Fun and disturbing read
Fun and disturbing read! Really paints a picture of the dark side of rural Kentucky. Whether you are into dark occult type mysteries or an old Deadhead you will enjoy this book for sure =).

A truly dark and twisted story. Exactly what I was looking for. If you're looking for extreme, you will not be let down!
Almost predictable..but wait, there's more!
Pretty good... potheads, haunted house, trapped souls, satanists, epilepsy, how about see Lovecraftian mythos.
Just when you think they couldn't add anything else, they do. But it really seems to mesh. Very slow at the beginning and a little rushed at the end but very glad I picked it up.
Fans of Evil Dead and Hellraiser come hither.
The description of this novel found above boasts a similarity to Evil Dead and Hellraiser with good reason. Aleister Davidson's debut novel utilizes a largely cinematic style. It's all too easy to imagine the narrative as a shamelessly loud and messy horror flick, riddled with sex, drug use and nerve-violating anguish. Perhaps someday it will be adapted into such.
The Lovecraftian influence is clear here as well. Given the recently restored popularity of Stephen King's IT, this may be just the thing current horror audiences are after. In an introduction to a collection of Lovecraft stories entitled Being Providence, Poppy Z. Brite wrote this:
"It's often been said that reading horror fiction is a way of rehearsing death, of flirting with our own mortality without going all the way. Depending on how much credence you give this theory, you may or may not agree that H.P. Lovecraft owes some of his posthumous popularity to a shell-shocked post-World War II readership trying to come to terms with the fact that the universe just didn't care about humanity as much as they had once believed."
The supernatural elements in Gravel Switch invokes this same kind of dread, that the greater powers in the universe may, in fact, not care about humanity at all.
