    wonderful
    Enjoy
This book was given as a Christmas gift to my 9 year old. She received this book along with a couple others to go along with her telescope. She is an avid and advanced reader. The comic book style may be an advantage with some youngsters. I choose the book for the mystery type style. While I was shopping for a specific topic the series could become and addition to Kayla's library. Well written for a pre early teen.
    Good information and format
A short but informative scenario that might entice kids to learn more about space. Great to use as an introduction for classroom units.

    Excellent for its Purpose
Checks and Balances: A Look at the Powers of Government (Searchlight Books: How Does Government Work?)is an excellent addition to any elementary school library. Checks and Balances explains clearly the balance of powers between the three branches of the United States Government. Teachers could use the book in classes to clarify those powers in early civics lessons. The pictures are current and clear including the current Supreme Court and president. This is an excellent choice to update a library, and is written for third through fifth grade.

Beautiful single-volume edition for a great price
This is a beautiful, well constructed, and finely printed volume of the collected works of Sherlock Holmes. These are my impressions of the book (mostly good!):
    THE PROS:
    * It is a hardcover book with a cloth cover. It has an elegant houndstooth pattern and simple cover design (as shown in the picture). It also comes with a yellow ribbon bookmark and a slipcase for storage. Overall I think it's a really attractive book that would certainly catch my eye on the shelf. It's one of those book designs that makes you want to read it.
    * The binding is cloth and seems to be very durable. Cloth bindings are, of course, commonly used on big books, such as bibles and dictionaries, that are large and heavy and need to last a long time. I think that's the goal with this volume as well.
    * The book itself is quite large: approximately 10 inches tall, 7 inches wide, and nearly 3 inches thick. It's also fairly heavy owing to its thinnish pages. In my opinion, these attributes qualify as good things. The entire collected works are here in one volume, which I can keep in a single place on my bookshelf, and use as a single volume when I want to take the book on a trip or read the stories to my children. But I see that this is a matter of preference (see my "cons" section below).
    * The text is printed on the small side, but I think it falls easily within the readable category (not always to be expected from a single volume edition of Sherlock!). See my photo for a better look.
    * The paper is nice, in my opinion. It's not quite as thin or glossy as bible pages, but it's on the thin side. Any thicker and it could never fit into a single volume.
    * The price is right. I briefly consideredThe Complete Sherlock Holmes (The Heirloom Collection), which is beautiful and seems nice (complete with illustrations), but it is $60 and seemed on the pricey side. This Knickerbocker Classics edition is much more affordable, and has the added benefit of matching a large number of other collections of other famous novels.
    * Best of all, it contains all 4 novels and 56 short stories -- the full collection, printed in order of publication.
    THE CONS:
    * Many of the things I stated in PROS could also be CONS depending on individual preference.
    * Some may prefer to have their Sherlock divided into tiny, lightweight paperbacks that they can stuff in a jacket pocket or purse to read on the bus or at the coffee shop. This volume is not very suitable for that.

A Great Financial Literacy Book For Children
Before reading âWe$ley Learns about Creditâ I had never even heard about credit. âCredit is the ability to get something from someone before paying for it because that person trust that you will pay for it later.â The higher your credit score is the more your trusted to pay back any money that you owe. If you credit score is low people might not want to loan you any money because they will be afraid that you wont be able to pay them back. In the story Wesley was spending the weekend at his Uncle Robs. Uncle Rob was shopping around for a new car so he takes Wesley with him to the car dealership. Uncle Rob finds a great car, but when the car dealers run his credit it shows that Uncle Rob has a low credit score. The car dealers won't give Uncle Rob a loan because his credit score was low so they don't trust him enough to pay them back. At first I thought learning about credit would be boring since its something you do as an adult, but I like the fact that the author showed kids a few ways that they can start building credit early. I think this a great book for all kids to read because one day we will need to use our credit so why not start building credit and learning early so we don't have to learn like Uncle Rob did in the story.

Make learning parts of speech fun!
Who thought learning parts of speech could be fun? My 6 yo loves this set of grammar fact books- not boring, and she gets a fun story to explain the different parts (pronouns)- other books include adverbs, nouns, verbs, etc.
    I highly recommend these books!
    Engaging Books
I originally checked these books out at our local library and my oldest daughter (age 7) loved them! They are a great tool in teaching the parts of speech and the function for each part. We loved them so much that I am slowly buying the whole set so that we can read them over and over. I have a feeling these books will be a wonderful part of homeschooling library for our three children.
    Love these Books!
I stumbled upon these for my 3rd graders! They love them too! I sometimes begin a lesson by reading aloud and then they are left out for reference for the the students to look at! They are used all the time!
    Four Stars
Great introduction to pronouns in grammar! Fabulous addition to my library!

    Title: King of the Bench
    Subtitle: No Fear!
    Author: Steve Moore
    Narrator: Maxwell Glick
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-28-17
    Publisher: HarperAudio
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
From the nationally syndicated cartoonist of In the Bleachers comes a new middle-grade series about Steve, who plays the same position in every sport: benchwarmer. Perfect for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Timmy Failure, King of the Bench is an ode to teammates, underdogs, and benchwarmers everywhere.
Steve is King of the Bench. No brag. It's just a fact. But this year Steve and his friends are excited to try out for the Spiro T. Agnew Middle School baseball team. The only problem is, after watching another player get beaned by a fastball, Steve has developed a serious case of bean-o-phobia - the fear of getting hit by a pitch. If Steve ever wants to get off the bench and get in the game, he's going to have to muster up some courage, and fast.
Oh, and if you're wondering why Steve would write a book and tell total strangers all about the humiliating phobia that almost ruined his first year on the baseball team? Duh. It's pretty much a rule that you spill your guts when you write a book about yourself.
    Members Reviews:
Best baseball book since Field of Dreams. And I'm not even exaggerating.
Can a terminal middle school benchwarmer overcome the fear of having his nose turned sideways by a fastball? Will the coach ever fully extract all his earwax, and if so, how will he start his car? And what does a homework-gobbling boa constrictor have to do with any of this? Learn the answers to these and about a billion other questions in Moore's far-from-average tale of an average kid who somehow pulls triumph from near certain disaster. No brag, just fact.
    Loved it.
I didn't read this, but my husband did. He loved it.
    Funny, Sly, Wise, and Big-Hearted
Not to get too gushy or to exaggerate but, "no brag. Just a fact", this is a nearly perfect middle grade book.
The set up appears simple enough. Steve and his two pals just barely make the school baseball team. At the beginning of the season one player gets his nose smashed by a pitch, and Steve, who watched it happen, develops Bean-O-Phobia. He now fears pitched balls. Since Steve spends most games on the bench he is called upon only infrequently to actually bat, but when he does bat he is frozen by fear and does terribly. Naturally, in the big end of the season championship game he is called upon to bat in a critical situation.
Seems pretty predictable, if not downright clichéd, right? Well wait. The author, Steve Moore, does everything right, never sounds a single false or off note, and does something fresh with the setup. (And even the drawings are smack on the money.)
First off, our hero Steve is a hoot. Moore pulls off the very difficult job of making the hero smart, funny and observant, as well as articulate and insightful, while still having him come across as a sometimes goofy and totally realistic and relatable middle grade kid. I've read a lot of books with middle grade heroes who think and speak like adults, and I've read even more books with middle grade heroes who are manic and oblivious, but it's awfully rare to get a hero who does double duty so well. With a kid like this at the center of a book, you are already halfway home. (Note the baseball metaphor there.)
On top of that we get some twists and turns in the story, (NO SPOILERS HERE), that confound one's expectations but lead to a happy, instructive and upbeat conclusion for everybody.
