In December 1999, Sean "Diddy" Combs, then dating Jennifer Lopez, was involved in a shooting at a New York City nightclub. While both were arrested, charges were eventually dropped against Combs and Lopez, but witnesses placed the blame on another member of their party: Moses "Shyne" Barrow, a rapper signed to Combs' label, Bad Boy Records. Barrow was subsequently convicted on five charges and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

For years, Barrow remained relatively silent about the incident, focusing on rebuilding his life after prison and pursuing a political career in his home country of Belize. He even made public appearances with Combs, performing alongside him as recently as November 2023. This seemingly amicable relationship takes a dark turn with Combs' recent indictment on charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Barrow, breaking his silence, claims Combs orchestrated his downfall, stating, "I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He pretty much sent me to prison".
