We fast-forward in our series: “Getting to know Jesus” to Palm Sunday. On the Sunday before his death, Jesus began his trip to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover, knowing that this trip would be his last. Palm Sunday celebrates the beginning of the Passion story, starting with a triumphal entry into the city, and ending with the tragedy of his crucifixion. Join us as we come face to face with a God who loves us enough to give everything to save us.

Temptation is something that everyone faces. Often, we seem to struggle with the same things over and over and it can be easy to give up in defeat. As we continue our series: “Getting to Know Jesus” we learn that the Master also faced real temptation and His experience can teach and empower us to overcome the enemy.

The life of John the Baptist intersects with Jesus from the very beginning. John’s mission is reflected in our lives as well. In every part of what we say and do, our calling is to be “way-makers” for the Messiah and announce the arrival of the King!

This week special guests Rick and Angie Johnson share about the good work that God is doing around the world. They’ll take us behind the scenes in Myanmar where they are meeting the spiritual and practical needs of people. Have you ever wondered about the “lost years” of Jesus? Scholars speculate and Luke only gives us a few stories to bridge the gap between His infancy and the beginning of His ministry. Join us as we look at these passages and get a perspective on His life in context, and what it teaches us about His mission in OUR lives.

Every time we engage scripture we have an opportunity to consider how it is that Jesus fits into the larger story that is the Bible. We also discover a beautiful picture of all of the preparation that God would go through for our redemption.

When we started this series, we set out to start fresh and “Get to know Jesus all over again”. To countless millions of Christians through the centuries, the name of “Jesus” is indeed the most treasured name ever known to them. However, many Christians do not realize that “Jesus” is a translation of His real Hebrew Name. In fact, it is a translation of yet another translation. Once we trace the Messiah’s Name back to its origins, we will find that it’s even more beautiful than we realized and has a much richer meaning that points to God’s eternal plan.

We will continue to look at some of the names and stories Matthew lists in the family tree of Jesus in Chapter 1. What we see there is surprising, shocking and ultimately filled with hope for all people.

This week, we continue to get to know Jesus as we learn more about his ancestry. As we look at his history in scripture we’ll encounter some things that may shock and surprise you. But in the end, we see that even the heritage of our master points to God’s greater purposes for mankind.

Advent and Christmas have come and gone, and we are challenged to “take heart” as a new year of waiting for the second arrival of Jesus has begun. This weekend we’ll begin an exciting new series that looks in depth at the rest of the Messiah’s story and invites us to truly “Get to know Jesus better.”
