"In the beginning, there was no such thing as heaven or hell. All that there was then, was earth.... There are raconteurs and mischief-mongers in our ranks and I have no doubt they shall pervert the truth with their self-serving versions. The events of history - this history of our land - shall thus inevitably have many versions, doubtless. But, I was there with General Ramm, I fought by his side..." Sanjaay, official chronicler of General Ramm

Around 12,000 BC, Hindustan as we know it today (or Hind) comprised five kingdoms of man, sandwiched between Parbat, the kingdom of the Gods in the north, and Lunka, the kingdom of the demons in the south. The 'Legend of Ramm' unravels the story of the military general called Ramm in the kingdom of Ayodh and how his actions came to define our world as we know it today.

Well written, but not very original

Easy read and mildly interesting. Good for the price. Wouldn't consider it very original in plot or narration style. Written as he says in rhe back of an Alto.

Members Reviews:

A fun book to read.

This book, the second in the Kirins trilogy, is delightful to read. It is smoothly written, well-paced, and with much suspense. I'm eager to read the third volume, and hear about the resolution of the quest by these tiny people.

Great Story !

Author James Priest skillfully wove in reminders of the kirins' earlier adventures, so the reader missed not a beat when delving into the kirins' further quest to stop the evil threatening their magic. This is a fun story and even offers some good lessons for our world today. Looking forward to The Secret of the Hanging Stones (book 3 of the trilogy)!

love this story

Continuation of the previous story, so ready for the third one.... when when when.... love this story!

Title: King's Gambit

Narrator: Hollie Jackson

Format: Unabridged

Length: 11 hrs and 39 mins

Language: English

Release date: 05-12-16

Publisher: Hadley Rille Books

Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Epic

Publisher's Summary:

The subtle victories of summer have faded beneath a winter of Northern occupation. King Roderran's invasion plans have ripened. His soldiers muster the Pevanese into their ranks, churn fallow fields into mud, and turn the region into an armed camp. Come spring, there will be war.

The King's arrival launches a flurry of preparations that sets the already turbulent city on edge. Prince Donari must contend with rumors of assassination, the disrespect of his liege-lord cousin, and the manipulations of the Lord Prelate Byrnard Casan. Trapped between fealty and treason, Donari faces impossible decisions. He must save his city and those closest to him. Somehow.

The coming storm will test the poets of Pevana in ways none of them could have foreseen. Poetry will not win this time - swords and spears will have their day - but Donari and Eleni, Devyn and Talyior must keep their faith in words to walk the tenuous paths between loyalty and betrayal, freedom and servitude, hope and despair.

Very satisfying sequel!

I absolutely hate being disappointed by sequels, and thankfully, "King's Gambit" doesn't make me go there! It seamlessly picks up where "The Poets of Pevana" leaves off, and it pulled me right in.

I'm not going to re-tell the story in this review, and I don't want to give any spoilers, so I'll just say that I liked it: the characters, the setting, the storyline. And the poetry...oh my goodness...it's hard to describe the powerful effect of the poetry in this book. It flows so naturally from the poets, and I really appreciate that the poems don't stop and scream, "Creative moment here, look at me, look at me!" Instead, the poetry is very authentic as it ties the events and emotions together and gives the book its heart. Very well done, and I'm looking forward to book #3 in the series!

Absorbing and fun!

Read "The Poets of Pevana" first, as this is the sequel. The "good versus evil" continues, with descriptions that colorfully created the action in my mind. "King's Gambit" has a nice pace to it and is hard to set aside. It's absorbing and fun! I'm hoping there's an equally compelling next book!

Amazing

Loved it

Publisher's Summary:

Alanna Sharpe is going to Hell. In hiding for half a year after discovering her father Cole Sharpe has become General Tyrelius Scolar, her feared enemy, she is brought back into the fold of the insurgency against the New Empire of America by Gabe Francis - a man she distrusts because of his habit of holding back vital information.

Her friends still support her in her mission to reunite her family, but that mission takes an unexpected turn when the insurgents capture Scolar. Led through the many circles of damnation by a former family enemy-turned-guide, Alanna must now endure all of Hell's torments and follow her father's path if she ever wants to be reunited with him. Great continuation of the story

I would like to thank the author for providing this book to me for purposes of an honest review.

I've really enjoyed this series so far. At first, I'll admit, I didn't hold out much hope for the series. As it progressed however, it got better and better. Now, I love Alanna, and really feel for her. The things she has to go through as a sixteen year old, sometimes you forget that she's only 16.

The author's writing style is good, he tends to show, not tell and I love that. I can see the story as it progresses in my mind. He really makes you feel for the characters and put yourself in their place.

The only thing I would really change about this entire series is the cover art for the books. It's awful, just awful. But, again, that's my opinion. However, I am an admitted cover-lover, and I do judge a book by its cover. If I had seen this book, or the rest of the series, with its cover work now in a store, I wouldn't look twice at it.

good read

I first want to thank the author for allowing me to get his books for honest reviews. I really like how he keeps you wanting to know more. The characters are believable, I fealt for Alanna through the whole story. Her trip through hell to save her fathers soul is very interesting and she learns though the whole experience that hell is not a place she wants to end up. It seems Gabe makes sure she learns what she needs to even though she gets mad that he keeps things from her because she needs to learn them on her own. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, great job Don.
