Helpful and Concise

I highly recommend this and the other RC Sproul short books on the basics of Christian faith. At a time when so many people have questions about the fundamentals of what we believe, it is helpful to have resources that provide Biblically sound answers. Getting to know Bible basics is critical to allowing each of us to become prepared for giving an answer to what we believe.

Whether you are a long-time Christ follower or new to faith -- or even just wanting to know more-- understanding repentance will educate and illuminate. This booklet is on my reading list for anyone on a faith journey.

Insightful book...

Great book! Abdu gives fair treatment to unpacking different worldviews, as well as unveiling the natural outworkings of those root belief systems. Defining each belief system's "Grand Central Question" about life and reality, Abdu not only peels back the layers of "why we think what we think", but drives us towards questions that will help us determine whether our paradigm of thought is logical, meaningful, and coherent. I would recommend this book to everyone and feel it would be a great conversation starter, even if you don't agree with Murray's premises and conclusions.

Deep, interesting and understandable

People from any belief should read this book as Murray brings deep ideas and makes his case about the worldviews most inportant questions in a very interesting and reader (hearer) friendly manner. I totally recommend it.

Christian apologetics from a former devout Muslim

What did you love best about Grand Central Question?

Abdu Murray is very thoughtful in all of his explanations regarding questions that many have need to be answered. He explains Islam from his perspective as a former Muslim. This is very interesting to me, I hope that you will find it interesting as well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Grand Central Question?

His statement that tradition or being raised to believe as your parents taught you was not adequate statement of faith. He quotes Jesus as challenging the Pharisees for their beliefs. This led him to a very critical analysis of his personal beliefs. The questions and explanations that follow make this audiobook an excellent resource for anyone Christian, Muslim, secular humanist, or pantheist to analyze what they believe and why.

What about Abdu H. Murrays performance did you like?

The book was well presented, however the information provided is so in-depth and presented fairly rapidly that at least for me I want to take time to digest before proceeding to the next chapter. I like listening to an audiobook, but sometimes the information provided requires time to reflect. I intend to get this book in written form so that I can use many of his thoughtful points whenever given the opportunity to share my faith. I don't usually listen to an audiobook more than once. This will be an exception.

I am so happy that I chose this book. I have been working on getting closer to God for several years. It has been more difficult than I had anticipated because I don't seem willing to take the time that would show a more serious quest for closeness with God. Weekly Bible Study is now on my calendar, my plan to find a church to attend weekly is endangered by my lack of motivation . . . I pray for help with that. This book is a wonderful resource to guide me to the spiritual 'schedule' that will send me more quickly on my path to God. This pray book us great. It bring back a lot memory to me some of the prayers I remember from when I was a kid and my grandma would used the I really like the prayer for strengthened . I read this one all the time and the scriptures John 14:12. Also I really did need to read the serenity pray some times in life you just have to re-read the pray this is very special to me in my life. I will be reading some of there prayers daily.

OK memoir but the message was regurgitated from other sources

I got this book after hearing Pastor Cho speak in person at a conference. I was intrigued and the price was right ($3.99 on sale). I enjoyed reading his autobiography and memoirs of starting Quest Church and One Days Wages. However, I felt like his message simply regurgitated the ideas of many other books I've read such as When Helping Hurts. Also, he talked about how people sacrificed and gave money to ODW and other organizations, which is good. However, he missed a large part of changing our lives to DO things that matter as well. I probably wouldn't recommend it to a friend as I think it would be a better sermon or blog post series.

Life Changing

Eugene Cho's passionate stories about moving from wanting to doing are inspiring and life changing. This is a book that will leave you no choice but to get up and take action.

Until the last 2 chapters, I was likely going to give a 4 but the last 2 chapters made the book

Good material, sufficient execution

This is a good book with good ideas and important things to say. The author spend perhaps a little too much time describing the problem at the expense of bringing about solutions. For example, it is important to make wise decisions in addressing complex issues. There were many, many examples of this. After a while it's starting to sound like the authors pet peeve (which it is, And should be, but this is not as helpful to readers). I would like to hear this author speak or preach on the subject more than read his material as a book. Again, there are very good and important ideas here and I am glad I finished the book. I only wish it had been given more editing.

Convicting.

Cho hits hard in the first few chapters. Prepare for critical introspection. Prepare to have your perceptions of charity/mission work changed.

Just read it and let it convict you to change your lifestyle and inspire a justice oriented view of Discipleship.

Needs different Narrator

Content is good in the book but the Narrator is so unexciting and just feels like a dull book. It's not the biok!

All in one

As a personal trainer and gym owner I really enjoyed the breakdown of the science of metabolism and exercise it was very well explained. And of course what I was looking into learning was the tie in to

the science to the Bible and how we needed to be reaching out to God and the Holy Spirit to help us on our journey.

Very motivating!

Repetitive but powerful

The style felt more like a collection of sermons than a book. The content of the "sermons" was very powerful, insightful and revolutionary. But within the format of a book it came across as VERY repetitive. So much so that it sounded like the same thing was being said over and over again. I still gave it four stars because the content was that good. Definitely worth reading or listening to.

More unanswered questions

The author seemed proud that he had answers questions I never had and left the questions I did have unanswered. He tried to interpret away some hard passages, but left me unsatisfied. The reader's voice was rather dull...but maybe it was the book.

Moves me to action

Recommend this book even though the big words are sometimes troublesome.I'm inspired to make a difference in my neighborhood. Helped me understand that everything makes a difference but not everything may seem like a big deal.

Good content, poor reader's voice.

I was able to finish this book, but the tone of the reader was the audible equal to watching paint dry.

Some pithiness mixed into things I've heard before

The only quotes I found myself jotting down were from quoted sources like Lesslie Newbigin and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It was good to hear people's stories, but a lot of them seemed to be similar to those I've heard in online videos. It's probably a great resource for anyone who hasn't encountered missional communities in person. Just be warned, most, if not all Bible "quotes" are from The Message, so it might offend your sensibilities if you have a liturgical or exegetical background with a high view of Scripture. I much preferred Family on Mission by Mike and Sally Breen.

What would have made The New Parish better?

I bought it with The Art of Neighboring, which I really liked. I thought they were going to be similar with The New Parish being more of a how to do this with your whole church or multiple churches, but I didn't get that out of this

Practical Ways to Share God's Truth

I enjoyed hearing from different effective preachers of the Word and our Lord give practical ways Christians around the world can share God's truth and love!

Christian Journeys

Listening to the various teachings by various pastors gives us a deeper meaning to what it means to be Christian even on a Wednesday. I love this book and know everyone else will also, and no one will fall asleep listening to sermons by these pastors who are genuinely gifted.. If you enjoy Audible, you'll also get to hear the narration by my very own pastor, Dick Staub , who eloquently adds his voice to the subjects of each sermon in between. Very inspiring and very in formative as we travel on our spiritual journey's.

Some great, some not so great

Some of these "sermonettes" are well worth listening to, some I couldn't finish. I have great admiration for Haddon Robinson who always handles God's Word deftly with solid exegesis, timely application and is a great communicator of the Word. Luis Palau is definitely an evangelist with an evangelist message and preaching style. He gives a great call to arms to use every opportunity to share the Gospel message.

On a less sanguine note one of the speakers uses my all time, top one of all top tens worst sermon illustrations ever and that was the end of my listening to this series.
