Episode 51 - Get Rexxed!

We leave our regular game for this week, and explore a moment from Rathmus Rex’s past. In a noir-inspired episode, we see Rathmus as a young, slightly naive officer of the New Republica Police Department, given the task of investigating the murder of a habberdasher. Joined by an amateur detective, a retired inspector, and an efficient secretary, our young dragon-born beat cop explores the seedy underbelly of the city, and comes face-to-face with the corruption within his beloved department.

As our heroes grow accustomed to their new-found boons and abilities, they explore the artifact room at the top of Ivazhal’s tower, and are drawn to drawing cards from the fabled Deck of Many Things! As the Avatar of Death is drawn, a fabulous drag queen wearing a gown of black feathers appears, and challenges the drawer to prove themselves worthy of being her vassal. It’s too bad for Marcus that the stat block for an Avatar of Death absolutely sucks, however. Our party wipes the floor with this supposed threat, to hilarious results. But that isn’t the only card pulled from the deck, and some of them have major consequences. Can our heroes cut it and survive this chaos? Listen to find out!

Our heroes enter the black tower, and quickly discover that reality here is a fragile, or at least subjective, thing. After several minutes searching for each other amid the darkness and omnipresent whispers, along with the return of the real (so we hope) Lonlin, two of our heroes vanish. Having defeated the Scales of Injustice, our heroes wrestle with the revelation that he isRathmus’ brother, and that he was hired by Andrew’s father. They also welcome backtheir compatriot Lonlin, who appeared seemingly out of nowhere last session. With newinformation at hand, old wounds reopened, and plans moving ahead, our heroes needto move fast. Oh, also, Salem and Lonlin fight.

It’s the middle of a sandstorm, and our heroes have been disturbed from their rest by a blast of lightning from a shadowy shape in the sands. Is this yet another dragon they must fight? Or does Marcus have something weirder and more mysterious up his sleeves? (Hint: Marcus enjoys pulling the rug out from under his players). Struck by a sudden and surprising sand storm, our heroes struggle to scrutinize their surroundings and seek to stop the scouring sands from separating some of them from the safety of the ship. Lisette finds a loophole within her new contract with the Archives, and also finds time to sabotage her relationship with Angie - how does she do it all? But just as everyone is beginning to feel a sense of security, their rest is interrupted by an explosion outside in the storm.

There were three very clear rules - 1) Tip your waiters. 2) Don’t kill the waiters. 3) If you’re gonna kill each other, do it outside. Too bad our heroes forgot about rule number 1. And now, Quincy Bones is refusing to let our heroes leave, and is threatening to turn them into undead.
