Today I’m sitting down with someone who truly embodies the modern-day cowgirl—bold, brilliant, and not afraid to shake things up in the Western world.

Sadie Noblitt grew up with deep roots in both California and Texas, raised in a rodeo and ranching family where horses and horsepower were just part of everyday life. These days, she’s channeling that same grit and passion into the Western fashion industry as the Brand Manager for Charlie1Horse at HatCo. If you’ve ever seen a hat that made you stop scrolling—there’s a good chance Sadie had something to do with it.

In this conversation, we dive into her journey from the show pen to the branding boardroom, and how she’s now working with artists like Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson to keep Western culture both rooted in tradition and totally fresh. We talk about what it’s like being a young woman in a male-dominated industry, how mentorship and family have shaped her path, and the importance of showing up as your most authentic self—whether you’re in the arena or behind a marketing campaign.

Of course, we also get into the fun stuff—reality TV dreams, guilty pleasures, and the hustle behind the glam. Sadie brings the laughs, the insight, and the kind of wisdom you don’t always expect from someone still early in their career.

I was so excited this week to talk to someone I’ve only known previously through social media – Kait Thornton, aka Apple Girl Kait!

If you don’t follow her already, Kait is a fourth-generation orchardist from Washington State who’s quickly become a notable advocate for agriculture. Kait helps run her family’s apple and pear farm, but she’s also building her personal wealth through social media, sharing real and relatable content about her life and family business. Kait specializes in apples and connecting with people, which is very apparent in our conversation.

This episode goes much deeper than just apples and Instagram. Kait opens up about what it’s really like managing crews, dealing with the pressure of a multigenerational business, balancing that with that social media and how she’s found success, and navigating the very real mental health challenges that come with the remote lifestyle of farmers. We also get into the power of mentorship for women in ag, and the sometimes overwhelming—but beautiful—responsibility of being the “next generation.”

Even with so much real talk, we squeezed in some girl talk and games too - about social media, guilty pleasures, favorite movies, reality TV and more.

Kait is both hilarious and heartfelt – and exceeded my expectations as one of her online admirers. I hope you enjoy getting to know the girl behind the apples!

Today’s guest is someone I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know both on and off the screen. I filmed with her for the first episode of FarmHER Season 6 and now I call her a friend — Megan Shanley Warren.

Megan is the CEO and co-owner of Shanley Farms, a specialty fruit farm on California’s Central Coast that started as the retirement project of her late father, Jim Shanley. Megan worked closely with her dad to develop Shanley Farms as a brand of unique, quality produce — highlighted by Morro Bay avocados, passion fruit and Citrusburst finger limes — and after his recent unexpected passing, she’s taken over the operation.

We talk a lot about their favorite crop, finger limes (which I first tried when filming her TV episode, and now I’m hooked!) as well as what it’s been like running the farm with her husband and three boys. Megan also opens up about losing her parents, motherhood, money, media and the lessons she hopes her kids carry forward from farm life.

This one is a little bit of a tearjerker at times, but we have a lot of fun too! I asked all my burning questions about Farmer Wants A Wife — Megan’s brother-in-law Matt is one of the bachelor’s in Season 3! — and what it was like having the farm taken over by a reality TV crew and a handful of bachelorettes. We also share some funny behind-the-scenes stories from filming FarmHER, talk thrifting finds, and discuss our guilty pleasures.

It’s stories like Megan’s that remind me why Dirt Diaries exists—to celebrate the women shaping agriculture while getting to connect with and know them in a real way, beyond their careers or roles on the farm/ranch. Even if you watched her episode of FarmHER on TV, this episode offers so much more insight into Megan Shanley Warren, and ! know you’ll love her just as much as I do!

I cannot wait for you to hear today’s episode because it’s with someone I’ve admired for a long time — Mary Heffernan.

You’ve probably seen Mary’s name pop up again and again, and for good reason. She’s the force behind Five Marys Ranch, where she and husband Brian raise cattle, hogs, and sheep as well as four daughters.

In this episode, Mary opens up about her journey from Silicon Valley to full-time ranch life, and what it really takes to run a ranch, raise a family, and build a business from the ground up — which she has now done multiple times. She’s not only built a direct-to-consumer meat business, she’s also launched a line of tallow wellness products, established the Five Marys Cowboy and Ranch Camps, opened a restaurant, written several books and teaches entrepreneur education courses— not to mention sharing her life on social media where she’s become an inspiration to so many women in agriculture.

Mary’s got this no-nonsense honesty about the highs and lows of ranching and business that I think will hit home for a lot of you. She’s passionate, grounded, and one of the hardest working women I know —and this conversation is full of wisdom, laughter, and some tough truths we probably all need to hear.

Kicking things off with a bang (and a little baby talk), my friend Janie Johnson Finlay joins me for the very first episode of Dirt Diaries!

After catching up about our latest bachelorette party adventure, we dive into the big news: Janie’s now a mom! She and husband Jake Finlay welcomed daughter Olivia in January. Janie talks all about motherhood, filming the last season of RanchHER while pregnant, being about ready to pop while reporting at the 2024 NFR, and how Livy has changed their lives — in the best and wildest ways.

We also cover how she’s handled slowing down on the family ranch in Canyon, Texas, swap some funny stories about her Aussie bronc rider hubby, and Janie gets real about what it’s like filming a show like RanchHER. She shares her favorite moments (and toughest challenges) from Season 2, as well as why she decided to step away—trusting me to take back the reins.
