    Fabulous historical novel
Would you listen to Two Destinies again? Why?
Absolutely! I loved this entire series. The author skillfully weaves a story based on the war in Algeria and its impact on believers in Christ. I fell in love with her characters and miss them now that I have finished the series. I can't say enough in praise of this author. I can't wait to see what she is writing next.
Have you listened to any of Kirsten Potters other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, and I find her to be an exceptional narrator.

    Title: The Gift
    Subtitle: Chiveis Trilogy, Book 2
    Author: Bryan M. Litfin
    Narrator: Ray Porter
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 14 hrs and 11 mins

    Release date: 06-06-12
    Publisher: christianaudio.com
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 140 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Religious & Inspirational
    Publisher's Summary:
This second book in the Chiveis Trilogy continues the search for the New Testament in a world where the Bible has been lost.
The Chiveis Trilogy takes readers hundreds of years into the future. War and disease have destroyed civilization as we know it. Much technology has been discarded and history is largely forgotten. Slowly, the few survivors have begun to build new communities, and kingdoms now prosper in a kind of feudal order. But the Word of God has been lost for centuries.
After the finding of an Old Testament in book one of the trilogy, The Gift picks up the story of Teo and Ana. Exiled from their homeland and trying to survive in unknown and dangerous lands, they search for any record of the missing Testament. Their journeys lead them into the region we know as Italy. An elite society welcomes Ana, who finds she must choose between her new life and her dream of returning to Chiveis. Will Teo and Ana's relationship withstand the circumstances and new enemies pulling them apart? And can Teo keep ahead of a powerful and mysterious force opposing his search for the New Testament?
Litfin's imagination and fast-paced narrative style will capture the hearts and minds of all fiction readers.

Good theology meets bad story telling
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The listening experience was not bad...it was the story. It's basically a Christian junk novel with good theology. The characters are unrealistic, and it seems like the author just wanted to create some idealized Christian characters, place them in a hostile environment and show how heroic they could be. (Wish fulfilment for believers)
What was most disappointing about Bryan M. Litfins story?
The cheesy romantic storyline between the main characters, AND their unbelievable ability to develop good theology without having access to the New Testament.
It just seemed to me that some of the faith statements the Christian characters were making in this story would require some sort of knowledge regarding a risen savior. They understood that there would be a suffering servant who would be pierced for their trangressions (Isa 53, Zech 9) And they understood that there would be a descendant of King David who would reign forever (II Sam 7) but I don't really think any non-Jewish people living with no historical reference point to understand Judaism could have faith in the God described in the OT.
Jesus had to come and help people make sense of the OT messianic prophecies which are about Him. The characters in this book just sort of figure it all out.
In spite of this God is remarkably impersonal in this book.
What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    meh
What character would you cut from The Gift?
I don't know if any particular character needs to be cut... but you could cut 5 hours from the book and tell the same story. To be honest I purchased the book because it was long, and I wanted to have a book that would last me a long time, but.... so much of it is just the author drawing the story out to try to increase suspense.
    Any additional comments?
*SPOILER ALERT* So in order to see if the story got better I listened to the 2nd book. In the 1st & 2nd books the main female character gets captured 4 or 5 different times. The author is really obsessed with using the fear of rape as a plot device.

    Members Reviews:
    Narrator made a huge difference
Noel Hynd's books are great and I love his Alex LaDuca stories. However, this narrator left such a sour taste in my mouth. First of all, the main character is a woman, so having a woman narrate would have been ideal. Secondly, if you are going to have a man, at least choose a man who can decently preform women's voices. Hill's female voices were horrible and all the same.
I didn't realize until listening to Hynd's book that he over details a lot of sections. While reading it, you automatically skip over parts that are redundant. Unfortunately not an option while listening. I will continue to read Hynd's LaDuca series, but will not be listening to his books anymore. Or anything read by Hill.

    Faith and Love won out!
I loved the book, I've liked all of Janette's books. Story about sahah and her hardships after her husband died and left her with Rebecca, a little
baby girl, a lot of dept she didn't know about. She started working her husbands business to provide for them. Rebecca started to accept the family who cared for herac as her family and tryed calling the women momma and her son uncle Boyd. Boyd's mother would not let Rebecca call her Momma and tryed to keep the contact with Sarah as mother. Sarah worked hard to make enough money to send Sarah to a girls school back east
back could not make enough to bring her home for the summer. rebecca got lost in the life back east after spending about ten years there. and didn't want to come home. She did come home but hated it and her mother said she could go back. After many things happening to her she met a guy how helped find true faith and the Lord Jesus, whom she accepted, and loved her mother again and STAYED at home.
What to do, how to do it.....life is not what you hope for
How do you go home when you don't know what that is? This is an emotional, agonizing story carrying the reader through
a story of loss, determination, sacrifice, pride, detachment and finding God. Heart-wrenching story has few light moments. It's a downer, ending expected. Hard case for what seems best at the time, that action may backfire.
    Clean historical christian novel
I loved the story and the characters were easy to relate to. I loved learning about the job opportunities of women in that time period. I really enjoyed the parts where the Lord was central in the lives. I recommend the book and the author
    Prodigal returns
Was is wise to send a young girl so far away from home? Poor Sarah worked herself to the bone to send Rebecca to a fancy boarding school. Why didn't she marry someone to help her?
Good story. Seemed longer than usual.
    A Difficult Read
The whole book I was hoping for happiness for the two women. They never made choices to make their life better or happy until at the last page. I usually love this author, but this book was my least favorite.

    Prophet (R. J. Larson)
This was an excellent read! Written as if it were talking about something happening today without any religious stigmas. I enjoyed it very much.
I thought the reader did a good job!
What did you love best about Prophet?
Explores what it would be like to represent God ("The Infinite") at a level where you were given glimpses of the immediate future in order to represent God in a time of judgment and change.
What other book might you compare Prophet to and why?
The Exodus in the Bible where God speaks to Moses, along with the prophetess Huldah, a bit of Deborah, and a bit of Isaiah thrown in just for good measure.
But, throw into the mix just a little bit of normal teenage girl who has human emotions and feelings, humor, and depression. A bit like Katness from the Hunger Games.
What does Brooke Heldman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Here's the rub. She expresses A LOT of emotion! If you don't like this, you will be put off a bit. But I certainly felt that her exclamations of emotion generally fit the character well. She was passionate for the reading! Bravo! My children also really like her voice. We all think she struggles a bit with some of the darker male characters (though we think she does well with the lighter ones).
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It reminded me that God is interested in the course of history and he does see all. I am not one to cry, but I did empathize very much and cared about the characters.
    Any additional comments?
I wanted to dispel some of the negative reviews. I and my children have enjoyed this book and will go on in the series.
lt is the bible with new faces
Would you consider the audio edition of Prophet to be better than the print version?
Yes, but then again I am more audiobook than written book. You can multitask with audio.
What other book might you compare Prophet to and why?
The bible. So far this series it's like taking Isaiah, Jonah, Jeremiah, Job, and King David and slamming them all together.
Which character as performed by Brooke Heldman was your favorite?
    Kennen
If you could take any character from Prophet out to dinner, who would it be and why?
God. Who wouldnt want to dine with their creator?
    Fantastic
Great story, and narration. Biblically based.

    Fantastic
absolutely love this book. A story of love, selfishness, sacrifice, forgiveness..The narrator was simply brilliant.
    Not in the Heart
Great book. Loved it. Worth the read.
So comforting, in the knowing that we are imperfect.
Done humorously. God gets the glory and it's so subtly put into perspective in this book.
    Thrillingly Inspirational
Few authors read their own work well. I simply couldn't go to sleep until this page-turner was done. No sordid language or compromising ouches here. Riviting, moving, real and unapologetically God-honoring. I sought it out after War Room and was thrilled! I am ready for the next Chris Farby hit! The guy 's a word-smith with a sense of humor.
    Fantastic book!
Would you listen to Not in the Heart again? Why?
Definitely.....in a year or two. It reminded me to not judge people by what I see. It was heartwarming, a who done it, and just a beautiful book.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I don't want to give anything away. I'll just say it was the last scene that took place in the governor's mansion.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It was interesting enough, but I prefer to stretch out and savor the really good books.
    Any additional comments?
I'm not sure if this was classified under Christian fiction or not. It did have Christians in it, but did not read as "religious". If you aren't a believer, please don't let that stop you from getting this book. You won't be offended nor disappointed,
Great story about redemption and sacrifice
What made the experience of listening to Not in the Heart the most enjoyable?
It had unexpected twists and kept me guessing about what would be uncovered next.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Not in the Heart?
The unexpected ending was my favorite part.
Which character as performed by Chris Fabry was your favorite?
The main character was performed well and his voice had just the right amount of skepticism and believability.
Who was the most memorable character of Not in the Heart and why?
The main character was the most memorable because he changed the most throughout the story.
    Any additional comments?
The gambling addiction of the main character was depressing and made it a little harder for me to identify with him or empathize with him.

    Publisher's Summary:
With echoes of Calvino, Rushdie, and Saramago, this is a stunningly imaginative work that celebrates the tragic and joyous nature of existence on the grandest possible scale.
As I remember, I had just woken up from a nap when I decided to create the universe. So begins Alan Lightmans playful and profound new novel, Mr. g, the story of Creation as narrated by God. Bored with living in the shimmering Void with his bickering Uncle Deva and Aunt Penelope, Mr. g creates time, space, and matter - then moves on to stars, planets, consciousness, and finally intelligent beings with moral dilemmas.
But even the best-laid plans can go awry, and Mr. g discovers that with his creation of space and time come unforeseen consequences - especially in the form of the mysterious Belhor, a clever and devious rival. An intellectual equal to Mr. g, Belhor delights in provocation: he demands an explanation for the inexplicable, requests that intelligent creatures not be subject to rational laws, and maintains the necessity of evil. As Mr. g watches his favorite universe grow into maturity, he begins to understand how the act of creation can change the Creator himself.
    Critic Reviews:
Here is the creation of the universe and the young creator who grapples with what he has made - and ultimately with responsibility and lossA gem of a novel that is strange, witty, erudite, and alive with Lightmans playful genius. (Junot Díaz, New York Times best-selling author)
    Members Reviews:
    The Universe: A Fable
This brief novel defies categorization. Drawing on philosophy, religion and mythology on the one hand and quantum mechanics, relativity, organic chemistry, evolution and astrophysics, on the other, it is the story of a universe (maybe ours?) and its creator.
The character of the creator (the Mr g of the title) recalls the demiurge creator god of gnosticism, a being who is enthralled, troubled and transformed by his creation. Satan and his minions (under the names of Belhor and Baphomet(s)) are also present with the interactions between Mr g and Belhor being reminiscent of that between the Accuser and God in the Bible's Book of Job.
The author creatively, often amusingly, addresses such diverse topics as the existence of time, matter, energy, consciousness, free will and sin. My only negative comment is that the book's conceit can grow a bit tedious at times and leaves several of its topics dangling, although I suppose the latter is intentional. The skillful narration adds wonderfully to the characterization of each of the book's figures. Overall I recommend Mr g as a worthwhile and thought-provoking listen.
Might work as a children's book
I was rather disappointed in this book. The concept seems to be the creation of the universe - though not necessarily ours - by a creator. It is written in what I'd consider a simplistic style, and to my mind was designed to possibly reconcile the controversy between creationism and evolution. It allows for both, but it doesn't work for me.
I found too many internal inconsistencies that wore on me. Maybe I'm just too analytical, but without time, I have to wonder how there ccould be "elders." Without substance, I have to wonder how once matter is created, it can be used by the inhabitants of "the void," where nothing actually exists.

    The Best of the Three
What made the experience of listening to Love Lifted Me the most enjoyable?
This was my favorite of the three in this series. Well, maybe because it was the most recent. They were all very good. I enjoyed the narrator the most in this novel. Good story and great continuation of the story from one to three.
so glad this series ended so well
its hard to write a review without giving the story away it was about letting go forgiveness and forgiving of ending and new beginning healing of the heart and soul learning to trust and love again I enjoyed this one the best I think
    Lovely Journey
I was going through my library and discovered a series that I somehow never listened to. This series, called Songbird Novels, got lost in my sea of books. Well, I listened to them and am delighted to say that if you love faith based stories then put them on your wish list.
This well written series definitely takes you on a journey of life's mistakes and the path to forgiveness. It delves into relationship dynamics, guilt, love, and forgiving yourself and others. It's filled with timeless lessons and nuggets of truth we all need, along with a great story. The narration was very well done and added to the enjoyment of this series.

3 Wedding Stories in One Book
An Amish Wedding is three tales about the Amish people living in Paradise, PA with an intertwined theme. The theme of the book is the wedding of Pricilla and Chester but from the viewpoints of each of the different stories players.
The stories blended nicely together so you couldn't tell there was more than one author.
Brooke Heldman did an excellent job, narrating the stories.
Very enjoyable way to spend the time, highly recommend to fans of the Amish Genre!
