You're listening to the lived love engage podcast on today's show the importance of being intentional when it comes to completing projects, tasks, or managing relationships. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the love method and author of the number one, Amazon Best seller live. Love. Engage. how to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself.
In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully love, deeply and engage authentically. So you can create a life and business with more. Influence and income. Welcome to live love engage.
Namaste and welcome to another addition of live love. Engage. One of my favorite Types of episodes is when I get to interview people. And I have a lovely guest on the program who, I know her through a, a networking group that we both belong to, the women's prosperity network, and I am delighted to welcome this lovely woman to live love engage today. Her name is Carol Pilkington.
So welcome to the show, Carol. Thank you so much. It's a pleasure to be here, Gloria. I appreciate you and the opportunity. Wow. Yeah, I'm intrigued. When, when you, how the, the process goes for getting on the show. For those of you who may wonder, I ha I have a form to fill out and, and a topic that Carol put down there really intrigued me.
So, but we're gonna get to that in a minute, but first I need to explain to you, those of you who were listening and those of you watching on YouTube, just who Carol is. So she is a spiritual teacher and minister with over 30 years of metaphysical practice and training experience. And she takes her students on a path to a deeper understanding and self-awareness of who they really are, regardless of one's faith, religion, or spiritual background, and helps them discover answers through a combination of contemplation and inquiry and allows them to live life on their own terms as their own authority.
And that fits in with our theme of our show because yeah, I'm all about helping people to live fully. That's where the live in live love engage comes from. So I, I love that you're doing that. And I like to start the show usually by asking our guests a little bit about their journey. So how did you get to where you are today?
What, what, prompted you to become interested in, I guess, in, in metaphysics and spirituality and to become a minister of all things as well. You know, I, I think it's something that I came into the world as, you know, I had a, I felt like I had a calling from a very young age. I had a, an experience when I was around eight or nine, maybe 10 about having or being more than just this body and this personality called Carol.
And that I was connected to something bigger than what we know in the physical realm and that the physical and the non-physical are interconnected. They're netted. and they are not really separate. I felt deeply, I had a, an experience of that at a very core level that I was part of the, a larger, whole, if you will.
Because I, I feel and have experience that there are wholes within wholes and we as individuals are whole. Unto ourselves and that we are each whole, a whole. H… I'm W H O L E. Yeah. I was gonna say, yeah, we should probably make sure that people are thinking, wait a minute, I don't wanna be thinking of myself as like a hole on the ground.
Right? So thank you for clarifying. Absolutely. I, I had that intuitive message coming through that. I needed to clarify which hole I meant. English language. Oh, I tell you I know our language is very functional, you know, and we have to be sometimes very precise, but also be metaphorical as well.
So it's, it's a kind of, creative process to be able to communicate with one another so that we understand one another and that we're received the way we want to be received, right? Yes. Yes. So that's been my part of my journey. So, you know, life took over, I went the usual corporate route and I was not especially happy because I felt that there was something deeper within me that I needed to.
Be able to express, but still didn't know how to. And so I was in the corporate world for 30 years and by the time I was ready to leave, I went on my own deeper journey of discovering who I am and raising my own consciousness. To a place where I felt that I needed to give back what I had learned and experienced.
And so that's what led me to where I am today. I started out doing, astrology. I'm still an astrology transpersonal astrologer. And what that means is that I come from, a human level. That using astrology helps one to discover that they are more than just the body, that they are more than just, you know, here to, exist, simply exist, but there's more to us than that.
I like that. Yeah. And then it took me off until all these other realms of spirituality and helping people on their own transformational… So what prompted you to become a minister? It, it was something that I felt at the time was important for people to understand that spirituality was not just, a cornerstone of religion, of organized religion.
And so I wanted to be able to offer people a way to tap into their spirituality. That didn't necessarily just resonate with the organized religion of spirituality, but that there was more to spirituality than, than that. If that's something that did not speak to them. Right. And so. I did minister to my, to my calling because I wanted to let people know that there were all kinds of ministerings out there.
Gotcha. Gotcha. When you, you talk a about spirituality and, and, and religion, what do you feel is the maybe biggest… I don't know if I wanna say necessarily biggest difference, but, but how, how are they, how are they, how are they different? Let's just say that. Or, or, or are they, yeah, let's just go there.
Well, it's interesting because I, I actually had a conversation with, someone from a nondenominational church or actually, no, it wasn't, it was a Christian Church and it kind of put him back on his heels when I described my sense of Christian of spirituality. And I said, spirituality is, is the nature of who we are.
And we are here to discover or rediscover if you will what and who we are as spiritual beings, spiritual entities, because that ours, our, that is our foundation for being in this human form. To my experience it's about being here to learn lessons and discover our true nature, which is love. And at the core of every esoteric teaching, whether it's from esoteric Christianity or any other religion, the core of our, of its teachings or disciplines is that we are love.
And that there are other ways to access that and that understanding and that knowing that isn't from necessarily a religious place. Right. and when I said that to him, he was taken aback because he, because tr quite honestly, he recognized the arrogance. That he was carrying around being a religious entity and feeling like the religious community or structure.
Had the cornerstone on spirituality and it was a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful conversation. And we are really, we have such wonderful conversations to this day sometimes, and he's very loving, very giving, and I was able to be that honest with him about it, and he really appreciated it. That's awesome. I love that.
It's yeah, it. It's it's interesting. I, for me, I, I think religion comes down to structure, I suppose, and, and there's, you know, different ways to study or different ways to learn and different ways to behave in a, in a sense. And whereas as you say, spirituality is more really about how are we showing up?
How are we being? And, and to be able to get to know that true nature, cuz yeah, as you say, I agree with you....

Namaste, and welcome back to another addition of live love. Engage. Actually, if you're just catching us for the first time, welcome, I'm really glad that you're here as well. because. I love doing this podcast. And I love talking to amazing people like our guest, who is on the show today, and she is a, a fellow copywriter, but much more than that. And I'm gonna tell you about all the wonderful things that she's up to in the world in a second.
But first I want to welcome Hanna. Oh, and I forgot to ask you how to pronounce your last name. It looks easy, but I'm just gonna take a stab at it. Hermanson. Is that it? Yeah. OK. Rolls right off your tongue. Perfect. okay, good. You never can tell. Cause sometimes things look, look easy and then they're like, no, it's actually, you gotta pronounce it this way.
So I, I, I usually do that before I start recording, but oh, well thank you for going with it. So lemme tell everyone out there who's either you're watching on YouTube or you're listening to this on your favorite podcast platform just who Hannah is. As I said, she is a copywriter, but she's more than that.
She's a powerful catalyst for coaches who are ready to get back into their zone of genius. Her motto is dream life is real life, which I love, and she helps, has helped already hundreds of coaches step into their wildest life and business dreams. And she's the CEO of Done for You Copywriting and she and her team work intimately with coaches to provide ongoing marketing content.
And as a business consultant, Hannah also helps her clients leverage the right people, processes, and packages to make their dream life and business real. And I, I love what you do. I love the fact that you take the, some of the heavy lifting off of coaches when it comes to marketing.
And, I know how important that is, cuz I'm actually transitioning into the coaching space and, and would, would love to let go of some of that. But, well, we'll talk a little bit more about that. And then first I always like to start off with asking our guests how you got to this, place, you know, how, how, what led you… What's your journey to, to become this, you know, not only a copywriter, but also I guess, a coach or, or a mentor even possibly for, for other coaches?
Yeah. I was not the second grader that was like, when I grow up, I'm gonna have my own business or I'm gonna be a writer. Like I had no idea that this path really even existed. And to be honest, Gloria, I'm still making it up every day as it goes. Right. But I did grow up in small town, Wisconsin, and I did all of the right things on the sort of, you know, straight and narrow, never getting in trouble, always doing the right thing, getting good grades, going to college, you know, being top of my class.
And then after college, I was like, but what do you do if you're not in school? So I decided to work for my college and I became an academic advisor just because that's what I knew. I loved my advisor. I loved how she helped me set goals and achieve things. And that path opened up for me. And I found myself in a really cute cubicle with a 401k and a Toyota Corolla, and I had made it right.
But after a few months of that, I started looking around at my coworkers and thought, I cannot do this for 30 years. Like, there's gotta be more than this, you know, nine to five for me. And really what I was doing in my cubicle was talking to young people about what do you wanna be when you grow up? And they would tell me all their dreams and all their ideas.
And I would say, Great. And I would slide a piece of paper across my desk and say, you can choose from one of these 40 options. Would you like biology or philosophy to get to that, you know, big vision you have for yourself? So I needed an outlet and I found yoga and I even like started playing hooky from my day job.
I like said that I was like at an off-campus meeting, which was yoga. But I kept going regularly enough to start thinking, okay, everyone here is not doing what I'm doing, like skipping their day job. And so I started talking to people in yoga, like, why are you here at 10:00 AM on a Wednesday? How can you be doing this?
I'm curious. And some of them were in grad school, but others of them had their own business. And were entrepreneurs or were yoga teachers themselves. And so when that path opened up, I leaned into it. I became a certified yoga teacher and then that network continued to grow and I was actually offered a position to work for a yoga startup that wouldn't have me in a cubicle that actually moved me from small town, Wisconsin to San Francisco, like.
The dream sunshine state. Right? And so I went for it and I took this role with a yoga startup. And about two weeks after I moved across country sold everything, they let me go. And I was in my apartment in San Francisco, which if you know San Francisco, it's very expensive. These are not nice apartments. I had my five little red rubbermade moving bins, still unpacked.
And I was like, Well, I'm not going back. I've had this taste of entrepreneurship. I've had this taste of freedom. I'm a yoga teacher. And so I started the like hustle it was just kind of do or die. And I was young and scrappy and naive enough to figure out how to become a certified life coach and then start getting clients.
And so that's how my entrepreneurial journey started. And like I said, since then, it's been waking up every day and figuring it out. And so being in the coaching industry for now almost six years, I've rode a lot of waves. And what happened in 2020 was really interesting. And everyone having to go online and I realized that I wanted, first of all, there were lots of business coaches at that point.
Everyone wanted to tell you how to do everything. It was getting really noisy. And I wanted to help those coaches who were certified, who were established. Who have been doing this for more than, you know, since March, 2020, get their message out there and help them get good clients. And so over the last two years, I've pivoted from coaching coaches, how to start their businesses and get clients like I did to now doing it for them and doing done for you copywriting and marketing for those established coaches.
I believe when we all, you know, have a coach the world is a better place. And, and that's the, the mission I'm on right now. That's awesome. Yeah. There's so many wonderful lessons that you, you distilled in. Just, you know, a couple of minutes of talking there, which I think is so important for anyone listening, you know, this podcast is about how to live fully, love deeply and engage authentically and you’re really a good microcosm of that because you you've have leaned into figuring out, okay.
Yeah. I don't see myself being in a cubicle for 30 years doing this. This is not what I want. And, and you are willing to take risks. And that is an entrepreneurial thing, even though, you know, you say you didn't grow up with any aspiration of that. And I can, and I can tell you, I was the same way, although, you know, I did sell Girl scout cookies and I did, uh, sell shampoo door to door when I was in high school.
Amazingly enough. Yeah. To, to raise money for band, uh, for a band trip, it was like, Shampoo really? but I did....

You're listening to the live love engage podcast on today's show. Learn how you can use daily emails to turn your email list into a cash register. Stay tuned. In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully love, deeply and engage authentically. So you can create a life and business with more. Correct influence and income. Welcome to live love, engage
Namaste and welcome to another edition of live love, engage. And I am really excited about today because I've got a gentleman here who is, who I've been following for several years. I've invested in one of his courses. And we'll talk about that in a moment, but first off I want to welcome. well, wait, I'm almost messing up your name, Marc Mawhinney to live love engage.
Hi, thanks for having me Gloria. And it's a weird name, so it's not exactly Miller or Morrison or something like that, but you're close enough Mawhinney, I’ve heard macwhiney, Mahoney. You’re close.
I knew it. I think I was just trying, I was just stumbling over doing the mah for some reason twice. I don't know why. Oh, well anyway, well, let me tell everyone out there. Who's listening. And if you're watching this on YouTube, just who Mr. Mawhinney is. he's a lifelong entrepreneur who helps coaches get More clients without paid advertising. And he achieves this with his coaching programs.
he has his own podcast called natural born coaches. It's got a facebook group called the coaching jungle and his exclusive hard copy newsletter called secret coach club. He's also been a speaker at events like social media marketing world. Frequently makes media appearances and contributes to entrepreneur.com.
As I mentioned just a second ago, how I came into your sphere was when you were, doing some trainings on how to grow your Facebook group, without paid advertising. And, it was a really good course. And I was just curious, I wanted to start off asking you a little bit about. whether you still think Facebook groups are actually viable, because I noticed that recently I'm getting invited to join groups that are on other platforms.
Like mighty networks was, was one. I just actually realized that that's what I got into. So what's your, what's your opinion about. Yeah. I mean, there is some talk out there that's been probably going on for a few years. Now that Facebook groups are on the way out and, you know, to get off there and go somewhere else, like mighty networks, a different communities, if anything, Facebook Mark Zuckerberg signaled that he's going to be putting more into groups.
the one thing I will in the interest of. Totally open, full disclosure, being an email guy, one of the things that I appreciated appreciated about emails that I own that list, and it can't get taken away from me. And of course, with Facebook groups or a lot of other social media, you know, you could get.
The platform like that. And then, oh, geez. What, what am I going to do? So while I'm a big fan of Facebook groups, I certainly don't advocate only doing the Facebook group. I mean, at the end of the day, I think everyone should have an email list because there's definitely control there. You're not building something on rented land.
Like you are on some of these other platforms. just yesterday, a friend of mine, Facebook friend of mine has a YouTube channel and he built it up to thousands of people and he got it removed just like that over something wasn't even terribly controversial, by the way, it was something that was pretty, wasn't exactly.
Joe Rogan stuff, you know, people, a pedestrian and, his YouTube channel’s gone in an instant. So it can happen. Well, yeah, I, you know, it is, it is a little crazy. And I know that when I've done presentations in the past with small business owners, I've always emphasized the fact that you want to drive people to your website.
That's where you want people to go. And as you say, you know, then you can engage with them through email. People always say that email is dead, but it's still. You know, absolutely a powerful way to number one, to stay in communication with people who are either clients or prospects, but also people who.
Well, it gives you an opportunity to be able to market to them. And, and that's really what I know. One of the things I wanted to focus on today is that you send out emails every day. And I know a lot of small business owners are like, ah, you know, how often do I have to send an email? You know, it's once a week.
Is that okay? But you're doing them every day. So, can you share a little bit about what your theory is behind that and, and how, how that benefits other small business owners, if they were to model that strategy? For the record, anyone who's thinking it's crazy. Yeah, I had those same thoughts before I started doing it back in 2016 is when I began doing daily emails.
So you're not alone. I thought it was nuts. So I thought everyone would unsubscribe. They would hate me. They would send death threats and it would be awful. I’m not, one of the people who you see a lot of gurus who are, I've talked about the nurturing sequence, for example, that, you send an email 50 of them, before you even mentioned that you're in business, you know, which I think is kind of silly, you know, people are on your list because they want help with something.
Don't be afraid to sell to them. but also, I just don't think it's frequent enough if you do it like everyone else where you email maybe once a week, maybe it's every two weeks. some people I've heard of once a month, Okay. People are so, have distractions hitting them and voices from all over the place. Is that going to get the desired effect?
Probably not. You know, when you're in their inbox every single day, you have a much greater chance of breaking through and having them get to know, like, and trust you, which you should be shooting for In business. So you have to take the approach, not being too sensitive, that you're are going to lose a lot of people at the beginning.
Probably not everyone though, but anyone that you lose with your daily practice, probably weren't going to buy anyways. And it's better just to lose them. I would much rather have a smaller, tighter list that you have a better relationship with because you're emailing them daily, building that relationship instead of a larger list that you're only talking to sporadically because you're afraid of it.
It's kind of like dogs or certain animals can sense fear. My theory is email subscribers can sense fear, from the person who's sending the emails. I do believe they can pick up on that energy. So I don't know if you've seen this Gloria, but I've seen this before, when I'm on a list. The person will, maybe hasn't emailed the list in like six months or a year.
And they send a very apologetic email, like, oh my God, I'm so sorry. I haven't emailed. I should have been doing better. And they're beating themselves up. Like they killed the person's dog or cheated on them with their spouse or something. And it's like, yeah, you can just send the email, say, Hey, you haven't heard from me much, but you're going to hear from me a lot more frequently going forward.
Then you move on. You don't have to fall all over yourself and apologizing and crying about it. Like that's fearing your list and it's a little too much. So there my rants over. Well, I appreciate that. And I think I have done that cause I, every so often I I've I've wound up something has happened that I've, and I've neglected my list, even though I preach to the choir and telling, you know, like I said, my clients, you don't do this more often and I have done it, but I think,...

You're listening to the live love engage podcast on today's show, we'll be talking about women money and becoming your family’s CEO. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the L.O.V.E. method and author of the number one, Amazon Best seller live love, engage - how to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself in this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully love, deeply and engage authentically so you can create a life and business with more impact, influence, and income. Welcome to live. Love. Engage.
Namaste and welcome. Welcome. I am so glad to be with you for another edition of live love, engage, and I am delighted to welcome Mary Oves to the show.
And I'm going to tell you all about her in just a second, but I just want to just, you know, say, Hey, glad to have you here, Mary. Thanks. I'm so happy to be. Well, I'm really curious to hear what you have to say, about the subject we're going to be talking about. So, which has to do with, well, finances.
We'll, we'll, we'll start with that, but let me tell you a little bit about who Mary is and why I wanted to have her on the show. she is a college. The English professor I can speak today, a freelance journalist of thirty-five years, and she's also been a widow since 2017. And when her husband died, Mary said about making a new life for herself and has spent the past four years regaling readers of her lifestyle blog about online dating, single travel.
Dressing for your widowed fifties and menopausal hot flashes among other things. And with her unique brand of humor, she has bridged the gap between the grief of widowhood and the joys of reinvention. And I also forgot to mention that she's also a mom. She has three, I guess mostly grown sons, I think.
but I wanted to start off today talking about, as I mentioned, finances, so. most married couples., it seems like the husband is usually in charge of finances. I know in my case I pay the bills, but my husband kind of does the investing side of things. So I was wondering if that was the case for you and, you know, fan, how did you manage then having to now of course, take full responsibility after your husband passed when.
My husband was alive. He was a dialysis patient for his entire life. when he proposed to me, I remember he said to me that night, I'm not going to live to be an old man. So if you're going into this with me, you have to go into it, knowing that we've always known that. and you know, he died, you know, at 54 that's young, you know, when we're young, that doesn't sound.
When you're now we know it's very young, so he would try throughout our marriage to get me to participate. I was a full-time teacher raising three little kids, you know, I have this much energy and that much energy for anything other than work and kids. So I usually would just, you know, kind of blow him off and maybe tomorrow, and he's like, you're going to have to do.
Stuff and yeah, well maybe tomorrow and, well, this is where the insurance is and it almost got to a point where. It became, it became a point of dissension. It really started bothering him that I wasn't, participating more, in, in those activities. but again, as you know, our marriage went through, I became less and less interested.
So, you know, fast forward to 2017. And now here I am with a rental house insurance mortgage. Investments policies, tuition, student loans. You know, I was pretty much, you know, thrown into the, into the deep part of the ocean, you know, without a paddle. So my, my answer to you is it has been a very oftentimes scary, but mostly liberating, experience just.
The things. I mean, I'm when I'm reading, I'm reading about, you know, reading, finance books. I have, you know, I'm always having zoom meetings with my financial advisor and I'm always on the phone. It's a learning process. It's not something that comes naturally to me, I'm more of the nurturer, but you know, and my twins are 23.
They do their own thing now. And my other son's going to be 20, but I'll tell you. What I've learned that the person I am now as opposed to on October 22nd, 2013, 2017, I'm not sure he didn't propose to me now. I mean that me now it's just a completely different person. I don't mean that in a, you know, in a, in a disrespectful way, but I've learned so much over the last four years about money and investing.
And, I finally got a grip on. That's good. Well, that brings me to my next question is, you know, as you, as a special, you know, as, as a teacher, you know, when you're learning something, you sometimes can make mistakes. So what, could you share maybe, you know, one or one or two and maybe one of the big mistakes you may be made while you were trying to learn this and then, and then what you learned, you know, from.
Absolutely. I think I've made so many mistakes. I'm trying to figure out which one to share. Oh boy, how many mistakes I've made? I'll share one with you because it's hitting me right now. All right. And everything's working out, but when they, when they tell you to keep an emergency fund, all right. Of this amount of time, and I did, I had it.
I, it wasn't big enough. So now my son's tuition, my son is all almost as a full ride to his school, but my son's tuition was due last week and I didn't have it. I have it in a 401k. But now here's the kicker. As you know, now I have to take it. Luckily it doesn't affect his scholarships and you do not get, if you take it out, if you take money out of your 401k for tuition, you do not pay a penalty, but you still get taxed.
I never understood any of this tax. What 10%? What does that mean? I mean, why can't I use that 401k? It's mine now I get it because I was forced to get it. I had to call my financial advisor and go through that with him. And he says, if you put it back in 60 days, you know, you won't get that 10% tax on it.
I'll tell you when they, you know, for women or widows. I think mostly widows, but, when they tell you to keep that, you know, three months worth of, of an emergency fund, that's what that's for. That's the kind of thing that's for, because I had to take that, that kills me. I took that out of my 401k, but I have high hopes.
I can replace it in 60 days, but if I can't now I'm paying this tax. So that is one probably big mistake that I made. I never put two and two together. Now I'm paying $2,000 to use my own money. Right. Yep. Exactly. Oh, I could regale you with so many mistakes, but that's the most recent what I just made, but I'll tell ya.
I learned, and I will never make that mistake again. Never. Well, that's, that's good. A good lesson. And it, it is challenging trying to understand all of these things. So, what you, you talk about, one of the things you, you, you talk about is that, We're essentially becoming like, our own CEO, the CEO of our family.
So, how can women do that and really take a more active role in, in their finances? What, what, what would you, what would you recommend them to do? Well, I think there's two schools of thought. I think I'm, you know, on one hand, if you're single, that's. That's easier investing for yourself. You're doing this for yourself, but when we're talking about, and again, my sons are not little children.
I mean, they have their own portfolios, and their vest, they invest their own money. They're really good already. What, what I think right now I'm doing is trying to make them understand, which was a lesson. My late husband tried to teach me so many times. We really can't do that now. I never understood that, but I want this now, why can't I have this now?
Like I walk on that person, like, I want it now, why can't I have it now? He said, well, we can't do that now....

And I am delighted to have not one but two guests on the podcast today, we, I would love to welcome Claire and James Davis coming to us all the way from Spain.
well, we are glad to have you, and let me just tell our audience and, and those of you who are watching this on YouTube as well, who these lovely, this lovely couple is and why I have them on the show today. So, Claire and James Davis are the husband and wife team behind the multi-award winning coaching and fitness company called 38 degrees north.
They are also podcasters as well. They've got a successful midlife health podcast called the midlife mentors and their passion is helping folks in mid-life achieve not only the body, but the lifestyle they deserve and they, they've got a eight week program that they offer folks and they use a science-based approach, leveraging their backgrounds in psychology, coaching and NLP to empower individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to make positive changes in their lives.
And they've been on, featured in lots of publications and, and, regularly run workshops and all sorts of things. So, if you haven't heard of them by now, you're, you're hearing about them now. So I'm glad of that. And I, I know we're going to talk about specifically today about actually, how to deal with menopause for women and andropause for men.
But I thought we'd get started actually with talking a little bit about how the two of you, wound up actually in business together and, and have been doing this coaching and fitness stuff. So how did that all start? Wow. How long have you gone through,
let me tell you the short version. So, we both worked in a corporate careers in London doing, doing things. I'd, I'd start as a, as a lifestyle journalist and they get more involved in the content strategy side of businesses. Well, it's a big media organizations. Claire started her career in PR fashion. PR nothing is safe to say she didn't enjoy that.
Did not Enjoy that. We didn't know each other at that time. But in 2011, I left my career in London to move to a little island in the Mediterranean called Ibiza with the concept of running fitness holidays, Ibiza is famously known for its clubbing and its hedonistic lifestyle, which I experienced when I was younger, but it's also a very beautiful island and health and fitness has always been a part of my life.
So I wanted to basically bring people there and give them a great experience, educate and give them the tools to help transform and change their lives. While I was there, I was married, that marriage broke up., I met Claire over there independently of marriage breakup. I should hasten to add. Yes. We always need to add that.
And then, the curious thing was we found out that both of our marriages broke up, pretty much the same time. So Claire was back in England and I was in Ibiza. Then we had about a year of to-ing and fro-ing didn't we? I wasn’t very helpful.
tell everyone that. Because he didn't, he does still like to play, play the guilt card. Of course. Uh, and then we got together and having the back. I mean, she's my, she's my inspiration. She's really helped take us to the next level. And how we got to what we do now – the midlife was basically, you know, the background of doing the fitness holidays.
Obviously we're lucky to work with thousands of clients over that time. So you get to see similar kind of themes repeating to clear like certain age or. Oh, so I'm 49 right now. How old am I James. 41
Good. That you erred on the side of younger. Nice.
He does this every single time. I think being 49. Now it says clearly you’ve got some brain fog there. James, you want to talk about the mailman. And, we also love what we do. We started investigating more and more, you know, what's happening in mid life. Now what the hormonal changes. Cause also because we've been very conscious of like the physical changes going on here, both men and women, we were aware of these things happening.
But what's driving that. And the answer is a lot of it's driven by our hormones and that has a knock on effect that has mental and emotional effects as well as physical. And of course, when you put all those together, as they can be a whole lot of psychological effects as well. And we kind of got friends who are like, oh, we know, I think this age, this is just it.
Now it's inevitable decline. And I've just got to put up with like no energy and expanding waistline. I know, so we just dove into it even even harder, tested out loads of the science and research on ourselves, started podcasting about it. That was the first dip into the midlife mentors really was the podcast.
So that was at the beginning of 2019. And that was really exciting cause that's just James and I passionate putting stuff out there with no agenda. Going out there and having a bit of banter, but we will hear when already off, but obviously giving people a real holistic approach to midlife health and happiness.
So touching on all that you know, my, my backgrounds, I was never into fitness. Really at all. I had a really bad relationship with my body, really bad relationship with food growing up. And then I went through a divorce and the reason I got into doing this after my career in PR. It was because all I was put on antidepressants, and I'm not guessing they save lives.
They're really, really crucial to helping people get through some really challenging times. But what I've I've I felt like I didn't want to be on them for the rest of my life. I was very aware I didn't want to be on them for the rest of my life. And you know, my weight ballooned, I actually felt very disconnected from my spiritual self.
So I decided to find other ways that might help me reduce my aging come off. So I ended up getting into the nutrition, getting into the fitness, understanding the science. And once I was hurt, I was like, I've got to qualify in this and help other people really feel powerful in themselves and regain control when everything else is, is going out of control.
And he's crazy around you. One of the often the only thing that you can control is your health, whether it's, you know, in all areas, your fitness. Your nutrition, your spiritual health or mental health and gaining control back over that does start to help heal those, those things that are going on in your life.
So I wasn't into it. I then got into it and just after I met James and then moved over to Ibiza very quickly to join him. And yeah, that's how I moved over to ibiza. Before I left, I made a big bold move to, to live my life over in Ibiza. And you know, it wasn't without its challenges, but, you know, like James says we haven't looked back and, we're just really excited to do what we do because our values are so aligned with what we want to share with the world.
So. Awesome. What, what do you like best about actually in particular working with, you know, this age group, you know, the people in midlife. I think, yeah,...
