Nothing has been the same since Caleb Becker left a party drunk, got behind the wheel, and hit Maggie Armstrong. Even after months of painful physical therapy, Maggie walks with a limp. Her social life is nil and a scholarship to study abroad - her chance to escape everyone and their pitying stares - has been canceled.
After a year in juvenile jail, Calebs free...if freedom means endless nagging from a transition coach and the prying eyes of the entire town. Coming home should feel good, but his family and ex-girlfriend seem like strangers.
Caleb and Maggie are outsiders, pigeon-holed as "criminal" and "freak". Then the truth emerges about what really happened the night of the accident and, once again, everything changes. Its a bleak and tortuous journey for Caleb and Maggie, yet they end up finding comfort and strength from a surprising source: each other.

    LOVE Simone Elkeles
Great Read (well listen) as always! I actually started backwards with the Perfect Chemistry series and have also listened to Wild Cards. I loved how a villain in this book actually has a whole book about him in another story. I am 33 years old but love teen romance novels. The only change I would make to most of the Elkeles books is that the characters start the relationship a little sooner. In this book they did. Perfect book to me. The Perfect Chemistry series is still my favorite, but I love them all!
    10-10

    Genres: Teens, Romance & Friendship
    Publisher's Summary:
This is a story about love, but not the kind of love you think. Youll see
In the lush and magical Pacific Northwest live two best friends who grew up like sisters: charismatic, mercurial, and beautiful Aurora, and the devoted, watchful narrator. Each of them is incomplete without the other.
But their unbreakable bond is challenged when a mysterious and gifted musician named Jack comes between them.
His music is like nothing I have ever heard. It is like the ocean surging, the wind that blows across the open water, the far call of gulls.
Suddenly, each girl must decide what matters most: friendship, or love. What both girls dont know is that the stakes are even higher than either of them could have imagined. Theyre not the only ones who have noticed Jacks gift; his music has awakened an ancient evil - and a world both above and below which may not be mythical at all. We have paved over the ancient world but that does not mean we have erased it. The real and the mystical; the romantic and the heartbreaking all begin to swirl together in All Our Pretty Songs, Sarah McCarry's brilliant debut, carrying the twoon journey that is both enthralling and terrifying. And its up to the narrator to protect the people she loves - if she can.
    Critic Reviews:
"McCarry's beautifully rich narrative is smooth and seductive...effortlessy dropping references to authors from Rousseau to Block.... Goths and romantics both will eagerly await the second installment of this suspenseful planned trilogy." (Booklist)
"[A] lush, spooky contemporary fairy tale...the characters and landscapes come to life through careful detail and precise, poetic language. Haunting, otherworldly and heartbreaking. (Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
The audio file is terribly edited.
Narrator comments, coughs, etc. not edited out. I think you have to be a little younger than me to appreciate the story fully. Maybe if I'd been a wilder teenager, or young enough that Kurt Cobain's story is as historic for me as Jimi Hendrix's, but this story feels more like a sketch than a complete picture, and maybe it's supposed to. The ending felt like the story broke the rules it had established, but maybe that unfairness is intentional as well. It's hard to say, but I will certainly be thinking about this story and what it means, and what my reaction means, for a good while.
    beautiful and poetic
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, great narration and beautiful story.
What did you like best about this story?
This book is both beautiful and dangerous. The supernatural elements of the book are woven throughout making you unsure whether it is really happening or if it is in the narrators imagination.
I found it interesting that you never learn the name of the narrator. We follow her, love with her, and are scared with her but we never learn her name, making her an enigma. I loved that she was mysterious, yet I felt like I knew her.
What does Renata Friedman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Her narration gave this story life. I'm currently reading the third book of this series and I am hearing Renata's voice for some of the characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Deal with the Devil

Through the eyes of the guys
STORY (YA romance) - I have been anxiously awaiting the release of The One and was pleased to find that Kiera Cass decided to give us something to placate us in the meantime. This book is two separate novellas that give the viewpoints of Maxon and Aspen. If you've been following The Selection series, you will know it's about a competition between 35 young girls wishing to become the wife of Prince Maxon. The main character, America, is in the competition but still has feelings for her old BF Aspen, who is a guard at the palace and watching the competition unfold. It's the ultimate love triangle, not to mention all the tension between the competitors. (Do you watch The Bachelor on TV?)
This book is enjoyable, but there's really nothing new that happens. It's basically the same story as The Selection and The Elite, but it tells where the guys were and what they were doing/thinking when events occurred. You will hear how nervous Maxon was about the competition and how he accidentally met America before it started and liked her immediately. Aspen's perspective is basically about his devotion to "Mare" (nickname for America) and his dislike for Prince Maxon.
If you love this series as I do, you might want to hear these short novellas but, as I said, the story doesn't really progress from the ending of the last book. There's a preview of The One at the end but, again, nothing really new happens.
PERFORMANCE - The stories of Maxon and Aspen each have a different narrator. They both do good jobs, though I think they pronounce the name of the country differently than Amy Rubinate. Amy is back to narrate the preview at the end.
OVERALL - If you are thinking about listening to this series, don't start here. Start with The Selection and then hear The Elite. The series is easy listening, romantic and thoroughly enjoyable. There is no sex and only a little mild violence, so it's recommended for all ages. Not a book for guys.
A great companion for fans of the Selection
If you are a fan of the Selection Trilogy then this is a great little nugget to get before the release of "The One". It doesn't add anything new to the storyline but it does give an inside look into the mind of Maxon (the prince) and Aspen (the guard). Not to mention the sneak peek section is well worth the purchase. This was a quick and enjoyable listen.
    4 stars!
    Waste!
If you have already read the series this is a complete waste of time and money! Don't buy. Half of it was a sneak peek of the 3rd book which I've already read.
this was not worth the time
What would have made The Prince & The Guard better?
The other 3 books in this series were fun. This one was just a repeat of everything and not done well. The words were pronounced differently.

Sixteen-year-old Madeline Landry is practically Gentry royalty. Her ancestor developed the nuclear energy that has replaced electricity, and her parents exemplify the glamour of the upper class. As for Madeline, she would much rather read a book than attend yet another debutante ball. But when she learns about the devastating impact the Gentry lifestyle - her lifestyle - is having on those less fortunate, her whole world is turned upside down. As Madeline begins to question everything she has been told, she finds herself increasingly drawn to handsome, beguiling David Dana, who seems to be hiding secrets of his own. Soon, rumors of war and rebellion start to spread, and Madeline finds herself at the center of it all. Ultimately, she must make a choice between duty - her family and the estate she loves dearly - and desire.
Fans of Ally Condie, Kiera Cass, Veronica Roth, and even Jane Austen will be enthralled by this breathtaking listen.

Kyle Stilleno is the invisible student, toiling through high school in the middle of Nowhere, Texas. Brad Greymark is the baseball star of Foster High. When they bond over their mutual damage during a night of history tutoring, Kyle thinks maybe his life has changed for good. But the promise of fairy-tale love is a lie when you're gay and falling for the most popular boy in school. A coming of age story in the same vein of John Hughes, Tales from Foster High shows an unflinching vision of the ups and downs of teenage love and what it is like to grow up gay.
    Members Reviews:
    Nice surprise
This was a truly enjoyable high school coming out/coming of age story. Think of it as a gay John Hughes film. The author is a real fan of John Hughes and obviously cares a great deal about the challenges gay teenagers face in high school. Some would say this isn't a YA book. I have to disagree. The sex scenes in this book are no where as graphic as in traditional gay romance. And if I remember correctly, nothing that the average teenager not only knows about, but much milder. It wasn't a perfect book and the narrator doesn't give a lot of diversity to the characters, but he does do a good job at lending depth and emotion to the story. But be warned, he does sound like a high school kid, which is what the story needed. Absolutely worth a credit.
    Brilliant - loved the narration!
Maybe With A Chance of Certainty (book 1)
I bought this book (and the rest of the series) and obviously started with this one first - duh! I read and LOVED it. Then I had the chance to listen to the audio version. And WOW!
If I thought I enjoyed the story the first time round, the audio version just improved on it. The narrator, Michael Stellman, enhances the story and takes nothing away. It was so interesting to compare my thoughts on the story from my own reading experience versus my thoughts from the listening experience. Sometimes the narrator's voice and style doesn't match the characters I have built in my head but this one hit the nail on the head - brilliant! Michael Stellman's voice captured Kyle perfectly with a real sense of youth and emotion.
I loved the style of writing and characters were totally wonderful. I loved the emotion and challenge of growing up. I loved the nerd and the jock facing life head on. I loved public confrontations and grand gestures. But most of all I loved the strength and honesty.
I wouldn't usually come right out and recommend an audio book over the ebook or print edition (I'm a bit old-school that way and prefer the characters in my head) but this is the reverse for me. I actually originally rated the written book as a 4/4.5 but it is now a definite 5 and moving to my favourites shelf!
End of the Beginning (Book 2)
This is the second book in the series and part of the Tales From Foster High audio book so I listened to rather than read this book. As with the first book, I LOVED this is it's audio form. The narrator's voice was just brilliant, catching the teenage voice of Brad.
Here we have Brad's point of view as he agonises over the events of the past couple of days. Coming out in front of the whole school was a spur of the moment decision and Brad wonders if he made the right choice.

    fantastic book!
Would you consider the audio edition of Breath of Yesterday to be better than the print version?
I am sure some of the scottish slurs would be hard to understand in print but the narration makes it easier to understand.
Have you listened to any of Justine Eyres other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have never listen to her narration before these two books and I am not a big fan of her voice. It has a whine to it.
    Any additional comments?
Breath of Yesterday by Emily Bold
This is the second book to The Curse. I hate the voice of the narrator however; the book is really amazing if you can get over the whine of her voice. The story is brilliant and loops everything from the first book together. The author is obviously very creative and intelligent to pull off a book like this without getting everyone confused or leaving missing pieces. GREAT READ!

The narrator was boring I couldnt even listen to it after the first chapter to bad the first book wasnt bad
What could Emily Bold and Katja Bell (translator) have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This book would be with that I listen to relax, something like a moment of mental hygiene.
If youve listened to books by Emily Bold and Katja Bell (translator) before, how does this one compare?
This book is much better. The plot is captivating, exciting, with amazing moments of adventure and with some revelations about what and how everthing started.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
What can I say? I like Justine Eyre. Her voice is lovely, and she takes the listener to dive into the narration,

    Cuuuusshhhhh
I love the Keatyn Chronicles. I first read the ebook of Stalk me back in August-ish 2012. I instantly fell in love with Keatyn and her boys. Stalk me is full of the best kind of drama. I purchase audiobooks only after I've read and fell in love with the ebook. I love revisiting my favorite stories through the audio. If you are a KC fan you must listen to the story now. The narrator is spot on Keatyn. And if you haven't read the ebooks yet, seriously buy this book. I think the narrator is not only perfect for Keatyn but she does the whole story well. Honestly the voice can make or break an audiobook. Doesn't matter if its the best novel ever written. This has both. Great story & great narration.
Didnt like the tone of the story
What disappointed you about Stalk Me?
    yes
Has Stalk Me turned you off from other books in this genre?
    not really
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    dissapointment
    Any additional comments?
I didn't finish reading. it did not hold my interest. not sure if it was the tone of the reader or the content. could not get into the book at all
    Just amazing
I wasn't sure about this book in audible, I've never been a big fan of audio books but oh man was it worth it!! The narrators voice was amazing and I loved the cute accent she used for Dallas. I think she made me me fall even more in love with him. The voice that I imagined just never did him any justice and defiantly didn't have that cute accent.
As usual jillian Dodd has surpassed all expectation and has convinced me that audiobooks are amazing. I will defiantly be listening to the rest of the series. It was also fun to read long while listening to the book.
    Not Bad
Where does Stalk Me rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    Top 10
Who was your favorite character and why?
Kush. He's hilarious and loads of fun.
What about Maren McGuires performance did you like?
Sometimes her voice was a little too high-pitched and tinny but most of the time it was easy to listen to. I liked her "manly" voice best.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    I'm not sure.
    Any additional comments?
This is not the type of book I would normally read.

Frustrated with both actions of heroine and hero
Not at all up to my usual expecations for this Author. First half wanted to strangle heroine. By end hero's actuons were turning me off as well.
Loved the story, meh about male narrator
What made the experience of listening to Better Than Perfect the most enjoyable?
The story was really fantastic - I could easily pick up where I left off and loved the chemistry between the two characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked Derek the best, but his narrator was also not my favorite at times. Derek was so cocky, but endearing. So forward, but also a little mysterious.
What three words best describe Amy Rubinate and Kirby Heyborne s voice?
    Kirby: clear, sultry, sometimes-too-twangy
Amy: versatile, pleasant, a little unbelievable delivering *some* lines.
    Any additional comments?
It really bothered me that the male narrator called Ashton "Ashjin" the entire book. He's from the south, Derek - the male character in the book, but he shouldn't completely mispronounce this word to that extent.

    Members Reviews:
This is highly recommended to everyone who likes a good paranormal romance!
I picked this book up at Barnes and Noble intending to give it a try and even though I was a little hesitant at first I was so glad I did.
I adored how they put the fun spin on angels in this book. It was unique and mysterious (just like angels). The authors put together the Grigori world very well and gave us just enough information to keep me excited without letting me know too much about what was going to happen.
Claire was a well written and likeable character. I liked that she didnât always have angelic powers and gracefulness because she was a sweet young girl who was used to working for what she wanted and not just having everything handed to her. Even after experiencing some her crazy new talents she did her best to use them for good.
The secondary characters in this book were some of the best I have ever read about. Claire is lucky to have two of the coolest friends ever, Brian and Erica. They both were quirky, funny, and handled a crisis well. Which was good since there was a lot of them this year. I also liked that they were not clueless the entire time. Claire couldnât hide from her best friends. It was easy to see that all three of them had a strong bond. Brian was great at putting some humor into any situation and Erica new just what to say to make Claire feel better. I would love to have friends like these in my life.
Alec wasnât a brooding hero which was refreshing. He actually had a sense of humor and was really interesting to learn about. He and Claire had real connection that was really sweet. I also liked that even though he was super human in many aspects he also had very human moments. He embarrassed himself, made mistakes, and was afraid of many of the things teenagers are. It made him more relatable and I liked seeing that side of him.
After finishing this book I couldnât help, but be excited for a possible sequel. There are still so many questions I have and I hope that one will definitely be made in the near future.
This is highly recommended to everyone who likes a good paranormal romance!
    Loved
I went into Forbidden with low expectations. It was one of those books that sounded like it could be amazing, and so I went into it expecting a book that didn't meet expectations. That sounds a little twisted, I know, but I figured if a book sounded this good, then it probably wasn't going to be.

Is death the end...or only the beginning?
Ethan Wate always dreamed of leaving the stifling Southern town of Gatlin. But he never dreamt that finding love with Lena Duchannes would drive him away.
Lena is a Caster girl whose supernatural powers unveiled a secretive and cursed side of Gatlin, so powerful it forced him to make a terrible sacrifice. Now Ethan must find a way to return to Lena - and Gatlin - as she vows to do whatever it takes to get him back. Even if it means trusting old enemies or risking their loved ones lives.
Can Ethan and Lena rewrite their fate and their spellbinding love story in this stunning finale to the Beautiful Creatures series?

    A Fantastic Conclusion!
This is the fourth and final book in the Beautiful Creatures saga. I loved it!
I downloaded this book in audio format, as I wanted to read it, but didn't have time to. Having this book in audio format allowed me to listen to it whilst doing household chores, or before bedtime.
The story is again narrated by Kevin T. Collins, but this time he is joined by Khristine Hvam. Both narrators do a fantastic job bringing the characters alive by giving them their own accents and voices.
Ethan Wate is an extremely interesting character. I liked him very much. He is a sweet, loving young man, who happens to be a human in love with a Caster. This, it turns out, can be extremely dangerous.
Lena Duchannes is a character I didn't really like in the first book. She had a "woe is me" attitude that really grated on my nerves. However, as this series has progressed, she has grown on me and it has been interesting to see her transformation from an emo-girl to a confident Caster.
This story continues from the rather shocking cliffhanger at the end of the third book, and is now told from two points of view - Ethan's and Lena's. This is an exciting conclusion to this series. I was hooked from the first few minutes into the audio book.
Lena, Link, Liv and Amma are all trying to come to terms with Ethan's sacrifice to repair the order of things on the Eighteenth Moon, whilst hiding the fact that he's dead from Ethan's father. Meanwhile, Ethan finds himself in the Other World, with his mother and Aunt Prue. Ethan finds out that his page in the Caster Chronicles had been tampered with, and sets out on a quest to reclaim it.
This story is even more exciting than the previous one, and I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat on occasion. There was, however, a character I didn't expect to find in the Other World, Seraphine. She may have been a dark Caster, and made some bad decisions in her life, but I felt that she redeemed herself in the end. There are also some new characters brought into the story, such as Amma's family - the Greats - Uncle Abner, Aunt Ivy, Aunt Delilah, Twila and not forgetting Grandmama Sulla, the great prophet. It was nice to finally meet them. But, I think that my favourite character in this book was Xavier. He is a character that I really liked, but felt sorry for.
