Kritik Bewertungen:

Edwin Hubbles discovery of the Big Bang is one of the most important in astronomy and physics. It taught us where the universe came from and how it might end. Students will learn how Hubbles early, unprecedented photographs of pulsars served as one of the first clues along the path that led him to the discovery of the Big Bang. Listeners will also discover how Hubbles discovery opened up new doors to information about the universe.

Critic Reviews:

"Paul Kupperberg introduces upper elementary students to the life, times, and discoveries of Edwin Hubble, a premier American astronomer, for whom the Hubble Telescope was named. Jay Snyder presents the material in a clear professorial voice that will engage young students interested in the mysteries of the universe. Although the concepts are complex, Snyder's careful, concise delivery helps the listener stay engaged. Hubble's life is placed in the context of the history of cosmology, an approach that shows how his studies and discoveries tested and verified theories scientists had studied for hundreds of years." Good information on Hubble, but a little dry

A lot was packed into this hour long program, interesting facts and breakdown of Hubble's background. The narrator was a little bland though, I would find it hard to stay interested if it had been a longer book.

Length: 2 hrs and 6 mins

Language: English

Release date: 01-06-10

Watch as the curtains open and the opera begins. The seven operatic stories in this beautiful collection are each proceeded by an introduction about the origins of the story. There are also extensive notes about opera houses, behind-the-scenes terminology, famous opera houses and composers, and more.

Members Reviews:

Recommended in addition to print book

Here the multitalented Miranda Richardson performs the stories of seven operas: Mozart's "The Magic Flute," Britton's "The Little Sweep," Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel," Wagner's "The Flying Dutchman," Rossini's "La Cenerentola," Gluck's "Orpheus ed Euridice," and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Christmas Eve." It would be nice to have Shahrukh Husain's print book to go along with this, as well as some other opera-related references and photos, if possible. Overall, a valuable addition to classical music education.

Charming!

I listened to this with my oldest son in the car, and we were enchanted with the narration by Scott Sowers of this charming and fun story. We loved the clever way that the characters expressed themselves. We have been quoting this book all week! It reminded us both of the Soup books by Robert Newton Peck. I would love to listen to more small adventures for Popeye!

Funny, a delight

My kids and I have listened to this story several times. I admit that in the fist five minutes I had doubts, and suggested we move on to something else. They protested, and were right. It is a funny, wonderful, and unexpected story.

These 10 amendments comprise the Bill of Rights.

As our country has grown, American citizens have continued to rely on this landmark document as a means to defend the liberties of all, across boundaries of race and gender, age and class, religion and ethics. Focusing on examples of ordinary citizens who have had the courage to challenge their government and raise their voices at injustice, Russell Freedman's compelling text is essential reading for every American.

I have been reading this with my seven year old and they love it. It is interesting, has a lot of period pictures and doesn't seem to have a strong political leaning in either direction.

Editorial Reviews:

A short introduction to the many marriages and divorces of Henry VIII, with an emphasis on how they changed England. Young listeners learn all about Henry's life and various relationships, including the one with the Pope, and are introduced to the concept of the Reformation. The writers here do an excellent job of presenting the material in a matter-of-fact style that is accurate while still being suitable for kids. Performer Todd MacDonald narrates in a slightly sing-song voice that's great for children, with a light Australian accent that seems more charming than distracting.

Critic Reviews:

"I'm learning all sorts of stuff about stuff I didn't even know I didn't know. And it sticks. In a nutshell: wonderful." (Jonathon Margolis, Financial Times)

Fun for a drive with kids (ages 6-10)

What did you love best about Cyril Bonhamy and the Great Drain Robbery?

Our whole family loved Hugh Laurie's narration. He made this a fun listen by making best of the accents and exagerating the silliness of the story with his expressive performance.

What did you like best about this story?

It's a very silly story filled with physical comedy - perfect to keep our kids aged 6 and 8 entertained on a drive to a holiday destination.

What does Hugh Laurie bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

A performer like Laurie was needed to make best of the physical comedy parts!

Any additional comments?

I wish there were more kids' books read by Laurie available on Audible.

Brilliantly told and enjoyable for all the family!

I listened to this story with my family as a child when we used to drive to Spain and back every year. I loved it then and my kids and I love it now. Its funny characters and clever story read brilliantly by Hugh Laurie take you on a hilarious, imaginative and unexpected adventure through France. One that the whole family can enjoy. Its a timeless family favourite that has lived through two generations in our household.

Super!

We thoroughly enjoyed this book. Hugh Laurie brings the incompetent Cyril to life in a way only he can. The story is quite ridiculous but in a funny and entertaining way - think Inspector Clouseau but for children.

Great!

If you have a long journey coming up this will keep everyone entertained.

Accidental hero

Anything read by Hugh Laurie is a delight for me. Entertaining story of the accidental hero.
