcast a couple years ago, the first year I started and kind of talking about feminine power, then, but I wanted to have you on because this time around because you actually have become an author and she has a book called Inward and Beyond Transformation is a conscious choice.
And it is a phenomenal book. I highly recommend it, and that's what we're really gonna talk about today because I was just blown away by the book, which is a book of poems. But I wanna let you tell the story of what prompted you to write this book. Oh, divine guidance prompted me, in it and, and I needed a way to engage in a creative healing process.
That would allow me to, to really speak feelings that I was having trouble speaking in coaching sessions or with my therapist or whatever. Just like it was just getting all mixed up and backwards and somehow I wasn't satisfied. So I just really said, you know, I need a way to, to express these things that are, that's more in alignment with.
My language, my, my sensibility of creativity. And so that's when, you know, basically poems started to download. And because of technology, you know, I'm dyslexic, so for me, writing and spelling and. you know, which is why I'm a really good speaker because I bypass all of that to get to where the words matter to me, right?
But, but in the process of, of wanting to engage in being a more effective writer and to learn the art of writing, I'd been working on it, but these poems just kind of Kept coming, and I would just take the one line, or I'd take the whole poem, whatever came through, and I would just, Oh. Put it on my phone, you know, And, and I, and I, and it, you know, sometimes it was three o'clock in the morning, sometimes it was in the middle of doing dishes.
Sometimes it was, I was out on a walk. It didn't matter if it, if there was a spark of like, Oh, that's a great line, or, Oh, I never thought about it that way. I would write it down. And then the next thing you know, I'm, I'm writing, you know, I've got, probably got about a hundred poems written and different essays written.
And, this book, Inward and Beyond Transformation is a Conscious choice, is a selection of, of poem poems that tell a story about the journey of falling in Lust. And falling outta lust. And then the work that goes along with falling out, and then the work that goes along with choosing to use the, the, the journey as a healing process.
And that was really, you know, I'm, you know, I'm never without that journey because I think that is the work that I, first of all, I do, and I support others in being that. So this book is very vulnerable and very raw for me, and I never thought I'd expose myself quite this publicly. But, but everything was, everything was, was being said.
Was, go ahead and make this the next step. Put the book out. And I didn't know how that was gonna happen. And of course, as, as, as all things divine happen, it's like a really good friend of mine was a publisher. I mean, I know she was publishing her own books, but I didn't know she was gonna help me over, over, over the, over the bridge and, and, you know, to, to a different land.
And she did. And it was amazing journey to work with her and to see this in print because, you know, I wouldn’t. You know, nowhere in the journey was I working to be a published author. I was just following guidance and guidance said to do this, and I did. Well, I'm glad that you followed the, the guidance because even I, I wrote a review for, for the book on Amazon and just reading the other reviews, it was, I, I read them after.
It was like, I wanted, sometimes when I'm reviewing books, I'll like read what other people say and I was like, No, I'm just gonna go with my gut. And then I, then I read the other reviews. I’m like. Yeah, we all kind of said the same thing. It was just, you know, profound and raw and just, you know, the, and, and the courage, and, and beauty that you really put down into words to describe the joy and pain of, of this relationship that you were in and, and ultimately the relationship with yourself, which I think is the, the most important relationship we have cuz it's the first one we have really.
And even though I know they say, you know, with your mother, but really it's, it's, you're with you your whole life and you, you've gotta be able to be, connected with yourself and, and. So it's, it's, it's a hopeful book. I'll say that. But I, I wanna ask you one thing, and it's interesting cuz you talked about the fact that you're dyslexic.
So, I noticed something and, and so this may have been unintentional, but I love how it turned out. So in, in yhe poem that you wrote, it's called Let Me, and it starts out, Let me investigate your soul. Let me peek at the heart of my lover and see how to love you more. And when I read that, see I, I'm like my brain.
I'm like, I'm always looking for grammar and spelling and it's just, just, I don't know. That's just how my quirky brain works out. So you spelled peek, p e a k, like the top of a mountain rather than p e e k, which means to look quickly and so. I'm wondering. Hmm. You know, this works either way, frankly. And I was wondering if you, if you had, you know, spelled it p e a k in on purpose or, or not, or if it was just a divine sort of cool way to let people make their own interpretation.
Oh, I, you know, it's, it's, it's in, in its best form. It is actually divine and in, and in its common thing. It's a spelling mistake, but, But there's the fun of, of all of it, right? Yeah. Is is that when, when a word doesn't get picked up by spell check or by your editors, and it, and it proceeds to go forward,...

You're listening to the Live Love Engage podcast. On today's show, author Brian Vannoy shares the deeper spiritual meaning of his supernatural novel falling toward redemption. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the Love Method, and author of the number one Amazon best seller, Live, Love, Engage, How to stop doubting yourself and start Being Yourself.
In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully, love deeply, and engage authentically so you can create a life and business with more. Influence and income. Welcome to Live Love, Engage.
Namaste and welcome. I am so glad that you are with us today because I've got a guest joining us who I connected with a few months ago.
And I want to, I’m gonna tell you all about him in a second, but first I wanna welcome Brian Vannoy to Live. Love, Engage. Hi, how are you? Thank you for having me. Nice to be her. Well, it is good to have you and I wanna share with all of our listeners today, just, a little bit about this gentleman and, well, I thought he would make an interesting guest for us today because, That says, Bio says he's a true Renaissance man.
Brian is a, he's been a formerly trained chef who worked for Fortune 500 Company, four Star Hotel and Premier Caterer. Then he's also been involved in auto manufacturing working with Ford, making the F-150 truck. And he’s also currently an over the road trucker with over a million safe miles to his credit.
And in, along the way, he also actually was kind called to write a book. He's wrote a book that is described as a spiritual supernatural novel called Falling toward Redemption. And, I would love for you to share with our listeners, Brian, what, what kinda prompted you to able to, or to decide that you, embark on a another career as, as an author? I’ll be 63 in November,
Maybe. I haven't quite figured out what I wanna do with my life yet, but, That's okay. Cuz God does, God, God has. So, about 15 years ago, he came to me as God always does, when you seem to be least prepared for him to do that. And, he chose me. He told me he wants me to write books, which of course I was Jonah and I ran away as fast as I could because you have to understand English was my worst subject.
the only time I ever had to do summer school in summer was in seventh grade was because of English. Last thing I could ever dream of myself being would be a published author. but God has this unique way of picking the least. People that you would think of to fulfill his purpose. So, he gives me stories and like movie scenes, the whole movie scenes and, the way I was given these stories in the books, working on a trilogy book one is out now book, like you said, book two is in the hands, the same hands of the same.
They did book one and I'm desperately trying to finish book three of a trilogy. Wow. And, it’s, it's not so much about the books the way I I was given them and the way that he wants me to write these books is the core messaging is messaging that people have heard are their lives. No one's fallen too far to beyond, to be beyond God's grace, mercy, love and forgiveness, redemption, and interesting timing.
That book, the physical books, were launched Easter week as everybody focuses on the purpose of Easter. And the reason we celebrate Easter is because of salvation and, and the work of Jesus Christ to calvary and forgiveness. And, it just happened to work. I have, I have, I say that tongue in cheek. It just happened to work out, but of course that doesn't, that doesn't exist with God.
He had that planned all along. So the eBooks have been out since, the beginning of the year. You have to understand this has been a 15 year journey to this point, because I wrote it half-heartedly and finished. In record time, but it showed, and it needed a lot of work. But I, I was adamant about, All right, that's it.
I'm, I'm done. I did what you told me to do and I forgot about it. And he left me alone for 10 years. About three years ago, he came to me and said, You're not done yet. Oh, you need to rewrite this. I'm like, You gotta be kidding me. I thought I was done with. Because I kind of just forgot about it. I didn't, you know, I thought it was just, I thought it was just writing it for my own edification, my own, the idea of like pursuing, you know, this to become public, you know, was like, ugh.
You know? But I did it. I mean, as I could look back on it now, and I'm like, How in the world did I end up as a published author? I have no concept of how that happens. Except by the grace of God. And I mean, I queried over 300 literary agents. I don't have a literary agent. I have a publishing contract with Morgan James with no literary agent.
Wow. So people that are pursuing this, take a moment. Let this sink in. I mean, cuz things like this don't happen. Uh, You know, but I, I queried like over 300 agents and publishers, large and small, both here in the US and Australia and England, and trying to get in the back door with made the big five, you know, with like the Australian branch of, of Penguin House, you know, that sort of thing.
But of course it doesn't work like that. Yeah. You know, and but one of my LinkedIn contact. Just happened to be, again, tongue of cheek. Just happened to be , the acquisitions editor of Morgan James, Mr. Terry Whelan. And it's funny because they were one of my first rejection letters, uh, like Stephen King made a great, made a great point about his journey, how he started out as he had this big spike on the wall that he impaled all his rejection letters on and, and, I had their rejection letter because what I sent them was the first, basically the first draft that I kind of wrote half-heartedly.
Right. And over the course of a couple months, Mr. Wayne and I went back and forth and he's like, Did you ever send me what you wrote? And I'm like, I didn't wanna say, Well, yeah I did, but you rejected it. I'm like, Well, I told a little white line. I'm like, Well, no, I did it because actually, you know, I had gone back and rewrote it with help.
Right. And he's like, Well, send it to me. Send me everything you got. And I'm like, Really?? This doesn't happen. You know? I'm like, Sure. You know? And a couple weeks later, uh, history, he's like, We're gonna, He's like, You've, you've made it more, You made it farther than like 95% of the people that I see. You know?
I'm like, mm-hmm. Okay. I'm like, What does that mean?? I don't understand what you're saying. He's like, We're getting ready to offer you a contract. I'm like,
you know, like, Oh. So I now have a contract that covers everything. I mean, it's just audio and foreign rights and Wow. You know? I'm like, Wow. So it actually is coming up on two years now, June. We're almost through May. So I guess I could say next month, uh, June will be two years. I had the contract in my hands for two years.
So, and it's been, it's been, you know, it's been, uh, I've been published, I'm sorry. I've been posting, little vignettes, little videos on, I, I primarily use Instagram and Facebook and. LinkedIn and I call my publishing journey and I post these little all, all the, all the good and bad and ugly, you know, of the journey that I've been on.
I mean, it's been delayed, uh, primarily for financial reasons because I couldn't, I just couldn't afford to do the things I needed to do. Uh, I'm now an owner operator. Before I was just a company driver. Mm-hmm. So I wasn't making really that. Like I'm making now, even with the, the high diesel prices. I mean, it is kind of put a crimp on everything, but Yeah.
You know, uh, but I, I'm here talking to you because I could afford to attend the National Publicity Summit. Mm-hmm. I mean, there's no other, there's no other way. I mean, because I, I, I made the income as an owner operator was, gave me the opportunity to be here talking to nice people like you. You know,...

So, you've done a lot in your life and in your career and, and. I'm just wondering if we, I thought maybe a good way to start is what actually got you here. You know what I, I like to find out, you know, how people's journeys began. So what, what got you even interested in being able to help people, do publicity and things like that?
Yeah, that's a really, really great story. And so I was rear ended at the age of 19. I ended up having shoulder surgery that made me paralyzed with only one arm that worked. You know, tried numerous things. I had no more insurance. I ended up signing up for a Qigong class and was able to get full range in my arm in two months.
Wow. And I realized that there's a whole ocean of possibilities within our mind that can heal our body, and that there's so many solutions that are not mainstream that can truly heal. And so I became obsessed with getting the message out to the masses, to truly make an impact. Wow. Now see I wasn't even aware of that.
And, and, and here I've, you know, and we had an interview, you know, years ago. Aand I guess then we were more focused on publicity. So that is intriguing to me. So what I, I wanna explore that a little bit more. So what, so you say you got involved in, in Qigong. What was it about that, that you think that really appealed to you?
I'm curious. Well, I, I don't know that it appealed to me, but at that point I was really hopeless. Like I I had tried everything else and they had, I had no more insurance. They were telling me I needed another insurance. So I was, I was a little nervous about that, but, I feel like an earth angel showed up and said, My husband, he didn't get in a car wreck, but he had a left shoulder.
Injury and he healed his arm with Qigong and just come check it out. And so, I went to a couple classes and I thought, this is strange because I can't move my arm, right? And they kept saying, Imagine your arm is in these positions. So it was my imagining and after two classes, I started moving my arm, which I was, you know, that gave me the hope and the, the inspiration.
And then after two months I was like, okay, there's something really powerful with, with our mind and our and to me also that hope and that willingness and that, you know, I was just, I was, I was committed to not giving up. Yeah. And, and that's an important point, I think especially, you know, in whatever you're doing and certainly in when you have a health challenge, to be able to have hope is you're gonna have a lot better
Outcome or, or at least a better transition sometimes. If, because, you know, sometimes we don't, we don't know what's, what's in store for us. And, but if you can have that better mind frame about it, you're going to at least get through each day a little bit better. So, So that's amazing. So, so you started actually, I guess then promoting this, this healing modality.
So how did that then wind up going from that to actually helping other people in their business? Yeah. Well, well I, I, I grew up with having over 10 surgeries and so I started looking at, at my past, I got into Louise Hay, the, the emotion relationship. And at the time I had, you know, as I, as I got on my journey, my kids, we had generational hearing things.
My mom was deaf in her right ear. My sister was deaf in her right ear. and. And I had multiple surgeries in my right ear and I was really committed to not do, you know, having that same thing happen. So I just, at, in my research, what I found is that there were all of these people that, that had had successes, but it wasn't mainstream.
And then there were all of these practitioners and healers that were really good, what they were doing, but they weren't good at marketing. And so I started an organization at the time called Conscious Living Partnership. And the, the idea was to have collaboration, help get the message out and, and during that time, I have to add another piece in here.
There was a, there was a lot of pieces coming together. Sometimes, you know, sometimes we get messages from different things and it's enough to give us the courage. And at the time, I remember, a dear friend who was an N.D., which stands for Naturopathic Doctor. She, the state of Florida made her a felony overnight and she'd been practicing for 30 years and they, they, they came up with some law.
And many people, like even today I can go to an audience and how many people know that this law was passed. They didn't know it was passed. And I watched her frantically, Gloria, trying to get people to call their congressmen, do all of this stuff. And we didn't have a body of people that came together.
And so I just kept getting, We need to come together and share these messages, we need to come together so that we can have that impact. So things like this don't, don't happen again....
