Book 2 Just as Fun as Book 1!

I really recommend this series very highly to anyone who enjoys fantasy. A little like old Piers Anthony from my teen years, these books are fun. Goofy situations, hilarious dialogue, disastrous screw-ups, friendships tested, romances awkwardly fumbled for, etc...

This is kind of an Oceans Eleven meets Star Trek Next Gen... Fun!

Non-stop swashbuckling fun and surprises

First of all, Justine Eyre was incredible in both The Prophecy Con and its predecessor, The Palace Job. I have no idea how she can provide distinct voices/accents/personalities for so many characters, both male and female, human and fantasy. But she does, and so convincingly that I more often thought I was listening to a movie rather than having a book read to me.

The story, while seemingly a classic tale of good vs. evil, has so many twists and turns, there's no way even the most savvy reader can guess what is coming up next. Nothing is quite what it seems on the surface. I am sure there will be critics who will state that the fights are too far-fetched and that many of the events are not sufficiently explained. I have always felt that the reason for reading a good fantasy is to escape to a world where the impossible is possible, where the good guys win against all odds, and where strength of heart can overcome physical weakness. Otherwise, what's the point of fantasy?

There is a lot of violence, but it's more of a swashbuckling type than graphic and gorey. There's some sexual innuendo and a smattering of foul language, but nothing overly offensive, probably just enough that I won't be passing this book to my 13 year old son to read.

I am tucking both this book and The Palace Job away to read again and am very much hoping that we have not heard the last from Patrick Weekes and The Rogues of the Republic!

Good

I still like the majority of the gang but this time around I wasn't as entertained as the first time. I agree with other reviewers that note how the characters can always predict every single thing that will occur during battles they're fighting for the first time.

Great book... Sound editing was annoying

I'm enjoying this series a lot. The book was great can't wait for another. I laughed so hard when she admitted to wearing a decapitated head she was studying, on top of hers when no one was there. That moment sticks out.

Narrator is good, but whoever cut it up and put 7-10 second pauses between each damn thought needs a smack to the head. It was very distracting. I thought the app shut off a couple times when she just stopped talking... Nope. Just bad editing. A lot of times you'd hear the narrator swallow in those pauses, also.

I still listened and finished it happily. I would still recommend.

Series is growing on me.

Can a demon learn to curb her darker side? Sam does have a hard time with this, she just wants to have fun, but the angels, demons, elves and humans keep demanding her time, energy, and blood. If it can go wrong, it will. This book isn't quite as funny as the last book, but the boom stick part was my favorite. The world building is intriguing and events have spiraled out of control for Sam, plus her to do list keeps getting longer and longer. This series is not for everyone. There are a few distasteful parts that could turn you off the story, luckily the plot gets better over time and this story is about a demon. I did end up listening to the story on fast speed because the narrator was so slow that it drove me nuts. I normally can ignore the narrator flaws, all but being slow this puts me to sleep.

Love it-give me the next one....

What did you love best about Elven Blood?

I love that this FEMALE demon is straight forward, frank and to the point. As a different species she sees things in a simple and more logic way, which reminds me of European cultures. No fluff, no read between the lines or 'take a hint'...just straight to the point!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Elven Blood?

I loved the more detailed introduction of her foster-brother and sister demons, which made them more relateable as well. Already love Sam the way she is by now but now we also enjoy the different layers of skill and talent of her demon siblings. And of course, love the pure and simple romance they have going where I often forget that they are different species and yet the beauty of that shines through as well!

What does Angela Rysk bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I just love that 1. they picked someone new for this series, 2. totally different to other readers....I admit I had to get used to her in the first book but by the end I was hooked.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, absolutely! I could not get enough of it.

Better than the first one!

What did you love best about Sword of the Ronin?

I loved that David Radtke took the time to pronounce the Japanese words correctly. The time taken to make sure that the listener falls into the story is apparent. I hope he reads the final book when it comes out.

What did you like best about this story?

This was more information and action packed from the first one. Kenishi in the face of debauchery stands firm on his honor. Lesser men would have crumbled under such pain and despair. This book makes me believe that he is in fact Noble!

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the moment when Kenishi battled the Mongols. Silver Crane is legit and in the right hands not even the mammoth barbarians can stand up to it. He cleaved that chump in two.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The hardest part to listen to was when Kenishi was informed by his horse companion that little frog was in fact his son. As a father it struck home that he never truly got to hold his son as a son. This was such a sad terrible moment but as a device to spur our hero forward, effective.

Lets do this I am dying to hear book 3 Spirit of the Ronin.

My favorite of the trilogy

I have waited to review till I finshed the series and this part of the story with this narrator is the most engaging of the three. The other two are good too check um out! Book 1 Heart of the Ronin is a free podcast with a different narrator.

I really enjoyed the first audio book when narrated by the female, whose voice was calm and seemed to reflect the nature of the story. I'm sorry but this narrator has the strangest inflections and is unnecessarily theatrical.

A bit much like Got but lovely

Very fun and witty book and an excellent performance.

The creatures/universe seems a bit too similar to Game of Thrones but it's still quite awesome.

Fast-paced, funny and heartbreaking

Would you consider the audio edition of Prince of Fools to be better than the print version?

I do not know, since I have not read the print version, but Sean Ohlendorf brings the story to life in a magnificent way.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jalan and Snorri both. It is not possible to choose, since they contrast each other so well.

started good but not witty enough for me

the character set up was good but I soon bored of just two characters and the shallow storyline. Not a big zombie fan.

It's Broken - don't fix it!

As a big fan of Mark Lawrence Id already bought two copies of this in hardback, so I was hoping it would pass muster! The original Broken Empire trilogy formed my favourite fantasy novels over the past couple of years, so obviously I was hoping for something of as high a standard. Im happy to report Prince of Fools promises a second trilogy equally as strong.

The two main characters comprise a cowardly rogue Flashman type, coupled to a larger-than-life Viking warrior. The author manages to avoid creating the clichés these characters suggest they could become. Although there are plenty of amusing situations the novel is by no means the comedy Id been hearing it might be its still dark, though maybe a shade or two lighter than the Thorns trilogy. As in that series, it is pleasing to pick-up on the echoes of the builders world, plus its fun to get reacquainted with some familiar dramatis personae, albeit from a different angle. The plot rattles along at a fine gallop, coming to a satisfying ending, though by no means a conclusion. The prose is full of the trademark Lawrence aphorisms his past novels were crammed with. Narrator Sean Ohlendorf does a fine job BTW; it's not his fault if it's slightly jarring to hear characters from the first trilogy speaking with different voices this time around (Watch Me.....).

Should you read (hear) the previous trilogy first? I say yes, youll definitely enjoy this vastly more if you do and anyway, at this stage I still consider that trilogy unsurpassed.

FINALLY! IT'S OVER!

Tell me why this Sundering thing started again? Was it to bring back characters from R. A. Salvatore's dark elf series? Why were they killed again? Why were they brought back right after this book? I mean seriously none of this makes any sense to me!

This book is a good story, but you could tell what was going to happen before it happened. With this in mind there is no back story for the main characters or who all these gods are their talking about. If the author would stop telling readers what is coming as well as giving us a back story all of this would have made such a great story! Maybe the author should go back and do a pre-story which gives us the whole backstory on the main characters like who are the sisters?

Flawless victory....

Oh my God's....not only could I not stop listening (though I did sleep and work), I found myself wanting to know more about each character. Each of them needs their own series. That said, I hope they make this series into a graphic novel. Well done!!!

one of the best elminster books ever.

this book incorporates ppl and features from other books elminster books so well; I truly wish to read the next great^10 daughter of elminster book. the sundering is such an important piece of DND this should be read by all DND fans. it really brings a heaviness to my heart to understand the weight of the transition of 3;4;5. but this book is gold. I had to re listen to many parts to capture each moment correctly. non stop action. non stop awesome.

The series ends strong with Elminster and a great narrator. My only complaint is that the powers in this book are so great that sometimes it seems like important details get rushed over. I really got the feeling sometimes that only El and the gods understood what was going on. hah!

Closure

I enjoyed the wrap up of the multiple story lines. Was a little disappointed with Camwin's story but others more than made up for it. I would recommend especially if you are a big fan of the series.

There aren't too many authors I read everything I can get my hands on.

Elizabeth Moon is constantly one of them.

She doesn't forget about details and weaves a good long tale.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Paks of course, but she scarce.

What aspect of Susan Ericksens performance would you have changed?

Sounded very painfully deliberate.

voicing accents and giving good performances is well within her preview, but this book began stilted and wound up passably awkward.

STILL, miles beyond and above Dawe.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

no... we didn't stay with anyone or any one situation long enough to care.

I follow Moon's twitter and there have been some real world interruptions that can derail a good book.

This was a contractual completion and it shows>

I would HAPPILY have waited another two years to have had this NOT seem like a rushed wrap-it-up-and-move-on effort.

In disappointment I shall return to the best of all of the Elizabeth Moon book and reread The Deed of Paksinarion trilogy and be soothed and sated.

It was a good but not epic. Expected big final battles with the villains but little was provided.

not a very gratifying end to a fantastic series

i loved both Pak series and all the other moon books but the last two books were disappointing. This seemed a hurry up and finish effort and i have to admit that van dyke spoiled me as a narrator...sometime mentioned this was a contract completion effort and there were other things going on inn miss moon's life during its writing. i can believe that.

i hope Ms Moon has a grand life in her later years...she gave us so much...time to relax

This book had me the whole time. That seems to be happening more and more rarely, so this was a treasure. My only issue was Hannah Norris' frequent butchering of what sounded like it was trying to be middle eastern. Sometimes the R rolling was so atrocious I winced. If a narrator is able to maintain an accent, then by all means-- I love them! Differences in dialects welcome too! But Norris would drop, pick up, and overdo the accent frequently.

Cartwright was fantastic in his narration so I gave the performance 3 stars solely for his ability.

The rest was A+ in my opinion, so I was able to listen to the full book without losing all the ambiance of the novel.

Great part one

Would you listen to Thief's Magic again? Why?

Great world building and interesting 'origin' stories for two protagonists, i will have to read it again when second part comes out.

What other book might you compare Thief's Magic to and why?

It's hard to tell. Story is original and in style more adult than her previous books. Little steam punk but in feeling closer to Mistborn than steam-punky books.

What does Grant Cartwright and Hannah Norris bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Narration is very unobtrusive, clear and enjoyable. nothing feels forced and characters are well defined.

It seems like we got new great fantasy series. Just beware, it IS first part of trilogy, not first book in a series with separate stories. After it finishes you get the depressing waiting period till second part comes out.

Half good, half bad

What did you like best about Thief's Magic? What did you like least?

The Tyen parts of the book for the best and the Rielle parts for the least. Tyen's world was interesting full of a mix of science and magic. Where as Rielle's world was just to over the top stereo types, the corrupt church, uncaring parents, the fruit fling angry mob.

Would you recommend Thief's Magic to your friends? Why or why not?

No, not the kind of book my friends read.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Grant was good he had a range of voices. Hannah was okay except for the voices of both upper class and poor females talked the same way. I don't expect unwed mother in the slums to sound like Eliza Doolittle, but at the same time I don't think she sound like Henry Higgins.

Melodramatic Misadventure Marred by TX Accent

This book takes the series on a downhill slope. An Amazon reviewer compared the story to the Perils of Pauline. I think the metaphor is a good one. If you are on the borderline with this series, skip this installment. Hopefully, the next one will be better.

For the Audible edition, the accent of the male Texican characters is awful. For some reason, it seems that the producers decided to increase the volume any time a Texican spoke. Folks - making it louder won't make it better.

I have enjoyed this narrator is the past. Her tone is easy to listen to and her English accent is lovely.

I didn't read the print edition. The audio was well done in general. The narrator is pleasant and a good story teller. I beg the producers to edit any further ones more carefully. There were several mispronunciations in all the books. So jarring in what was otherwise so pleasant and compelling. Please, reinvest in editing/proofing/quality control. Please.

Would you be willing to try another book from Shelley Adina? Why or why not?

Probably, I confess I want to see what happens. Fun stories and characters. But again, a few jarring errors in usage. Please, get a good editor for the next one and (and listen to her).

Did Fiona Hardingham do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Mostly. Occasionally I didn't know who was talking at first and Sir James's voice was a bit inconsistent. Overall I love her style and pace and delivery of dialog.

This series is fun and enjoyable and I definitely wanted to see what would happen next. I binge-listened the whole series so far, 3 books, in as many days. I have a real editor's brain. The blips that jar me probably wouldn't bother 95% of readers, so take my concerns about those things in that context. If book four were already available, I would listen to it right away. If/when it comes out I probably will listen to it. However, if the QC on that is not better, I will probably stop there.

Sword Dancer series

It is difficult for me to be objective about a novel when it is in a series I love. So I no longer try for objectivity.I point out the good and hope for the best. In this case I can be honest and still hand out a 5 star rating.

Recently Jennifer Roberson's SWORD DANCER series was digitized and I downloaded it on my Kndle Fire. At first, only Sword Dancer was avalaible. So I hounded the publisher (ok a bunch of fans did) and now we have the complete series available.

SWORD MAKER continues the story of The SandTiger, 7th and highest level sword dancer in the sands of the south. But Tiger isn't in the south right now. He finds himself in the cold North, where a sword has a personality and is filled with magic. Tiger and magic do not mix well and Tiger has a Jivatma, a magic-filled sword with a mind of its own. He left Del laying in a pool of blood with a mortal wound in Sword Singer. What will the Sandtiger do without Del, the blond haired beautiful An-Kaidan swordmaster of the north? This series on Dell and Tiger is among my most favorite.

The stories are really all from Tiger's view on things. But clearly his opinions evolve as his life with the "northern basha" goes forward. This series on Dell and Tiger is among my most favorite.

Amazing.

This book and this series bring me back to my adolescence. I must have read them 15-20 times. They are so good.

The story was unfinished

What did you like best about A March of Kings? What did you like least?

While the story is good and well written, it 's too short and the ending left one hanging. I actually went back to make sure I'd downloaded the whole thing. So in the end it was disappointing, all I could think was WHAT?

Because of this it was only worth 1/2 a credit.

Not Good.

I kept waiting for these books to get better. Unfortunately they don't. These plot has alot going on and the description seems promising. But after the 1239812390128390238290382 acceptance of death on many different characters' behalves I can not go on. The author picks one phrase and uses it over and over again. The narrator speaks very slowly but his voice is okay. Not worth it.

Too short

If you liked book 1 you will like this, but at 6 hours it is not worth 1 credit. Personally I bought the kindle book for 3.99 and added audible for 1.99. Still too short for the money, but better than wasting a credit.

Don't do it!!

I stupidly assumed this story had to get better. it didn't. I bought the whole series, so I feel obliged to keep listening. it's becoming self-torture at this point.
