Devotionables

Have you been at a point in your life when it seems God has abandoned you? You're at your breaking point, and you know that God promises to answer prayer, yet your experience is that God is AWOL? King David was in a similar situation when he penned Psalm 22. God heard his prayer and brought him salvation. Jesus prays Psalm 22 from the cross as he suffered and experienced the Father turning his back on him when he bore our sins. Because of that, we know and can trust God will never forsake all who take refuge in him.

Psalm 20 gives such a convicting reminder that we do not seek God for help and our hope in the battles of the world often enough. Paul tells us in Ephesians 6 that we are fighting a spiritual war; yet, we neglect to offer up prayers to God or strategize efforts to have victory over the evil in this world. May Psalm 20 help remind us that we are culpable in these decisions for whom we praise and fight.

In a fast-paced, instant gratification world, it is easy to find ourselves being impatient in our waiting. Psalm 13 gives us an honest look into how David found strength and trust in God while he waited on God to move in his situation. We can trust that God is moving in our waiting.

What happens when we lose focus? We undoubtedly miss the mark at which we are aiming. When we don't focus on God, not only do we miss him, but we also miss his precepts and direction for our lives. Psalm 11 guides us back to God by reminding us where God is so we can focus up once again.

As we enter the fall season, it's a fun time to enjoy everything associated with it, including fall flavors of pumpkin and apple. Fall is the harvest time, and in that, we culminate in our culture with thanksgiving. Giving thanks is appropriate in the fall, and thanksgiving is a trait that never goes out of season for God's people. So, how can we train ourselves to be thankful people and express that thanks like David in Psalm 9?
