Welcome back everyone - Let’s continue down our list of mind tricks to use when we find ourselves disregulated or leaning into old, unwanted behaviors.
Opposite action - Doing the opposite action of what we are craving
Doesn’t have to be the complete opposite, can just be a better choice Make a big deal of itCreates new habits, new neural pathways“I could do this, but I can choose a healthy opposite action” Tell somebody.. Say it out loud - Identify these negative cognitions out loud
Does this sound true or irrational? Community is important - say it out loud, and allow someone to reflect and react Name it to tame it - notice/acknowledge the feeling or emotion attached to the craving
Don’t attach to them, but spend time with and name these emotions Radical Accountability - wacky, silly, or extreme ways to get ourselves through the cravings *Urge surfing - sitting in our disregulations and negative emotions until they pass
This is a challenging practice that requires mental muscles Sitting through thoughts and cognitions, discovering the feelings underneath them, maybe connecting to themCall to action: You now have ten new mind tricks to use; implement one this week!
