    Resumen del editor:
Londres.

    Interesting Story
What made the experience of listening to Arte en la Sange: Una aventura de Sherlock Holmes [Art in the Blood: A Sherlock Holmes Adventure] the most enjoyable?
Thoroughly enjoyed the narrator's Latin American accent--but definitely need to caveat that statement--listening to the narrator portray a character in the book with a french accent was downright unpleasant.
It was definitely a fun read and I would have given it more stars if it wasn't for all the times I cringed at the attemps to render a french accent

Title: Charles Paris: A Decent Interval
    Subtitle: A BBC Radio 4 Full-Cast Dramatisation
    Author: Simon Brett
    Narrator: Bill Nighy
    Format: Original Recording
Length: 1 hr and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-07-16
    Publisher: BBC Worldwide Ltd
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 50 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of Simon Brett's entertaining crime novel, starring Bill Nighy.
Charles Paris has been 'resting' for quite a while, so he's relieved when he is cast as Ghost of Hamlet's Father and First Gravedigger in a touring production of Hamlet. But rehearsals are a little tense - the lead roles of Hamlet and Ophelia are played by a reality TV contestant and TV talent show winner respectively, and their opinions on celebrity and the theatre differ somewhat from those of the more experienced members of the cast.
The show is barely on the road before tragedy strikes - just before opening night, part of the set collapses, seriously injuring one of the actors. Then another member of the cast is found dead. It's up to Charles Paris to turn detective and investigate the mystery, but with almost everyone having a motive for murder, will he ever track down the real killer?
Bill Nighy stars as Charles Paris, with Suzanne Burden as Frances, in this dramatisation by Jeremy Front.
    Duration: two hours.
    Members Reviews:
    Another excellent dramatization
I was really happy to find this as I love all the Simon Brett stories about Charles Paris. Bill Nighy does an excellent job with the rest of the cast to bring these amusing murder mysteries to life. The sounds of London are spot on and the production values excellent.
    Fantastic Production
The cast is superb, the writing is sharp and funny and the production values are the best that you can get. I highly recommend.
    love, love, love this series!
with a terrific cast, a great story. it's incredibly funny. more, please! and oh, bill nighy!!!
    I love this series!!
Would you listen to Charles Paris: A Decent Interval again? Why?
Yes!! Great acting from the entire cast and fantastic production values overall. The stories are just the right mix of drama/mystery and humor.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes. Another clever plot (and you gotta love the acknowledgement that trouble follows Charles wherever he goes).
Which character as performed by Bill Nighy was your favorite?
You gotta love Charles Paris. Bill Nighy plays the aging alcoholic actor/ladies man turned amateur sleuth just right, in my opinion. He's the poor man's Poirot!!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reactions. It's a light mystery with just the right mix of drama and humor.
    Any additional comments?
I own every episode of this series. I've listened to each episode multiple times (great for background at work). I hope the series continues!!!
    Updated (thank God)
By now Charles Paris would be 87, and probably pinching care assistant's bottoms, if he hadn't been reborn, like Dr Who, in the person of Bill Nighy. He's much funnier, less sexually predatory, sexist, uncomfortable with LGBT people, (people of colour aren't in his universe) snobbish and suspicious than his original avatar.
This version is self aware humorous and capable of love, even though he's not good at it. His relationship with Frances has two sides; she's not the stooge of the novels, but a fully rounded woman capable of refusing his advances or accepting them on her own terms.

En a-t-on parlé de l'Île du Nègre ! Elle avait, selon certains, été achetée par une star de Hollywood. Peregrine Jay, owner of the Dolphin Theatre, is putting on a magnificent production of Macbeth, the play that, superstition says, always brings bad luck.
But one night the claymore swings, and the dummy's head is more than real: murder behind the scene.
Luckily, Chief Superintendent Roderick Alleyn is in the audience....
    Members Reviews:
Reflects Ngaio Marsh's interest in Macbeth
For those who already enjoy Ngaio Marsh's stories, this brings together her love of the theater, her love of Macbeth, her varied interests in the power of things and old rituals, and a mystery. Not only who did it but how it was done.
The very detailed presentation of the staging of this great play may be tedious for those who have not become intrigued by the Shakespeare play of 'Macbeth' .For them it may be as interesting as railway time tables, yet the detail and the personalities do matter.
    Great Aside From Incorrect Pronunciation
What did you love best about Light Thickens?
It's a great mystery, with well-rounded characters. Alleyn is not as prevalent as usual, but it's made to work with another character to the fore.
What other book might you compare Light Thickens to and why?
Any other Marsh, Christie, or James title. It's a classic murder mystery.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
I was really irritated that he had not made the slightest effort to get the Mori pronunciation even remotely correct. Normally Franks is really good, but the complete ignorance of one of the most easily mastered sets of sounds on the planet was really rubbish, especially given that there are resources for learning this readily available. A real let-down.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    No.
    Any additional comments?
    Franks does great voices.
    A lot of fun!
If you love theater in general, or more specifically love Macbeth, like I do, there is much to like, the murder mystery itself is a tad predictable. But fun regardless.
    Disappointing
It seems that Ngaio Marsh became more deeply involved in theater herself and simultaneously ran out of plots for compelling mysteries. This is not her best. In fact, it is probably one of the least successful overall. No idea what the title has to do with the story? But plot swirls around Macbeth. Alleyne is incidental. Much back and forth and repetition. No way to redeem it. It's an homage to production of Macbeth and little more.
    slow
    slow and predictable. ....... .....

    Publisher's Summary:
Presenting Edgar Award-winning editor Otto Penzler's latest anthology, The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes Stories, the largest collection of Sherlockian tales ever.
Arguably no other character in history has been so enduringly popular as Sherlock Holmes. From his first appearance in Arthur Conan Doyle's 1887 novella A Study in Scarlet, fans have loved reading and listening about him - and writers have loved writing about him. Here, Otto Penzler collects 83 wonderful stories about Holmes and Dr. John Watson, the majority of which will be new to listeners. Inside this audio are tales by acclaimed Sherlockians Leslie S. Klinger, Laurie R. King, Lyndsay Faye, and Daniel Stashower; pastiches by literary luminaries both classic (Kenneth Millar, P. G. Wodehouse, Dorothy B. Hughes) and current (Anne Perry, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman); and parodies by Conan Doyle's contemporaries James M. Barrie, O. Henry, and August Derleth.
    Members Reviews:
    LAME
What disappointed you about The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes Stories?
Stories definitely not up to Arthur Conan Doyle quality.
"Full Cast" seems to mean each little tale is read solo by a different person who must have been really hard up to participate in this lagniappe. Occasionally two or three actors, but mostly not.
What do you think your next listen will be?
    Not this
What didnt you like about Nicholas Guy Smith and full cast s performance?
The performances could not overcome the thudding dullness of the stories.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Big Book of Sherlock Holmes Stories?
    Most of them
    Any additional comments?
Glad I got it for 1 credit rather than $60
    too much crap
the good stories are good and the paradies are awful. would be much better with only the good stories. or at least broken up so you can easily skip the bad ones
    Enjoyed every moment!
Loved the narration. Loved the variety of stories. I find the diverse stories involving the adventures of Holmes and Watson fascinating. Even the short parodies are interesting. I may be biased as I seem to love all things Sherlock. The narration by Nicholas Guy Smith was excellent. Smart is the new sexy. An excellent addition to anyone's collection.
the Big Book of sherlock Holmes stories
The lists of so many authors becomes confusing after a while. The stories are well written and true to sherlock' s character. Take leisurely time when being leisurely.
    Very Disappointing
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Large num b Dr of stories that are nothing like the real Sherlock Holmes stories

    Publisher's Summary:
Lord and Lady Baaden-Boomethistle have been in residence for some weeks now, and the villagers are hoping for a return to the good old days, when the lord of the manor sprinkled benefits across the village like fairy dust. Father Max Tudor's invitation to dinner at the hall comes as a welcome novelty; it will be his first time meeting the famous family that once held sway in the area. Before he has time to starch his clerical collar and organize a babysitter, a sudden and suspicious death intervenes, and the handsome vicar's talent for sorting through clues to a murder is once again called into play in this charming and clever story.
    Critic Reviews:
"At least one head rolls in clergyman/detective Max Tudor's fifth seasonally themed case...[an] enjoyable blend of whimsy and homicide." (
    Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
Another enjoyable story of Father Max
For those who've read other books in this series, this installment is no disappointment. Nether Monkslip continues to enhance its status as a place for spiritual and physical healing.....and too many murders. This series is sometimes wildly plotted with a muddying number of suspects and possible motives. However, the development of the main characters continues to deepen, and the Epilogue provided tantalizing suggestions about the continuation of the story line.
    Another wonderful story by G.M.Malliet
What made the experience of listening to The Haunted Season the most enjoyable?
The author's reading of this book, like all the other Max Tudor mysteries, is great.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The Max Tudor mysteries are excellent, taken as individual books, but the greatest fun is in reading/listening from the first book, in succession. The author has fabulous twists and turns and the characters are well developed.
What does Michael Page bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Michael Page - I can really envision the characters by the way he uses his voice.
Although - there are some recording edits called for in the first few chapters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I think it's an 8-hour book, right? impossible.
    Any additional comments?
These books are terrific to listen to while driving on a long work commute, to end the day, while doing chores, or just hanging around. Fantastic. Always sorry when they're over.
    Another winner
I liked this as I have all of this series. I just love Max and I half hope that we get a prequel at some point with more of his MI5 story.
As with most of the Max series I didn't figure out the murderer. I was going in a totally different direction. I liked the excitement at the end. And the last two sentences? I need the next book now!!!
The narration, again, was perfect. I could listen to Michael Page all day long. Well, I guess I have.
Keep writing, Ms Malliet. We need more Max.
    Not quite as good
A bit disappointed in this one. I found the plot a little contrived and the characterisations overdone. I was most disappointed in the use of American terms used in a story set in an English village, for example "fall" for Autumn and "diaper" for nappy. I know a lot of readers may be American but verisimilitude needs the correct terms
    It had great potential, but...
This, as with most of her books, I couldn't wait to listen to.

    Publisher's Summary:
The Final Problem by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Adapted by Nicholas Briggs.
Sherlock Holmes visits his good friend, Dr. John Watson...but Holmes is not his usual composed and supremely confident self. He is a hunted man.
Having unearthed the criminal mastermind behind the greatest crimes in the land, Holmes has found himself a fugitive. But the great detective already has a plan in motion. It will not be long before his arch foe, Professor Moriarty, is in custody. If only Holmes and Watson can manage to stay alive in the meantime.
The Empty House by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Adapted by Nicholas Briggs.
Still lamenting the death of his valued friend and colleague, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson finds himself intrigued by a murder case. But as he begins his investigations, a strange old man enters his consulting room.
Could it be that Sherlock Holmes is back from the dead and, even now, working to solve a murder? The game is once again afoot!
    Critic Reviews:
"The real revelation is Nicholas Briggs's performance as Holmes. Confident and assured, yet understated, and shot through with just the right amount of emotion, bravado and eccentricity, Briggs has delivered one of the definitive portrayals of the character...along with Rathbone, Brett and Lewellyn." (Mass Movement Magazine)
"Briggs, who had played Holmes on stage with style and authority, takes the lead in the rest of the Big Finish productions, with Richard Earl as his stalwart Watson." (The Sherlock Holmes Miscellany by Roger Johnson and Jean Upton)
"Richard Earl is masterful as Watson, carrying the burden of the story. He sounds a youngish and bright version of Holmess friend and has a wonderful way of subtly bringing the action to life. Nick Briggs is a fine Holmes, enigmatic and dramatic by turns.... If you like your dramatised Holmes unadulterated, strong on atmosphere and rich in detail, this is the CD for you." (The Sherlock Holmes Journal)
    Members Reviews:
    Sherlock Holmes comes alive!
Where does Sherlock Holmes - The Final Problem and The Empty House rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Sherlock Holmes - The Final Problem and The Empty House are two of the best Holmes stories Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote. He wrote the Final Problem to kill of his detective, but his readers demanded his return. As a result Doyle resurrected his detective in The Empty House.
What other book might you compare Sherlock Holmes - The Final Problem and The Empty House to and why?
Of the other Sherlock Holmes stories written by Doyle and others, these two stories bring the "death", then resurrection of a character. This has been imitated in other series books, movies, and television. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's method serves as a template for writers as a resource.
What about the narratorss performance did you like?
Nicolas Briggs performance as Sherlock Holmes keeps the excellent standard for portrayals that is on equal footing with Basil Rathbone, and Jeremy Brett's interpretation of the famed detective. Briggs brings to Holmes the logical deduction and motivations that make the detective more lifelike and approachable. Richard Earl's performance as Dr. Watson is also on a high level with Nigel Bruce, David Burke, and Edward Hardwicke's renditions of the good doctor.

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 29 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
The national burglar of France faces off against the national detective of England in two unforgettable stories. Originally released as Arsene Lupin vs. Herlock Sholmes because of copyright issues, we have taken the liberty of replacing the counterfeit names originally published with those of the original sleuth himself, Sherlock Holmes (in the place of Herlock Sholmes) and his faithful Dr. Watson (in the place of Wilson). The result is an experience for the ages that you won't want to miss.
Three desperate crimes each proclaim the orchestration of Arsene Lupin (master of disguise, historian, fine-art expert, and gentleman thief). How did he do this, given their sheer impossibility and absolute lack of clues? All three of these burglaries couldn't have logically happened, and the valuable pieces are, indeed, missing. Though Inspector Ganimard, who has already arrested Lupin once, does his very best, he is at a complete loss. Finally, the great Sherlock Holmes himself is brought in to bring the elusive Lupin to justice.
Both are at the very pinnacles of their respective professions, and each gives as well as he gets in this royal battle of wits. Don't miss this extravagant game of plot and counterplot with two of the greatest characters in the mystery genre: Sherlock Holmes and Arsene Lupin.

    May the Best Mind Win
I absolutely loved Maurice LeBlancs first Arsene Lupin Book, The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsene Lupin, so naturally I had to pick up the sequel! Plus, B. J. Harrison returns to continue his outstanding narration from the previous book!
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle actually sued LeBlanc for putting Sherlock Holmes into this novel without his permission, but Id forgive LeBlancs intellectual property theft since he is clearly a huge fan of the detective. Plus, Holmes scholars will recall that several stories make references to Holmes visiting France, so in my opinion this book should be considered canonical.
Im not sure LeBlanc gets Holmes personally down perfectly, he certainly messes up Watsons doting characterization, but its absolutely spectacular to watch the worlds greatest detective go up against the worlds greatest thief. This book feels like watching two Chess masters doing battle across an entire country. If that sounds interesting to you, you must check this one out. What more are you waiting for? Beyond highly recommended!
Lupin vs (A bellow average adaptation of) Holmes
Is there anything you would change about this book?
In terms of the performance it was great. But the Sherlock Holmes... it pains me to listen somtimes. Holmes in this is a jerk. He aragonat, shallow, and a bully. Just not what I hoped from a writer who was a close contemporary of the original writing of Sherlock Holmes. Lupin barley shows up in this and is always very anoying except for the end of the blue diamond. The story also takes place in first person of Holmes. That ruins a lot of the observation and deduction aspects of Holmes which he is known for. If your a die hard fan of The True Sherlock Holmes (Not BBC crap or CBS's elementary or Robert Downey Jr) you probably won't like this for the Holmes aspect. Lupin himself is an awsome charecter and doesn't get the stage time like he should.

    Narrator: Cassandra Campbell
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 17 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-09-15
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 28 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Classic Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
A historical mystery featuring the witty and wily Mary Handley, the first woman detective in Brooklyn, as she tries to prove herself in a man's world while solving a high-profile murder.
Mary Handley is a not your typical late-19th century lady. She's fiery, clever, daring - and she's not about to conform to the gender norms of the day. Not long after being fired from her job at the hat factory for insubordinate behavior, Mary finds herself at the murder scene of Charles Goodrich, the brother of a prominent alderman and former bookkeeper of Thomas Edison. When Mary proves her acumen as a sleuth, she is hired by the Brooklyn police department - as the city's first policewoman - to solve the crime. The top brass of the department expect her to fail, but Mary has other plans. As she delves into the mystery, she finds herself questioning the likes of J. P. Morgan, Thomas Edison, and Nikola Tesla. Mary soon discovers the key to solving the case goes well beyond finding a murderer and depends on her ability to unearth the machinations of the city's most prominent and respected public figures: men who will go to great lengths to protect their secrets.
Much like Mr. Churchill's Secretary and Maisie Dobbs, Second Street Station presents a portrait of a world plunging into modernity through the eyes of a clever female sleuth. Mary Handley is an unforgettable protagonist whose wit, humor, and charm will delight listeners from the very first minute.
    Critic Reviews:
"A promising series kickoff that presents a morally strong heroine with a mystery that cleverly intertwines fact and fiction." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Mary Handley, an unconventional nineteenth-century female sleuth whom readers are sure to love...overcomes trained killers - using her jujitsu skills and quick wits - and even finds time to take a lover, in defiance of social propriety. Readers won't expect the surprise denouement as Handley steals the show and guarantees readership for a sequel." (Booklist)
"Second Street Station is a great read. Following Mary Handley through this Victorian adventure makes you feel like you've found some lost Sherlock Holmes story. It's impressive that the characters, many based on actual historical figures, are always funny, but the greatest delight is the mystery itself." (Matthew Weiner, creator of Mad Men)
    Members Reviews:
    Not quite there ...
Although a worthy topic for this well-researched historical fiction, Second Street Station seemed awkward to me. I was off-put by the "Bowler Hat" and "Mustache" names and occasionally cringed at phrases such as one describing a man as eager as a dog in heat. Could I have misheard that? Hope so! Cassandra Campbell did a fine job with challenging material; like the book, however, her narration couldn't reduce the tension between melodrama and mystery.
    I'll admit it - I couldn't finish it.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
    Better writing, better narration.
What could Lawrence H. Levy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Better writing, for example, if the author knew the difference between the word "expletive" and "explanation" which was used incorrectly about 30 minutes into it. Also there were more cliche's than I can stand, even for light entertainment.
