Deep insights and wild leaps

This volume has some wonderful insights and challenging ideas as well as wild leaps into existentialism. The insights into the influence of the enlightenment on the western church is really helpful for framing the modern and postmodern discussion. The section on gender is wildly nonsensical. The readers leave something to be desired - they do not seem to know to pronounce many of the theological terms they have to read.

Fascinating content, couple narration issues.

This is a fascinating collection of essays, which uses the liturgy as a gateway into post-liberal ethical reflection on a variety of topics. The narrators are for the most part up to the task of clearly articulating these academic essays full of technical theological language. There are a few words that they consistently pronounce incorrectly (including "theologians"). This distracts somewhat from the content of the essays.

Keep in mind this is a teaching series

Would you consider the audio edition of Dreaming with God: Co-laboring with God for Cultural Transformation to be better than the print version?

I didn't realize when I bought the book that it was a teaching series, I thought it was one of his books. However this series is wonderful and the Holy Spirit struck a chord with me as I listened to it straight through on a long bus ride. Bill Johnson is an amazing teacher, full of wisdom and understanding. This is well worth the listen.

I am happy I decided to purchase this audiobook. It sets itself apart from other apologetic books in its scope and personal stories. Mr. Madird is always charitable and lays out clear arguments.

Master Apologist

Would you listen to Envoy for Christ again? Why?

Yes. I have already started listening again. There is so much information and apologetic techniques that once just isn't enough.

What other book might you compare Envoy for Christ to and why?

Anything by Scott Hahn or Peter Kreeft.

What about Patrick Madrids performance did you like?

It is very conversational in tone, and it is obvious that Madrid strongly believes in the subject matter as he reads his own words with passion and conviction.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed his insight into Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses.

Any additional comments?

This is a truly excellent account of Madrid's life as a Catholic apologist. It's one part autobiography and one part how-to book. Madrid offers up the very entertaining details of his early years as an apologist and shares many stories "from the road" of his various speeches, debates, and random interactions with non-Catholics over the years. He gives fantastic accounts of his many encounters ranging from formalized debates at Protestant churches, to his shocking invitation to door-to-door Mormons to come inside his house for a chat. Madrid is an expert apologist and I found myself impressed with his vast and varied knowledge of scripture, as well as his rapid retorts when others try (and ultimately fail) to use scripture against him.I have already started listening to this audio book a second time in the hopes that some of his techniques (and brilliance) will sink into my subconscious. This audio book is recommended to anyone who has ever heard the Catholic faith attacked, but hasn't felt equipped to defend it.

Patrick Madrid is a highly intelligent person, and there lies the problem. The average person is not going to understand what he is talking about.

It sounded like a lawyer reading a legal document, it just went on and on. I listened to the first 3 hours and gave up.

Wish I hadnt wasted my money on this!

Excellent in every respect. I will listen to this book again and again, and I look forward to more of Patrick Madrid's books on Audible.

Great Food for the Soul

This is the perfect short audiobook to give you wonderful spirit food to get through a tough time where your health is concerned. It's also great for combatting ailments before they even start by offering some powerful scriptures to shore up your faith.

In today's crazy world, you really need more than Western medicine to keep your body whole and there's NO GREATER medicine than that of Almighty God. I think anyone could enjoy this audiobook. If you listen to the sample, focus on the words she's sharing. That's what I did and it moved me greatly.

I decided to purchase the audio book over printable version and I didn't regret it. I enjoy listening these powerful healing scriptures every night before sleep, because they calm me down and give me hope. Scriptures are very inspirational and narrators voice is very relaxing and crystal clear (which is very important to me because I am not a native English). I recommend this audio book to anyone who wants to enrich their prayer life.

It is honest and real, but written lovingly. It is not judgmental or hateful toward those who might have an opposing position.

What did you like best about this story?

It is very informative and detailed. He talks about the history of the movement, lots of information (for those who apparently knew nothing, such as myself!), and biblical basics for supporting the LGBT community. I thought I was supportive, but you need to KNOW about the issues in order to really be supportive. Now I feel like I can better support family members who are struggling to tell others about their preferences, and begin to advocate for them in the community. Before I read this book, I did not really even know the major issues with allowing civil unions versus marriage. Now I know, and I am telling everyone to read this book!

I love that Ed Bacon gives examples of each habit and how you can implement them into your life.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 8 Habits of Love?

The sections of forgiveness and candid conversations resonated deeply with me. I felt he explained the importance of learning these habits very well and allowed me to examine where I feel challenged.

Even better than the paperback!

Reading the book changed my life, but there is nothing like hearing Rev. Bacon narrate it. This is one of my favorite books of all-time.

A Christian book where Christ is hard to find

Would you try another book from Ed Bacon and/or Ed Bacon?

NO more Ed Bacon books....If you like a book that seems to state lets just sit by camp file and love each other..and nobody is right and nobody is wrong..then this is the book for you. Almost halfway into the book and christ was nowhere to be found yet. Somehow this book is in Christian section..dont get it? Ed seems very new age to me.

after adjusting my ears to the sharp British accent of the narrator I loved it! great way to present the story of Jesus!

Mr Davidson's voice was mega annoying...I mean who doesn't like an English accent but ....this particular regional accent was tough. I'm sure he'd feel the same about mine. The upside is Pollock sews together the gospels and moved the ball fwd for my understanding of the greatest sacrifice ever told. So if you're lazy like me - buy this and Pollocks other work on Paul (which is fantastic)
