From acclaimed director and producer Kieth Merrill comes an epic, high fantasy saga and the quest to fulfill a prophecy.
A thousand years ago, the Navigator crossed the great deep in ships lit with 16 stones touched by Oum'ilah, the God of Gods. Over time the stones were scattered, and a prophecy arose declaring that a "child of no man" would gather them again, obtain immortality, and reign forever as god and king of Candelarr. Two religious groups have sprung up around the prophecy, each with its own champion.
The sorceress of the cult of she-dragon has chosen Drakkor, a warrior and mercenary. After surviving a series of rigorous tests to prove his worth, he is given one of the stones and begins his quest to fulfill the prophecy. He swears to return all 16 stones to the sorceress, but the truth is he will let nothing stop him from claiming immortality for himself.
The Oracle of Oum'ilah has placed his faith in Ashar, a young postulant studying the Way of the Navigator on the Mountain of God. But when Ashar discovers he is a direct descendant of the Navigator himself, the Oracle reveals that it is his destiny to fulfill the prophecy and reunite the 16 stones for good. But he must hurry before Drakkor claims the stones and corrupts them.
Meanwhile, miles away, a slave named Ereon Qhuin dreams of freedom. Abandoned at birth, his only possession is a strange stone that his mentor, the blacksmith Rusthammer, promises is the key to Qhuin's destiny and freedom.
A mercenary, a postulant, and a slave - which one is truly the child of prophecy?

    All Together Good
As usual Tim Gerard Reynolds brought the characters to life flawlessly keeping the story flowing even at it's slower moments. The story was good if not a little slow from time to time, definitely one of the better books I've found on audible.
    Good story. Ended abrupt.
The story concept was interesting. Narration by the T. J. Reynolds was superb as usual. I had to rewind many times to keep track of the different characters. Even though I know this is the first installment of the series, it ended abruptly, just when you got all the back stories of the main characters. I will however, listen to the following books when available.
    just kept reading
all the way believe that the story started slowly. I was intrigued as it went along and now I'm anxious to read the following books
    Great first book
Good story line so far I'm sure the second book will be even better... again Tim Reynolds delivers another great reading!!!
    Great story well reas
exciting and interesting characters with a number of i expected turns hard to stop listening.

    Publisher's Summary:
In A Sea of Shields, Gwendolyn gives birth to her and Thorgrin's child, amidst powerful omens. With a son born to them, Gwendolyn and Thorgrin's lives are changed forever, as is the destiny of the Ring. Thor is tasked with rebuilding the Legion. He deepens his training with Argon, and he is given an honor greater than he ever dreamed of when he is inducted into the Silver and becomes a Knight. Before departing the Ring to find his mother, Thor prepares first for his wedding with Gwendolyn. But events coincide which might just get in the way.
Gwendolyn is reeling from the birth of her son, the imminent departure of her husband, and the death of her mother. The Ring gathers for the royal funeral, which brings together the estranged sisters, Luanda and Gwendolyn, in one final confrontation that will have dire implications. Argon's prophecies ring in her head, and Gwendolyn feels a looming danger to the Ring, and furthers her plans to rescue all of her people from catastrophe.
Erec receives news of his father's illness, and is summoned back home, to the Southern Isles; Alistair joins him on the journey, as their wedding plans are put in motion. Kendrick seeks out his long-lost mother, and is shocked at who he finds. Conven returns to his hometown to find things are not what he expects, and he falls deeper into mourning. Steffen unexpectedly finds love, while Sandara surprises Kendrick by wanting to leave the Ring for her homeland in the Empire. Reece, despite himself, falls in love with his cousin, and when Tirus' sons find out, they set in motion a great treachery.
A tragedy of misunderstanding ensues, and a war threatens to erupt in the Ring and the Upper Isles due to Reece's inflamed passions. The McCloud side of the Highlands are equally unstable, with a civil war on the verge of breaking out. Romulus, in the Empire, discovers a new form of magic which may just destroy the Shield for good. He forges a deal with the dark side and, emboldened with a power that not even Argon can stop, Romulus initiates a sure way to destroy the Ring.
With its sophisticated world-building and characterization, A Sea of Shields is an epic tale of friends and lovers, of rivals and suitors, of knights and dragons, of intrigues and political machinations, of coming of age, of broken hearts, of deception, ambition, and betrayal. It is a tale of honor and courage, of fate and destiny, of sorcery. It is a fantasy that brings us into a world we will never forget, and which will appeal to all ages and genders.

    Sorcerers Ring Series
I absolutely love this series. I have read them all and being able to listen to them again and again is a joy.
    The reader is fabulous!
I just bought book 11 and can't wait to listen to the entire series.
I have read some reviews that nitpick at little errors but those little errors don't take away the value of the full picture.
I love travelling through these realms and enjoying the adventures.
It's a fantasy series and I love the characters and the different worlds they travel through on their various quests.
It never gets old for me! I love it, the kids love it! I hate to see it end.
    Thank you Morgan Rice!

I loved this book. I enjoyed seeing the story of Helen in a new light.
    Helen of Sparta
Excellent mythical storyline, easy to follow and very intriguing. I recently took an online course about mythology and this book brought the characters that I ?earned about to life. I rreally have enjoyed the audio.
    Reader has an annoying delivery.
I just started this book, but so far I am unimpressed. The reader puts a sob in her voice in the most boring of passages raising everything to high drama. If the delivery improves, I will change my rating.

Mortally wounded during a raid, 17-year-old Ilyenna is healed by winter fairies who present her with a seductive offer: become one of them and share their power over winter. Doing so will allow her to defeat Darrien and the other invaders, but if she embraces winter, she will lose herself to that destroying power - forever.

    Captivating!!
What an intense and heartbreaking read. I finished this a week ago and had to take that length of time to gather my thoughts.
First off, let's take a moment to stare at that gorgeous cover!! Isn't it stunning. Even before you read the blurb, you will want to read this. Lol. Anyway, back to the review.
I loved this book, though it did break my heart numerous times.
Character wise, we have a lot of them but I'll focus on the main 2 and the villian.
Ilyenna is a clan mistress for the Shyle Clan. She never wanted the responsibility but has no choice but to step up to the role. I loved that Ilyenna was so willing to do whats needed for her clan, no matter what. Despite being so young and her reservations, she is a worthy mistress. My heart absolutely shattered for her and what she went through at the hands of Darrien, yet no matter what, she stayed strong and wouldn't bend. I loved her strength and tenacity.
Rone is a childhood friend of Ilyennas brother and she always had a crush on him. When they meet again, Rone becomes something of her protector and she relies on him. I also loved Rone. He is so strong, brave and loyal. He is also a captive and does what he can to ease the suffering of his clan and also Ilyennas clan.
The villian of the piece is Darrien. Now I have never hated a character as much as I hated him. Don't get me wrong, I loved the book but loathed him. I wanted to jump into the story and give him a taste of his own medicine. He was a brute and a beast. He treated women as nothing, lower than the low. He beat them, took advantage of them and was just an all round animal. He is pure evil and I hated him!! He is one of the worst, vilest characters I've ever read. It's a testimony to Ambers writing that even though I despised the character, I adored the book. He is there to be hated and she in no way makes him other than what he is.
Plot wise, it was amazing. Absolutely gripping. One clan attacks another and the Shyle go to help. The clan that attacked come to the Shyle village because they say that they attacked first. They take Tiams (slaves) from the village but Ilyenna refuses to let any of her clan suffer. The other clan chief says that if Ilyenna comes in their stead then the village and people will be left alone.

Good set-up for Series for Jharro Grove
What did you like best about Tarah Woodblade? What did you like least?
Tarah has a very unique personality. She generally is an introverted person and begins to evolve as a character throughout the story. This is Post-war and Tarah finding her place.
Would you recommend Tarah Woodblade to your friends? Why or why not?
If they were to start the Jharro Grove Saga, then yes. This is a biography and set-up for Tarah and to tie her into the universe.
Have you listened to any of Andrew Tells other performances before? How does this one compare?
Andrew Tell is good as ever.
Did Tarah Woodblade inspire you to do anything?
Make a moonrat armor and wield a Jharro Staff. :)
    Any additional comments?
FYI: Jhustan doesn't show up until the Epilogue. Book 2 of Jharro Grove Saga has 3 stories going on. One of which is the continuation of Tarah Woodblade and her further growth of skills and character.
    feel good well written yarn
no crazy mind blowing twists but great writing in a world we come to love
a great story with a great ending
I enjoyed the fact that this brought in new characters from the bowl of Souls world. Trevor offers immense character depth when it comes to each of character traits, so you feel like each of the characters are fully fleshed out with a very interesting background. Each of Trevor's components to a story offer the breadth of what you expect from any interesting fantasy action novels. I had a very high hopes for the story especially from what the previous books offered and I definitely wasn't let down.
Tarah, a Dwarf, and a Red Staff Adventure
Would you listen to Tarah Woodblade again? Why?
Terah Woodblade is the sixth book in the The Bowl of Souls series and the first book in the The Jharro Grove saga, however it is the first book I have read in the series. Because this was my entry into the series, there were a few plot items I believe I missed had I read the previous five books. The author does a good job of providing enough backstory to assist readers with some high-level details to better understanding events from the earlier books. After reading this book, I will defiantly go back and read the others in the series; I enjoyed it that much. It is cliché, but I would say that you can judge this book by its cover, both are great.
Fantasy is one of my favorite book genres, but I have often stuck to more traditional or contemporary fantasy books written by authors like Brandon Sanderson. I was unsure what to expect from this book as it appeared to be more fantasy focused. Wow is all I can say after finishing the book. It exceeded all my expectations and it had me engaged from start to finish. The pace of the story was well done and at no time did I feel I wanted to skim over sections to get past slow periods. The author is able to tell a great adventure story by including flashbacks, dream sequences, and even a few twists and surprises.

    another awesome book
I must say I did not believe that they could get any better than the first book. The first book was awesome I thought it was an incredible story I love the characters I loved everything about the first book. However after reading the second book I felt that this book actually might be a little better if not it's just as good. Bravo
Dont know why I waited so long
What did you like best about this story?
The author uniquely references certain songs in the story, and when I listened to the songs while reading the book it really pulled me into the story. The author also throws in references to different anime that only anime fans will get.
Which character as performed by Carla Mercer-Meyer was your favorite?
    Sophia
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A must for all anime fans, and on par with any of the Marvel movies
    Still a Good Series
I love the premise in this series and especially love the main character, who is equal parts strong, clever, and sassy. The story got off the rails a few times with the introduction of a great deal more characters. However, by the end it all wrapped up nicely and I'll be looking forward to book 3.
Love this feminist perspective of a superhero
The first book was ok as it had a lot of cliches in the plot and dialogue. I still enjoyed it and was hoping the second book would cover new ground and it did. The narrator was very good and the story was entertaining and absorbing. I look forward to a third book.
    best in class
this is a excellent series. great character development and story structure. the dbz reference was priceless. thank you to the author and performance. excellent.

Once you get past the weirdness it gets good!
Where does City of Light rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This one started out weird for me. Post-apocalyptic world check; Shifters check, vampires check; Tiger, thats where we get weird. She is a genetically engineered déchet, or super soldier, made during the war between humans and shifters. She is the last of her kind, and has been hiding in the remains of the military bunker; she is the lone survivor. She lives in the bunker with ghosts she can talk to and treats them as family. This is where the story almost lost me. Oh, and because of the destruction from the war, there are now rifts in reality; beings from other dimensions are pouring into our world. Did I also mention Tiger is over 100 years old? Yep weird.
Im glad I didnt give up in the first few chapters, as I wanted to do. I was like WTF is this? In this world vampires are raging beast driven by their blood lust; this saved the story for me. They are monsters that ravage and destroy, live in darkness, and can become darkness. No sparkly sissys here! This story is about Tiger; she is really a bad ass chick, yet she also has a huge heart. Shes stuck in a world where people fear and hate her kind, making it necessary to hide, and blend in, for fear of discovery.
Arthur has set this first story up perfectly; I love Tiger for her bravery and her heart. Readers will want her happy and accepted for who she is, in this world that hates her. I cant wait for book two. City of Light is a fast paced, thrilling story that that leaves readers wanting more. You just have to get through and absorb the initial weirdness....Sara
The best of sci-fi and fantasy
What did you love best about City of Light?
Most? It's impossible to say, because I loved everything about this book. Tiger, the ghosts, the world...all of it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love Tiger. She's tough and capable, but also self-aware and caring. Her character is very well-devoloped and she makes for an amazing heroine...even if she's reluctant to be one!
Which character as performed by Mia Barron was your favorite?
Mia Barron voices everyone very well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    It absolutely was!
    A Wonderful Story
I hated this to end. I can't wait for the next book. the reader was great and brought the characters to life.
    Wow! This one is good
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
    Absolutely recommend.

    Not for me
Listening to Ever Fire, book 2, without reading or listening to book 1 was a mistake. I had a problem keeping my head straight about some of the characters and happenings. Alexia Purty is a good writer so maybe I'll go back and start with book 1. Nancy Peterson always has a great voice for narration and this one is no different!
I was given this audio book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
    Awesome urban fantasy
I'm enjoying this series very much. I'll read just about any urban fantasy, but this one is quickly becoming a fav. Dark and a little bit angsty, just how I like it.
The narrator gave a good performance. Very well done.

    Fairies aren't my thing
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
If you like fairy stories AND you read the books in order you'll probably like this book.
Would you ever listen to anything by Alexia Purdy again?
    Yes
    Everfire
I liked this sequel to Evershade. It did seem to be lacking in some areas, but overall it was decent. There was an ongoing repetitive quality and I think the book would've benefitted from additional development of the secondary characters. Despite this, I will be reading the next book in the series because I am interested in seeing where it leads.

For just a moment, things seem to be under control for the soldier known as Breq. Then a search of Atheok Station's slums turns up someone who shouldn't exist - someone who might be an ancillary from a ship that's been hiding beyond the empire's reach for three thousand years.

Anaander is heavily armed and extremely unhappy with Breq. She could take her ship and crew and flee, but that would leave everyone at Athoek in terrible danger. Breq has a desperate plan. The odds aren't good, but that's never stopped her before.

    Please don't stop there
I loved this third book in the series, and hope Ann Leckie does not stop there. I am wishing for inspiration to strike and more books in the series. Also Adjoa Andoh's reading of the series has been stellar. I have loved her intimacy and character voices. Many thanks to you both.
First book was great, second- OK, third- cozy
The first book of the series introduced a number of novel and powerful concepts, such as ancillaries, multi-body AIs, multi-body 'humans', disregard for physical gender. The highly unusual main character and how her nature was revealed gradually made for a great read. I would certainly rate it at 5 stars if I had Ancillary Justice on the Audible.
The following two books of the series make for a cozy read where domestic routines take centre stage and it is hard to take any plot developments seriously. Glimpses of the Radj Space culture provided in the first book are not developed any further, so we are stuck with the endless references to tea drinking. The third book introduces a number of new curious characters and resolves in a more or less satisfying way, making it second best to the first.
    5* Science Fiction
This is standout SF read by a standout narrator -- a pure pleasure throughout the trilogy.
    brilliant in every way
with all three books and especially this last one, i really tried hard to ration myself. The more I read, the less I had to look forward to.
Characters and plot were excellent and the reader was superb. Friends who regard audio books with a certain distaste will never know the force and depth that a reader like Adjoa Andoh brings to the text.
All in all a month or so of absolute pleasure.
Disney ending. not living up to build up.
meh, did not enjoy as much as 1st or second skipped last 2 minutes entirely. culmination of the struggle was disappointing. all awe and respect centered on a single character for no apparent reason given intercharacter history. whole Vendaai and Breq dynamics are understandable -ish the rest are not
