Detailing the Newport Naval Sex Scandal of 1919

Here's a scandalous bit of Rhode Island history. More than 100 years ago, the US Navy launched an entrapment operation to root out gay sailors and civilians in Newport. The Navy actually commissioned about a dozen undercover sailors to have sex with members of the gay community.

The Globe's Alexa Gagosz talks with Jason Tranchida, the co-organizer of a multimedia installation that puts a spotlight on this bizarre and troubling episode.
