Happy New Year! With a new year comes new beginnings. New hopes. New dreams. New goals. When last year ended, were you satisfied? Did you accomplish your goals? For the past several Sundays we’ve been looking forward to the celebration of Christ’s first coming. With great excitement we counted down the weeks until the Christmas holiday. So now that it has come and gone, what’s next? What do we have to look forward to now?

Baby Jesus, born that first Christmas Day, grew to be the man who gave his life for all mankind. Before He left the earth, He promised His followers a special gift who would come in His absence. In the book of Acts, Jesus’ followers encounter the Holy Spirit in a powerful way. This weekend we’ll be looking at one of the main purposes of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Love is a word that is thrown around like confetti these days. So what did Jesus mean when He commanded us to love God and love one another? Jesus was there to see Peter at his best and his worst and this relationship redefined Peter’s future. In 1 Peter he shares his insight with people spread out all over the nations who were repressed, marginalized and hurting. This message of love can redefine our future if we will let it. This weekend we begin the season of Advent, which means “expectation” as we look ahead to Christmas. Before Jesus was born, the prophets waited expectantly as they foretold the coming Messiah. For the next month, we celebrate His arrival with special elements added to our services, focusing on the themes of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. This weekend we finished the Book of James and every part of our service was dedicated to gratitude. During the service we provided opportunities for worship, prayer, reflection and action.
