You're listening to the live love engage podcast on today's show. We'll hear one woman's story of hardship, abuse, miracles, and blessings. Stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the love method and author of the number one, Amazon best seller live love, engage how to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself.
In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully love, deeply and engage authentically. So you can create a life and business with more. Act influence and income. Welcome to live love, engage
Namaste and welcome to another addition of live love. Engage. I am delighted to be with you today and to have an amazing guest with us this morning.
Oh, if you want, I'm recording this and it's in the morning, but you know, you could be listening to this at whatever time of day, but anyway, I am so delighted to welcome Dr. Enoh to live love, engage. Thank you very much for having me. I appreciate it. Oh, well, I am delighted to have you. And, I met Dr. Enoh a few months back at a publicity summit and I was really impressed with this woman, especially.
Well, I'll tell you more in a minute, but let me just give you the, the, the highlights. And then I know she is going to be telling you a little bit more about her story, but she is, she is holds a PhD in, in nursing. She's a registered nurse midwife and also professor. And she has been Just an amazing woman in the fact that she also got her degree in nursing in Nigeria before she came to United States.
And she also has gone through a lot of different things in her life. Not all of them have been pleasant. And she actually shared those stories in a book that I was privileged to read. It's called “joy comes in the morning” and I highly recommend it. You need to get a copy of this book because I know you're gonna get a little taste of what Dr. Enoh has gone through in her life.
But, you gotta read the book to know more. So. I wanna just have you start, if you would in just telling people a little bit about let's just start with, why did you decide to write a book about, about your life, especially the early part in particular. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
My reason for writing my book. More So about the early part of my life is if I did not go through what I went through in my childhood, I wouldn't be who I, or where I am today. My core message to the world is please, please, please turn your tragedy into triumph. Do not turn your tragedy into liquor or drugs because that will make you spiral down the drain.
I turn my tragedy into my triumph and that is why I am here today, who I am today and what I'm doing today. And this is the rationale. The reason why I wrote the book is to share that I honestly wish. Everybody will turn their hardship, their tumult in their, whatever, into something triumphant so that they can look back like I do.
it, would've made such a big difference when I see amount of people that are drug addicts, that are alcoholics because of what they went through. It really saddens me. This is why I cannot shut my mouth. I wanna have this message out so that people can learn that irrespective for what you go through.
If you look carefully into it, something good can come out of it. Absolutely. Yeah. That's a great, it, it is sad that, and, and it's You know, who knows what, why some people do do that? I mean, I, my father was an alcoholic and I don't know what prompted him to go down that road. If I, you know, if I knew now be more aware of than I was when I was a kid, I would've, you know, loved to have asked him, you know, what, what kind of pain he had gone through in his life that, that he sought to escape from it in.
In alcohol, but, I, I think it is important if we can learn how to be able to overcome those things. And, and you, you share so many great messages and so many great stories in the book. Can you share with us what was one of the biggest challenges you had to overcome?
I was the last child out of six kids. My sibling was so much older than me that I have nephews and nieces that are way, way older than me. So I was raised as an only child. I remember the day my immediate older sister came home. She was like about 10, 12 years older than me. And I'm looking at her like, where did she come from?
And the best part of it, the first time I saw my own brother was him with a wife and a nine-month-old baby. And I stood at the corner thinking and they said, this is my brother. I was seven.
So, it just amazes me. And I was like, I can't wait to go back wherever my, this brother of mine came from to babysit this nine-month-old baby. That was how my, that was how my journey started. So my mom looked at me. She's like, if that's what you want, I knew it must have killed her. I was the only one at home with her to say, I'm leaving.
She said, if that's what you want, I will let you go. So that was how my journey started. And I left home with my brother after the end of his vacation. It took us four days a day in a lorry and three days in the train to get to where he was working. Oh, I was so excited. I was raised in a little dingy village.
We didn't have running water. We didn't have a roads for footpaths. There was no electricity when there was Moonlight. We were rejoicing. Oh my God, are you kidding me? And that was me. I had never seen a car at that point in my life. The day I left with my brother, it was like an eye open. I was so shocked to see what the city looks like.
In fact, at one point I asked my brother, I said, what are these things? And during the day given light, that is not even moon. Cause all I knew that can provide light for everybody was the moon. He said electricity, the poor guy, I had asking so many questions. The day we left home. So I left with him. We finally got to where he was and
It was awesome at the beginning, but then things turned, things changed. I didn't understand this was my sick. They said my brother. So I accepted that. I was like with family member, I wasn't treated as a family member by the wife. That was how it started. And she started abusing me. I didn't understand because my mother has never raised her voice at me.
I had no idea what that meant. And she started hitting me, denying me food. And before you know, it, it became a routine to the point that if I have one meal a day, I'm lucky. that young, I remember around noon at school, I would be so hungry. I couldn't even lift my up my head up in school and put it lying down on the bench.
Waiting for break to run into the school garden to grab nuts, whatever I can find and eat and drink. That was what would sustain me till like 6:00 PM. She expected me to run home in 10 to 15 minutes. And if I don't get home in 10 to 15 minutes, she'll hit me and Tell me to go and do my chores. I didn't even have the energy to walk.
How much more run. Right. She never understood that. So that continued. Three years into my living with my brother, he decided to go home on vacation. I was so beli. I was so happy that this is it. I would never come back. And then three days to the end of his vacation, my mom called me. The minute I got home I just threw my clothes off.
I showed my mom. I have bruises all over my body. I have scars. In fact, I have one right here on the right side of my forehead. I was just walking out of the door. There was nothing, she pulled me unexpectedly and I hit my forehead on the frame of the door and split it. And she said, I wish your head was split into two.
The blood is rushing out. I'm trying to control it. And she just was a joke to her. I'm like, so when my mom said to me, after that vacation. My mom said to me, you have to go back. I thought she was crazy....

    TRANSCRIPT
You're listening to the live love engage podcast. On today's show we're gonna be talking about some misconceptions when it comes to mental health and the challenges of running a startup. stay tuned. I am Gloria Grace Rand, founder of the love method and author of the number one, Amazon Best seller Live. Love. Engage. - how to stop doubting yourself and start being yourself. In this podcast, we share practical advice from a spiritual perspective on how to live fully. Love deeply and engage authentically so you can create a life and business with more impact, influence, and income. Welcome to live love, engage.
Namaste and welcome to another addition of live. Love, engage, and I am looking forward to our conversation today with Johnny Crowder, who was joining me from Just a couple hundred miles away. I think on the other side of the state where I live. So I wanna welcome you Johnny to live love engage first off. Yeah, thanks for having me. Well, I will, I'm gonna share with our audience today on YouTube and those of you listening on your favorite podcast platform. a little bit about this young man.
He is a 29-year-old suicide and abuse survivor, but also a TEDx speaker and the founder of cope notes, which is a text-based. Text based if I could speak today, mental health platform and armed with 10 years of treatment, psychology degree and a decade of pure support through NAMI, which I had to learn, look up because I had heard of it, but I wasn't sure what it stood for and stands for the National Alliance on mental illness.
Johnny's youthful vigor for mental health has impacted millions across the globe and I've been Following you for a little bit and, and your entrepreneurial journey. And, and I actually did test out the Cope notes for cuz I know you offer like a free, a free test drive as it were. Yeah. And I was, I was very impressed with it, so I thought, we we'd start off.
Well, actually one thing I wanted to share actually with our audience before I dive in. One thing again, when I was doing some research and, and actually trying to figure out what NAMI stood for. I found an interesting statistic in that one in five Americans live with a mental health condition, which was quite surprising now, of course, a serious thing.
It's more like. One in 20 Americans, but that's still a lot. And I know there's been a lot of talk of late, certainly with the pandemic and everything that mental health is really starting to be much more talked about. And I think it's getting to be not quite as taboo as it may have been 10, 20, 30 years ago, even.
So, I appreciate that you are doing something. This, you know, about helping people. So I thought we'd start off our discussion with just sharing a little bit about why you know, your story and, and also then what led you to, to found your company? Yeah, one thing I'll start with is, one statistic that a lot of people aren't talking about is the lifetime mental health statistic.
And actually one in two people will face mental illness in their lifetime. so the one in five just means right now, okay. Someone is dealing with that, but throughout their lifetime, literally every other person on the planet is gonna face something like this. So it's much more widespread than people understand now.
And I was one of those one in two. I was the one in two, and, and still am. So I grew up with a number of different diagnoses and I had no idea what I was going through. I didn't start treatment until maybe 10 years after my symptoms started, which is actually the average in America. It takes roughly 10 years between onset of symptoms and care.
So I'm kind of a walking statistic, I guess. But I, when I was in treatment, I got really curious about what was going on in my brain and I wanted to learn more. So I started taking psychology classes and then went to school for psychology and started working in peer support in public advocacy. So
Pretty much, my whole life has been about mental health, just, for the first quarter century. I wasn't deciding that it would be about mental health. It just kind of happened to me. And now I'm making a conscious choice, like, okay, my time and energy is gonna be dedicated to, improving my own mental health and that of other people.
Yeah. I, I appreciate you, you sharing that and it makes sense now that I think about it and I certainly have been touched by that in my own life, in my own family. my mom suffered with depression. I think my, my brother did, my dad was an alcoholic. So all sorts of lovely things going on and in my family.
And I, you know, for the most part have been fairly good and have also had my own sets of challenges. So it’s, it is a really. It's so important for people to know that. Well, actually, let me ask you, I have an idea, but what would you think is, is what, what would you say is the most important thing that people ought to know about
either mental health in part let's just say mental health? What, what, what do you think is the most important thing people should know about? That's kind of tough. I would say. Probably it it's either the one in two statistic. So like, it is extremely common. But the other thing that comes to mind is the fact that like, you can do something about it. For, for years and years
I figured like, well, this is just my brain and I'm stuck with it. And, If you start reading about neuroscience and, your brain's plasticity, its ability to form new neural pathways and learn new things. You start to recognize that like, well, yes, my brain may be wrestling with depression right now, but it doesn't always have to be that way.
There are things I can do to equip my brain. So just, I guess the first is that it's really common. The second is that you're not stuck. Love that that's exactly what I was thinking. So, but, but I wanted to give you a chance to say that. Yeah. yeah, that, you know, there's hope it's, you don't have to think that you're, you're stuck there and in this sort of, well, sad, but maybe frustrating also to know that, you know, that the average is like, it takes 10 years from, from like the time
Symptoms show up until, you know, you, you get help and, and I guess that's cuz sometimes you are struggling with, you know, well maybe this is just the way I am and, you know, or, or what have you. So what do you think has been, your biggest challenge that you've had, you know, in, in this journey of that you, you know, journey called life, let's just say that.
What do you think has been the biggest one you've had to overcome? I mean, definitely illness. Mm-hmm, like, that's huge, like my mental illness and also going through trauma therapy and stuff. Like a lot of that was really difficult, but I think maybe I'm not sure if this is gonna answer your question, but the angle that I'm gonna answer it from is like what kept me from making progress when facing those things.
And I would say probably me judging myself. For what I was going through, like a big reason why I didn't do trauma therapy for so long was because I was like, you know, I was abused and that makes me feel weak. And then I wanna talk with someone about my weakness and, you know, I really should have done something and maybe it was my fault.
And there was a lot of self-judgment that only served to postpone the inevitable, which was if I'm gonna get healthy, I actually need to participate in treatment. So aside from all the out external hurdles that I face, like all these terrible things happening to me, I think, I was letting a terrible thing happening happen to myself by standing in my own way and saying like, you know, if you were really tough, you wouldn't need therapy and you need to man up, you know, all of that kind of talk.

You're listening to the live love engage podcast. On today's show, how forgiveness and gratitude help you live your soul's purpose. Stay tuned. Namaste and welcome back to another edition of live. Love. engage. And I am delighted to have a guest with us on the show today who, for those of you who are listening, you won’t be able tell, but we're matching colors today. I love it. We're both in pink. she got the memo and I didn't even send it to her. So I want to welcome Alena Chapman first off to live love engage. So welcome Alena.
Hello, Gloria. I'm so glad I'm here and yes, I know. And even the same shade of pink. That's amazing. yeah, no, pretty, pretty cool. Pretty cool. Yeah, it is cool. Well, you know what? I, I think it's perfect because in, in reading through your bio, we're, we're very. Aligned in what I think, what we're up to in the world. And, and which is one of the reasons why I was delighted to have you on the show.
I’ve, I’ve been familiar with you for a while. Been in your been sort of circling you a bit. And now I have a chance to be able to, you know, talk with you. So I'm, I'm excited. I'm very excited to be able to speak with you. Yeah. Well, let me, it's nice to know. Oh, thank you. And let me share with our listeners and those of you who are watching as well on YouTube, just, who this lovely woman is.
She is referred to by many as a soul curator and Alena works her magic by wisely integrating the wisdom of various religions, spiritual modalities, and scientific research to bring clarity, ease, and flow along. Greater understanding to all, and she's on a quest to help people everywhere, heal and connect to their soul's purpose and experience abundance while on the journey.
And she works with clients around the world to help them to heal themselves so they can identify what they're really here to achieve in life from a space of compassion, non-judgment and love. And she's been, she's been on a guest on all sorts of different networks, the major networks and she's.
Cured on stages with amazing people like Les Brown and the late Bob Proctor. And she's also certified counselor in her own Right as well. So I am. I'm really delighted to have you here. Oh, not to mention the fact she's also a bestselling author, which she didn't mention in her bio, but I happen to know for a fact because again, this is one of the reasons why I, I connected with her.
We, I saw her at a, an event and she had written this book called, the prison effect, discover how you were blocking your own happiness and break free to abundance and joy in life. And it's a really, really good book. Got some really great, Insights and, and exercises to help you to break free of, you know, the things that are keeping you in your own prison.
And I know you've also got a new book that you've got out as well. I do, I have a book called hello soul. Oh. Which is written in a little bit of a different way. It’s you know, I've decided that people don't always enjoy being told what to do, you know? So I decided. This one is more talking about how I found my way back to living by my soul, but just like the prison effect and my other book, you can't escape from a prison if you don't know you're in one.
At the end of each chapter, of course, when I'm looking for it, I can't find it. I have isn't that the way? Yeah. I have a little skills for your own journey, so it's all, it's like the time to focus and I give you other ways that you can try for your own journey on, on starting to not only hear your soul, but start to be guided by it and live by it.
Which I think is the key to the ultimate hap, happiness, you know, and contentment and peace and, just really feeling good in this life and, and understanding from a higher perspective, everything that's going on, even in times like these. You know? Yep, absolutely. And, and I love that you're telling it from your perspective, cuz when I wrote my book, live, love, engage.
I intended it to be more of a “how to,” but as I started writing it, it turned out to be much more of a memoir that I had intended, but I also think it's better that way. And so I'm okay with it. So I think so too. I think people like to hear how you did it. Mm-hmm they like to, and they learn from you. I always say laugh when I, you know, cause there's definitely places to laugh and, and cry.
If you feel like you wanna cry, it, it it's a story. And a story is much more unassuming and accepted in your subconscious mind. You know, it stays there. And then it's easier for you to change those old beliefs with story than I, you must do kind of thing. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So I wondered if you could share with our viewers and, and listeners to a little bit about your story.
How did you come to, you know, be this soul curator and, and an author? What, what, tell us a little bit about your journey. Oh, gosh, shoot. We've gotta have a cup of coffee with this one. I, I actually, didn't know I was even going into this business. I just started out in the mindset business, which is those, those two books you just talked about.
And those just came about because I had been going through a really bad divorce and I, so I was doing things to create my own happiness, even be that's what caused it. Trying to be happy. And, the happier I got, the worse the marriage became. And so, once I was, you know, just trying to get through things and I would make, I would choose to do something fun every day, I would get up and say, okay, what sounds fun?
And whatever it was, I would do it because it spurs your, it gets your creativity and your imagination going. And one morning I woke up and said I wanted to journal and before I know it every morning, I drop the kids off and go to the coffee shop and journal. And before I know it, I had a very thick journal and I loved it so much.
And then be, and then I met that's when I met Bob Proctor and he said, you've got a book. And I said, I do? And he said, you do. And I, and I was whisked off stopped to meet somebody. And all of a sudden, I have you don't, you can't escape from a prison. If you don't know you're in one. And that led the mindset trail.
And I did that. I have always had, I have always been extremely spiritual in so many ways from the time I was very young, to the time, I mean really young, we're talking like three and, and I, I put my little cradle up on edge and I would talk to all my stuffed animals talking about all the wonderful things about God and the spirit, you know?
And, my mom didn't know what to do with me. So then when I, and I, and I learned to keep my mouth shut, cuz you know, my mom thought I was strange, you know, I wasn't getting along with we, I was raised Catholic. I wasn't getting along with the nuns and I just decided to just be quiet and it wasn't until I was doing a program out in New York called the inevitable you with, with Elizabeth Gilbert of Eat Pray Love.
She, she was telling them about this, her creative spirit, this little elf in the corner and, and how it would come. And she had to catch the ideas before it ran away. And I thought, oh, she's telling them about that. She's not telling them how she accesses that. And I was telling my friends over Italian dinner. I'm Italian.
So I love Italian food, even though it's not good for me, a pasta, but I love it anyway. We sit there and,...

Yay. I got it. Right. Yay. So glad that you are here and we having, yeah, Tatiana. We, we were talking a little bit about what we're gonna be talking about before we got on the air, but I'm gonna tell you a little bit about her because she's got a wonderful background and, and really is. Helping a lot of people and being able to be more successful in their business and their life.
So she is a trauma integrative hypnotherapist, intuitive and coach who helps purpose driven entrepreneurs and leaders overcome emotional wounds and trauma that show up as business blocks so that they can fully step into their purpose and impact. And, I’m actually, I'm gonna skip what else you put here, cuz I think I'm gonna let you share some of that, but she's also really developed a highly effective method that helps to release negative emotions and traumatic memories stored in the body.
You know, in our cells and neurons and all that good stuff. So I'm going to let her tell us a little bit more about how you got here, how, what your journey is because, I have a feeling, it was a pretty interesting one from just, just a little bit that I did not tell everyone about, but I know you're going to now.
Thank you for having me on the show, and usually I share my story from an angle of the journey that I walked through myself. In this, on this entrepreneurship journey through the blocks, and this is what I do for clients now. And it is the main three pillars and the main kind of groups of the blocks, which is visibility blocks.
And the fear of being visible and exposure. Confidence issues and imposter syndrome and all that good stuff, right. And money blocks. But I was getting ready for this episode with you today. And I was, uh, called to share something really different. And, I really loved a quote. and I'm not good at quote it exactly by Brene Brown about what trauma does.
One of the things that trauma does is it takes away our ability or willingness and again, I'm paraphrasing here, to be vulnerable. And so I wanted to dive in a little deeper on this topic with you today about vulnerability, boundaries, trust and how the trauma that we go through. And many people don't know what they have trauma, let's call it emotional wounding relationship wounding, right.
and how it affects our ability to be successful, to be leaders, to live love, engage. And, attract clients. And even we were talking a little bit earlier with our team main members, right? That ability to trust ability to be vulnerable and ability to engage fully with life. Yeah, absolutely. And, and I do think that's a really good subject to talk about.
So, but I would love it if you could just share a little bit about how, what even got you interested in being able to, you know, do this type of work, to be able to help people with these issues, to be able to help people with their, with trust and, and, and vulnerability to help people to be able to be.
Engage authentically as I like to say. So from the perspective of those three pillars that I mentioned, the confidence and the visibility and the money blocks, these were my biggest blocks when I started my business. I started my business because I had a huge transformation using hypnotherapy for my personal life and my health in particular, because one of the things that hypnosis does, it requires neuro pathways and not many people are aware, aware of it.
And. Actually most people look at hypnosis as suggestive hypnosis and more mind based. But since my journey started very differently from the body, I actually ended up being full circle. I am more body-based emotion based hypnotherapist. And I believe that when we work with the body and release the body memory and emotional memory and know that neuro circuitry and neurochemistry that is connected to trauma and emotional wounding…
This is when the mindset and all our actions in our business or personal lives, right. Change organically. So I had a huge transformation using hypnotherapy. I was mind blown because I've tried everything under the stars for four years to treat my neurological damage from a medical surgery. It was a medical injury I had.
And when I realized the power of this methodology and I had other transformation transformations as well, I wanted to share about it with everybody. And so I started my business. And for the first three years of my business, I really struggled. And I got into $15,000 in debt because well, my biggest block and my biggest fear and all of those fears come up because entrepreneurship is one of the best litmus tests.
It's like one of the best, a reflection of our wounds of our real personality, right? Not the mask stuff we wear, but the person, the real deal. And so my biggest one was fear of being visible. Fear of being seen, exposed, known. I could not be on camera period. I could not even record myself. For myself, not even to share or go live or be on a podcast or be published in the book right now or any of that, because your visibility is so much more, as you might know, it's not just public speaking.
It's not just being on camera. It is that fear of being exposed, invisible period. And so I've built my I've been building my business despite that fear. And it was a daily struggle. Basically. I lived in this anticipation. That I need to do it again. So daily struggle. And as you might imagine, it's very hard to build my business this way.
And I was working with other people, obviously not reaching enough people, obviously struggling with all the marketing because fear of visibility always also affects fear. Selling marketing self promotion. So I wasn't reaching enough people. I wasn't making the impact I was trying to make. And I was in fear of struggling daily.
And this is when I realized living in the basement department in winter because I had no, I was in debt, $15,000 in debt. I could not move. My neighbors upstairs had a barking dog. I was going insane, cuz I'm very sensitive to smell sound and everything with my intuitive abilities. Right. I was going insane and I realized basically I either have to go back to my job and give up on my dreams or do something differently.
And I had a, another mind-based session. At this time. Right. And I had a breakthrough moment. I realized that I'm doing things wrong. I'm trying to address an issue, which is fear living in my body, in my neuro circuitry, that state of unsafety with my, like, with mindset, because I went from coach to coach, to coach, and I tried all the conventional in conventional, but mind-based tools.
And I was still there, desperate, struggling, not making the impact. And, so from then on, I went on to study trauma internationally. I studied all over the place. To get the knowledge of what trauma does and how it works. And I realized, and I developed a modality to work with trauma, which releases that body memory, basically what I've done for myself to be able to be doing this work now and now doing it with other women.
    And in this process,...
