Filler

I've been reading this series and was excited to start in on Spiral. Unfortunately, most of this book just feels like filler and not much happens until the last chapter or so, and that was disappointing. Will need to wait for the next and hopefully the last installment to get any resolution for this series.

Great ideas but some things don't make sense.

The story and general idea of the book and the series in general are what I would consider fantastic! The writing is also fairly good. All that being said, there are so many plot holes, why did the Styx care about Dominion if they could have just waited for the phase? Why did the Styx only have one sample of Dominion and the vaccine if it's so important? Why did they have to use Sarah Jerome to kill Will? That part seemed twisted but it didn't serve any purpose but to give Sarah something to do... The story is honestly wonderful, I love the fantastic things in the books it just seems like there are too many little issues that they didn't think through. Of course it's possible I was rash in judging the series as there is still one book to go, but I don't the issues I have mentioned will be addressed.

I quite enjoy the book and its series

the book has kept me on my toes and anticipation for what happens next to the 9 wolves

VERY ENJOYABLE

For every end, there is a new beginning. This is what Spirit Wolf felt like to me. With everything that happens throughout the plot, and with everything that changes, it seems as though Kathryn Lasky has concluded the first leg of Faolan & company's journey, while at the same time, clearing the slate, so to speak, for the upcoming installments of the series. A lot of loose ends get tied up in this story, as do a lot of questions get answered, but at the same time, like any good story series, new questions arise and plot twists thicken.

The pacing of the story was one of the best in the series thus far, in my opinion, yet for how much occured within the pages of the story, it felt like the story arc didn't progress quite as much as I would have expected. Still, the experience was most enjoyable, the writing very well done as usual, and as always, I can't wait to read what happens next. Definitely worth a read, especially if you enjoyed the previous four installments of this series.

Erik Davies does his usual narrative, which is great most of the time, yet still could be a little better. No major complaints from me though.

Dystopian Wolf Fantasy

On the whole, I like this series... but this particular volume didn't really speak to me. I'm a fan of "furry fantasy" - but not a fan of dystopia, so this book, where the world literally crumbles at the main character's paws, didn't score high on my list. Add to that a focus on the very real death and carnage of a major geologic upheaval, and some parts are genuinely grim.

Erik Davies does a good job with straight narrative, but I find that his voices can be a bit inconsistent from one book to another... the wolf Heep, for example. If the story were stronger - as the past volumes were - I might have not noticed so much.

I'll stick with the series because I'm a huge wolf fan - but I'm hoping that this was an anomaly in an otherwise sound tween fantasy series.

Beautiful illustrations and a great story! Six year old boy loves it and so do the adults who read it with him!

This is a beautifully illustrated book. The pages are laid out well, perfect for a read-aloud. The story is well written. There are lots of places to stop and talk about both the content and more advanced connections. I read this to my 6th graders and they liked it.

Years ago, as an elementary school librarian, I made sure that our library, had a copy of this book. I recently purchased it for myself, because it is one of the books I miss most, since I am no longer in the library. I bought this because it was illustrated by Selznick. Unfortunately it has none of the same magic as the books that he writes. The author of this book talks down to the audience, and makes what should be a decently fun story stiff and boring. Not recommended.

A Childhood Favorite

I absolutely adored these books when I was little! I think they were the first chapter books that I ever read. I was excited when I found these on Audible because not only did I was to revisit them, but I am always looking for books that my 4-year-old daughter will be interested in. I read to her every night, but there are nights that I am either too tired to read much or she doesn't fall asleep after two books. When this happens, I need a book that she likes but isn't so intense that it will keep her awake, and this book fits the bill perfectly. My only complaint is the performance. Ursula K. Le Guin is a great author, but not such an excellent narrator. Her voice is rather flat, and she just isn't the ideal narrator for these books. I have the physical copy of these books and my daughter prefers it when I read them, but she will listen to these when she knows that I'm not up to reading them. I would still recommend the book because the story is lovely, I only wish that they would release a version that has a better narrator. I would recommend this book and the others in the series for children ages 4 - 12.

It was too short. I was very surprised at how short it was. I thought she had enough material to have gone on longer. I felt cheated. But that's because I love her stuff, I guess.

I got this book on a whim because I had a $10 credit and I've heard some of her other works are fantastic. I was a bit underwhelmed by this book. Nothing really happened in the book at all. Cats were born with wings, cats flew away, cats started a new life, the end.

It wasn't bad, but it just didn't bring anything to the table.

My son is reading!

My son is a huge fan of sharks and was given the first edition of this series as a Christmas present. He read the first book in just a couple days and then begged me for the next book in the series. There are very few books that he enjoys reading and even fewer that involve sharks as the main character which is perfect for my future marine biologist. He read this second book in about two days as well and would stop every once in awhile to tell me what was happening with his favorite characters.

Great Book!!!

This series is fantastic, it had my son totally absorbed and looking forward to reading the next evening! Actually I was asked this evening when the next book is coming out. I would highly recommend this series to anyone!

Good children's book and was glad it was in this format so I could listen to it and now what my child was reading and be able to assist in his report.

It is what it is: a simplified story for the film.

While there are a few low points in the writing ("the bad guys"...) it's a fun little story that my kids enjoyed well enough, with an entertaining enough production to keep their interest. As far 1-star reviews complaining that this isn't the full novelization of the movie: it's in the title. "The Chapter Book." There are two primary print products, one being the full novelization, the other being a short chapter book meant for even younger readers. This is the latter.

Don't buy it

This audio book is not the book you buy in the store. My 8 year old daughter is reading Tin Tin and I thought that I would get the audio as well. The audio is less than an hour. The book has 150 pages. Clearly they are only reading the highlights of the chapter. Huge disappointment. The kids love the book and movie. Save your money and don't get it.

A great novel for young readers who love adventure and spy!

We found the series of "Secret Agent Jack Stalwart" from Amazon because many parents recommended it. I bought one for my 6-year-old whose English is his second language and he loved it! I tried to buy from local bookstore in Taipei but we completed the whole series from Amazon. The tools that Jack uses every time and countries he goes in every book really fascinate my son! He can non-stop reading the book and finish it in an hour then read it again and again. In the last book, Jack finally found his brother Max, it is of course a happy ending.

We're glad that the commends from other parents are true, and we're happy to say it as well. Get the complete selection!

A thought-provoking fairy tale

I found this book rather intriguing for several reasons. First, the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. I especially appreciate Rocco's use of color as well as the addition of silhouettes. The illustrations in my opinion are the best part of the book. That does not mean, however, that the writing wasn't good. The writing reminded me greatly of Kate DiCamillo's The Magician's Elephant. In other words, the writing was very lyrical and a delight to read. The book's design is superb, with just enough text and illustrations to make reading it a pleasure.

The second thing I found intriguing about this book was the story itself. This is not a fairy tale that I have heard before so I was interested to see how the story played out. The story itself kind of meanders. It is not really compelling so much as thought-provoking. Like most fairy tales, there is definitely a message here about leadership and wisdom versus greed and hunger for power. I think the book would be enjoyable for the right kind of reader, a more thoughtful reader. Quite a few kids might pick it up because of the gorgeous cover, but I wonder how many would actually finish it. On the other hand, the book would make for some very interesting discussions as a read-a-loud.

Not a young children's book

This story is long and rambling, but it does have a lot of interesting parts. The illustrations are wonderful, but the references are strictly adult and some of the slang would be difficult for a teenager to understand, let alone someone younger. There is also a lot of violence. So, I recommend this for children, but only as a "read to".
