In life I was a scientist called Fanning. Then, in a jungle in Bolivia, I died. I died, and then I was brought back to life....
Prompted by a voice that lives in her blood, the fearsome warrior known as Alicia of Blades is drawn towards one of the great cities of The Time Before. The ruined city of New York. Ruined but not empty. For this is the final refuge of Zero, the first and last of The Twelve. The one who must be destroyed if mankind is to have a future.
What she finds is not what she's expecting. A journey into the past. To find out how it all began. And an opponent at once deadlier and more human than she could ever have imagined.
The publishing phenomenon that began with the astonishing worldwide best seller The Passage now comes to its epic conclusion.

    Dreadful epilogue - don't listen
An excellent conclusion to the vast trilogy. This was spoilt, ruinously, by the epilogue.
Just accept it as a bad idea and stop listening there... honestly.
The story unfolds and brought laughter and tears in equal measure.
Now what can I look forward to? I miss the characters.
Narrative, Reading and Production are Superb,.
Thought every aspect of this production was beyond compare. Would recommend without hesitation to all
    Jarring change but eventually brilliant
I really struggled with this third book. It is a book of two halves and the first half takes us on a wayward tangent that I want expecting. It was frustrating as I had waited for this book to be released and now it wasn't telling what happens next. Instead of went back in time.
The story as at know it returns in the second half of the book and Cronin does this it all together in the end. However, I felt the back story was too long and could have been handled in a less jarring manner.
Having said that, this is a brilliant ending to the story. Moving and emotional. Well worth struggling through the first half of the book.
    Amazing
Love every minute of the trilogy. Amazing conclusion. Will feel lost without this series now.
    brilliant
three brilliant books, the only down side is that I need more. what to do now :(

    Becoming predictable.
I really enjoyed the first book in the series, I quite liked the second book - but by the third book I could predict what would happen because it seems that Kate has only one main story line for her lead character. I won't lay out the details here because I would hate to spoil the book for someone who hasn't read the others, but the author may consider that it doesn't always need to be the same person who makes the same mistakes in their personal lives and who makes foolhardy decisions that end up with the same person fighting for their lives in every story! There are other ways to weave suspense and action into a book.
    silence of the lambs
which came first, the silence of the lambs or winter foundling? They are mirror images
    more from this author
loved the series, couldn't stop listening. Will there be an other book in the series
    Not so much
The book is well written and entertaining with a good story line. However at times I was lidterning to silence of the lambs! Please don't let me put you off but not a book I would listen to again and will return.
    Absolutely brilliant
One of the best thrillers I have listened to in a very long time. The characters fulfil the story line and do not stand outside the authors voice. The story is fast paced and demands reading from start to finish in a sitting. Thanks for a great read

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The Deep End of the Ocean, an epic story of courage and devotion that spans three continents and the entire map of the human heart.
Just hours after his wife and her entire family perish in the Christmas Eve tsunami in Brisbane, American expat and former police officer Frank Mercy goes out to join his volunteer rescue unit and pulls a little boy from a submerged car, saving the child's life with only seconds to spare. In that moment, Frank's own life is transformed. Not quite knowing why, Frank sidesteps the law when, instead of turning Ian over to the Red Cross, he takes the boy home to the Midwestern farm where he grew up. Not long into their journey, Frank begins to believe that Ian has an extraordinary, impossible telepathic gift; but his only wish is to protect the deeply frightened child.
As Frank struggles to start over, training horses as his father and grandfather did before him, he meets Claudia, a champion equestrian and someone with whom he can share his life - and his fears for Ian. Both of them know that it will be impossible to keep Ian's gift a secret forever. Already, ominous coincidences have put Frank's police instincts on high alert, as strangers trespass the quiet life at the family farm.
The fight to keep Ian safe from a sinister group who want him back takes listeners from the ravaged shores of Brisbane to the middle of America to a quaint English village. Even as Frank and Claudia dare to hope for new love, it becomes clear that they can never let Ian go, no matter what the cost.
A suspenseful novel on a grand scale, Two If by Sea is about the best and worst in people and the possibility of heroism and even magic in ordinary life.

Wow! An amazing story, interesting characters, beautiful places, love and loss, tenderness and terror, heaven and earth. A must read. (But put cotton in your ears for the occasional f-word or diety-abuse. In fact, even the language is artfully explained away to my satisfaction.)
    Morosely fantasy
Master of similes and metaphors to color the prose. The story held me and drew me in but was too fantastic to be real. There was just too many things that happened that were glazed over as acceptable. Odd book but interesting.
What a waste! Keep your credit!!!!
The story is long, pointless, and has no real plot. The cover art is okay and the Title was neat, even though, the title had nothing to do with the story. The only part of the story that makes a little sense is there was a flood in Australia a lot of people were killed in the flood including the wife and unborn child of the main character who is from America and works as a volunteer firefighter. He saves a small boy,but the boys brother goes on down stream.
After that the story goes down hill in chapter 2
    Excellent!
I was hooked! Thoroughly gripping. Oh no moments that made me bite my nails. Enjoy.
Great beginning but gets more and more boring.
I loved the beginning. Then the story got slower and slower. After 6 hours I couldn't take anymore and returned the book. Could care less about the ending.

"Mayday, mayday! I'm going down, I'm going do- "
Author, airline captain, and popular blogger (capnaux.com) Eric Auxier brings Alaska bush flying to life in his second novel, The Last Bush Pilots. Exhilarating flying, tall tales, and larger-than-life characters abound in a wild land that truly is America's Last Frontier.
Two young pilots, Daniel "D.C." Alva and Allen David Foley, take on the world's most dangerous flying: the Alaska bush. But Mother Nature - and a sexy Native Alaskan - stand in their way.
Southeast Alaska Seaplanes, Juneau: Retired airline captain Chief Pilot Dusty Tucker pilots a renegade band of flying misfits. Meet legendary bush pilot Jake "Crash" Whitakker, equally adept at landing planes and ladies - and "crashin' 'em" as well; prankster pilot Ralph Olaphsen, who once set an extinct volcano ablaze on April Fool's Day; and no-nonsense Check Airman Holly Innes, trying to cut a respectable niche in the notoriously macho bush pilot world - while escaping a dangerous past.
Amid Alaska's soggy skies, D.C. and Allen face escalating challenges in and out of the cockpit. The two cheechackos, or greenhorns, are roped into Crash and Ralph's harebrained scheme, Operation Dirty Harry. Under the suspicious nose of draconian FAA Inspector Frederick Bruner, the pilots hatch a plot to hijack and rescue a planeload of orphaned bear cubs. Moreover, mischievous Tlingit Indian Tonya Hunter, as wild and unpredictable as the land in which she lives, plays the two lovestruck cheechackos against each other.
But the true villain of the story is Mother Nature herself. Alaska's notoriously fickle weather and rugged terrain take on lives of their own. Can the two cheechackos survive her relentless onslaught and launch their fledgling airline careers?

    Along for the Adventure!!!!
Having lived and worked up in Alaska for a few summers it was sooo wonderful getting to relive in my imagination the adventures that I had had in the last frontier. And especially with my love for aviation it was just another cherry on top to listen to this book
    A Layover In Alaska
Would you listen to The Last Bush Pilots again? Why?
Yes. It was an enjoyable but realistic look into bush flying in Alaska that taught you about the profession while giving you an interesting backdrop of characters, landscapes and interesting, if slow, plot. Listening again would be an enjoyable way to pass the time on a long flight.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's a toss up. But, I think "Crash" is my favorite. He is complex and demonstrates a man with some experience still learning his craft.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I thought the performance was so so. The characters voices didn't vary enough which can make it hard to follow at times and you can hear a few edits here and there. But, that is made up for by the narrator's passion and knowledge of aviation.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Due to the slow start I stopped and started a lot. But, the last third of the book or so I listened to in one shot.
    Any additional comments?
I really would like to hear a squeal
    Flying on the edge.
The story reminds us that VFR flying in marginal weather conditions is a "flying by the seat of your pants" experience that you don't forget easily.

    Publisher's Summary:
The latest instalment of the beloved and best-selling series - as endearing and delectable as ever!
Business is slow at the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, so at Mma Makutsis suggestion, Mma Ramotswe is persuaded to take her first-ever holiday. But just as shes about to depart, a new client arrives: a young woman whose father was considered a hero in Botswana but whose reputation is now being called into question.
Mma Ramotswe almost cancels her trip, but Mma Makutsi is adamant that she and Charlie have the situation in hand. Precious cant relax, however, if she doesnt know whats going on at the agency, so she enlists Charlie to be her eyes and ears while shes away. But Charlie may not be an altogether reliable emissary, particularly with much of his attention devoted to his newly adopted dog.
In the end its an investigation that will affect everyone at the agency and a reminder for us all that ordinary human failings should be treated with a large helping of charity and compassion.
    Critic Reviews:
"Enchanting.... An inspiration to us all.... The sweet, chuckling voice of Precious Ramotswe falls gentle on the ear." (The New York Times Book Review)
    Members Reviews:
A story with a heart in Botswana
I find this whole series wonderful. The characters are finely drawn, full of heart and humour. It is best to read this series in order, as there is progression in the way the main characters are introduced and relate to one another, but each book can stand alone and no background knowledge is required.
In this book Mma Ramotswe takes a holiday. She is not sure if she wants a holiday. What will she do with all her free time? Reorganise the grocery cupboard? Gossip with the other "ladies of leasure"? Can she trust Mma Makutsi do handle the agency's investigations properly? And can she stay away from solving mysteries?
Rest assured that anything that Mma Ramotswe decides to do will interest and entertain you. I found myself relating to everything, even to the grocery cupboard.
I must also add that the narrator is absolutely superb. Her accents are just right, never exaggerated or patronising, and the characters are clear and distinct.
    Deceptively subtle
The author never disappoints despite writing about totally different cultures honestly but sympathetically. He seems to be able in what may be parts of a conversation transport the reader from the dusty streets of Botswana to the old and rarefied world of Edinburgh st.
    Always a pleasure
I always enjoy stories about Precious Ramotswe but this is the first audible book I have listened to. I have to say that the narrator is superb. I live in Africa so I know good southern African accents when I hear them and she was outstanding, not only with accents with the characterizations as well. An excellent listen!
    Fruit cake and feminism
Transported to Botswana again for another wonderful, familiar tale from the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. I don't know how Alexander McCall Smith comes up with so many different scenarios with the same characters but these books never get boring, this one has a particularly unexpected twist! Narrated as usual by Adjoa Andoh who gets all the voices spot on. Fans will not be disappointed.
excellent story and so well read.
An excellent story that may seem slow at first but builds and builds and well worth the wait. So well read.

    Publisher's Summary:
How far would you go to get what you wanted? That's the question author Catherine McKenzie addresses in Spin - a delectable debut novel that takes listeners into the connected worlds of pop culture, tabloid journalism, and celebrity rehab. The story of a newbie undercover gossip reporter who follows a troubled starlet into a rehab clinic intending to dig up all the dirt she possibly can, Spin is smart, hip, utterly engaging contemporary fiction in the vein of Jennifer Weiner and Emily Giffin.
    Critic Reviews:
"Imagine if Bridget Jones fell into a million little pieces, flew over the cuckoo's nest, and befriended Lindsay Lohan along the way, and you are beginning to grasp the literary roller coaster ride that is Catherine McKenzie's
    Spin." (Leah McLaren, author of
    The Continuity Girl)
    Members Reviews:
    Fantastic!
It is an ironic love story that I enjoyed it immensely. Characters were likeable and fun. Narration was superb. I will be seeking out this author and narrator to enjoy more of their work.
    Horrible narration
I returned the book mainly cause of the narrator. The lack of modulations and the lack of differentiations adapting to the story was totally amiss. For a book I would have otherwise finished returning, I couldn't go beyond 2 chapters.
What a girl will do for a dream job
Spin by Catherine McKenzie is a look into the life of a journalist who is desperately seeking a job at a favorite magazine. How far will she go? Well, it seems she, who enjoys alcohol a little too much, might just agree to spy on a celebrity in rehab. Will Katie learn a few things about herself? What kind of spin will she put on an article she has been asked to write? The author gives some insight into what might happen in a rehab center for wealthier clients. Good plug for Alcoholics Anonymous. Add in a little humor, a little romance and the story takes off. Be aware of the language, I'd probably consider it R rated! Wondering what's ahead for the characters. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Kristi Burns. She did a fantastic job giving voice to the various characters, making for an enjoyable listen. I was given a complimentary copy of the book by the author and was not required to give a review and the opinions are my own.
    Loved this!
Catherine McKenzie writes with such fluidity and grace...she has wonderful character development-a story in which I could see every detail in my head. Narration was fantastic! Wasn't difficult to determine what was being spoken out loud by the Katie and what was in her head. This is my fourth Catherine McKenzie audiobook and I am not stopping!!
the narrator's perky voice distracted me
Would you try another book from Catherine McKenzie and/or Kristi Burns?
I see from other reviewers that many liked the narrator's voice in this, but I found her voice to be so overly perky that I couldn't listen to this very long, so I can't really judge the book as a whole. Her voice didn't seem well-suited to a story in which a main theme is alcohol abuse.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kristi Burns?
Someone with a less chirpy voice.

From the author of The Wilds, which Publishers Weekly called "a brilliant combination of emotion and grime, wit and horror," comes a debut novel that is part dystopian satire, part Southern Gothic tall tale: a disturbing yet hilarious romp through a surreal New South where newfangled medical technologies change the structure of the human brain, and genetically modified feral animals ravage the blighted landscape.

As Romie tracks down specimens for his elaborate animatronic taxidermy dioramas, he develops an Ahab-caliber obsession with bagging "Hogzilla", a thousand-pound feral hog that has been terrorizing Hampton County. Cruising hog-hunting websites, he learns that this lab-spawned monster possesses peculiar traits. Pulled into an absurd and murky underworld of biotech operatives, FDA agents, and environmental activists, Romie becomes entangled in the enigma of Hogzilla's origins. Publisher: HarperAudio

    Publisher's Summary:
A woman known only as A lives in an unnamed American city with her roommate, B, and boyfriend, C, who wants her to join him on a reality dating show called That's My Partner! A eats mostly popsicles and oranges, watches endless amounts of television, often just for the commercials - particularly the recurring cartoon escapades of Kandy Kat, the mascot for an entirely chemical dessert - and models herself on a standard of beauty that exists only in such advertising. She fixates on the 15 minutes of fame a local celebrity named Michael has earned after buying up a Wally's Supermarket's entire, and increasingly ample, supply of veal.
Meanwhile, B is attempting to make herself a twin of A, who in turn hungers for something to give meaning to her life - something aside from C's pornography addiction. Maybe something like what's gotten into her neighbors across the street, the family who's begun "ghosting" themselves beneath white sheets and whose garage door features a strange scrawl of graffiti: he who sits next to me, may we eat as one.
An intelligent and madly entertaining novel reminiscent of The Crying of Lot 49, White Noise, and City of Glass, Alexandra Kleeman's unforgettable debut is a missing-person mystery told from the point of view of the missing person; an American horror story that concerns sex and friendship, consumption and appetite, faith and transformation, real food and reality television; and, above all, a wholly singular vision of modern womanhood by a frightening, "stunning" (Conjunctions), and often very funny voice of a new generation.

    Would NOT recommend
    Any additional comments?
I bought this book because the description made it sound like it would be an interesting commentary of our society's obsession with body image, dieting, beauty, etc. That was not at all what I got. If I hadn't paid for it, I would've stopped listening after the first few chapters. It seemed like the author was trying really hard to be surreal and edgy and failing on both counts. There didn't seem to be much explanation at all for the main character's actions, even though it is written in first-person POV -- she would just do a crazy thing and I would have no idea why she'd decided on that course of action. The ending was also very predictable, which was disappointing. I would not recommend spending your money on this book.
Summary. Be unique or lose your identity
What was most disappointing about Alexandra Kleemans story?
Waste of time. Could have been summarized in a short story or article, not a novel.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kelly Pruners performances?
    Maybe
