And today is no exception. I've been learning about this woman and she is got quite the story to tell, which is also part of what her M-O is as well. So I wanna first, well, first of all, welcome Jesse Shuraleff to live love, engage. Gloria. Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited to, to be here.

So let me share with those of you watching on YouTube and those of you listening just who Jesse is. She is an effective storyteller and passionate people first leader. she spent 13 and a half years at Google.
Effectively building and leading strong sales and marketing teams, partnering with some of the largest global brands in the world and creating, building and maintaining relationships is at the core of who she is and authenticity, vulnerability and storytelling have been the cornerstone of her skillset to get her where she is today as a leader.
A podcaster and a mom. And we'll have to talk about your podcast a little bit later on as well. I'd love to hear a little bit more about that, but I know one of the things that we wanted to focus on today was empathy. And cause you say that empathy is your leadership superpower. So how did you come to discover that, cuz I think it has something to do with your, your personal journey to get to where you are today.
So can you share that with us? Yeah, of course. So I do believe empathy is, is one of our super powers that we all can possess and you know, whether we decide to lean into it or not is, is. You know, our, our choice and for me, it's interesting. And the reason why I say it's a choice is it's something that, you know, I probably leaned into a lot, but unconsciously and as I started to, you know, go through moments of my life and my own sort of journey in life, It was a choice that I started to make more consciously.
And there's so many stories and moments that I can point to. But one that I typically speak to is, I was somebody who I was born into an amazing family who was so supportive. And as the children of, of baby boomers was constantly told to, you know, get a good job, go to a good college, you know, stability, financially, get the house, right.
Like all of those things was. Taught to me at such a young age. And so I did all of that. I did what was expected. I got the good grades. I went to the good university. I got the job at Google and, and it was all wonderful. And, you know, I didn't have a lot of big, hard things that had happened to me in my life until I…
Tried to become a mom. And it seems so silly to say sometimes, but I entered into my marriage, you know, we decided we were gonna wait to start our family. We wanted to explore the world. And then when it was time, I just assumed it would happen. Like everyone else around me, of course. And right. And it just, that just wasn't our journey.
And so through, you know, several years of trying, unsuccessfully and then going through numerous infertility treatments, such as IUI and ultimately IVF, we eventually became pregnant and I was pregnant with twins and, you know, it was just such an amazing day when we got that phone call saying that like my blood test was positive and I will never remember, forget where I was.
We were driving actually from Chicago to Cape Cod. We were right by Notre Dame. And so we actually stopped there and walked around as I was calling the doctor back. And it was just, you know, all of the feelings. And then I didn't have the easiest pregnancy. I had morning sickness all day, every day.
And what I learned was that, you know, when you, someone going through infertility, they don't prepare you for when you become pregnant. And I sort of went into my pregnancy, assuming like I'd had such a hard go of becoming pregnant, why would anything ever be, you know, not okay during my pregnancy. And that wasn't the case for us.
Our son was, was very, very sick and ultimately we had to make, what was the hardest decision that I've ever made in my life, in order to save the life of my daughter and my own life and it just was this experience where, I went inward. I really shoved things down. I didn't deal with it. In fact, I was actually on a plane for work three days after my procedure.
And it just was this moment in my life where I realize how hard it was. And how often people are not talking about their, their own experiences, their own moments, where they felt alone or isolated. And I will never forget this moment. I was riding the subway in Chicago, they call it the L and I was staring at my reflection and I was looking around at all of my fellow commuters.
It was a Monday morning and I looked around and I was like, no one would know, no one would know that I just went through years of infertility of sticking my bodies with needles, getting womb massages. That's legitimately a thing you need to Google it, all of this stuff. And, and then ultimately had to make this decision.
And it was my moment of Aha. Like we all have these masks that we all wear and put on each day. And how many of my other fellow commuters that morning had their own stories, their own journeys. And as I started to share a little bit more about my journey, so many people told me, me too. and that was surprising to me because it wasn't that.
So, you know, everyone, I talked to also had, you know, experienced infertility or lost a child, but there was always a common theme or a common thread that someone could pull through. And so that was my aha. You know, as, as we're leaning into empathy and understanding that we only see the tip of the iceberg, how do we actually create a more inclusive space for each other in conversations, both at work and at home?
Well, first off my condolences on and such, such a loss and congratulations so you have, you do have a, a lovely, Oh, I'm sure she's not a baby anymore. How, how old is your daughter now? She's not, my oldest is six and then we have another IVF baby. Who's she's not baby. She's four too. oh, wow. well, that's, those are lovely ages.
Oh, you should be enjoy this time because they grow up much too fast. You too. And I'm just really appreciate you sharing that. Well, number one, sharing the story with us and can you then I guess go, go continue a little bit because then obviously, I guess you, and, and just reading up a little bit about you, you decided to be able to, to that you wanted to be able to tell this story and, and, and you suggested it a little bit that you started talking with people, but you were even doing it more.
What's the word I'm looking for? I guess more out there my brain is going blank today, so, okay. You know what I mean? So, so, so what happened next? Tell me that. Yeah, so, you know, again, I think of it another moment. So what actually started to spur me to talk about my, my experience was what I call my six oh three moment.
So there was a moment where I was standing in our master bathroom, in our house in Chicago....

    Receiving God's Grace
    Host: Gloria Grace Rand
Welcome to the Live Love Engage podcast! Whether you're listening on your favorite podcast platform or tuning in live on Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube, I'm so glad you're here.
What Does It Mean to Open Your Heart to Receive God's Grace?
Today I'm diving into what it means to open your heart to receive God's grace and why this matters for entrepreneurs and anyone seeking to live fully, love deeply, and engage authentically.
The LOVE Method: A Deeper Exploration
This topic stems from my ongoing inquiry into the LOVE Method, which I wrote about in my book Live Love Engage. The LOVE Method came to me at the end of 2016 as an acronym, and I've been called to dive deeper into its meaning.
A couple of weeks ago, I discussed the "L" in LOVE—Letting go and letting God. Initially, this was about releasing limiting beliefs and feelings of unworthiness. But now I understand it more deeply: it's about letting go of the idea that we are separate from God.
The "O" in LOVE: Open Your Heart to Receive
The "O" stands for Open Your Heart to Receive. In my book, I explored this concept through practical examples:
Being open to receive money as a business owner—allowing clients to pay you willingly
Being open to receive help—recognizing you can't do everything yourself as an entrepreneur
Being open to receive compliments—especially important for women who often discount praise about their appearance or work
All of this boils down to one thing: being able to receive love.
    Grace: Another Word for Love
Through journaling and connecting with my higher self, I received a revelation: opening your heart to receive is really about opening your heart to receive God's grace.
Grace is what sustains us. Grace is another word for love—given to us by God and experienced by us as love. And here's the beautiful part: it's something we can give to ourselves too.
A Personal Example: Grace in Action
This morning provided a perfect example. I got a late start on my journaling, and I could feel tension rising. My ego was getting impatient—I was running behind, hadn't prepared for the podcast, hadn't even printed my notes.
Then I took a breath. I reminded myself that some chores (like changing the kitty litter for my two cats) could wait. I could write at least one journal page to get my creative juices flowing.
In those few seconds, the stress eased. This was God's grace acting in my life—accessed simply by choosing how I wanted to be in that moment.
Moving Into a Higher State of Being
When you open your heart to receive God's grace, you move into a higher state of being. You can rest in the knowingness that:
Everything is happening in divine timing
    All is in divine order
You are not separate from God—you are connected
A note on terminology: I use "God" because it resonates with me from my Catholic upbringing. Please use whatever term works for you—the Universe, Source, your Higher Self, the Creator. What matters is tuning into your higher self and allowing yourself to experience the grace, love, joy, and peace available to us every single day.
    The Gift of Choice
One of the most wonderful gifts our Creator gave us is free will. In every moment, we can choose:
    How we want to be
    What we want to do
    What we want to have
When challenges arise—whether drama in the world, family conflicts, or difficult situations with friends, clients, or coworkers—we can step back and ask:
"How do I want to respond to this? What would be the loving way to respond?"
When we stop and breathe, we give our brain time to respond from the higher part, not the primitive limbic brain with its fight-or-flight response. This pause allows inspiration and intuition to provide another way forward.
    You Always Have a Choice
Sometimes the answer is as simple as: "I don't want to engage in this right now." You can:
Turn off the television if it's bothering you
Step away from social media if it's disturbing your peace
Choose not to engage with a person or situation
You have the power to decide who you want to be in any given moment. That's another example of God's grace right there.
    Stop Operating on Autopilot
Too often we operate on autopilot, saying: "This is the way I was raised. This is the way it is. I've always done things this way."
But it doesn't have to be that way. You can start your life over right now, in this moment. If you don't like what's going on in your life, you can change it. You don't need anyone's permission (unless you're under 18—then check with your parents).
    The "Stop It" Story
I recently attended a virtual event with Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God. During Q&A, a woman expressed feeling overwhelmed with angst and stuck in victim mode. His advice? Watch Bob Newhart's "Stop It" sketch on YouTube.
I looked it up during the break—it's hysterical! It's a parody from Mad TV where Bob plays a psychiatrist, and when a woman keeps complaining, he simply tells her: "Stop it. Just stop it."
That's the point: If you don't like what's going on in your life, you have the power to stop it and start again. Do something that serves you, lights you up, and fills your cup.
    Daily Word: Grace Upon Grace
I want to share a reading from Unity's Daily Word (April 19, 2013):
Affirmation: I feel the grace of God as infinite love and acceptance.
    Reading:
If during an unfortunate circumstance I received unexpected help that brought peace and relief, then I have known the grace of God.
Grace does not favor one individual over another. It is an unconditional expression of God's love for all. Grace does not depend on what I do or do not do—it is always available to me.
I am humbled to know I do not have to earn the gift of grace. It is God-given. I feel the grace of God upon me as love and acceptance.
I experience grace when I receive:
    A new insight
The answer to a difficult challenge
The right and perfect people appearing in my life just when I need them
I am blessed in countless ways, and I am thankful for God's grace.
Scripture: "From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace." — John 1:16
Grace is available to every single one of us—all seven-plus billion people living on this planet. That's a truly lovely blessing.

    TRANSCRIPT
You're listening to the live love engage podcast on today's show how to use fairy tales for your own personal development. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the love method and author of the number one, Amazon Best seller, Live. Love. Engage. - how to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself.
In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully love, deeply and engage authentically. So you can create a life and business with more. Act influence and income. Welcome to live love, engage.
Namaste and welcome, welcome to another addition of Live. Love. engage. And I am so glad that you are with us today because I am delighted to welcome a woman who is, someone who I, I have an affinity for. She's a creator. Let's, let's put it that way. And, and I've, and I've always been fascinated with, with film. I mean my whole life, frankly, so, and I know she's involved with that, but I'm gonna tell you a little bit more about her in a second, but first off, I wanna welcome Laura Lewis-Barr to live love, engage.
Thank you, Gloria. Very excited to meet you and be here. Yeah. Well, I am excited to have our conversation, cuz we're gonna be talking. We're gonna be talking about fairy tales and Laura's journey. But first I wanna tell you who she is and, and. You know, what, what makes her an authority on this subject.
So she has worked as a playwright, a freelance director and theater professor for over 15 years. And after her play, Cloistered Honey was made into a low budget film. Laura began making independent short films, and she actually does Stop motion shorts, and they have been screened at festivals around the country.
And, you can view them there on her website and, and we'll share more about that information probably at the end of the broadcast. So make you sure you're listening for that and watching. but I wanted to start, I definitely wanna hear a little bit about your, your journey, but I really wanna talk. I thought we'd start off with, what is, what gets you excited about doing stop motion animation, I guess, I guess that's what it’s called right.
and doing, creating these types of work, works. Wow. Such a great question. So imagine my basement and I have a stage, my husband built me and I have Barbies on magnets. So they are in position for the next scene. And I go down to do my laundry and they are waiting for me ready to film the next, right now I'm doing a short on the holy grail legend, the search for the holy grail.
And I, you know, I think something about miniatures has always just fascinated me. I think as somebody who's very interested in Jungian psychology, I would say they're archetypal. I would say that they resonate somehow deeply in us. And then one more thing, I. I originally started this because I bought a camera and I wanted to learn how to use it.
And these would be my patient actors and they are, and, I just fell in love with stop motion and the ability to tell a story that way, as I learned the camera. Well, I, I, I love that. And, and, and it is interesting that you, you know, you talk about the, the actors because yeah. At least they're not gonna talk back to you.
They're not so you can just give them all the direction you want and they're gonna have to do it. So, which I think is kind of cool. Yeah, I, I have to confess, I must be kind of a control freak because I adore, you know, I worked with live actors for a long time and, you know, they don't always do what you ask them to, but the Barbies do.
That's cool. So talk to us a little bit about how you, you know, really what, what brought you here. So, you know, cuz I mentioned you, you were, or, well, still are, you've worked as a playwright. You've been a, you've been a director, you've been a professor and now you're you're doing this. So how, how did that, what was that journey like?
How did that evolve into what you're doing now? Yeah. So one of my plays that you read. Cloister Honey was made into a film and I was like, film, film lasts forever. Plays end at closing night. Mm-hmm and I just became enamored. So I bought this camera, started making stop motion films, and then the pandemic hit and wow.
I was in such a sweet space because I could do this whole filmmaking in my house by myself. And so for two years during lockdown and I had been teaching public speaking. That's where my career had gone. I couldn't do that anymore. And so I really experienced the joy of being a creator without any limits, I could make whatever I wanted and take my characters wherever I wanted.
So that's generally how I got here and now I'm on my 13th or 14th film. And since I love fairy tales, there's no end to the tales I can tell. Yeah, absolutely. And, you, you mentioned earlier, you said something about, Jungian philosophy or theory or, and, I want. Actually, no, you know, before I go there, I wanna actually ask you one other question before I dive into that, because I just realized that there may be people listening or watching this recording, and they're like, what the heck is, what does she mean
Stop motion. So can you maybe just briefly explain, or maybe even. You know, give an example. Maybe someone might have seen it. Not really realize that that's what that is. Sure. Well, I guess the Grommit movies are stop motion if you've seen those. And it's essentially taking a photograph One after another, after another and putting them together in a sequence.
So I, I move a Barbie, just a tiny bit, take a photo, tiny bit, take a photo. And eventually there's a movement that is like a live action. Oh, very cool. And I imagine it seems like that might be. Some people, or at least might think, boy, that sounds like it's gonna be really tedious work to be able to put that together, or at least let's say maybe, maybe not tedious, but, labor intensive, maybe might be a better way to put it.
I'm not sure. For sure. And I guess it is what you love. I get to play with dolls and I'm really loving that. If I were doing it on the computer, some people do animation just via computer. That for me would be much harder than Fest this physical manipulation. And my style is kind of scrappy. It's not perfect, you know, and that suits me and my subjects fine, but yeah, it's labor intensive.
I can't get, 'em done that fast. Yeah at I, like I said, I've well, actually I think I was mentioning before, even before we got on the interview today that I've always been, I've always been fascinated with movies and, and I used to way back when there used to be a magazine called premier magazine and I loved reading it.
And just everything about, about the entertainment industry has always interested me, but, you know, I studied acting in college, but didn't do anything with it. So I just, the closest I got was being able to work in television. So at least I have had that experience, but I, I, I love creativity and I think it's really cool.
So now I wanna get back to where I was starting to head and. You know, you talk about that, you're dealing with fairy tales and you mentioned also something about Jungian theory, Carl Jung, the psychologist. So what is it about that? a little bit, maybe expand on that theory and then why you're, you're focusing in on fairy tales.
Yes. So I've had two passions in my life. Theater/drama and psychology. And I was studying to be a counselor. So I have a lot of research and a lot of personal experience with the field of psychology and Jung is the one that I love the best. For those people, Jungians, fairy tales are sort of like dreams of a culture and they have a lot of
Embedded wisdom in them, supposedly. And so, I mean, fairy tales are just fun on a surface level. Right. But then we can start analyzing the characters as maybe being parts of ourselves, like parts of dreams....

You're listening to the live love engage podcast. On today's show, what love has to do with money and investing. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the love method and author of the number one, Amazon Best seller, Live. Love. Engage. - how to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself. In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully love, deeply and engage authentically so you can create a life and business with more impact, influence and income. Welcome to live love, engage.
Namaste and welcome. Welcome again to another episode of live. Love. engage. And I am really excited about our guest today because we've been having a discussion before we even got started recording today.
And, and it's just sparking new ideas of, of originally I had one idea of where to take this, but now I'm thinking maybe a different idea of where to take our conversation. So, first off I wanna welcome Kim Curtis to Live. Love. Engage. Thank you, Gloria. Appreciate being here. Well, I am really excited to, as I said to talk with you because Kim is a money person.
She is a bestselling author of money secrets, and a nationally recognized wealth management advisor and speaker, president, and CEO of wealth legacy Institute. And she's been profiled in several publications, including the wall street journal and what I really find refreshing and also inspiring is the fact that you are a woman in the financial arena because I was doing some research.
And then you actually pointed out to me as well. Cause I was curious to know. It's a male dominated industry. And I was wondering just what the percentage of women are and and it's pretty small. So I, I'm gonna let you elaborate on that in a second and also just tell us then why, what, what sort of drove you, to be able to get into the business you're in, the business of money.
The business of money. I love that. I love that, you know, it's such an interesting. Journey that I had because I also have a legal background. Oh, okay. And so, and that's what moved me out to Colorado to go to law school in Denver, from New York and I've stayed. so when I think about.
My legal background, which is more negotiation, mediation, arbitration. And back in the day, that was really an up-and-coming industry of alternatives to the courthouse. So, I moved to salt lake to open up a salt lake city office. I was the youngest regional vice president in the country, and I became more of a spokesperson for the cause.
And not doing settlement conferences and, pre-hearing conferences. And so I had a friend that was an HR person that put me through a battery of tests and what came up for my next next was finance. I love it and financial planning. So I moved back to Denver and I thought, oh my goodness, this is such an easy peasy career for me in three to five years, I'm gonna knock it out of the park, you know, be successful, do great things.
Cuz remember I was at regional vice president by the time I was 30 and then I was like, okay, five to seven. No, no, no. Oh seven to 10 years. I will figure out this journey. Candidly. It took me really that long. it took me that long. And what happened is one day when you get a financial statement, your, your investment account on the back, back then was eight pages.
But, but two, two to a page of very tiny, tiny, tiny print of disclosures. And I finally read it. A legal background, I should read this stuff and I finally read it and I'll never forget the emotion I had upon reading it. I, all of a sudden realized that I was not a fiduciary that put clients' interest first at all times, and worked for the client, that I actually worked for the brokerage firm I was with.
I'll never forget that cause as much as you wanna do your best work, you're doing your best work, but you're in the confines of working for the brokerage firm. Like the products that are available to you, the incentives that they give you. And it wasn't until that time that I recognized and then realized I, I have to leave.
I am completely out of alignment with who I am as a woman, as a person. And that's when I created wealth legacy institute. And that was easily 15 years ago. So the industry on average is about 25% women. It's a hard field historically because of how it was structured. I basically, the environment is sales.
Historically. So unless you're with a independent registered investment advisory firm, RIA firm, that's the only type of firm that always puts your interest first at all times, just like a CPA. And that's what wealth legacy Institute is. And so I've been in alignment ever since, always a fiduciary and creating the firm that actually has the clients first, not last, if you look at, if you kind of think of how that works and then it's much more joy every day, you love what you're doing, cuz you're completely in alignment and helping people really maximize their potentials in their dreams.
I love what I do. That is, that is so interesting. I think, cuz I don't think that many people realize the difference and, and in fact, I, I was enlightened in that as well because my husband and I have been working with a fiduciary, which he has explained to me about just exactly what you did. He says, yeah, he went through the same thing is that he was working for another company and, and, or working for a brokerage firm or something.
And, and it's like, you know, it's, they incentivize you to offer products and, you know, and stocks or mutual funds, but it's really to benefit the company, not necessarily the client. And now being able to be an independent or to be that fiduciary it's like, it really is focusing in on the client. So I love that.
That's what you're doing because I, I think people don't, don't realize it and then they get really bogged down. And I think in particular women, especially because this was something we were talking about is that, you know, so many women traditionally or, or I think the majority of women are really the spenders in, in.
In the family, I mean, women in general consumers, because that's, you know, advertisers are always trying to appeal to women because we're the ones controlling it. And yet at the same time, women don't necessarily understand about investing and finance. So, I’m trying to think. What, why do you think that is?
I mean, I have an idea. I, I, I sort of know the answer to this, but why do you think women are, are not as financially savvy, I guess we could say, I think all of your listeners are saying that out loud, what you think the answer is to that because we all know what it is. it's really been inaccessible to us in terms of the languaging of the profession.
There's nothing about investing and trading that really excites me, even though that's what I do, but I don't do it and lead with that at all, because there's not, there's no amount of rate to return that can create an extraordinary life. And so for women, I think historically, yes, women manage the budget, the cash flow of the household in the family.
And oftentimes it's no time, no energy, I'm spent, I'm surviving. But if you could bring that in with financial planning, take the money piece, the investment piece, bridge that with financial planning, all of a sudden the dialogue becomes much more enriching. It's more accessible for them. Oh, oh. Like, how do I take care of my family?
Oh, oh, goal achievement. So I have choices and know where I stand that it's not about which investments over here. It's really about what's the future of my family. And my spouse. And when can we step off? Because we were just in the grind, saving, saving, saving, saving for retirement and not necessarily even tak

Namaste, and welcome to another addition of live love, engage. And I am delighted to welcome a guest with us who is coming to us from Minnesota, and I wanna welcome Marin Laukka to live love engage.
Thank you so much for having me very excited to be here. well, I am really deci I was gonna start reading what your bio was. And I was like, I’m really excited. But if, if you caught that, if you were listening, you, you may understand what I was starting to say. So she is a decision coach and speaker with a master's degree in positive developmental psychology and certifications in life coaching and yoga.
And as the business owner of Yes&. She passionately supports women to clarify what they want in life and strengthen self trust so they can make more confident, expansive decisions. And she's also the number one new release author of ready enough, your seven-step guide for life's hardest decisions.
And see, I was gonna say. I'm really decided to instead of excited, cause I was putting it together. but I, that leads me to my first question for you is I would love to know what made you decide to be a decision coach? How did that, how did that come about? Yes. Hopefully this provides assurance for anyone out there who feels undecided or like they have not decided about some aspects of.
Of life, be it a niche or, a career path or a relationship or where they're living. It took a while. And I have come to accept that this will always be a process and granted decision coach, and now I've written a book on it and I host speaking events. So it feels pretty set at this point. But it was definitely a windy path.
So for a long time, I actually called myself a alignment coach, because really what the crux of this decision making is for the clients who see me is they want to make decisions that are aligned with their authentic truth, with their authentic self. And so it started off as alignment coach, but that is very vague.
And someone coming into that has no idea what that means. What are we aligning with? Why are we aligning? What does that look like? And so when I really tuned in and, and took a pause and thought, what am I really helping clients do? And what am I really passionate about? It's helping people to make
More authentic decisions and those decisions can be career changes or, I have a lot of people because this is part of my story, deciding whether or not to come, go into or leave or stay in, graduate school. So that part of career as well, the educational pathways, or it can be something like, do I, you know, decide to
Shovel my own yard or hire someone else to do that. We were talking about shoveling before we hit record. So it doesn't necessarily have to be these huge decisions. In fact, I'm a huge proponent that how we do anything is how we do everything. So whether we're talking about spaghetti or we're talking about your career path for 40 years, It really comes down to some of the very similar roadblocks and desires and values and preferences, preferences that everyone has at their core.
And that's what I help. And I'm passionate to bring out in people and encourage and support them to follow those truths that we uncover. I love that. Why is it that people have so much trouble deciding? Great question. Great question. And I can ask myself the same thing. the same thing too. and yes, what I've and again, maybe this is my, you know, biased pool of who is really attracted to my work, but with my clients, what I see
For the most part is we're so infiltrated with information in this day and age that there's always advice. There's always another opinion. There's always an expert who knows more than us. At least perceived knows more than us and in most of our educational upbringings and how, what life has taught us, we were taught that.
We should always look to someone else for advice and for feedback and for guidance. So, like I said, education, we were told the teacher has the answer and then our professor and then our boss has the answer and that's who we turn to. But even if we think of developmentally, so my background is in developmental psychology.
When we're children, we have to look to others. We have to look to our parents because we don't know certain things yet. And I, I find that we never have this full on shift or it's, it's rare to have a full on shift from, okay, I am not a child anymore. I'm not in this bubble where I have to ask the advice of my professor, cuz they're the ones giving me this grade.
Instead I am living my own life. I've created, I've gotten to this point and now it's fully 100% up to me. And that doesn't mean I stop looking for advice or, or research or data, but it means that once we look at that advice, research, data, opinions, we filter it back through our own opinions, values, desires, goals, our own authentic lens is what I call it.
So, I think it's, it's just our upbringing and it's also developmentally how we form as humans. And there's not a really natural shift point for us to have that realization of, oh, I don't, I don't have to seek out anymore. I can actually go in. Yeah. You know, I've, I've been working with a client who's been going through the same thing in that she is always, you know, listening to other people and, and, and getting advice.
And she, you know, and she'll go to videos and she reads books and things, and, and I'm working with her really to start, to help her to start trusting her own intuition. And, and because I think that's it, that's it, we don't put enough value on that and on our own innate knowing. So is that something that you, you know, when you're working with clients kind of help them to do, to help them see that
Really a lot of the times they actually have the answers either they have the answers themselves, or they can trust that once they gathered enough information, they have enough information to make a decision. Yes. Yeah. Yes. So when you first started talking about like innate knowing in that, intuition, I, I personally love that stuff and I, I follow Abraham Hicks and I follow a lot of, a lot of that work and also recognize that some clients who come into this work are not at a place yet where that feels safe to make decisions.
Right. So I'm really glad you added on that other perspective too. Or they realize they have enough information to make an informed enough decision. That's why my book is called ready enough. You're ready enough to make that decision. And, I think that's another point of us having so much information at our fingertips.
There's always going to be more information you can gather. So it's not about have you gathered all of the information it’s have you gathered enough of the information and for some of us that looks very logical, very analytical, very like data research oriented. And for some of us that looks very much like intuition and just
Meditating and tuning into what our heart is telling us. For my clients and, and my stance has this good blend between the research side and the intuition. So finding that middle ground where we can use both. Yeah. I like that. And, and,...

You're listening to the live love engage podcast on today's show how to gain confidence to leave a nine to five job to live life on your terms. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the love method and author of the number one, Amazon Best seller live love, engage - how to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself. In this podcast we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully love, deeply and engage authentically so you can create a life and business with more impact, influence, and income. Welcome to live love, engage
Namaste and, and welcome, welcome again to another episode of live love, engage, and I am delighted to welcome Rachel Smets to the show who is coming to us all the way from Portugal. So we're gonna talk about that in a minute, a little bit more about that, how you ended up there, but first off, I just wanna welcome you to the show, Rachel.
Thank you. Thank you for having me Gloria. It's a pleasure. Yeah. Well, I'm really excited. I've been reading up on all about you and I wanna share with our audience, those of you listening and those of you watching and YouTube, just who this lovely lady is. She's a clarity coach. Two-time TEDx speaker, not just once, but twice.
I loved that, YouTuber, author, and online course creator. And what she does is help unfulfilled mid-career corporates confidently plan their nine to five escape and turn their passion into income so they can have more freedom and live life on their terms. And as she says, something I agree with, life is short - start living, and that is right in alignment with this podcast, cuz it's all about living fully.
That's where part of that, the live love engage comes from. So I, I thought let's, let's talk a little bit about how you ended up in Portugal, cuz I know, I think that's part of your overall story on how you became, you know, this, this clarity coach, but so yeah.
What brought you to Portugal? Why are you there? Yeah, thank you. and great question. Just to be clear, this is not my end destination. This is me traveling, the world. So this is just where I'm at right now during this recording. So how I ended up, traveling full time. Let's put it that way is because I quit my corporate job a few years ago and, I wanted to become a digital nomad, basically.
I just wanted to be location independent so that I could work from where I wanted, because I never have a specific destination in mind. but I just wanted to be free of a boss and be my own boss and have the possibility to work when I want, where I want, how much I want really. And. Really not having to ask for permission for a day off and, and being able to, yeah, just freedom.
Freedom is really my biggest value. And obviously it's something I talk about a lot because it doesn't happen overnight and it's not just luck because people see me travel now and Ooh, these beautiful locations everywhere I post. And, oh, you're so lucky, Rachel. And I'm like, no, it's not luck. It's not luck.
It's something that I have created. And even, you know, and even, past 40, you know, I just, I just didn't wanna be in a job anymore. And we can definitely talk about that, that, that journey, but really it is not luck and it takes effort. And, and it's, if I can do it really with no technical skills or background or any of that, if I can do it, then, then really you can do it too.
So yeah, that's very encouraging and, and it. It's something my daughter is doing as well. She's, she's a web designer and she decided that she wanted to be able to travel the world. And she, as long as she's got internet connection, she can do that. Exactly. Yeah. So exactly. How, how do you, and again, we'll kind of get back a little bit to your journey in a moment, but I wanted to talk about how did you…
I guess number one, gain the confidence to be able to do this, because I know for a lot of people, it's like the thought of, you know, uprooting themselves and, and just traveling around. Yes, it sounds nice in theory, but then when you try to put it into practice it’s like, whoa, I don't know. I'm not sure, especially yes.
For women. yes. You know, so what would you, it's a say that's question it's yes. It's a great question. And you said it exactly like I'm a woman alone, and I'm traveling the world. So. Are there, you know, moments that I'm in fear? Yes. Is it challenging? Yes, absolutely. Did I have the confidence from the start?
No, not at all. and to be bluntly honest years ago, I, I mean, for the longest time, until in my adult told I, I had no confidence, I can honestly say I'm a, I'm a full. Full introvert and no confidence. And so I was always like, what are people gonna say? And, and how am I dressed? And Ooh, and somebody's looking at me and they're smiling and oh my God, they're, they're making fun of me.
And, and I'm not looking good and my day was destroyed. and so I was a big people pleaser. I was a perfectionist. I was, you know, no confidence. So I know exactly what you're talking about. So how did you… whoops! I’m not seeing you all of a sudden here. Where did you go? We’ve lost your video. Ok. I’m just going to pause this for a second.
And we’re back. We had a little hiccup with internet. But everything is working again. So go ahead Rachel, you were saying..
Ok. I’m going to back up about the confidence. I had zero confidence. I had. I became passionate about studying confidence. And so my first book that I wrote, was about confidence, awaken your confidence.
And I interviewed a whole series of people with that are very successful and success is of course the definition that, you know, it could be money. It could be a big public speaker. It was a bestselling author. It was like very different backgrounds because success is really a personal definition. But what I found. And what, what, what I found fascinating is that all of them said, but Rachel, I wasn't born with confidence. I had to learn confidence when I'm standing on the stage. I have, I have fears. I have anxiety. I have, you know, my heart palpitations.
And so I, I, I was like, wow, these people are like, you know, on TV and stages. And they look so successful and so confident, but yet they were not born with it and they had to learn it. So I really became fascinated. Like, wait, you know, I can learn it just like going to the gym. It's a muscle that you don't go into the gym once and come out full of confidence and skilled and tone.
No, you have to go back and back and back. And so. What you have to do to learn and grow that confidence is really taking these small steps out of your comfort zone. And, and when I say fear, it could be tiny fears, like, Ooh, talk to a stranger. And, and or if you want to speak in public the other day, somebody was asking me, but you know, your TEDx talk, did you feel confident?
