    Title: Knowing Jack
    Author: Julie Elizabeth Powell
    Narrator: Joel Froomkin
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 4 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-24-15
    Publisher: Julie Elizabeth Powell
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 17 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Twelve-year-old Jack knows they shouldn't go but is unable to persuade his parents not to take the planned trip to the Lake District. Something was going to happen, but what?
The weird feelings he had were always so fuzzy and they didn't always make sense. Maybe it was just because he'd have to spend time with his pampered cousin, Rosie? Anyway, it was nearly Christmas and what could go wrong with just staying in some cabin in the woods?
He was being stupid...all he had to do was ignore the way his belly churned and his head pounded.
He might be wrong after all.

Like a modern day Robert Louis Stevenson adventure
This book was really enjoyable... Great for kids around the 8-10 mark I would think. Preteens I think would find the characters engaging and the narration exciting. The story is about a young boy named Jack who finds himself paired in a survival adventure with a spoiled rotten cousin named Rosie that he can't stand. The book reminded me very much of those great kids adventure movies that Disney used to make... like Escape from Witch Mountain. It has that young-hero in the wilderness feel that also reminded me of My Side of the Mountain. If you think your kids would enjoy a modern spin on the Kidnapped or Treasure Island kind of adventure - I think this would be a big hit. The narration is lively with lots of humor and, even though moots the book is dialogue between two kids, it holds your attention really well.
Jack will lead you on an adventure of a lifetime.
I really enjoyed this book. Once again, Julie Elizabeth Powell somehow manages to put together a great storyline with complex characters in a short time frame. That's not an easy thing to do. Most short stories focus on one or the other but she manages to do both and you end up with a truly great read. In this book I really loved Jack, he was a great characters. Jack and his parents are going on a getaway but Jack has a weird feeling that things won't be so good. It turns out Jack has the ability to "feel" bad things coming. It's a great adventure story that
keeps you wanting more and cheering on the good guys. I loved it so much I read it again. A great book for all ages.
The narration was great. I enjoyed how animated the narrator was and how it really bring you into the story and makes you feel like you're right there and a part of it all.
    A page-turner!
What a gripping read! I was engaged from the opening pages. The characters were well-built and believable, the pace quick, and there were a few surprises. I enjoyed watching how Jack and Rosie, who started out as adversaries, became allies and then friends. Definitely left me wanting to hear more about Jack's knowing powers. The narrator did a great job voicing each of the characters and bringing them to life. Recommended for anyone looking for a suspense-filled,fast-paced mystery.
    Knowing Jack
    Any additional comments?
12 year old Jack is reluctant to go on a family trip to the cabin in The Lake District. He is also not thrilled with his Obnoxious cousin Rosie coming along. He just can't fight the feeling that something bad is about to happen. He does voice his opinions to his parents who shrug him off as being too dramatic.Soon Jack and Rosie find out exactly what is in those woods, and find those fears of his just might be real.
Fantastic thriller, for readers of all ages.

    Tony Abbott is great!
Just enough mystery and excitement to keep you glued to the book. Tony Abbott is great!
Great addition to a great series!
I read a lot of fantasy series. I really like this series as a whole. I'm still getting used to the idea of novellas that must be read to keep pace with the series. All that being said this book was a lot of fun to read and it was great to get more in depth into Becca. This is a great addition to the series.

    Making kids believe in themselves!
I thought this book was adorable. My kids loved it - and so did the grownups listening along. It's got tons of adventure (that never gets too scary) that my boys thought was great fun. The voices - especially Fen, the giant magic bunny, are so colorful and engaging. It totally brought the characters to life. For the 7 to 10 range this is a delightful fantasy story about a normal boy who has to find the bravery within himself to save a magical world. It was a great message about the potential within all of us to help others... but a whole lot of fun along the way.
    Sooooo much fun.
Would you consider the audio edition of Saving Mim to be better than the print version?
Oh absolutely... the narrator is fabulous. He does an incredible job creating different sounds for countless magical characters. I also really liked that he found a way to unify the sounds... so that the dragons sounded related, and the rabbits and the mermaids etc... it helped you really identify all of the characters when they interact. The youngsters loved how animated and colorful the voices were.
What did you like best about this story?
The lead character Charlie... he's a great underdog kind of role model for kids. He has real doubts about his ability and his being worthy and special... he really has to learn to believe in himself. It was a lovely story, charming, quirky with lots of heart and a lot of adventure. I think young boys in particular will eat this up.
What does Joel Froomkin bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
So much. It was really delightful....

    Great Read Aloud
An adorable Canary named Bitty tell a story of his work in the Coal mines and his plan to escape. I am a teacher, and this has been a great read- aloud for my first graders. It has great vocabulary to introduce, as well as a subject that my students were not familiar with. It has led to great discussions. They loved it.
    Great book for kids
It's a great story for kids. It's not your traditional story, but is masterfully written with characters that jump off the page. Every school and library should have this book, especially in Appalachian areas.
