Loved it!

What made the experience of listening to Another Man's Treasure the most enjoyable?

I've always liked a good mystery, and I love watching shows like Antiques Road Show and American Pickers. Combined? Best concept ever!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Voice-Wise, I'd have to say her father. Voicing a stroke victim must have been really hard, but the narrator nailed it. Especially with his speech steadily improving as he struggled to rehabilitate.

What does Janelle Tedesco bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Listening to a book can bring the characters to life in a way that just reading doesn't. It also forces me to slow down and really savor the story. Tedesco is an excellent voice actress, and I really enjoyed her work on this book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I'd have to say the ending, when everything finally becomes clear. We finally find out what really happened, and Audrey can finally move on.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the unravelling of all of the layers of deception in this story. There was also some very poignant social commentary, especially in regards to racism and police. It was very well portrayed, and I wanted to note that. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Which character as performed by the narrators was your favorite?

I think all of the narrators gave an excellent performance.

Any additional comments?

Wow. This is one of those books that makes you sit back and think "What would I do?". It is so realistic that it stays with you after you have completed the book. It's kind of like the Stepford Wives meet a religious zealot. The story unfolds through Sara, her "husband" Jacob and reporter Stella whose friend went missing a year earlier. Sara and Jacob live in a community where wives are whipped with a belt for infractions of the rules - like asking questions about their husband 's decisions. About half way through I thought I had it figured out but I was WRONG!

Book is Excellent and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Rape Porn

I thought I was buying an intriguing mystery, but it turns out to be a bodice ripper featuring sex with impaired consent and brainwashing. I hope in the end it turns out that the perpetrator and his conspirators are brought to justice, and the woman who is brainwashed and then raped is able to break free of her captors, but given the steamy romance novel treatment of their "love making" I am guessing this is not the case, and I won't be finishing the book.

Continuing Story

Be aware this is part 1 of a continuing story. For me, it was not interesting enough to pay for part 2. the plot is predictable and characters uninteresting Sophomoric sex scenes.

The female reader is good but the male reader over-enunciates annoyingly.

This was free on Amazon Prime. If I had paid for it, I would want my money back.

Uncomfortable Book, no ending

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes. Stop the game of no ending. I know it means you get readers to buy another book but I think it's deceptive. Tell people beforehand to give them a choice.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The general concept was interesting. Women being basically slaves because of brainwashing. How the organization made it's money and kidnapped people was also interesting.But, It got repetitive and tiring.

If youve listened to books by Ace Atkins before, how does this one compare?

I've listened to other Ace Atkins books in Robert Parker's Spenser series. This was my least favorite.

Which scene was your favorite?

Spenser and Susan talking about having more sex while down the Cape. they seemed to have more sex in this book than all the Spenser books combined. I thought it was funny considering they were supposed to have been together at least 25 years.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Overall, I enjoyed it although I found some parts unbelievable.

Worst Spencer

And. I have read them all. Slow developing . Weak story line. It has a tired feel to it

Spenser is Still Spenser.

I liked this latest book of Atkins' best of all. The others are good but I was still mourning Bob Parker and resenting Ace for stepping in. Anyway Spenser is alive, he and his besties are coping with their ages and dealing with the technology and changing culture of the 21st Century and they're adapting well.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a life long Spenser fan, I was so sad when Parker died, but am so glad Ace Atkins has kept the series going. The dialogue is very similar to Parker and he has kept all the main characters going. I hope there are more books to come!

Enjoyable once I adjusted my expectations

Peter May writes really good stories with a strong sense of time, place and character. Entry Island continues that tradition but not as consistently as his outstanding Lewis Trilogy.

Dual story lines examine a current time murder mystery and the immigration story a century earlier of the ancestors of present day characters. The historical story line is by far the more engaging, perhaps because of Mays obvious connection with the Hebredian locale. Here the story could be better described as historical fiction, but it didnt bother me because May was able to make me care about the fate of the characters while painting a vivid backdrop of Scottish class politics that drove the mass emigrations.

The murder mystery was not as well developed, with inept and unbelievable police investigations and too many red herrings. As a police procedural it left too much to chance for credibility and the lead detectives relationship problems made the story lose focus multiple times.

That said, I still found this book highly engaging and hard to put down. The reading by Peter Forbes was excellent because of his ability to use accents and voice inflections to give individual identities to a wide range of characters.

A bit unbelievable

This was an okay story. There were obvious problems in the plot such as everyone talking so freely to Delaney and the fact that she was given a job with such responsibility over the phone. I will probably read the next book. But, I think this might be one of those stories in which everything works out perfectly for the main character regardless of of the complications involved. Carrington MacDuffie did a great job job with the accents. She made the book worth finishing.

Hmmmmm

I might have liked it better if there had been a little lead up to Delaney's nosiness. It just defied logic that she could be this stranger in a foreign country at a new job (at which she never really seemed to work), who was such a busybody. But more unlikely was that everyone in Scotland was willing to answer her questions, and not tell her to mind her own business.

The story itself was ok, but the author really should have set up a scenario where there would be a reason for her nosiness. And then, create situations where she sort of stumbles onto things. Delaney seemed like a pain. Maybe I could read more of the future series if Delaney was more Miss Marple than Gladys Kravitz.

I guess it is ok if you want a little diversion.

The narrator was good. I liked the accents. Very nice.

I was listening to this book on my drive home and found myself smiling. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as the plot kept me interested and the characters pulled me into the story. I hope that this book is not a standalone!

I wish a younger female had been selected to read the story. This narrator sounds like a 50 year old woman but the main character is in her 20's. If there is a second book, I hope a new narrator is found.

Chick lit; protagonist's life out of control

I'm not the right demographic for this chick lit novel. The book is funny in places and sad in others. Narration is very good.

I loved as much as I did Mother Morning Out. I never laugh as much listening to these books.

Love this book

This book made me laugh out loud. I especially liked Cris Dukehart's interpretation of the character Peaches.

It's not easy being Margie...

Margie started the series as a married mother of two. She believed her family needed extra income, and she wanted to work, so she took a pt job as a private investigator. The first book had her focused on her kids in preschool. Now her daughter is in first grade at Holy Oaks, a posh private school that Margie's mother in law insisted she attend. The "school" focus is now on Holy Oaks.

You can read the publisher's blurb and get the skinny on that. What's underlying all of the mayhem is Margie's personal life. Her marriage has fallen apart, and nothing she could ever do will fix it. It's not her fault, but she feels like she's failed. Her daughter is acting out, the school mothers are dreadful, her mother has arrived and has replaced all the food with macrobiotic vegan stuff the kids won't eat, her best friend is being questioned about a murder she didn't commit. Margie's wardrobe consists of granny panties, a sports bra, mom jeans and tee shirts. All of her clothes are too snug, and the best she can do for a funeral is a black pre-pregnancy cardigan that is too small. Blake, her husband, is on a retreat, desperate to "restore his manhood," and the women's group she attends puts the responsibility for his "recovery" at her feet. If she's more of a woman, he'll be more of a man.

How Margie has held it together this long amazes me. The book is worth it just to see how (or whether) she'll cope with any or all of it. Being held at gunpoint is the least of her troubles.

I look forward to a third book, just so we can see some good for Margie.

Good character and plot development from first book. Hope the divorce happens soon though. That's getting old. Reba's the best!

Too much fantasy not enough cozy

Ella may just learned that she can transfer her emotions into the food she bakes. But she doesn't know how she got that way. This book explains everything to do with her powers in depth. In fact, compared to book 1 this is way more supernatural & factual. You learn every single detail about each aunt & their respective gifts + the family history behind it all. There is a competing clan with dark magic in town too & things take place with them. The murder & mystery aspect is also centering around something to do with this group & magic... They're not quite witches (I'm unsure what they call themselves).

Book 1 was light on magic & more of a tongue in cheek detail that Ella May could affect people who eat her pies. I wasn't prepared for this book to be so heavy on wizards, witches, dark magic, powers and competing families etc. It feels like it overshadows the cozy mystery aspect completely, and just not on par with what I thought the series would be. Just be prepared for it to be mainly a fantasy story line & less of a typical cozy. If you enjoy that though, this will fit the bill!

Love this series!

I've listened to all these books and they are just fun! I wish I could find more just like it. And the narrator, Amanda Ronconi, is fantastic. I actually found this series by searching for books she narrated. Can't wait for the next one! You'll love it if you try it.

Love This Series

This is one of my favorite series. It's fun and imaginative with lots of twists and turns. The characters and plot are well developed and humorous. I look forward to reading the next book.

Great book for Dog lover's!

This was fun to listen to! Never sure what will happen next in the story. Only reason I rated it four star was the length of time the author took to explain the main character's time in the locked box truck. A bit too long! Otherwise I t was a great book.

MacBride Wraps Up Some Major Story Arcs

While MacBrides books can be at times painfully violent, if you can listen to the first scene then you too can become a McRae fan. In this book a lot of story arcs that had been going on for several books in the series get a wrap up-- and some others are introduced. That means it may not be the best place to start the series. However, I'm not sure if Audible has all of the unabridged books on the US site. You have to listen to them unabridged if you really want to appreciate MacBride's tartan noir.

There's a shake up in how characters are presented-- who would have guessed that Napier of Internal Affairs-- well, I'm not going to spoil this, but it's a surprise.

DI Roberta Steele has a very rough time in this book. But not as rough as crime boss Wee Hamish, who keeps trying to stave off a bloody struggle for his empire.
