A stunning modern-day fairy tale from acclaimed author Anne Ursu....
Once upon a time, Hazel and Jack were best friends. But that was before he stopped talking to her and disappeared into a forest with a mysterious woman made of ice. Now it's up to Hazel to go in after him. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, Breadcrumbs is a story of the struggle to hold on, and the things we leave behind.

    Fantastic read for all ages
Middle grade novels are not just for tweens! If you don't believe me then read or listen to Breadcrumbs! I adore Hazel! Hazel is a fifth grader whose parents recently split and has to deal with many changes including a new school. Hazel is unpopular and gets picked on, but what makes things easier is her best friend Jack. He has been there for the hardest points in her life.
Except one day everything changes and Jack decides not to be her friend anymore. He even becomes close with the kids who bully Hazel. Hazel is sure Jack would never just change for no apparent reason and something must be wrong. How could she possibly lose him. When Jack acts cold to her I thought about what Hazel must be going through and I was close to tears.
Shortly after Jack's strange behavior towards Hazel, he stops showing up to school and his parents say that he moved with a distant aunt. Hazel knows he would never just leave. One of the bullies tells Hazel that he saw Jack walking into the woods with a woman who was dressed completely in white and seemed cold. Hazel can't believe that Jack would leave with anyone into the woods much less someone who she believes is an Ice Queen. Hazel's journey to get her best friend back is going to be a dangerous and possibly deadly journey, but one she is willing to take to save her friend.
Breadcrumbs won my heart and I can see myself re-reading this book many times over. I'm also excited to share this with my nephew when he is older. I have read and listened to Breadcrumbs and both times I loved it.
Beautiful story if you can get past funky narrator
Would you listen to Breadcrumbs again? Why?
    No, but I don't re-listen to audiobooks.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Hazel. Beautifully written, relatable character.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kirby Heyborne?
The narrator has a voice that sounds oddly like one of those phone voices that sounds out words bizarrely. He extends vowels in a way that is very strange at first, but I did get used to it. He does most of his characters well, though.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it is a beautiful story.
    Breadcrumbs
This book was the best fantasy book I have ever read. I wouldReccomend this book for you
    Engaging even for adults
I wanted to experience a book written for young people and I feared I would be bored. However. the story was engaging and feelings well-expressed on a deeper level. The ending felt rushed and too easy to bring about resolution. A young person should be able to identify with the characters.
    Breadcrumbs
For a younger audience. My granddaughter liked it as it's set in an area where we do live. That was fun. It is a retelling of the story of the ice queen for modern day. The story itself is very real for kids today dealing with friendship, school and family issues. I enjoyed it very much & my granddaughter did too.

"These violent delights have violent ends
And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,
    Which as they kiss consume."
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
The most tragic love story in history....
Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love.
    From the Hardcover edition.

Lots to like in this book
    My Summary:
That story Shakespeare wrote about that tragic young couple may not of been exactly accurate. Romeo and Juliet didn't end in that tomb so long ago, no they are both here now fighting against each other in an eternal struggle for/against love. Juliet died at the hand of her beloved Romeo but was granted immortality and joined the Ambassadors of Light to help protect the same tragic outcome from happening to other soul mates. Romeo is trying to find her and kill her for good this time. Or is he? What could have caused Romeo to do such a thing in the first place? And after 700 years of this battle, are both of them tired of the fight?
    My Thoughts:
3 1/2 stars - Lots to like in this one
So I'm starting with the narrator for this book since I listened to it. I've listened to this narrator before. She's not my favorite. Narrators are such a personal thing that I always recommend you listen to the sample before you buy the book. Of course I never follow that rule myself. If I had, I probably would have read the book instead. Not that she's a bad narrator, I just don't care for her voice.
Now the book. I'm totally torn between 3 and 4 stars which means it's a solid 3 1/2! Let me explain why I'm torn. First, I loved the idea of this story. While Shakespeare has always intrigued me, I just couldn't get into the tragedy thing. I'm more of a happily ever after or at least most people are still alive kind of girl. But using that tragedy with a little paranormal thrown in the mix is an epic idea! I may have struggled with Romeo doing what he did in this version to get them where they are but I guess I can sorta of understand why he did it.
I loved some of the characters a lot. Especially Ben. Adorable and totally misunderstood as a bad boy, Ben is the perfect guy to step in and help Juliet (playing Ariel). Totally cute, Ben is Hispanic and he sometimes throws in some Spanish which I loved. He is protective and loyal to his friends and the stranger on the side of the road who's in trouble. Love that about him.
The story has some twists and turns that make it interesting and had my total attention. I figured out a few things, which is normal for me. The ending was a little bit of a surprise. Really wasn't expecting that's how it would end. I like the ending.
Now, there was one thing that kept this book from being a 4 star book for me.

Briony has a secret. She believes her secret killed her stepmother, destroyed her twin sisters mind, and threatens all the children in the Swampsea. She yearns to be rid of her terrible secret, but risks being hanged if she tells a soul. Thats what happens to witches: Theyre hanged by the neck until dead.
Then Eldric arrives - Eldric with his golden mane and lion eyes and electric energy - and he refuses to believe anything dark about Briony. But he wonders whats been buried beneath her self-hatred, hidden in Roses mangled thoughts, and whispered about by the Old Ones. And Briony wonders how Eldric can make her want to cry.
Especially when everyone knows witches can't cry.
A wild, haunting mystery and romance that is as beautifully written as it is captivating.
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent narration!
To say that Chime is unusual doesn't quite do justice to this unique and enchanting story. Franny Billingsley created a world of witches and mysteries set in a small marsh-side village that is coming into violent contact with the industrial revolution of the early 1900s. There is definitely a theme of old ways versus new industry as the leadership in the village wants to drain the swamp for railroad access. Watching all of this is Briony, who has a vast reserve of self-hatred fed by her sister's mental condition and her step-mother's death. Much of Briony's observations revolve around her belief that she is inherently evil, but there is still the feeling that she is trying to convince herself that it's true. One of the very best things about this book is Eldric. There is the opposite of instalove in this story. Eldric is a mystery to Briony and her fascination with his manner and her jealousy of his ability to live such a free life draws her to him. Their romance is very slow and, more often than not, she is pushing him away. Their slowly building relationship was one of the sweetest and most satisfying romances I have read. They are both very flawed, but not without the desire to rescue each other, and rescue each other they do.
As narrator, Susan Duerden is outstanding. So much of the lexicon of British English can be told through accent and it was the accents that made this story. Briony, Eldric, et al are the more educated class, while the locals speak in a rougher cadence. Ms. Duerden captured this perfectly and I am certain that my love of this book is due, in large part, to her narration. To be honest, I am not sure what I would have thought of this book had I read it. However, as an audiobook it is outstanding. So much of the story seemed to reside in the rhythm of the language and the repetitiveness of Briony's tortured inner thoughts. It is a book that lends itself perfectly to audio and if you haven't read it, I give this audiobook my highest recommendation.
    Beautiful writing & story
If you could sum up Chime in three words, what would they be?
    Brutally honest, Dark, & lovely.
What about Susan Duerdens performance did you like?
Great voices, tone, inflection. Well done.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Well, "if a heart really did have strings, (it did) pull mine." --Briony
    Any additional comments?
I truly loved this story. I still feel like the swamp is oozing about me. The author did a great job being in Briony's head. She's dark and lovely. The story is about mistakes and secrets.

    What just happened?
I love this series but wonder what happened with this book? It's like it was half finished. The plot was slow, the action boring and the romance not there at all? Like a totally different writer??
    Ok...Not What I Expected
I absolutely loved the last book and I had such high hopes for this book, but it was just....ok. It didn't answer a lot of questions and I felt that it just kept me wondering what was going on. So many other things could have happened, but they didn't. I am hoping that the next book is better. Good series, but a little disappointed.

They work hard to conceal their luminous glow, superhuman powers, and, most dangerous of all, their wings, all the while avoiding all human attachments.
Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and neither of them is able to resist the attraction between them. Gabriel and Ivy do everything in their power to intervene, but the bond between Xavier and Bethany seems too strong.
The angels mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening. Will love ruin Bethany or save her?

The 17-year-old authors angel mythology is solid . . . there never seem to be enough lengthy tomes to satisfy the legions of paranormal-romance fans, and this first title of a planned trilogy fits the bill. (Booklist)

Love Conquers All... Twilight for Christian teens
There are a few problems with this story that was about it get it rated 3 stars but then I read that the author was 17 years old. For a someone so young, she pulled it off. So I split this into two reviews to be honest about the book.
For Audience A: older kids and young teens or moms looking for something their kids can read. This is a lovely story about an angel who falls in love with a boy... without falling. It's cute, and it's guarded enough that it touches on subjects like sex but doesn't show any. Not much fowl language - I'd definately give this to my 13 year old neice.
For Audience B: anyone over 16 looking for a Twilight substitue. This is Twilight with wings... even down to the glittery pale skin. The plot is simple and the characters are a bit shallow... their course is too easy. I find it hard to believe that an angel without free will can so easily ignore a mission and do things she shouldn't- like fall in love with a human. There should be consequences but there are none. It bothered me that one of the angels was the archangel Gabriel. Like he had nothing better to do than go live as a music teacher in a high school. If it were another angel I wouldn't have minded. I also find it hard to believe that angels land in an area and live undercover to watch humans... that ruins the concept of guardian angels who do just that. It also bothered me that they did nothing until the deus ex machina of an ending.
For both audiences, please be aware of the Christian aspect of this book. It's not preachy, but prayers and talks about God do happen. Personally I think current authors trying to pull off a story about angels and keeping religion out of it seem a bit foolish, so this was okay with me. I know if I ran into an angel, fallen or not, I'd be pelting them with questions about Heaven, Hell, creation and everything.
The author read this herself. She did a good job, but I'd rather someone else do it unless the book is a biography.
    Enjoyable
This is a simple book. Its, as others have said, Twilight with angles instead of Vampires. The main character, Bethany, seems far too clueless and dependent on her human boyfriend. Overall I did enjoy it. Nice fantasy world to escape to for a few hours while I was at work. Once I found out that the author was only 17 when she wrote this book everything made more sense. Lol. Author is also the narrator, and I think she did a very good job.

    Excellent
This story has a very different twist on the whole "Immortal" thing. It is actually a beautifully told story that has everything: love, history, magic, self growth and maturity... Very refreshing. Nasty is hillarious and heart breaking at the same time. I can't wait for the sequel!
Great Start to a new series
I love Cate Tiernan, her Sweep Series is one of my favorites, this one took a little for me to get into but, now I am hooked. I sure hope the next book in this series comes out soon because I really want to know what happens next!! There wasnt a huge cliffhanger at the end just kind of a knowing that the story is not done.
I listened to this on audio with narrator Kelly Lintz she was a new narrator for me and I thought she did a really good job and I hope she continues to narrate this series.
Awesome to hear the stories being told.
Would you listen to Immortal Beloved again? Why?
    Yes, I already have.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything. The wonderful detail and full plot.
Which character as performed by Kelly Lintz was your favorite?
Nasty. Loved Loved her character and the way it was spoken.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Having her realize and feel everything that she has ignored.
    Any additional comments?
I'm not a teen. I am middle age and this series rocks! The writer is truly talented.
    WORTHY OF MORE RECOGNITION
    WORTHY OF MORE RECOGNITION
I dont even know how to explain myself in coherent words I feel like I just want to shake people and yell WHY HAVE YOU NOT LISTENED TO THIS YET??? WHY DO WE ONLY HAVE 64 TOTAL RATINGS?!? STOP IT. RIGHT NOW. AND GET THIS But, alas, I cannot. SO heres your verbal beating! Do you love snaky sarcastic flawed heroines? Slow burn romance? Solid, believable and wicked interesting plot lines? Masterfully crafted character development? Are you a fan of Kate Daniels & Mercy Thompson? If you answered YES to even just ONE of those questions then I feel there is NO REASON you shouldnt be listening right now. I will clarify and say that the Immortal Beloved series isnt exactly similar to the two fabulous titles mentioned above. What IS SIMILAR is the non-stop awesomeness, the subtlety snarky dialogue that is literally laugh out loud (this series maybe even more than the others. If you like witty banter then I can guarantee that you will indeed LAUGH OUT LOUD) and intricate plot lines. I dont even really know how this is categorized but it isnt YA or ROMANCE. I would call it a SOLID URBAN FANTASY.

    Good Listen
In this installment of the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent, Kaylee and her boyfriend, Nash, discover that someone is selling demon's breath to their fellow high school students as the newest and coolest drug. And, people are dying. Now, they're in a race to find the culprit before someone else dies. Not to mention that Kaylee's world gets shattered when things hit way too close to home and she's forced to make decisions no person should have to face.
I get more and more invested in these characters with every book. This one was my favorite of the books. Hopefully, Rachel Vincent does not intend on ending the series any time soon as I could easily pick up the next book and start listening right now. I think that Rachel Vincent does a very good job of developing the characters with each book. This time, I found myself wishing for something to happen that I never would have suspected but, alas, I can't tell you what that is or I might spoil things for somebody. Now, if somebody's read them and wants to talk, let me know. Oh, yeah, Amanda Roncini does an excellent job narrating as well.
Great book and on point Narration!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, because it was not a series I would have picked on its own, I chose it because Amanda Ronconi was the narrator.
What other book might you compare My Soul to Keep to and why?
I can't think of one to compare it too. It's original.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Any additional comments?
I hope people give this book a chance not just because of Ronconi but bc it is actually a great series as well.
    awesome
l love it. very heart touching and down to earth. hits on a subject that so many people are facing on a day-to-day basis.
    Great series
I love the universe of this series. I enjoyed the way the reader protrayed the characters as well as the author.
This book shows growth in the main character from the first two books. By the end of the book she is better standing up for herself and very comfortable in her abilities.
The author takes you through a more extensive emotional journey than in the previous two books though.
    3rd Times the Charm
Good as the 1st two books! Easy to follow series. Good series to get into.

I really tried not to listen to it all in one sitting because I didn't want it to end..
    Pleasantly surprised
Where does City of Bones rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I normally consume plenty of Sci-Fi so I wanted a little break into the fantasy, this book was a great choice. I've seen the trailer for the upcoming film and I thought I would read (hear) the book before the story was ruined. There is plenty of Teenage angst in this book and it did peeve me off a little to have to relieve some of uncomfortable days, but this was balanced with a good deal of action and a evolving and interesting back story. There is good potential here and I can see why a movie company would love to kick off a franchise here. Let's hope that they stay true to the story (Potter Style).
I want to recommend this book to readers (listeners) who like to stay within the vampire, werewolf, witch and warlock sort of genre. No reinventing here but a solid story line so far.
    Fern
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jase, the rebel without one cause type, and his cause is Demon Hunting.
What three words best describe Ari Graynors voice?
I love her Brooklyn accent and she managed to nail all the girl voices.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
They are so let's hope is a good one.
    Spellbinding
Where does City of Bones rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
The best scifi fantasy book for the year
What other book might you compare City of Bones to and why?
Harry potter crossed with twilight and the hobbit
What does Ari Graynor bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
a comprehensive depth to the story

Guys' brains are like waffles - they keep their lives compartmentalized in boxes. Girls'brains are like spaghetti - everything in their life is connected to everything else. This book for teens includes brain development, social habits, differences in emotions, and relationship building skills for teens to develop early in their life. Loaded with humor and fun examples, this is a great way for teens to learn about healthy relationships with the opposite sex.

Absolutely love this book, every teenager should read this book! I have given this book to several people and advised them to read it. The sooner that we learn to communicate and understand the opposite sex the better future relationships will be.

    Good background listening
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I listened to this book while doing yardwork. It kept me engaged enough while still allowing me to focus on manual labor tasks. The characters were somewhat weak and under-dimensional, but I was interested enough in the storyline to keep listening. It's a decent listen if you're doing other things. The target demographic for the writing level/style is perhaps age 12-14.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The most interesting was the interactions between Oscar and Nia. The least interesting was the character of the father, whose actions kept imposing on my suspension of disbelief.
What does John Lavelle bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His voice was well suited to achieve the 'teenage' vibe of the book. I thought he did well, speaking at a good pace and distiguishing the voices so that I could tell which character was speaking.
Do you think Candor needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I would probably listen to a follow-up, as I was unsatisfied with the ending. But I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it.
Cloying - and I'm usually not too critical
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I am a very easy going audible listener - I like almost anything - so I wanted to make sure I reviewed this because it stands out to me as a particularly bad audiobook. The story itself has the potential to be interesting but the writing is juvenile. I have nothing against YA fiction (Hunger Games, for example, is amazing, as well as a book called Dare Me that I recently tried). However, in this case, it felt very dumbed down. Additionally, and, again, I am not usually too picky about my audible books, the narrator really bothered me. Mainly because every female that he gave a voice to sounded like a weird Valley Girl/Mall Chick bimbo - even the heroine of the story, which I am sure was not the author's intent. It was basically just an annoying listening experience so I wanted fellow listeners to be warned.
Has Candor turned you off from other books in this genre?
    Not at all.
Would you be willing to try another one of John Lavelles performances?
Perhaps - I think the issues were mostly with the material. But I won't seek out a book narrated by him just to hear him (as I do with other readers).
What character would you cut from Candor?
Honestly? They were all pretty one dimensional.
    Any additional comments?
Sorry - I don't want to be mean - I just want to help people to have a good listening experience. Overall I really enjoy audible.
    predictable but fun to read
Yes, very predictable although book is well written and interesting so you hope it would finish in an unexpected way. Reader is very good .
