    Any additional comments?
I was disappointed when Mrs Locke's SF Victorian Mystery appeared to stop with 'Deadly Proof.' The wait was worth it though because this book is the best one of the series. I found myself unable to stop listening, but I continued listening until I was finished. I was particularly intrigued by the weaving the lives of the 'Boarding House' characters throughout the story line. I look forward to a 'Book 6', but I will be patient. Good things come to him who waits!!!!
    Delightful historical cozy mystery
The fifth book in the historical mystery series set in Victorian San Francisco. Pilfered Promises continues the story of Annie Dawson who works as a financial consultant and runs a boarding house in San Francisco. Hired to look into the financial losses at a large department store Annie soon learns the problem is shoplifting. Shoplifting, murder, an orphaned child, race, divorce and romance are some of the intriguing elements that combine to make this cozy mystery the best in this wonderful series! I highly recommend the book and the audiobook, Already looking forward to the next book in the series!

Another Great collection of Paul Temple, Steve, Charlie & Sir Graham!
Ok, yes they are new remakes of the originals. However they have all the feel of the Golden Days of Crime Radio.
This is a must for any Paul Temple Fan! Or anyone who just wants to hear a "Proper" crime thriller!
    Enjoyable, However....
This version of Paul Temple seems harsher and more bullying than of old, at least in the first 3 stories. In the remake of The Gregory Affair, the actor's approach to Paul Temple matches the original and he's much more charming and not quite as condescending. This may be down to differences in the scripts rather than differences in performance, but it made the first 3 stories much harder to listen to.
    Very good
    I really enjoyed this book.
Story was good and i found it very enjoyablewould recomend.

Kategorien: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective

Fantastic book and a true story
Fantastic book and a true story. Also I love the recipes and tried a few of them. In the end he opens a restaurant and I am wondering if its still operating. A very adventures life. Too bad that the English translation is soooooo expensive. I would love for every American to be able to read this book. True history.
    amazing book
It's hard to found a English translation of this wonderful book !! At least I can read German to enjoy it !!
Who says Germans have no sense of humor?
This is an eccentric, outstanding novel, an excellent mixture of comedy and tragedy, full of humor and wit, written by a German writer. One of the book I love best. I read it many years ago and I read it again now.
The story is mainly in World War II. Thomas Lieven is a young German banker. Intelligence agencies of several countries trap him and force him to work for them. Thomas obeys them superficially, but at heart he never does. He brilliantly makes a fool out of them. He is an indomitable pacifist, but not a theoretical, fanatic idealist. I particularly love his practical attitude; he racks his brain and even risks his own life to save people from bloodshed regardless their nationalities. That's very brave and nice of him. I love him so much!
What makes this story outstandingly eccentric is that Thomas loves cooking.

    Great Classic English Mystery!!!
Everything about this book is sooo very classic English!! The characters are so very controlled, so very patient and so very interesting. The narrator captures each perfectly. Although the reader is able to figure out the darkness of the plot early on, the journey to the end of the book is well worth the time.
    Difficult listen
The narrator has a pleasant if ponderous voice but the story is difficult You are continually told that you must first listen to this pedantic portion in order to understand the dramatic part. I had the whole thing figured out by the first death but I stuck with it because the book represents a genre of a certain era and I wanted to explore that era. Now I have done that
    A good story
    Any additional comments?
This is really a rather good story. As previous reviewers have noted, the story extends for a period of over a decade, the nature of the crime and its possible solution becoming clear slowly. Much of the story centres on archaeological endeavour, and as a professional archaeologist this book makes slightly uncomfortable reading as the oddities of the profession in the 1920s (and indeed today) are gently, and with justification, ridiculed. I will certainly buy more books by this author. An excellent narrator too.
    A jolly good yarn
I have read or listened to most of the British Library classics and this is one of the best in my opinion. Gripping story and an unusual storytelling method which worked very well. Also I found the narration complimented the story perfectly

    MMmmm.....pulpy!
    Standard Mason
The Swallow was typical Gardner with a nicely complex plot with the identity of the "bad guy" shifting more than once. But still a routine read. The other pulp stories included were just too dated to be of interest.
    Rating a Perry Mason book
I love all Perry Mason novels, and this was certainly an interesting one. I'm glad to see it in Kindle edition. I wish all his novels were. Earle Stanley Gardner also wrote under the pen-name of A. A. Fair. I would love to see those books in Kindle edition as well. Thank you.

This is another good mystery story by Erle Stanley Gardner
This is another good mystery story by Erle Stanley Gardner. I especially like his Perry Mason series. I like to try to figure out who 'dunnit' before I get to the end of the book. I failed this time. There was one thing that Perry Mason does that was not entirely ethical, which surprised me. Alto the series was written years ago you would not realize it, except for the mention of the rotary phone and the manual typewriter! I will read it again at some later date. I liked it that well.
