    Publisher's Summary:
Time is not on Faye Longchamps side. She and her husband Joe are working near the mouth of the Mississippi, researching archaeological sites soon to be swamped by oil. The Deepwater Horizon disaster has morphed her run-of-the-mill contract job into a task that might swamp her fledgling company. It isnt helping that an injured babysitter has left Faye to work with a toddler underfoot.
An adolescent girl is drawn to Faye, perhaps because she idolizes the confident archaeologist. Young Amande is bright and curious, but a poverty-stricken life on a houseboat with an eccentric grandmother doesnt seem like a good way for Amande to get the education she deserves. Then when the girls grandmother and her no-account uncle are murdered, her prospects worsen. With only two known relatives, neither of whom is much more respectable than the dead uncle, Amande seems destined for neglect or worse.
Soon, Faye and Joe find themselves among people fighting hard for Amandes pathetic inheritance: a raggedy houseboat, a few shares of stock, and a hurricane-battered island thats not even habitable. Pirate-era silver coins are found and disappear. Shadowing it all is the fact that the murderer is still on the loose. But why should Faye be surprised by such shady events, here in these watery lands settled by the greatest pirates of them all? And the oil slick looms, because this country is still being plundered, after all these years.

Mary Anna Eveans needs to write more!
Would you consider the audio edition of Plunder to be better than the print version?
Hard to say, but I have more time to listen--housework, driving, boring meetings, walking--so I'm more likely to listen than to read.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Plunder?
The setup of the mystery is always the best. Her words make a picture of the place and the people and the culture. I love the Gulf coast and an addicted to Mary Anna Evan's characters and writing style. I sit and wait for her next novel to come out.
What about Cassandra Campbells performance did you like?
The tibre of her voice is perfect for Faye-the main character and she is an outstanding actor using her voice to be the other characters as well as the narrators.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes, but it wasn't possible.
    Any additional comments?
I'm so glad that Mary Anna Evans decided to put her books on audio. I enjoy them either way, but I get to them quicker this way. Keep up the excellent work Ms. Evans and Audible!
    great book and narration.
I really enjoyed the book and the way the narrator tells the story. Keeps me interested in the story. Can't wait to hear the next book.
    Another great mystery
This is a bit different from the other books, but, still very good. The characters are very interesting and the plot well thought out. Joe and Faye are great as parents. This series gets better and better. I look forward to the next book.

    Title: Stalker
Subtitle: A Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus Novel, Book 12
    Author: Faye Kellerman
    Narrator: Mitchell Greenberg
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 13 hrs and 56 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-22-12
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 123 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
L.A. Homicide Detective Peter Decker never wanted the perils of his job to touch his family. But now his two worlds have collided.
A first year rookie with the LAPD's Hollywood Division, Cynthia Decker became a cop against her father, Peter Decker's, wishes. But police work is in her blood, and she's determined to make it on her own -- even now, when her razor sharp instincts for danger are telling her that something is very wrong....
The signs are impossible to ignore: things being moved around in her apartment, the destruction of personal effects. But it's a harrowing trip down a dark canyon road that confirms Cindy's worst fears. Someone fiendishly relentless, and with decidedly evil intentions, is stalking her. And with Peter Decker isolated from her troubles by his own investigation into a disturbing series of car-jackings, it's up to Cindy alone to find out who in her personal and/or professional life wants her frightened or harmed... or dead.

    Cindy's a Twit
I am a big fan of this series and I am so happy to have about dozen more books to go! Ill be entertained for a long time to come.
This twelfth installment was great and I liked that it was mostly told from Cindys point of view, it was an interesting change of pace.
Surprisingly, I discovered I dont really like her that much! Her attitude was infuriating and borderline illogical why would a cop deny strange happenings and rationalize away events that are obviously directed at her? It didnt ring true.
I also had A LOT of trouble following the case as it unwound because there were just too many moving pieces and I am terrible at remembering names.
Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the book and look forward to more.
    I liked it
What did you love best about Stalker?
The story kept going throughout. Decker, the dad, showed a very human side when his daughter was in danger.
What about Mitchell Greenbergs performance did you like?
    He does character voices well.
    Any additional comments?
I saw some bad reviews and did not expect much. Not sure what drove others away from the book, but I enjoyed it. Certainly, it was a better listen than Jupiter's bones, in my opinion.
    good read
I like the slow unraveling of the mystery, but I have to say I like the mysteries by this author that have several subplots involving other family members, not all in any particular threatening situation to give the story more depth. I like the development of Cindy as an adult and she and her dad's relationship both at work and home.
Can't listen with kids in car.
I enjoy the decker series, not it seems like the language gets worse. The "f" word adds length to the reading but detracts from the over all production -- that's the reason for only 4 stars.
agree with reviewer Babs -- disappointing!
I agree with every word written by Babs in her review. This book was extremely disappointing. I was actually excited to see Cindy follow in her dad's footsteps and was hopeful that this would provide even more reasons to like the Decker/Lazarus family. But in this book I found Cindy thoroughly unlikeable and at times rather stupid. On top of this, because the book revolved around Cindy, there wasn't enough of Peter and Rina to save it.

    Members Reviews:
Entertaining but predictable with rushed ending
If you could sum up Kissing the Gunners Daughter in three words, what would they be?
    Predictable, Conventional, Procedural
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Saw it coming a mile way (that is to say, very early on in the novel). But knowing Rendell/Vine's genius, I kept telling myself throughout the whole thing: "No, no, calm yourself; she'll no doubt go a totally different path to what you're expecting." Not so. No twists were forthcoming. Also, this ending was very rushed and seemed to come out of nowhere i.e. with very little notice to the reader that Wexford was hot on the trail. Given Wexford's particular emotional attachment to one of the victims, it seems extra-odd that we're given no hints that he's started to make sense of the case. Finally, the very last few sentences cheated the reader of satisfaction over the solved mystery; we--or at least I-- need a little more. Even another paragraph would have been useful.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Although I didn't care for all the drama and trauma with Wexford's daughters, I chuckled over every scene featuring one daughter's loathsome new boyfriend, and Wexford's pained reactions to him.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The above boyfriend scenes elicited audible chuckles that caused the people in nearby work stations to look over at me.
    Any additional comments?
For me, this was not one of Rendell's best. Admittedly, I have always preferred her more psychologically-driven, non-procedural-heavy works (such as the ones written as Barbara Vine) but this novel stands out as a particularly mundane police procedural, with (unwelcome) emphasis on Wexford's daughter dramas thrown in as if to add "characterization." I understand why Rendell drew the parallels between his home life and the case at hand, but it was too much.
Overall, the book was entertaining enough that I'll listen to it again in the future, and I don't mind recommending it to you if you're a Rendell fan...I would just advise newcomers to Rendell/Vine to start with other of her novels, lest you get the impression that she is a conventional mystery writer who writes conventional, predictable (if well-written) detective novels. Normally, she's anything but.
As for the narrator Davina Porter, she is a solid one and I'd readily buy more books read by her. Her voice is itself modulated in tone and pleasant, and that's no small point when you consider how bad it can be to listen to an overly-breathy or too-nasal, etc. etc. narrator for several hours on end. Her forte is lower-class accents; those are great. She is good at Wexford's West Country accent, too, though sometimes distractingly inept at American accents.

Roland Britten, accountant and amateur jockey, awakens one morning to find he cant move his handsbecause he is tied up with netting, held captive where no light penetrates and no amount of yelling will get any attention. But why?
He knew that this was the latest in a series of events that had begun when he decided to ride in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, a race second only to the Grand National in the lives of British steeplechase riders. As an amateur jockey, Roland had pleased no one when he took Tapestry past the finish line first in what turned out to be the worst Gold Cup in history. As an accountant whose clientele included horse owners and jockeys alike, he also knew more about the private financial affairs of the racing world than any other person on the racecourse. Was winning the Gold Cup cause enough for his kidnapping? Or was it his knowledge of the books?

"Few match Francis for dangerous flights of fancy and pure, inventive menace." (
    Boston Herald)
    Members Reviews:
    Always a good writer
This story is thoroughly enjoyable. The narrator does a good job of reading it, not quite as good as Tony Britten, but still pretty good. There is one part that is adult material but it does not last too long. The language is fairly clean.
    Confusing
Who is the narrator? You have two different narrators listed. Check out the picture. Whoever the narrator is - he is stilted. Not smooth flowing at all.
    risk ny dick Francis
it was the typical from Francis and I love them all. I wish I didn't have to do 20 words.
    Not a typical Dick Francis
The story is from 1977, but still reads well. Characters, as usual, are well written. I have seen others complain when Francis books aren't primarily about horses. Crazy people. I have learned about glass blowing, painting, photography and other really interesting things. This book is about a really interesting accountant, which may be a contradiction in terms. (FYI - I also could be called an accountant.) I can't say what the story lacked but it is not going to be a memorable Dick Francis for me.

    Publisher's Summary:
Just as 200,000 fans are pouring into town for Race Week, a body is found in a barrel of asphalt next to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The next day, a NASCAR crew member comes to Temperance Brennans office at the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner to share a devastating story. Twelve years earlier, Wayne Gambles sister, Cindi, then a high-school senior and aspiring racer, disappeared along with her boyfriend, Cale Lovette. Lovette kept company with a group of right-wing extremists known as the Patriot Posse. Could the body be Cindis? Or Cales?
At the time of their disappearance, the FBI joined the investigation, only to terminate it weeks later. Was there a cover-up? As Tempe juggles multiple theories, the discovery of a strange, deadly substance in the barrel alongside the body throws everything into question. Then an employee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention goes missing during Race Week. Tempe cant overlook the coincidence. Was this man using his lab chemicals for murder? Or is the explanation even more sinister? What other secrets lurk behind the festive veneer of Race Week?
A turbocharged story of secrets and murder unfolds in this, the 14th thrilling novel in Reichss cleverly plotted and expertly maintained series (The New York Times Book Review). With the smash hit Bones about to enter its seventh season and in full syndication - and her most recent novel, Spider Bones, an instant New York Times best seller - Kathy Reichs is at the top of her game.
    Members Reviews:
Don't start here if you're new to the series!
I am a hard-core Bones fan, and last summer started reading the books that the series is based on. Her writing style amuses me and I love the mysteries... That said, this was probably the worst book in the series. That doesn't mean it's bad, but there's much less science in the book than normal; I learned more about NASCAR than I did about forensics (Ms. Reichs is a real live forensic anthropologist much like her Temperance Brennan counterpart). I really look forward more to the books set in Canada than the Charlotte, NC settings--I like Detective Andrew Ryan better than "Skinny" Slidell.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't read it if you like a good mystery, but I'd highly recommend some of her earlier books before this one... 206 Bones is spectacular (her first), Cross Bones is a wild ride, and Grave Secrets is wonderful.
If you like the TV show and you haven't read any of her books, start with those, as this one might turn you off the series if you start here, it's totally not up to her normal level. :)
The narrator has voiced other books in the series and does a great job with the southern accents.
    Why did I do this?
Would you try another book from Kathy Reichs and/or Linda Emond?
I've loved earlier Kathy Reichs books, but this one didn't do anything for me. It's about 40% plot/action, and about 60% question after question, recapping and emphasizing the various insolvable mysteries. I solved it, pretty quickly, and then slogged through hours of things like:
    did Jim love Kathy?
did Mike know that Jim loved Kathy?
    did Kathy love Jim?
    did Sara know?
    until I was saying
why am I still listening to this?
how much longer is this book?
    will it ever end?
Also, I got some history lessons about NASCAR. I like the lessons about forensics.

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
I was my dad's vinyl-wallah: I changed his records while he lounged around, and that's how I know my Argo from my Tempo. And it's why, when Dr Walid called me to the morgue to listen to a corpse, I recognized the tune it was playing. Something violently supernatural had happened to the victim, strong enough to leave its imprint like a wax cylinder recording. Cyrus Wilkinson, part-time jazz saxophonist and full-time accountant, had apparently dropped dead of a heart attack just after finishing a gig in Soho.
He wasn't the first. No one was going to let me exhume corpses to see if they were playing my tune, so it was back to old-fashioned legwork, starting in Soho, the heart of the scene. I didn't trust the lovely Simone, Cyrus' ex-lover, professional jazz kitten and as inviting as a Rubens' portrait, but I needed her help. There were monsters stalking Soho, creatures feeding off that special gift that separates the great musician from someone who can raise a decent tune, taking beauty and leaving behind sickness, failure and broken lives. And as I hunted them, my investigation got tangled up in another story: a brilliant trumpet player, Richard 'Lord' Grant - my father - who managed to destroy his own career, twice. That's the thing about policing: most of the time you're doing it to maintain public order. Occasionally you're doing it for justice. And maybe once in a career, you're doing it for revenge.
    Members Reviews:
Even Better Than the First One
I enjoyed this even more than the first in the series, and now I'm hanging out for Book 3. I found the action a little easier to follow (maybe that's because I have got a bit better control over my iPod now... though I can't make it stop replaying the last half hour of any session whenever I switch it on!) and a lot of things from Book One suddenly made sense. Peter is an interesting character with a good deal of tolerance for the "different", though not a lot for the "ethically challenged". Back story for Nightingale, Molly and Richard "Lord" Grant slides seamlessly into the current action. Excellent work, Messers Aaronovitch and Holdbrook-Smith.
    Pure Imaginative Brilliance
I came across this book/series by accident but it is a terrific listen. such wonderful imagination combining the geography of London, the mundane details of police procedure and magic. The book moves between humour, tragedy and compassion so one has little idea what is coming next. The narrator is pitch perfect accents are spot on and makes the street references of modern London speech that much more pertinent. Enthralling, looking forward to the next book and I have yet to finish this current book.
Stellar performance of an enthralling book
Both this and the previous effort by Ben Aaronovitch were excellent fun books to read but were made even better by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith's narrations.
He does multiple characterisations effortlessly without sounding corny and this adds to a sense of involvement in the story which with Aaronovitch's descriptions, make you feel you are watching rather than listening.
    Love this series.
The narrator is superb and the characters vivid and likable.

Acknowledged as one of todays premier mystery writers, Ruth Rendell has won three Edgar Awards and four Gold Dagger Awards. She received the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America and was awarded the Commander of the British Empire. Among her most popular books are those in the Inspector Wexford series.
Harm Done presents the inspector with a most volatile challenge: the various guises of domestic abuse. The residents of a shabby housing complex in the London suburb of Kingsmarkham are furious. A convicted pedophile, released from prison, has returned to their community. At the same time, two young women disappear, each returning several days later with little memory of where she has been. As Wexford investigates, Kingsmarkham is rocked by violence and murder. To prevent further harm, the inspector must coax some surprising motives from the reluctant suspects.
    Members Reviews:
    Has Detective Wexford gone senile?
I usually like Ruth Rendall's Kingsmarkham mysteries, but I was struck this time by how often the lead detective misses very obvious clues and seems, in general, unusually obtuse. It's a decent "listen," but far from her best.
    Dumb Copers
Ruth Rendell is such a good writer and has such unusual plots, she's hard to resist. The police procedure followed in this outing is the worst ,but none of the Wexford books make the cops seem that bright. As for Wexford himself ,he comes across as an opinionated old foggy, who makes instant judgment based on look and interior decorating. I think I'll stick with Rendells other books from now on.

    Mission impossible??
It was stll a lot of fun but I don't know if I like Abby and Dutch being Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I rather her be the Psychic who gets involved in the occatinal crime and not the spy who occatianly becomes psychic. But I have to say I loved the "bad guy" in this book... He is too attractive to not to come back!
    Great
A new venue, some new characters, different type of story. While it's the same old Abby it's a different than the earlier books. Keeps the series from getting old and makes for a very good listen.
Too far-fetched for me, too many improbabilities
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The whole idea of this story
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
it fit all the action which preceded it
Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Michaelss other performances before? How does this one compare?
    Performance was fine
Did Vision Impossible inspire you to do anything?
No, just wanted to finish it
    Any additional comments?
If ever psychic determinations were needed it was in this book.
    Worst in series thus far
What disappointed you about Vision Impossible?
The story line was slow and boring. The narrator's voices are starting to get less and less different so as all the characters are beginning to sound alike. I'd also like to know when Milo began having that accent??!!
What could Victoria Laurie have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Gave it a better storyline. The CIA looking for a drone just wasn't thrilling.
    Any additional comments?
I hope the next book is much better.
Good story - a little redunasnt
What made the experience of listening to Vision Impossible the most enjoyable?
I really liked the story. A little involved however if you follow it closely - it does keep in guessing on how it will end.
    Any additional comments?
I think the word "fiance'" may have been used too much. I know Abby must have been thrilled to be engaged but it seemed like towards the end she was telling everyone Dutch was her fiance'.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 20 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-13-11
    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 115 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author John Connolly writes a lyrical, haunting tale that turns to private investigator Charlie Parker's hidden past... and a search that forces him to investigate all that he has ever believed true about his beloved parents - and himself.
Stripped of his license, Parker takes a job in a Portland bar. Alone and directionless, he faces at last a shadow he has lived with since his childhood: what made his father, a respected police officer, apparently shoot dead two unarmed teens and then commit suicide. His quest leads him back to the little New York town where he grew up, to the mysterious history of the NYPD, and to the existence of secret friends and hidden enemies. And waiting in the shadows, as they have been throughout Charlies life, are a man and a woman with only one purpose: to bring an end to his very existence.
    Members Reviews:
I don't think John Connolly knows how to do wrong
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It is hard to listen to Charlie Parker books in one sitting because of the subject matter. His books are full of genuine evil, and Connolly doesn't spare his readers. He describes every gritty detail and makes you feel every discomfort and pain the characters feel. But! Connolly is a master writer you don't find that often today. His Charlie Parker novels do exactly what Orson Scott Card said the true purpose of literature is: We don't read novels to have an experience like life. Heck, we're living lives, complete with all the incompleteness. We turn to fiction to have an author assure us that it means something. It is Connolly's ability to explain what all the bad and all the good things that happen to you and people everywhere signify (at least in his opinion) that makes you want to push through his novels, and his insistence that even though the evil is never fully defeated, it is the pleasure of peace, the power of good, the good of love, that is worth fighting all the time.
    Deceptive Title
If you are expecting/wanting classic mystery or suspense, run dont walk to the next book on your list. I stepped into this goat rope because G. Guidall was the narrator and the other books I had read by Connelly I liked very much. Not this one. By midway through Part 1 I had feeling I was not going to like where this book was going, but I plowed ahead. By Part 2 I was beginning understand why "IT" was killing all the other people. And then I began to wonder why 'It/They" were looking for Charlie. Why did 'They' have to kill Charlie! He's a threat to them we are told, but we are never told why! In conclusion, I have to admit Connelly wove the events of this book rather well so as to keep me looking for answers! Guidall's voice was masterful in bringing a dark and brooding feel to the book so only Performance got high marks from me on this one.
Great story read by the best, George Guidall
George Guidall is an actor:: he reads the text in each character thereby drawing the audience into the story. John Connolly never ceases to spin webs of mystery that keeps one on the edge of the seat!!!
    Could it be the best?
This was an exraordinary story. when Charlie Parker was setting himself to meet some very brutal murderers I smiled and said aloud...

In the newest addition to the New York Times-bestselling series, Stone Barrington comes face-to-face with a beautiful woman from his past....
Stone Barrington receives a rather unexpected phone call from Arrington Calder, the ex-girlfriend with whom he has a son. Arrington's much older husband, the actor Vance Calder, has just died, leaving her a fortune in Centurion Studios stock. Arrington has plans for the money and asks Stone to represent her in the sale of the company. But when he arrives at her home in Bel-Air to finalize the deal, things take a nasty turn. It seems many of Hollywood's rich and beautiful have Arrington and Centurion in their sights, and Stone finds himself dragged into a surprisingly deadly web of intrigue.

    Another Great Stone Barrington Novel
I've always loved the Stone Barrington series and Bel Air Dead does not dissapoint. This is yet another great book in the series and listeners will enjoy catching up with old characters we have not heard from in a long time. Stuart Woods wrote on his website that he is required to pen quite a few books every year. I do not know if it is for this reason or intentional but the Stone Barrington books have been taking on a much faster pace of late which I really enjoy.
While I won't give anything away here, there are some really interesting plot twists that I think will introduce some new and unique characters in the near future. If you decided not to listen to Bel Air Dead but you are a fan of Stone Barrington, I would suggest you read this one.
    Stone does it again!
Stone and Dino take California by storm with the help
of some of his old friends. Great listen. Very
    entertaining.
    Better than Most
One of the better Barrington books. Stone weaves a clever plot to enable Arrington (his former lover and mother of his child) to retain control of a Hollywood studio owned by her former husband. Twisty enough for you? Stone and Dino are not in NYC, a delightful change and the amounts of money thrown around are phenomenal. Stone gets laid several times, as usual, but one of them doesn't get killed...that's odd for a Barrington novel. Dino's role helps bring the protagonist to justice after many bad acts. The plot involves Ed Eagle, a Santa Fe lawyer and his edgy ex-, bringing together a couple of Woods' plot strings. This one is #20 in the series and is better than most.
    Bel Air Dead review
What did you like best about Bel-Air Dead? What did you like least?
There was a good sense of realism. This is how people would react in this situation. The plot was bit strung out but I enjoyed it.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Most interesting, I think was about the business of show business. Emotionally, though there wasn't a sense of urgency. This was more melodrama than suspence.
Which character as performed by Tony Roberts was your favorite?
stone Barrington's cop buddy from NewYork. Dino. although. he sounded a bit too much like Max from Hart to Hart.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yeah, pretty much only to see who they chose to play in it.
    Any additional comments?
Leisurely, paced.. Could housed more tension.
    Bel-air Dead
Would you listen to Bel-Air Dead again? Why?
    The reader is very entertaining.
