Another Great collection of Paul Temple, Steve, Charlie & Sir Graham!
Ok, yes they are new remakes of the originals. However they have all the feel of the Golden Days of Crime Radio.
This is a must for any Paul Temple Fan! Or anyone who just wants to hear a "Proper" crime thriller!
    Enjoyable, However....
This version of Paul Temple seems harsher and more bullying than of old, at least in the first 3 stories. In the remake of The Gregory Affair, the actor's approach to Paul Temple matches the original and he's much more charming and not quite as condescending. This may be down to differences in the scripts rather than differences in performance, but it made the first 3 stories much harder to listen to.
    Very good
    I really enjoyed this book.
Story was good and i found it very enjoyablewould recomend.

    Sprache: Deutsch
    Veröffentlichungsdatum: 06-09-17
    Herausgeber: LifeTime Film & Audio
    Bewertung: 4 von 5 von 3 Stimmen
Kategorien: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective

Fantastic book and a true story
Fantastic book and a true story. Also I love the recipes and tried a few of them. In the end he opens a restaurant and I am wondering if its still operating. A very adventures life. Too bad that the English translation is soooooo expensive. I would love for every American to be able to read this book. True history.
    amazing book
It's hard to found a English translation of this wonderful book !! At least I can read German to enjoy it !!
Who says Germans have no sense of humor?
This is an eccentric, outstanding novel, an excellent mixture of comedy and tragedy, full of humor and wit, written by a German writer. One of the book I love best. I read it many years ago and I read it again now.
The story is mainly in World War II. Thomas Lieven is a young German banker. Intelligence agencies of several countries trap him and force him to work for them. Thomas obeys them superficially, but at heart he never does. He brilliantly makes a fool out of them. He is an indomitable pacifist, but not a theoretical, fanatic idealist. I particularly love his practical attitude; he racks his brain and even risks his own life to save people from bloodshed regardless their nationalities. That's very brave and nice of him. I love him so much!
What makes this story outstandingly eccentric is that Thomas loves cooking.

    Great Classic English Mystery!!!
Everything about this book is sooo very classic English!! The characters are so very controlled, so very patient and so very interesting. The narrator captures each perfectly. Although the reader is able to figure out the darkness of the plot early on, the journey to the end of the book is well worth the time.
    Difficult listen
The narrator has a pleasant if ponderous voice but the story is difficult You are continually told that you must first listen to this pedantic portion in order to understand the dramatic part. I had the whole thing figured out by the first death but I stuck with it because the book represents a genre of a certain era and I wanted to explore that era. Now I have done that
    A good story
    Any additional comments?
This is really a rather good story. As previous reviewers have noted, the story extends for a period of over a decade, the nature of the crime and its possible solution becoming clear slowly. Much of the story centres on archaeological endeavour, and as a professional archaeologist this book makes slightly uncomfortable reading as the oddities of the profession in the 1920s (and indeed today) are gently, and with justification, ridiculed. I will certainly buy more books by this author. An excellent narrator too.
    A jolly good yarn
I have read or listened to most of the British Library classics and this is one of the best in my opinion. Gripping story and an unusual storytelling method which worked very well. Also I found the narration complimented the story perfectly

    MMmmm.....pulpy!
    Standard Mason
The Swallow was typical Gardner with a nicely complex plot with the identity of the "bad guy" shifting more than once. But still a routine read. The other pulp stories included were just too dated to be of interest.
    Rating a Perry Mason book
I love all Perry Mason novels, and this was certainly an interesting one. I'm glad to see it in Kindle edition. I wish all his novels were. Earle Stanley Gardner also wrote under the pen-name of A. A. Fair. I would love to see those books in Kindle edition as well. Thank you.

    IT'S GREAT
This is another good mystery story by Erle Stanley Gardner
This is another good mystery story by Erle Stanley Gardner. I especially like his Perry Mason series. I like to try to figure out who 'dunnit' before I get to the end of the book. I failed this time. There was one thing that Perry Mason does that was not entirely ethical, which surprised me. Alto the series was written years ago you would not realize it, except for the mention of the rotary phone and the manual typewriter! I will read it again at some later date. I liked it that well.

    Fantastic classic drama
I want to first start off by saying I am new to Philip Odell classical detective drama. Although I never been around in the time this was introduced in the radio, I still like it. I am a fan of old classical detective drama. I actually am a collector to this and hope to find other like this as well. I am proud that I purchase this and listen to this drama. I hope I get to see in the future that audible has more Philip Odell cases in radio drama form.
GOOD OLD CLEAN ENTERTAINMENT FROM THE PAST
This is an excellent listen for a lazy afternoon when you just need to flip out on the couch and relax for a few hours.
Good old English entertainment at its best. Should you like Paul Temple and Stevie, you are in for a good murder mystery as they made them way back in the old Hollywood style of the 40's & 50's.
Excellently produced. Great actors in the way they did it in the olden days! No modern larks here. Lots of characters to choose from to keep you on your toes for 'who did it & why'. Look forward to more of this type of drama.
    A very good serial
I really enjoyed this story and was surprised to find that it didn't seem dated considering it was recorded in the 50's. Some very good actors Robert Beatty and Mary Wimbush. If I had to find fault it is a small, one explained at the beginning Philip O'Dell had spent some tome in USA, the Irish accent sometimes disappeared.

The plot of Partners of Peril and much of the action is almost identical to "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate", the very first Batman story in Detective Comics #27, which appeared some years later. In fact the creators of Batman acknowledged they drew their inspiration for the Caped Crusader from this classic Shadow story.

Original Pulpy Goodness Given a Fresh Spin!
This plays like a cross between a traditional audiobook and an old time radio show. Not quite either, this is the best multicast performance I've ever seen from Audible Studios. Enriched with sound effects, music, and few little tricks that harken back to the days of the Shadow radio show, this one is a tremendous amount of fun. Now, you have to understand what you are getting here. This is an original pulp novel from the 30's so the prose is a bit over the top, but fun? Oh boy, is this fun. Unleash your inner 10 year old for a few hours and enjoy this. I certainly hope Audible studios does more of these performances/readings with a full cast. There are more than 300 novels featuring the Shadow to choose from and the Doc Savage stories would lend themselves to this kind of treatment as well. C'mon Audible! You are on to something here! Keep them coming!
Finally! Classic Shadow Pulp on Audiobook
I was so surprised to see this up on audible. I never understood why there were no audiobooks of The Shadow Pulp novels. Hopefully this is just the beginning. Bring on the remaining 324 books!
    The Shadow knows
Great audiobook, audible needs to add more of the adventures of the Shadow. I recommend this audiobook to all mystery and suspense
    brings back memories!
Ever since I was a kid I loved The Shadow and now to be able to listen to these books, it rekindles that fascination with this character and his stories.
I found the story very interesting, absolutely love the detective style/ mad scientist.
the narrator did a fantastic job of telling the story, it was kind of like listening to a ghost story by a fire.
this book would definitely not be the same without its dramatization, the cast was fantastic as well as the sond effects.
overall I loved the book and I hope and pray that they do all of Maxwell grants works in this fashion! Thank you!
    Good but slow
I like old radio shows this is something more for a person that has an idea what the shadow with he is the precursor of Batman but I'm a young guy I like old radio shows because my grandpa got me into them and whoever likes the old radio shows and things around that era joy this book
So if you don't know who the shadow is check out the radio show first and then you'll enjoy this book
