A good childrens book

Its a good read for an elementary school child. I was looking for something more in depth but will keep it for my children to read.

Great story of an unknown American.

Wow!

We traveled the Lewis and Clark trail in July, so we did a lot of reading about the expedition and its members. This is an awesome book on York. There is not that much historical information on York, but Laurence Pringle did a great job explaining what we knew and what we could infer.

The illustrations of tall, strong, handsome York are absolutely excellent -- as a hunter, as a boatman, as a member of the expedition, York was held in high regard by everyone.

This is a great book. Get it if you are interested in the expedition, and especially if you are raising adventuresome little boys like mine.

I got this book for my grandson, and by the time we finished it I was hooked. I now am reading the rest of the Foley's works. I can't wait until the next one comes out.

Great Detective Story That Teaches To Face Fears

This book is an award winning book and I can see why. I know a few kids who like detective/mystery kinds of stories and this book delivers.

All kids at some point have some kind of fear. One of the biggest fears ever is just knowing that there is a monster hiding under the bed. The main character Allen is convinced of this and needs help.

Mysteriously, a small looking character arrives to help out. But who is he and what does he want for payment? Ah, now that is what you, my readers, have to discover for yourself.

Kid's normal fears, like huge, ugly monsters, or maybe a bully, are all in this book. However, the author cleverly shows children that they can be brave and help themselves to conquer their fears. In fact, throughout this entire book the author is a master at this fete.

Eventually, the fears go away and children can see, as Allen does, that they too can help others.

I loved this book! It is the beginning of an entire series based on Will and it is sure to please series that I hope to read more of.

I love how the author works some really serious issues (bullies, abuse, insecurities) into such a fun, entertaining story. What a great way to approach tough subjects.

Some of the monsters did scare my six-year-old a bit. And I'll admit my husband and I had a fun time teasing him a little, but then discussed with him about how monsters are really just our imagination. In the end, however, he really did enjoy the story, and I love seeing him engaged with reading as much as he was with this book.

After finishing the Great Monster Detective, he signed up on the website to become an honorary Monster Detective. He thought that was super cool.

I Think u are really good at these I love the way you always have an mystery in every book of famous five and I always have to try and work it out but it is so hard that by the time I'm sort of getting the mystery, it tells u what was the problem

Very good

The voices are very clear and fit the characters well and the story is very exiting.

Most enjoyable overall but.....

Awful gaffe of being given 25p for report instead of half a crown, really cringe worthy, and the usual dreadful change to jeans instead of shorts. Such a shame, as all generally as written, of the era, and familiar and fondly remembered and loved. Please, don't change text! Otherwise , smashing.

These books are excellent for teaching young readers about the elements of story writing. It clearly portrays the issue, solutions, and moral take away. Would definitely recommend! Hope this helps.

What could be more perfect? I read it through

I bought this book for our dentist whose wife is his assistant. What could be more perfect? I read it through, and laughed a lot, too! It is a really cute book with great illustrations. Kids will love it.

I'm a HUGE Steig fan. His books for children are just as much fun for the adults reading them to the tots. Dr. De Soto and his wife are smart, funny and willing to take on the risk to treat a fox who might just eat them after treatment -- but they have a terrific surprise in store for him that shows they're no dummies. Fun stuff and you cannot beat the illustrations.

So fun!

It's hard to find a book that's engaging for both my 13 y.o. daughter and 10 y.o. son but this book is perfect! It's fast paced, clever, and a lot of fun. I enjoyed listening to it as well. We haven't found another book that interests all of us since reading Moxie...

Great wilderness survival story for young adults!

When Will moves with his mother and stepfather Jim to Alaska from Boston, he is taunted and dismissed by the local boys at school as a cheechako, a greenhorn. But when he makes a daring rescue of a dog caught on an ice floe, he earns the respect of one of these boys, and they soon become friends. From Elias, Will learns how to run sled dogs, split wood, throw a hatchet, and clean and dry salmon at his friend's family fish camp. Months later, when Jim is days overdue from his winter field work studying caribou herds, Will must strike out in the wilderness with a team of dogs to try to locate him. He soon finds himself caught up in a powerful Siberian blizzard and is forced to make split second decisions, relying on every ounce of strength, endurance, and survival smarts he has gained.

Jonathan Stratman certainly knows his territory and masterfully provides authenticity to the setting, characters, and edge-of-your-seat series of events. Excellent Read! Hard to put down!

Loved it! Picked up the book to read on my commute. The story had me hooked right from the start! Highly recommend for anyone. The story moves along with ample detail, to feel like you are right in the midst of it. And the story brings laughter and tears and was hard to put down.

Strong Alaskan Adventure for the Reluctant Middle School Reader

Mr. Stratman knows the Alaskan bush. His writing is imbued with bits of Alaskan knowledge that will appeal to middle schoolers and adults alike. As an Alaskan middle school teacher with 30+ years of experience, I know what appeals to young teenagers and this book should find wide acceptance in that market. I would strongly recommend it for reluctant middle school readers that love outdoor adventure. "Cheechako" could be just the book to get them "hooked on reading".
