    Publisher's Summary:
Long ago in their intraspecific conflicts a violent, technologically sophisticated life form, the Kurii, destroyed their native world. They now seek another. Between Earth and Gor, or the Counterearth, and the power of the imperialistic, predatory Kurii, now ensconced in the Steel Worlds, a number of satellite colonies concealed amongst the debris of the asteroid belt, stands only the defensive might of the Priest-Kings of Gor. Tarl Cabot, once of Bristol, England, laboring in behalf of the Priest-Kings, once managed to foil a Kur attempt to set the stage for an invasion of Gor. In that venture he encountered a worthy foe, the redoubtable Half-Ear, or Zarendargar, now fallen from favor in the Steel Worlds. The Kurii, unforgiving and relentless, have sent a death squad to Gor seeking Zarendargar. They seek the assistance of Cabot in this enterprise, but he declines to be of service. A decorated piece of hide, bearing strange symbols, tells a story, which may or may not be true. It suggests that Half-Ear, or Zarendargar, whom Cabot believed dead, may yet live. The death squad will seek Zarendargar, but, so, too, will Cabot, to warn him, for once, long ago, and faraway, in the polar north of Gor, each with the other had shared drink, a gesture of warriors, a cup lifted amongst foes. But to pursue this mission Cabot must enter and traverse the Barrens, the vast Eastern prairies of the primary Gorean continent, lands contested by tribes of warring savages, lands forbidden to strangers.

Excellent storytelling and it kept my interest.
Excellent story telling, it kept my interest at bay. I'm so glad that (in the end) the slave girl got what she wanted.
Surprised at insight into woman's feelings!
What did you like best about Slave Girl of Gor? What did you like least?
I truly started reading it with the intention of writing the answering "woman's point of view" to the whole thing, but was pleasantly surprised to see the author truly had a handle on it already!
What did you like best about this story?
The emotional power struggle between man and woman which has been going on since we were kicked out of the Garden!
Was Slave Girl of Gor worth the listening time?
Most definitely, and is one of those that I will probably re-read! :)
    If submission is your thing
Where does Slave Girl of Gor rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Since my marriage has turned D/s, I looked for this book. Yes, it's kind of cheesy fantasy, and really -- Goreans have the ability of interplanetary space travel, but they ride around on birds and fight with swords and knives? But don't let pesky details clutter your guilty pleasures here. John Norman (aka Lange) has some pretty good psychological insights on submissive's emotions and libido (I know I'm not supposed to think that, the Cambridge thought police are on their way, no worries). I've bookmarked a number of great quotes.
What did you like best about this story?
The psychological insights regarding female submission.

    Title: Imager's Battalion
    Subtitle: Imager Portfolio, Book 6

    Narrator: William Dufris
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 18 hrs and 24 mins

    Release date: 02-25-13
    Publisher: Tantor Audio

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Epic
    Publisher's Summary:
The sequel to The New York Times best-selling Princeps follows magical hero Quaeryt as he leads history's first Imager fighting force into war. Given the rank of subcommander by his wife's brother, Lord Bhayar, the ruler of Telaryn, Quaeryt joins an invading army into the hostile land of Bovaria, in retaliation for Bovaria's attempted annexation of Telaryn. But Quaeryt has his own agenda in doing Bhayar's bidding: to legitimize Imagers in the hearts and minds of all men, by demonstrating their value as heroes as he leads his battalion into one costly battle after another.
Making matters worse, court intrigues pursue Quaeryt even to the front lines of the conflict, as the Imager's enemies continue to plot against him.
    Critic Reviews:
"A wholly absorbing entry in this highly addictive series." (
    Kirus Starred Review)

    More of the same
    L. E. Modesitt, Jr. offers up another volume in the Imager Portfolio that differs little from its predecessor. As Bhayars forces invade Bovaria Quaeryt is now a subcommander but little else has changed. Quaeryt still reads about Rholan and gives sermons to the troops, he still figures out new ways for imagers to safely use and grow their abilities, and he still exchanges letters with Vaelora.
So there really isnt much new to review here. If you have been enjoying the Imager Portfolio since the switch to Quaeryt as the main character then you should dive right in because this is more of the same. If like me, you preferred Rhennthyl as the main character, then this book is another step in a storyline that remains just a little too bland. It continues to keep me interested but I never get excited about it.
Still Around? You Should Like This One Well Enough
In book 4, Scholar, we were introduced to Quaeryt, in the beginning of this prequel for the Imagers series, where he learns to become a master imager. In book 5, Princeps, we got to see Quaeryt function as a governor as he delved into the intricacies of politics and problems that arise from corrupt government. Now in book 6, Imager's Battalion, we get a continuation of adventures involving Quaeryt as he goes on a military march to Bovaria as a sub commander to destroy some evil ruler. We have established that our protagonist is a strong leader and the best imager around and now we get to see him training others. He commits to this military campaign in order to secure a need and better standing for imagers in his land. We explore what it might take for this to happen and can make connections to what creates the rules in which imagers must live by in the future.
What made this a 3 star instead of a higher rating for me was the constant second guessing, moaning, justification, and false modesty Quaeryt would go through in his campaign of carnage. We also get more preaching about naming. This isn't exactly something new and such themes repeat through the other two previous books. The narration isn't stellar either. I wish William Dufris would cut out his injured voice. The characters sound similar as well. I didn't think he was the best narrator for the first three books and I would have preferred for this new set of characters to have someone else.
Anyhow, we get a book 7, Antiagon Fire, which just came out recently.

    A Great Start!
    Any additional comments?
A very entertaining listen! Great narration, an interesting world, and a charming cast of characters. Very well balanced, nice mix of action and character moments, very digestible worldbuilding. Really solid start to the series. I hope audible gets the next book, but this book does stand on it's own as well.
Amazing book and great narrator voice
This is one of my favourite books of all time. The crew is fantastically well developed and the story is engaging.
I was stoked to see this book on audible, as I've been wanting to reread it, but barely have timeto read in the evenings.
Other than that, i really love the narrators impression of the characters, i'm literally grinning while im listening because it's so fun.
I would really recommend this book to anyone who likes pirates, swashbuckling, sci fi and engaging stories, and especially to people who love character and relationship dynamics.
I'm also holding out for the rest of the Letty Jay chronicles to be narrated, because this entire series is completely awe inspiring.
    High mark for Audiobook...maybe ever.

    Rupert is outstanding.

    Magic at its peak!
It will soon be the Night of the Eye, a rare time when all three moons align in high sanction over the lands of Krynn. Seduced by promises of wizardly might, Guerrand slips away beneath the triple moons and journeys for the Tower of Wayreth.
No one thinks he will survive the deadly trek to the tower, but he does. It's only then that Guerrand realizes that he has made many enemies in his journey. One of these foes would not only see Guerrand dead, but the three orders of sorcery destroyed with him.

    A brilliant walk into Dragonlance
A wonderful walk through the post cataclysm world of the orders of magic. The reading is well done with noticeable changes in the readers voice for different characters.
    great story!
horrible narration. the voices he used were so laughable I had a hard time finishing the book.
    Enjoyable classic magic
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd recommend this for Dragonlance fans - covers a lot of magic from Krynn in this trilogy although a lot of the elements probably come from the old game more than other dragonlance books
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that we get to see what the life of a more or less regular wizard is like on Krynn
Have you listened to any of J. P. Lintons other performances before? How does this one compare?
His performance is okay - not great for me. He's does a good job on a lot of the voices although he is a little deep for my preference. Sometimes it was hard for me to follow the transitions from one setting to the next. The story would change from one character to the next but it sounded like one sentence but that was my only gripe
    Any additional comments?
This book wasn't quite in line with the magic casting we learned from the main books. It glossed over a lot of the handicaps that the wizards have - probably to make the book move more quickly.

    The Healer's Apprentice
I really didn't like this book. It started out really slowly, and stayed that way through most of the book. There were three different points-of-view in this story, and none of them really appealed to me. Tessia was the main POV, and she started off as a really likable character who was helping her father the local healer, until she comes to realize she's a naturally gifted magician through an assault from our main villain. Ok that's pretty neat, but as the story goes on and the war escalates between Corallia and Sachika, she begins to whine about how much she'd rather be a healer. We get it after it's beaten into our skulls more times than I can count. The relationship between her and Jayan wasn't really well developed and not at all surprising, so it fit the bill, but it wasn't anything special. I don't really understand how she went from a healers apprentice and a magician's apprentices to this all powerful magical healer with only knowing the basics, as that's what we were led to believe.
The second POV character is Hanara the evil Takado's slave. This character served as our view into what the villains were doing. I thought this could have been a really interesting character after how the first part when he gained freedom, but then his character just fell apart as he groveled through the last 2/3 of the story.
The final POV character is Stara a woman who gets sent back to her Sachakan father to be married and start a family. She started off boring and actually became the most interesting character towards the end, even though she was pretty selfish in her goal to become a magician and not be married/have children.
The story mostly follows the war between Sachaka and Corallia. It spends a lot of time following the magicians movements and there's three battles that feel more like skirmishes, because they don't capture the battle very well. I don't know if Ms.

    Good book
What did you love best about Unclean?
Well written, good characters, good plot
What other book might you compare Unclean to and why?
Well written, good characters, good plot. Good job taking individual adventure and weaving it into a larger grand scale plot line
Have you listened to any of Kevin Krafts other performances before? How does this one compare?
No but he did a great job
    Sloppy Story and Flat Narrator
Would you try another book from Richard Lee Byers and/or Kevin Kraft?
Oddly, I have listened to Richard Lee Byers' Brotherhood of the Griffon and those books have a better theme, political intrigue and characters (although Aoth is shared).Kevin Kraft was just not very good. He uses a good variety of voice for each character... but it's just not good. There is a lisp (intentional or not) that is pretty bad. Voices sound pretty flat and uninspiring.
Would you ever listen to anything by Richard Lee Byers again?
I recommend the Brotherhood of the Griffon series. The stories and characters are more enjoyable.
What didnt you like about Kevin Krafts performance?
Nothing. He has good range in characters but they sound horrible.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Unclean?
Scenes are fine but I why does the reader care? We were never given enough to care about the story or the characters... and I am a huge realms fan. Szazz stuff was interesting but too little.
    Any additional comments?
The story is immediately split into three intertwined stories that are suppose to come together by the end. A good example of this is Elaine Cunningham (which she does very nicely). For some reason I felt like this was disjointed and never really made sense (like, why am I still listening, I don't care what happens in the story).

    A Humble Start
While this isn't a bad story, nothing in this book hits the high notes. Character never quiet come to life, the plot meanders, foes are under developed and the setting isn't used very well. The book lets too many hints around the mystery slip and most readers will figure out the mystery plot long before the characters do making the middle of this book painful to get through as you wait for the characters to get a clue. While I've certainly read worse genre fiction, it lacked a little something to really set it apart or tap into the wonderfully vibrate D&D energy leaving it very average.
However despite the books flaws, I don't regret picking it up. While I can only recommend this book on its own to hard core fans of the Forgotten Realms series it does set the stage for better stories down the line and really lets you get to know the leads. The characters events and relationships established here all are used to much better effect later in the series and while it slows down in the middle, the last 3rd of the book really picked up nicely once Airlyn finally figured out the score and stopped bumbling around clueless from point A to point B and goes to confront the villains in a great high adventure conclusion.
So, while Elfshadow has its fair share of flaws, I still recommend picking it up if you are a fan as it builds into some great stories down the line.
    Good book. Great narration.
Slow start. Fairly predictable ftom the onset, but hooks you to want to bunge the final chapters.
    always a fan
this book has always been a favorite of mine and listening to it just made it all the better I am pumped for the next on...onward dandy!!!
    Great story
It's wonderful to relive these books after decades of absence. I read all of these books and many others while I was in high school and this brings back fantastic memories.
    My first...
Would you consider the audio edition of Elfshadow to be better than the print version?
No... I actually preferred the print, but listening was an added benefit. I don't know, maybe it's the D&D adventure side of me.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Dan[ilo], for sure!
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Sumner's performance was all right - definitely not in my top 10 narrators, but I enjoyed him nonetheless.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Adventure... when and where you least expect it.
    Any additional comments?
This was my first introduction to Elaine's writing. The story made me feel like I was watching a D&D session take place (or playing in one)! I enjoyed many aspects of the tale, especially Elaine's attention to Realmslore details, like Dale Reckoning, spell components, equipment and location names, and most of all the much shrouded history of the ancient elven kingdom of Evermeet.

    Decent enough
The story is just as great as any of the forgotten realms stories are. The drawback here is the narrator. She pronounces things strangely and reads in a manner that leaves the listener confused at times. Also a problem I had with this recording was the lack of a breath or any sign that we switched character view points. One moment we are the prince fighting to keep his castle safe and then suddenly in what sounds like the same sentence we are the trusty Moore hound running home with a pack of wolves confusing the listener to exactly what's going on. If you can pour all your attention into the recording it's decently easy to follow but if you are multitasking it's very easy to get lost as to what's happening.
A good story ruined by a bad voice actor.
Would you try another book from Douglas Niles and/or Dara Rosenberg?
I read this book years ago, while there were a lot of loop holes and typo's it was a decent read.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
    Better voice actor.
What didnt you like about Dara Rosenbergs performance?
I typically don't do reviews unless I find something terribly wrong....and Dara's performance on this novel is horrid. It's like listening to the Amazon Echo read a book except that Alexa reads better. You can tell when she messes up (which is often) because there is an overdub and it's evident. Either she can't read very well, or she just doesn't like this story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was definitely disappointed at the performance on this novel. It's a Forgotten Realms classic. I now wish I had just read it again in lieu of paying for such a terrible performance.
    Any additional comments?
I won't be purchasing any books soon that is read by Dara Rosenberg.
    great book
look forward to the rest of this trilogy. great start to tease you into continuing.
    good old fashion Fantasy adventure
