Love!!!

We are huge Tomie dePaola fans here and the 26 Fairmount Avenue series is partially why. My five year old daughter and I read the whole series together and our only complaint is that it doesn't continue. Excellent writing, fabulous illustrations, and you really feel like you get to know little Tomie. Love it!

Fun Read for a Young Reader

I bought this book for my 7 year old son who is finishing first grade and is just starting to read chapter books (by chapter books, I mean longer ones, not just the "Henry and Mudge" types that can be read in 20 minutes). I love this book! It is like hearing a funny grandpa tell you about his childhood. Mr. de Paola is a good narrator of his own life. My son really got a kick out of some of the antics, like how Tomie behaved while seeing Snow White in the movie theatre. I read the first chapter out loud to my son to make sure he comprehended it. It did, and then he finished the rest of the book himself.

I highly recommend this book to any first or second grader. Teachers and parents would enjoy reading it as well.

Great.

Fun, very enjoyable.

My son was sick for a few days while the rest of the class was reading this book at school, and we needed to have this book to help keep him up on class and understand what was going on in the story. The book wasn't available anywhere locally, so we ordered from Amazon, and it got here QUICKLY! We were able to get him caught up on his work, and we could also explain the story in a better one-on-one setting than any classroom could do, and he did well.

I have to say, the story was also enjoyable for a parent, as it brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. Although I never lived where the story took place, and we didn't have grandparents in the house with us (as is the case in the story), there were a lot of fun perspectives from a child's point of view. Tomie dePaola has a very good writing style, and the artwork is fun, too. I recommend the book for anyone who enjoys childrens' books - especially those books about life in 1938. It would be a superb grandparent-to-grandchild book.

wonderful series

This is a lovely story, well written, nicely paced for a 4-6 year olds, and with humor throughout. We read the entire series to our son, and I buy it for nieces and nephews when they are 4 or 5.

What made the experience of listening to The Best Halloween Ever the most enjoyable?

My kids read this along with The Best School Year Ever. Both are great stories and keep the students really engaged.

What didnt you like about Elaine Stritchs performance?

The author's voice is very deep and rough and hard on the ears. I am teaching fluency and hers isn't the best. The only reason I kept playing it was because I am sick and have no voice of my own!

It is so funny!

Excellent choice for auditory learners

Very pleasant speaking voices, the classical music is well done and offsets the stories nicely without overwhelming the narrative. The stories have morals well worth listening to in the car or at bedtime. The prose is well-written and has an excellent selection of vocabulary words presented in a very straight-forward and intelligent format. Thumbelina was one of the stories with which I was previously familiar and the others will soon become favorites, as with most of Hans Christian Anderson. Wonderful way to expose children to the written word in an interesting format. The stories do not seem to be altered from the original prose, although I would have to check that to be sure. Excellent choice for auditory learners.

I read these out of order, but this is a great read.

Great series

Loved it. I can't wiat for the next one. Charlie Bone is a great series.

Thin plot. Not as good as the 1st book

The 1st book was a fun kids book, but this one seems like it got rushed to the printer. The "cousin" of Charlie is frankly too dumb to live. Characters that were fairly fleshed out in the last book at times did things that were out of character, and several leaps were made to conclusions for no apparent reason.

Great narrator. So-so book.

I love this series, it's has a very comfortable style and the narrator is excellent. Its almost like watching a movie withe the various voices he has at his be beckoning call. I highly reccomend this book for adults and children.

My kids are obsessed with listening to this book, and they are obsessed with pokemon. The diary of pidgey was their favorite audiobook of the pokemon go series!

Awesome Book!

This book is one I read to my class every year and they love it! Its great for all kids and ages. I read it to my Fifth grade class and they thought it was hilarious!

Great, fun read for elementary school students

A group of friends decide to get rich quick by selling an "Alien/UFO story". A funny ride for the reader and a short chapter book - just what the students want in a classroom set. Great for starting comprehension dialogue.
