This book is worth reading if just for the final action in the final chapter! Rhapsody's character is developing interestingly as well.

Fantastic story!

Narrator uses excessive flourish With each sentence, but does great Grunthor voice! The only saving grace was the pull of the story itself, wish I had another option for narrator.

Love this series

Overall it's a great read/listen. The writer does get repetitive about things I consider unimportant fairly often. She is clearly writing from a feminist perspective. But I do enjoy the story despite that.

I think this one is my favorite of the series!! Kyle is awesome and never disappoints with his narration.

If you want to slip the fetters of this world and just enjoy another, this book is for you.

irritating

i was more interested in mykels story rather than dainyls but sadly this book is mostly about dainyl. for every 3-4 chapters of dainyls story there was 1 chapter for mykel. i found it an irritating rather than satisfactory end to the trilogy. i never liked dainyl all that much so finding the main character i did like pushed aside in the final book didn't make me very happy.

now i am really hesitating about reading the rest of the series. it seems like the further along it goes the more its about politics and backbiting and less about people i can relate to. it kind of sucks because i really liked legacies and darknesses (though scepters dragged a little).

He's done it again

I keep waiting for a book in this series to be mediocre but as usual Modesitt has produced another great read/listen.

Amazing world

After having reading 18 books in this world of chaos and order I still wish there were more!

Good Reader, Good Tale but...

The story is great, the characters sympatico and I'm so glad to have Kirby Hayborne back reading. His voice and Modesitt's stories go together in my mind. I went off the recluse books to a new setting with new reader and it didn't sit well. Kirby allows my imagination to get active--don't need the action shouted at me!

BUT..the but in the title is because of the author's choice of character names, especially concerning minor characters. Duke Kiedron and Duke Kesin, bitter enemies--- then also two important officers in the Afrit command: Drusin and Dresile!!! Come'on Modesitt!!!! Be kind to confused fans.

Another enjoyable epic of the series

I enjoyed the manner in which the story tied together at the end. In many ways it was what I was hoping would happen but they're not hope

This story is a superb deal with credit and well worth the money otherwise.

A fabulous story with good world building and character development. If you're familiar with the series this is one of the best. (Get even more out of it if you have read the order mage stories.)

This book is bizarre.

I didn't really know what to expect with this book. The author mixed up superheros, a couple of quests, and then added Parallel Universes and ended up with this story. I liked it, even though it's so bizarre, or maybe because it is bizarre. I think the target audience for this book is teen boys, but I enjoyed it, and I'm far from being a teen.The narrator takes some time getting use to, because she talks fast. I really liked some of the character voices. especially the Toad.

Exceptional series!

Narrator does a wonderful job of bringing Dalglish's world to life. This series was excellent, bringing to light all the events that set into motion the entirety of his other series. I will actually be re-reading (listening) to the half-orc series as Velixar is my favorite character!

Amusing Story

Short and amusing story. Sort of a zombie parody. The word grimace was used frequently and the narrator just could not say the word correctly. She kept saying gri-MCE with the emphasis on the second syllable and a long A, rather than GRÏ-mäce. It was rather disconcerting and detracted from the narration. Is this really how the British say the word?

Not What I Expected But Okay

What made the experience of listening to Humane Killer the most enjoyable?

The narrator was good and made the characters interesting. I don't guess I care for fantasy like this. I bought it because of Diana and her son but it isn't a story type that I like.

Would you recommend Humane Killer to your friends? Why or why not?

No. I think most of my friends would not like it.

Which character as performed by Jill Tanner was your favorite?

I liked the sorcerer but really none of the characters grabbed me. I found that it didn't really matter to me what happened to any of them. I was glad to see the dragon didn't die.

Nothing extremely good or bad. I'll try another book by Sam Sykes.

Tedious

I cant recognize Gabaldons touch in this book. I cant get past the opening scene. Ms Tanner does a good job with a boring text, however, its just way too tedious to keep me engaged.

This story just didn't hold my attention...Although I really wanted to support my favorite author and her son... Perhaps I just need to hear it again...

A classic brought to life

I remember reading and enjoying this when it first went into print (a little while back in the 70's) so maybe I was expecting more, and whilst it's not bad it was not what i was exactly expecting. This maybe because due to reading the series several times in the past or the narrator.

Whilst the narrator is far from bad it took me a bit to get used to him, again this might be me and not a reflection on the narrator.

This series pretty much follows the standard fantasy formula but does it very well and does deviate from that formula in a witty and irreverent and you soon find yourself transported into a new world with its own rules and characters.

I would recommend this book and series to all who enjoy a good fantasy, this is also one of Dicksons better series at least in my opinion

At long last!

I read this book way back when. I enjoyed it immensely. I was hesitant about making this purchase. After all, did I remember it as well as I thought I did. Would the reader do the audio justice. Well I could only give this book 5 stars, that is the most I could give it. The story is a good as I remember it. I have listened to it twice before writing this review. Paul Boehmer's reading was excellent. His voice is well suited for the main character added to my enjoyment. I hope the rest of the series is as good.

What does Paul Boehmer bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

He attempts to have specific voices for some characters, but as the story progresses, he appears to either give up on some characters and make them sound like some others.... or wasn't interested in giving specific characters specific voices from the beginning. It does break immersion slightly and sometimes it makes it more difficult to remember who is talking to whom.

This book is so far unlike most young adult fantasy book series I have read and that is refreshing to me.
