Jack Hughes came to play at the Rock on opening night! While it ttook the Devils 20 minutes to find their rhythm but showed off many of the attributes we expect to carry them through a long 82-game season.

Beyond Jack Hughes speed, puck handling and clinical finishing, there was Vitek Vanecek - who without question held the Devils in the game early and provided Power Play and Short-Handed saves in critical moments.

It was however, not the complete game Danny and Adam wanted to see. Special Teams showed some familiar struggles to a year ago, and surprisingly the Devils failed to win the face-of battle by a significant margin.

In the end the result is all that matters in the early days of the season and New Jersey did just that, securing the home opener win.

Adam Armbrecht looks at Luke Hughes and the Devils final preseason game. It was a young display in the last tune-up as Simon Nemec, Tyce Thompson and the young prospects for New Jersey saw plenty of ice-time. Simon Nemec showed off exactly why he has a bright future, picking up his second goal of camp.;

There was however plenty to watch from a regular season standpoint as Akira Schmid gave a mid-season performance, turning away several critical shots. Nate Bastian also got himself more run as he looks to work himself back into form.

Jack and Luke Hughes showcased every bit of their sibling connection on the Devils Power Play against the Rangers. It has the guys very excited about a 2022 weakness becoming a very dangerous weapon in 2023.

Adam looks to be proven right at the moment, predicting Alexander Holtz would start on the second line - a position he will need to continue his strong preseason in order to maintain. The guys then discuss the impressive top line with Jesper Bratt, Jack Hughes and Tyler Toffoli and if this now becomes one of the top lines in the NHL.

DPL closes out by discussing the young players on the Devils - Simon Nemec may ultimately start in the AHL, while Graeme Clarke seems to still have NHL buzz - All of which is a great reminder of the incoming talent Devils fans can be excited for.

Replacing gRyan Graves and Damon Severson have two straight forward answers: Kevin Bahl and Luke Hughes. The question becomes who is best to serve on the second pairing with John Marino?
