In this episode, Jess is dropping some major truth bombs on how to navigate negative thoughts and limiting beliefs– because, as Jess says throughout the episode, we ALL have them. The first thing that Jess makes sure to point out is that negative thoughts are not something we should strive to get rid of. These thoughts and beliefs are instinctual in us and actually fall into our reptilian brain's fight or flight response. So, since we cannot get rid of them, what do we do? We *manage* them. To do this, Jess explains the key is being self-aware.
Jess gives some practical advice on how to manage these negative thoughts and limiting beliefs once we have become aware of them. First, Jess suggests seeing Impostor Syndrome as a feeling rather than a sickness– a feeling of being a newbie. Being a beginner at something is far less paralyzing than being a fraud because it implies that we can grow and gain confidence in what we are trying to do.
Next, when the feelings of "I can't" start to creep in, try and look for evidence of someone else accomplishing what you want to achieve. This leads to the next topic of discussion of using the lens of a third party to attach the negative chatter in your brain to. When we create this character in our mind, it automatically detaches the negative thoughts and creates distance. The same happens when we ask these two questions: Is it true? Is it absolutely true? When these questions are answered, we can then ask ourselves, 'Is it ever true?'
Our brains and egos use our negative thoughts to keep us safe. Rather than try to erase these thoughts and beliefs, we can manage and leverage them to propel our businesses forward.
As always, cheers to your evolution!

Mike serves as the CEO and CFO of Digital Business Evolution, but his journey to where he is today is outlined in this episode. In a culture where many are leaving their corporate jobs to pursue being their own boss, Mike is proof that the reason behind that shift does not always have to be a dislike for the job. Mike freely admits throughout the episode, that he loved his job, but there came a time when he was faced with the benefits that an entrepreneurial life could provide.
As the two progress through the episode, Jess and Mike talk about situations that every entrepreneur can relate to. Monetary goals of needing to make 'X' amount of money before you can quit your job can often turn into obstacles that hold us back from achieving our potential as entrepreneurs. Mike's mindset started to shift when the pandemic hit and he was forced to work at home and see what life as an entrepreneur could truly be. Being the coach Jess is, Mike was challenged to make the decision to leave a job he knew and loved for himself. The result is where we find DBE today.

In this pen and notepad-worthy episode of The Digital Business Evolution Podcast, Jess is talking about all things Instagram Stories. Jess kicks off the episode by talking about simple ways to improve our know, like, and trust factor with our audience such as not rambling, not getting caught up with what others think, and ways to improve our lighting.
Channeling our inner Kardashians, Jess says that we should approach our Stories as an opportunity to be the "director, actor or actress, and the producer of our own reality TV show." Everyone loves a behind-the-scenes look, a glimpse, into the life of others– our audiences are no different. Setting the stage for our reality TV show via IG Stories, Jess gives six must-have items to resonate with our audience more effectively.
Bringing a bit of psychology into the mix, Jess's first tip is to be intentional with your camera angle. Looking down at your camera can give off a lecture vibe– use it sparingly when you are trying to present yourself as an authority figure– otherwise, a little above eyebrow height is a good practice. Next, use the engagement features that IG has. Quizzes, polls, and questions create engagement; then, use the answers to develop your future content. Jess makes a note to keep your writing on the screen and boost your post by inserting some personality– a gif, sticker, filter, and even the font– all make for a more interesting experience. Finally, Jess ends her list with utilizing the location tag to boost your reach and to keep the value of your content in mind.
As always, cheers to your evolution!

In this episode of The Digital Business Evolution Podcast, Jess drops some practical advice for entrepreneurs to follow when it comes to a launch. Jess dissects the four phases of the launch process: the Pre-Pre Launch, the Pre-Launch, the Launch, and what Jess says is the most important, the Post-Launch.
Jess walks us through the post-launch and emphasizes that during this phase– numbers reign supreme. But, as Jess also notes, it is incredibly important to remember which numbers you are taking into consideration. We can have a successful launch as far as the amount of money we bring in, but if we solely focus on the hard-hitting metrics, we can quickly trade in our feelings of success for unworthiness.
Keeping our future clients in mind, Jess suggests several different metrics to take into account to get a better understanding of the story the numbers are trying to tell. While some may be difficult to measure– Impact, for example– they are worth bringing the team together to review in order to make the next launch even better.
Jess closes out the episode by reminding us that our clients deserve us taking the time to do a proper post-launch review. When we do so, it leads us and our business to scalability, sustainability, and profitability.
As always, cheers to your evolution!

In this episode of The Digital Business Evolution Podcast, Jess shares with us a value-filled exchange that outlines the five mistakes– that are really just lessons– that have shaped how her business runs to this day. The evolution that Jess's own business has undergone with these lessons can serve as a beacon for other entrepreneurs to look to– to gain confidence and validation, that even though these obstacles have presented themselves, it is something to grow through rather than just go through.
Jess dives into the very first lesson she learns and talks about the need to hire slow and fire fast rather than hiring reactively and firing out of fear which causes us to wait to avoid the inevitable confrontation. As entrepreneurs, we also have a tendency to put our business first which leads to the second lesson Jess gives us. It is okay to put your own life first rather than build your life around your business. For most entrepreneurs, this is the reason we go into business in the first place, yet how quickly we forget and get bogged down in doing just the opposite which can cause many to burn out.
Jess delivers the next lesson to keep our relationship with clients in mind when learning to "sell the island rather than selling the vehicle." Jess explains that when interacting with clients, keep their intended destination in mind instead of trying to sell your product.
The final two lessons are the most intrinsic in value when it comes to being an entrepreneur. Don't get distracted by shiny objects. While this could mean a pivot in your business, Jess contributes that this could also mean getting distracted by comparing ourselves to others. This leads into the final conversation over which entrepreneurs often feel they need to have everything figured out. There is no need to put the immense pressure on ourselves that this mentality can cause– we are not in the "Sororities or Fraternities of Suffering" and can let our egos get out of the way so our businesses can evolve and flourish.
As always, cheers to your evolution!

In this episode of The Digital Business Evolution Podcast, Jess shares yet another controversial topic in business– client objections. Because this is a highly discussed area of interest for businesses navigating the seas of potential clients, Jess breaks down her take as to why clients may push the brakes when it comes to utilizing our services and products that we offer into two different paths: circumstances and fear.
Jess explains that a reason why a client may not be taking advantage of coaching services is in fact they are not, circumstantially, in the right place. This could be for a wide variety of reasons, but one thing Jess makes clear– it is not our place as the coach to tell them they are wrong. Jess reiterates that same ideal as she says, "I lead with compassion, I meet you where you're at."
Jess then describes the fear that may hold a client back from their decision. She explains that fear is really just a client's way of voicing a deeper issue that is rooted in uncertainty. When presented with this obstacle, as long as the client has allowed it, a coach can come in and help by dismantling old beliefs that are holding the client back and then creating new beliefs that empower.
As always, cheers to your evolution!

In this episode of The Digital Business Evolution Podcast, Jess shares the three different components of creating a successful coaching business or course. When thinking about the different services to provide, coaches can get bogged down with all the different possibilities. This is why Jess suggests the group coaching approach is a great starting point for a coaching business.
Jess takes a dive into the "why" of group coaching and explains that this approach allows for several benefits including greater impact with less of your time, strong community, and scalability. She points out the Ascension pyramid and uses it to explain how group coaching lies in the "just right" level as a starting point. We envision the pyramid again and use it to avoid some common mistakes that coaches can make by starting out at the bottom or top levels.
Jess closes out the episode by sharing her 3 C's approach of creating a successful coaching program. The first 'C' is content. Jess explains that, as a coach, your focus isn't necessarily on teaching, but there should still be some easy-to-consume content for your clients to learn. This leads to the second 'C' of coaching. Jess describes coaching as the investment of a coach to their client's success. Finally, the third 'C' is community. When the foundational content is supported by a coach, it can truly be extended through the peer-to-peer relationships that are formed through a strong community.
As always, cheers to your evolution!

In this episode of The Digital Business Evolution Podcast, Jess shares how the topic of certifications can be a controversial one and suggests it ends up holding many entrepreneurs and coaches back in their business. The idea of obtaining certification first and then starting business second doesn't always make the most sense. While Jess notes the importance of a proper certification, she also breaks down the idea that the foundations of your business should come first and then you can focus on gaining your certification. Jess further explains that entrepreneurship is similar to gardening; without nurturing a garden you cannot expect it to grow and the same is the truth in your business, it cannot grow properly without proper nurturing. With a focus on certification rather than business first, entrepreneurs limit their impact to their audience and hinder their business opportunities. Jess suggests that building your business should happen *while* getting your certification at the same time to build the know, like and trust factor.
When we put the focus of building a business on a solid foundation first while we get certified, this opens the door for many opportunities to come into your business. Ideas of content to create so you can build your authority to your audience is a positive consequence when you have prioritized the business first. When your audience recognizes you as the expert that you are, it will automatically separate you from the rest of the crowd and your business will flourish!
As always, cheers to your evolution!
