Abbey's prior accomplishments in battles are recognized when she gains an opportunity to lead a field expedition. Plenty of action in this story to keep anyone's interest.

Mixed results as Guy Antibes seeks to find worthy challenges for his powered up boy hero
What to do with a powered up hero? Give him bigger challenges. And maybe a girlfriend.
    Some spoilers.
In this third installment of the Disinherited Prince our young hero, Pol, is sent to infiltrate and report on the secretive and sinister school of magic the Tesna Monastery. Pol will have to pretend to be a young, untrained student and avoid being found out by the other students or staff. He'll have to blend in perfectly, avoid calling attention to himself and not use more magic or ability than the boy he's impersonating has. So, of course, Pol barely bothers to act like the person he's supposed to be, is never questioned on it, uses "sips of magic" frequently and is never caught out by the staff - this in spite of the fact that the Abbott and the monks are experts at mind control and compulsion and are much more experienced than Pol.
I was prepared for another youth academy book, this time with Pol in disguise, but still having to go through the whole process, all under the constant tension of being caught out. Instead the monks of Tesna are pathetically easy for Pol to fool, in spite of his lazy execution of the plan. The monks don't even rise to the level of being the Washington Generals (the talented theatrical basketball team who's job is to always loose to the Harlem Globetrotters). The real power of the monks is their ability to cast compulsion on *thousands* of people to turn them into mindless soldiers, yet that is the one ability we never actually see them use. Other than that, the monks are terrible at fighting, and pathetic at magic. A very disappointing villain.
Pol is also given a love interest, literately put right in his room at Tesna. Another spy in disguise. But she's a talented, cool magical girl spy from a mysterious country and there are plenty of hints she might be a princess. And there are no other girls to speak of. So it's good that Pol and Shro hit it off so well. And kind of way too convenient plot wise. Kind of lazy and contrived, really. But not awful.
Overall I enjoyed this book. It may be the most even of the series so far. And while I was looking forward to a magic academy book, the adventures in the field Guy Antibes gives us instead were good, too. Giving us a chance for more characters from the past to be brought into the story. And, much to my good cheer, there is no vague all encompassing villain in the story - no being of evil, inexplicably inimical to life. I find such villains boring, and I hope that the series continues to have *people* as villains not "Evil".
excellent writing, with editing and proofreading at a solidly professional level
This was my favorite read of the series. As usual for Guy Antibes, the book was well edited and proofread.

    Nevernight - Marmite?
First the disclaimer . . . I only made it three and a half hours into this one so maybe I missed out on something . . . The odd thing is that after half an hour I thought I was on to something a bit special. The opening is dark and brutal. There is a passage describing two very different "first-time" experiences for Mia that I thought were brilliantly written. Bold, almost shocking writing that I thought was very powerful and told in parallel it came over as very original too. There were also some hard-hitting scenes about Mia and her family when she is ten years old.
At this point I was really looking forwards to carrying on. Then the book developed into the more humorous style that was to follow. Suddenly this strong, hard-bitten and motivated character became a typical cliché fantasy heroine albeit with a touch of Lisbet Salander. What developed was a Hitch Hiker's Guide but for fantasy format with background stories interspersed into the narrative - though it never descends to the glorious silliness of those books! There was a discussion on the merits of the c-word and while I'm no prude the unrelenting clever humour just seemed to grate. It was unrelenting.
So, I think we have a clever writer of some talent but I'm just not on his wavelength and I just didn't buy into the characters. Others I suspect may well love it and with Audible's goodreads guarantee what is there to lose?
    Excellent book.
When I first started this book I was a bit is this something I will enjoy ? It then got better and better and had twists that I didnt see coming, a rarity for me. Superbly read. Already downloaded book two. A must for those who like a gripping fantasy.
    Fantastic
Great narration of a fantastic story. If you enjoy Joe Abercrombie you will love this.
    dope story
when you think it's going to follow the same old story trope, you take a left turn in to something fresh and fun.
    awesome
about as compelling a listen as an audiobook comes. I really could not recommend enough.

A delightful and engrossing fantasy debut featuring an intelligent heroine and her guardian, a royal musketeer.
Caelum is an uninhabitable gas giant like Jupiter. High above it are the Risen Kingdoms, occupying flying continents called cratons. Remnants of a shattered world, these vast disks of soaring stone may be a thousand miles across. Suspended by magic, they float in the upper layers of Caelum's clouds.
Born with a deformed hand and an utter lack of the family's blood magic, Isabelle is despised by her cruel father. She is happy to be neglected so she can secretly pursue her illicit passion for math and science. Then, a surprising offer of an arranged royal marriage blows her life wide open and launches her and Jeane-Claude on an adventure that will take them from the Isle des Zephyrs in l'Empire Céleste to the very different Kingdom of Aragoth, where magic deals not with blood but with mirrors.

    Great read
Really enjoyed reading this, if you are a fan of Zelda this is a must read!
    Five Stars
    Great children's book
An adventure that will thrill children who will want to read more
I doubt that there are many if any children who will not be entertained, even thrilled, by reading this somewhat humorous action-filled adventure about likeable 19-year-old Link. Link worked for his dad on a farm and was bored with tending sheep and milking cows. One day he slipped and spilled milk, and without thinking walked away from the farm. All he took with him was a rather strange triangular stone that he had found. The stone felt warm, as if it wanted to tell him something. Then it became hot. Link dropped it, and it fell into a hole in the ground that fit it perfectly.
The ground opened. Link saw a stairs and went down. He came to a temple where he saw a sword imbedded in a stone. A sign in front of it said, he who pulls out the sword will become âthe Hero of Time.â He realized that if he failed to pull out the sword, he would be killed. So he ran back to his village.
As he approached, he saw that demon warriors were destroying his village. He ran back to the templeâ.
Children will be thrilled to hear what happens next. How he was able to get the sword. How the relic became embedded in his hand. How there were actually three relics and the evil demon had one. How he fought against the demons. How this was only the beginning of his adventures. What he found out about Zelda who had the third relic, and much more.
    Good story
It needs quite a bit of editing, but if you don't mind reading a good story in its rough form, it is worth reading for Zelda fanatics.
The author has some real talent, but he needs to get an editor who will coach and edit his works to make an ok rough work into a real gem of a book.

    Publisher's Summary:
In this dark and gripping debut fantasy that Miles Cameron called "gritty and glorious!" the exiled son of the king must fight to reclaim his throne no matter the cost.
It is the richest empire the world has ever known, and it is also doomed. Governed by an imposturous emperor, decadence has blinded its inhabitants to their vulnerability. The Yellow Empire is on the verge of invasion - and only one man can see it.
Haunted by prophetic dreams, Orhan has hired a company of soldiers to cross the desert to reach the capital city. Once they enter the palace, they have one mission: kill the emperor, then all those who remain. Only from the ashes can a new empire be built.
The company is a group of good, ordinary soldiers for whom this is a mission like any other. But the strange boy Marith who walks among them is no ordinary soldier. Young, ambitious, and impossibly charming, something dark hides in Marith's past - and in his blood.
Dark and brilliant, dive into this new fantasy series for listeners looking for epic battle scenes, gritty heroes, and blood-soaked revenge.
    Members Reviews:
    Beautiful prose, beautifully narrated.
This book is so well written. The imagery. Ermagherd, the imageryyyyy. The setting just came to life in my head as I listened. So gritty and real. Im not sure anything I can tell you about it is going to do it justice. The prose is absolutely beautiful, but wooooow does it describe a grim world.
This was one of those audiobooks that I turned on, and then just did not turn off until it was done. Its about 16 and a half hours long, so, I started it in the morning and just listened. Listened through dinner. Listened throughout the evening. Listened while getting ready for bed. Just sat there sometimes, with (I can only assume) a stupid AF look on my face while just listening. Always listening. Its one of those.
We start off following a mercenary band who are on their way to Sorlost, which is something like the biggest, most important city in this world. Its where the emperor lives, and these mercenaries have been hired to assassinate him. We see things from the POV of the mercenary bands leader sometimes, and from the newest recruit at other times. Right off the bat, theyre attacked in the desert by a dragon. Yep, this book has dragons. Badass AF dragons with boiling acid for blood. Marith, the pretty boy who can just sort of use a sword slays this dragon and thats not even the most surprising thing about him. Oh no. No, no, no. There are quite a lot of surprising things about him, as we find out.
This book gets daaaark. Anna Smith Spark is known as the Queen of Grimdark for a very good reason, ladies and gents. This book, on more than one occasion, had me just blinking and uttering a soft daaaamn to nobody in particular. This happened most especially around a lot of Mariths escapades. Ive read a lot of dark stories but this one definitely sways to the darker side of things, while not being completely grim. Thalia, for example, seems to generally enjoy her life as the high priestess, at least at the beginning of the story, despite having to do some messed up things. Necessary things, to her. She has never known otherwise. Sometimes you have to do necessary things, even if they are unpleasant.

The second book is as good as the first.
A Dragon king, a princess and a guardian try to get rid of the shadow. A great second book. I would like another. I received this audio book for free at my request and voluntarily reviewed.
A complex, political fantasy full of battles, betr
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you enjoyed the first, you're bound to enjoy this true epic.
What did you like best about this story?
Races ally and yet bicker, fight together and against one another. With more politics and intrigue than the first, answered questions lead to more mystery in this well developed world.
Did Dave Cruse do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?
Whilst it took me a while to get used to the narrator, it's not a bad narration and the story is certainly strong enough to keep this a solid 4* book!
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Intrigue.
    Any additional comments?
I'd say this sequel is as strong as the debut (which is always a worry when I start a series) and leaves me wanting to know what happens next as lines are drawn under some big events, only to reveal more mischief on the horizon for our 'goodies' and 'baddies' (it's pretty grey on the old moral scale in there, to be fair).

    Really immersive listen!
This is a tale of not only an assassins apprentice, but a young one in a sort of coming-of age story. Its not the first story of this type that Ive ever read, but it is definitely a good one to add to my mental collection.
Girton is the apprentice to Merela Karn, a master assassin. Perhaps the best assassin in all the land. This land has been poisoned by magic, and so food is scarce and magic is outlawed. More than outlawed, its pretty much anathema. Girton is mage-bent- he was born with a club foot, thought to be something like the result of the remnants of the poisonous magic in the land. Despite his disability, hes quite skilled as an assassin and as a jester. He doesnt at all let his club foot stop him from being awesome. Merela took him in as a child rather than let him continue to be a slave, and raised him as her apprentice. I cheered for Girton, because there is something about him that instantly made him likable. I really liked Merela too, because while she is a master assassin, and is often likely to be harsh with Girton, you know she does care very deeply for him all the same. Its rather heartwarming, really.
Theyre hired to come to the castle, obviously as assassins, but also obviously not exactly for an assassination, and it turns out the queen, an old acquaintance of Merelas, would like to hire them as professional assassins, but only to catch another assassin who is after her son, the heir to the throne. So, to catch an assassin, use an assassin- a really good tagline to use here. Girton is set up in the castle as the son of a minor noble, there to be trained in swordplay. So, he, a boy who has quite a lot of martial skill, has to pretend to have absolutely no martial skill whatsoever, while he and his master try to unravel the mystery of who would possibly try to assassinate the queens son (other than everyone, because the queens son is a giant tool).
This story is told mostly in the first person, from Girtons POV, with the exception of a few interludes, which are usually in the third person, told as dreams, and tell a little of Girtons childhood and how he came to be with his master.

Mathan wants him to break a powerful sorceress out of jail, but her prison is under the control of an ancient military order called the Magisterium. well-planned well-paced fantasy book
this book has everything you can hope for from a classic fantasy book. a well paced gripping story, A variation of characters, cool magic system with slight steampunk elements to it.
even though I never heard about the narrator he did a splendid job
highly recommended for any fantasy lover.
    Fun Story, Amazing Narrator
What made the experience of listening to The Reach Between Worlds the most enjoyable?
The narration was fantastic. With so many characters and voices and accents in the book Pirhalla performed it incredibly well. Real joy to listen to this book. Most importantly Reach was a very good first book by Hayden. Not your normal book of magic. It's full of twists and turns and surprises that are weaved into the story quite well. Hayden gets a crucial element that many writers don't get...make your reader root for and care for your characters. He has accomplished this. Even smaller characters are fleshed out well and it really adds to the entire world created in Reach. This is one you'll want to listen to as opposed to reading. Can't wait to hear book 2.
Overall, this was a promising story
The Reach Between Worlds by C.M Hayden is the first book in the series called The Archlight Saga. Taros parents are really sick and so he must resort to unsavory dealings with a crime lord to try to make some money to afford their medicine and to support the family. As a part of this, Taro and his sister are suddenly thrust into a complex plot that starts with Taro and his sister entering the Magistarium to learn magic, and also break out a prisoner. The crime lord and the prisoner stand starkly against the Magisterium and what it stands for, leaving Taro in the middle. However, as Taro starts to truly become a part of the Magistarium and make friends, he begins to waver on his loyalties. As the stakes get higher, Taro must decide which side of the fight he wants to be on.
Overall, this was a promising story. A young boy whos caught between good and evil and in the meantime enters a school to learn magic. And the teachers pitted against this prisoner who escapes and everything hinges on Taros actions. Unfortunately, I didnt feel compelled by any of the characters and many of them felt similar enough that I had a hard time remembering who was who. I was also a little confused about how everything worked, from the magic to the arc light itself, that powers the city.
