On May 28, 2025, during Sean "Diddy" Combs' ongoing federal trial for sex trafficking and racketeering, his defense team requested a mistrial. The motion stemmed from testimony by arson investigator Lance Jimenez, who discussed the destruction of fingerprint evidence related to the 2012 firebombing of rapper Kid Cudi's car. Defense attorney Alexandra Shapiro argued that the prosecution's line of questioning implied Combs' involvement in the destruction of evidence, thereby prejudicing the jury. However, Judge Arun Subramanian denied the mistrial request, stating that the questions were not prejudicial and instructing the jury to disregard them.

This mistrial motion marked the first such request in Combs' trial, which has been ongoing since May 12. The trial has featured testimony from over 15 witnesses, including accounts of Combs' alleged abusive behavior towards ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and others. Testimonies have described incidents of physical abuse, threats, and coercion, as well as the alleged firebombing of Kid Cudi's car, which prosecutors suggest was an act of intimidation. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison.
